Hi John...great video ! This was the first Thin Lizzy studio album i bought after a compilation and Live and Dangerous. Killer songs Thunder and Lightning, Cold Sweat , Holy War and Sun Goes Down. I always said this album had the John Sykes effect similarly to when David Coverdale had him play on the US mix of Slide It In. He totally changed their sound too and it kept going with the 1987 album. I always wondered if Lizzy kept going with Sykes what those future albums would have sounded like. Great stuff John. Thank you. Chez
I really liked this album because of Sykes. They have better songs than the previous album. My favorite songs are Holy War and Cold Sweat.Nice presentation John
This is the album that took them to the stratosphere of metal, John Sykes is a legend and has become a legend.. sadly the last album for John Sykes and Phil... Grand slam was on the horizon.
The boys go out with a BANG! The hardest rocking, bordering on metal, album of their cannon. A Top 5 Thin Lizzy release for me. I am looking forward to your final ranking, John.
IMO this is their Best! It’s Heavy! Some of my favorite songs are here…T/T, Holy War, Sun Goes Down and Baby Please Don’t Go, with a nod to Someday Shes Gonna Hit Back. 9/10 👍
I'll paste this comment here as it includes Sykes other bands...My favorite non Lizzy albums featuring band members = 1. Motorhead - Another Perfect Day / 2. WhiteSnake - 87 / 3. WhiteSnake - Slide It In / 4. Phil Lynott - Solo In Soho / 5. Wild Horses - Stand Your Ground / 6. Blue Murder - Debut /// I haven't listened to the others such as Manfred Man, Atomic Rooster, Tygers Of Pan Tang , Grand Slam in awhile.. and i just heard the 82 Lynott album.
I've found an XL Sweater + some Correct Way Hair Tonic and turned into Casey Kasem lol...My favorite Guitarists whom appeared with Lizzy in studio or/and live based on their careers in Lizzy + with other acts were 1. Brian Robertson / 2. John Sykes / 3. Eric Bell / 4. Scott Gorham / 5. Snowy White / 6. Gary Moore / 7. Dave Fleet /8. John DuCann / 9. Phil Lynott / 10 . Midge Ure /11. Andy Gee. /// Ofcourse I've never heard a few of those so I based it on their other acts entirely,Phil with the acoustic and Yep I have never really "got" Gary Moore, his solo career was all over the map and my only complaint with Brian & Sykes is inactivity,as they didn't record enough in recent years, they would be the ultimate tandem.
I really liked the surge of energy Sykes brought. Somehow Lynott's strained voice fits the grittier tone on this album in comparison to the pop + ballads dabbled in on the 80-82 solo & Lizzy LPs. I liked This Is The One, Cold Sweat, Title Song, Holy War, Bad Habits, a few weak tracks but nothing outright awful. 8/10 rating , Solid Swan Song.. It's a bit of a downer watching the excitement of Wharton + Sykes during the live footage from this tour, but John went on to WhiteSnake and Blue Murder.I always thought Sykes was very distinctive and innovative, not just a "shredder" , he has a unique style ala Johnny Ramone,Wendy Melvoin,Stuart Smith..As for the concerts from this tour I'd recommend the BBC + Tube appearances, the gig in Ireland wasn't strong.

It's definitely in my top 5. The Lizzy album I've listened to most in recent years, along with the BBC show that opened the tour.

We both love the album, but those last 3 aren't the standout tracks for me.
I LOVE this album, especially Bad Habits. I often play Bad Habits over and over and over again.
I played the LP version 4 X Sunday, then I pondered the situation , realized my addiction, and played the demo version 6 times.
