Hi John...great video ! This is a great album and yes we are getting into that stretch of albums where for me they are all so close to my fav and it changes daily . I went forever not knowing Rosalie was a Bob Seger cover and I'm a Bob Seger fan. Didn't know until I got this album and read the credits. Never heard Bob's version before Thin Lizzys.. As I write this did you hear the news today ? A new Thin Lizzy album of acoustic songs with Phil's vocals and new guitar recordings from Eric Bell and apparently Brian Downey on it making it the original trio. Wow never saw this coming. Pre orders are up and a version of Whiskey in The Jar is already up on TH-cam. All official and being promoted on Thin Lizzys official site. Thank you John. Chez
Hi Chez, thank you! No doubt about that. Very little separates Nightlife , Fighting, and the next several albums in quality in my opinion. I also did not know Bob Seger wrote this until I heard Thin Lizzy do this on Live and Dangerous. Yeah, I am subscribed to the Thin Lizzy channel on here and this video pops up of "Whiskey in the Jar". I checked it out and I dig it! I went to the link and Decca Records is putting it out which makes sense. I prefer the alternate artwork but I like both. Cheers!
Another top shelf TL album. They hit their stride with Nightlife and Fighting continues the trend. Still like Nightlife a bit better. This is probably their forth or fifth overall best for me. It is an incredible string of releases that rank very, very closely. Almost interchangeable! Great review, John!
I loooove this album's cover! Way better than the american version. My favorite song from Fighting is King's Vengeance ❤ I named my guitar Rosalie obviously because of the song. As you said, although they didn't write it, the way they delivered it made the song their own 🎸
Oh that's so cool Isa! Yes, the international version is definitely more badass. "King's Vengeance" is just a wonderful track. Thin Lizzy had so many great deep cuts, especially on these '70s albums. Cheers!
My updated favorite tracks from 1971-75... 1. Fighting My Way Back / 2 . Philomena / 3 . Wild One / 4. Black Boys On The Corner / 5. King's Vengeance /6. Song For While I'm Away / 7. Whiskey In The Jar / 8. Rosalie / 9. Sha La La / 10. Mama Nature Said ./// For the albums. >> Fighting = 8 / Night Life & Vagabonds = 6 / Debut & Shades,both 4 out of 10...
Happy Halloween John! I really liked Rosalie. The guitar riffs reminded me so much of AC/DC’s Rock N Roll Damnation from their Powerage album. Is that just me? I now have the itch to listen to Powerage. I loved the song Half Caste, which I guess is from the bonus disk on the deluxe version. The intro to For Those who Love to Live is wicked, that fast build before it slows. I think my favorite song was Spirit Slips Away. I liked the slow almost blues feel of it. One thing I wasn’t a big fan of on this album, was Phil’s bass is lost in the mix. On the flip side of that, I think that was done to showcase Brian and Scott and lean on them more. They’re both very good.
Happy Halloween one day late Jake! I never put that together but I do love the Powerage album. Yes, "Half Caste" is on the deluxe edition. I don't have any deluxe editions from this point until Renegade. I agree that Phil's bass isn't as loud and for the next several albums, the guitars are more up front although you can really hear Phil on the mellower songs. Yes, Brian and Scott were dynamite together. Cheers!
I don't think any TL album is perfect to me but this one is close. King's Vengeance,Fighting,Wild One,etc are so impactful and the variety of styles are still there. 8/10..Seger's Rosalie is a good track, then Robertson elevates it to a great track with that solo ! There's a live show from this tour on YT with a superb rendition of The Rocker, among other scorchers. Like with Purple,Kiss,Nugent the band and execs likely knew a live album would be in the near future.
Thanks for the tip on the live show on YT and your post, Eric! Right, by this point, they were still genre hopping but now it sounds as part of their foundation because Phil's (and Brian and Scott on this one) songwriting had just blossomed. Totally agree that Brian's solo brings "Rosalie" up a notch. Cheers!
@JohntheMusicNut Yes there's a decent amount of live footage online, including that Night On The Town show from 1976, which I think also aired on Midnight Special. That was actually the first live footage I witnessed of TL ,and if that doesn't draw someone in,they just aren't gonna like this band because that is Lizzy at their best.
@@ericrobertson2024 There really is. I go back often to the show they did at the Sydney Opera House in '78 with Gary Moore and Mark Nauseef filling in on drums. Badass. I have yet to see the Night on the Town show so thanks for tip, Eric! Cheers!
@@JohntheMusicNut Night On The Town was a BBC broadcast,i believe. Probably their best filmed performance, albeit short. Apparently Rod Stewart lip synched on that show, Lizzy obviously doesn't. Robertson's solo on Emerald is phenomenal, he must've had rubber strings on that guitar. Relistening to these mid 70s albums + gigs, I think Brian was very influenced by Nugent.
“Rosalie” rules! “Suicide” swaggers! “Wild One” is wondrous! “Fighting My Way Back” is fairly ferocious! If Night Life was Lizzy’s transition album, THIS is the record where Thin Lizzy BECAME Thin Lizzy. Keep movin’ and groovin’ JA, bay-bay! Your pal and mine, ~ The wacky, wild child who’s potent, not mild… … Davey Cretin, from Cretin Classics.
Couldn't have said it better, Davey! And to add to that, "Ballad of a Hard Man" is badass! Thanks DC (not Toontime), I have to! Anything less would not be prudent! - John the Music Nut. I like almonds. They're a super food.
Another great Lizzy album.Just a classic.Great songs
Absolutely Thomas!
FIghting! Fighting my way back! Lizzy were starting to come into form.
That's right Mike! Thanks for your post. Cheers!
Fighting is considered a classic, the twin guitars and Phil's storytelling and emotional expression and lets not forget Brian Downey drum's 🎼🎸🎸🔥😁🥁💯🖤🎙️
No doubt about it Ernesto!

Infact the guitar solo to me is what elevates Rosalie , love the Seger version as well though.

This list just keeps getting better and better! Thanks Eric!
@JohntheMusicNut I likely won't need to add any tracks from the 1980/81 albums but Jailbreak definitely will get some inclusions.
Happy Halloween John!
