    The Beatles and The Stones were the groundbreakers of their day. John and Paul were natural songwriters, Mick and Keith had to work at it but become proficient but not always as imaginative and outstanding as their competitors, that said some tracks were outstanding and they deserve recognition for that. Their longevity obviously outshines The Beatles but sometimes longevity does not equal creativity. Basically The Beatles are legends and The Rolling Stones are a respective second, still working and surviving so that as 2024 should not be dismissed.

      Given that I am a Beatles fan, I must admit that the Beatles are a legend also because they broke up when they were at the height of their success. A bit like a sportsman that retires after becoming world champion. The Stones have been in business for 60 years.

    Slight correction to what Keith said: 'I Wanna Be Your Man' was not a Beatles' hit; it was an album track (on 'With The Beatles') given to Ringo to sing, because - as John said - he and Paul did not want to give anything major away.
    But, as with many Beatles' album tracks that The Beatles would not have released as a single, they gave the song away to The Stones, and it was the second (and then biggest, at that point), hit for The Stones.

    Obviously, it was Brian Jones who told the guy on the phone , reading " Rollin' stone", on the sleeve of a Muddy Waters album. Brian made I wanna be your man the first hit of the Stones, by his dramatic unexpected play of slide guitar on this Beatles' song. To know precise things on the Stones listen to Bill wyman, or read his book " Stone alone". Facts.

    The Stones are all right but they themselves perfectly know that they are not even close nor even in the vicinity of the creativity and genius of The Beatles. The sole suggestion of comparing The Rolling Stones to The Beatles is, quite frankly, ridiculous. The Beatles created everything and the Stones more or less tried to follow up somehow but couldn’t, forcing them to always return to the blues, which is an African-American art form. They are ok but they could never cope with the Liverpool fellows. It’s that simple! Just listen to the music!!

    Silly to compare.. they are/ were both pop groups. So you're talking fashion and culture with music splashed in.
    But that aside, the stones are a 1,4,5 blues band. They have used the occasional maj7th chord and other surprises. "Angie" for example and 'miss you' are in minor keys, but still fairly simple.
    The beatles, used dozens of chords, 9ths, maj7, aug (think-"something").
    The beatles had 3 part harmonies, with both Macca and Lennon easily able to hit c5.
    Mick didn't have that luxury.
    But...live, The stones!!! Probably the worlds best frontman.
    It"s silly to compare.

      @everydayrandomactsofkindness  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I can tell from your second paragraph that you are a fellow musician 🎸😀 and apparently have a very good ear. The only thing I would add is that the Beatles also invented (& borrowed) a few chords and would occasionally deviate from ‘typical’ progressions and insert an occasional minor chord, in places where the maj would have been more commonly used.
