    Got them at home depot for 10 bucks for 24. Going to keep them for emergency

    I'm buying them bc they're on sale $10 for a 24 pack. I usually use the Weber cubes which are half the price but i need to use 2 of them so they're basically the same price. These just look cooler 😂

    I save my old cooking oil, then use it like lighting fluid...

    I bought them , and decided to watch a review before using them. I found and watched your vid, then used them. Had terrible results lighting one under a Weber chimney of Jealous Devil Briquettes and perfect ignition when I lit one in a pile of lump in a slow n sear.

    I typically light scrap paper stuffed under the charcoal chimney

      Try cooling oil on a few paper towels in a wad. Also Doritos will also light your charcoal😊

    I keep a little container of cotton balls soaked in 91% rubbing alcohol. Really cheap to use

    “We’ve all used lighter fluid”
    I’m a relative newbie to grilling, but I’ve never used lighter fluid, and I don’t think I will ever, not a fan of the chemical taste, the odor is nostalgic from childhood though…

    Tumbleweeds cost more than weber cubes so i stick to the weber cubes

    Thanls for the review. For me, I like using a chimney with the Weber cubes, or Royal Oak tumbleweeds.
    After trying many methods, those seem to produce good results, and typically only need one to get a chimney going.

    I usually use tumbleweeds, but I do need to get some of the flat ones to use in my gravity smoker.

    I use whatever I have on hand....Weber cubes, Tumbleweeds, etc. These JD Booms seem expensive for sure. A gas gun is my preferred.

  • @tonyflo04

    I use my looft lighter, but just tried the JD Boom and i must say it het the coals super red hot in no time in my chimney starter. I used them in my MB Gravity (with some MacGyver-ing) and it was hot and ready to get the fans going within minutes. I’m a fan of anything that is smarter not harder

    I use a starter chimney with a piece of an old charcoal bag or newspaper but if its high humidity add about half a dozen match light charcoals to the starter first then either lump or biquettes what ever I have

  • @HaotheEnd
    @HaotheEnd ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The squares from Amazon… something Candle Company.. cheap and works. Also the SunJoe battery charcoal starter when using kamado (same as looft lighter, but has 2ah battery included)

    From the looks of it they reminded me of cherry bombs fire crackers when I was a kid long long time ago. I use tumbleweeds under my charcoal chimney and have had good luck with those. As aside note I think I'm going to hold off on the table top. Get my budget in a friendlier position. Big trip to Ohio next week to celebrate my 81st. You take care.

    Weber cubes all the way! Tumbleweeds suck!

  • @EricPetersen2922
    @EricPetersen2922 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Boom!
    Seems like they would work good under a chimney, but $1 each is a lot if you cook outside regularly.

    I’ve used Tumbleweeds before, and they usually work ok. But I also have a Looftlighter, and I use that 90% of the time. Works so quickly! About 60-90 seconds and I have open flame on B&B briquettes. Much faster than a fire starter. Great video as always Tom! P.S. I bought an outdoor VEVO table from your recommendations and have my Akorn Jr. on it. Love it!

    I have a whole box of these and they are just sitting there. I was not impressed. Plus they're expensive. I personally think they are duds.

    It looks like these are a good option for starting a fireplace, firepit or campfire. Like H says there are more economical options for starting charcoal. One question of the Looflighter, how much amperage does it draw. I'd like to get one of these, but my concern iswe can't use it with and extension cord and my charcoal grill would be too far from an electrical outlet.

    • @TomHorsmanAmateurBBQ
      @TomHorsmanAmateurBBQ  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for Watching Ted! Not sure on the amp draw,, I do use mine in the garage off a 25’ extension cord

    I rather use tumble weed. I don’t need it to burn that long. Just long enough to get the coals going. I need the heat without the fire plus the smoke. So this is not for me I’ll pass.

    2 weber cubes works for me at half the price of these.
    If im cheap, a little cooking spray or oil on some junk mail is basically free. A half gallon of the cheapest cooking oil you can find will last a lifetime.
