Myself & Briony collect our brand new MK2 GR Yaris Manual from RRG Macclesfield, we both share our first drive thoughts, anyone else collected their MK2 GR Yaris yet?
I just picked mine up yesterday. Definitely a better car than the older one. More refined. Stronger engine, more responsive and less laggy and the gearbox is much nicer shift. I just wish the damn thing sat lower and the wheels had a better offset because it always looks under-wheeled but apart from that, very happy and glad I bought it. Now to remove the aftermarket bits from the Gen 1 which I hope won't be a massive issue, including refitting my GRMN Recaro seat that I imported from Japan. Enjoy yours and thanks for an interesting take on the car.
Nice vid guys. I test drove a GR Yaris Circuit Pack a few years ago when I was looking to upgrade from my Yaris GRMN and was really disappointed (I ended up sticking with my GRMN for a while before getting an i20N). For me the dislikes (many of which you mentioned) were: the seating position, the restricted visibility out of the front, the fake noise generator, the lack of exhaust noise, the dash and the infotainment, the overly notchy gearbox and the turbo lag outside of the power band (which was really pronounced for me coming from the supercharged predecessor). Seems like Toyota have fixed pretty much all the things that I didn't like about it (maybe not the exhaust? I guess that can be fixed aftermarket). It's a shame about the price and availability but I take your point with inflation. Hope you guys get some good fun out of it.
@@nfsdanz I had an I30N and then went to the GRY OG. It is a phenomenal car that just wins you over and gets better and better the faster you drive. I recently did a track day at Oulton Park, granted it was wet but I shared a garage with a chap with a modded I20N and he couldn’t believe the pace I was going at as I passed him over the day. The GRY OG wasn’t for everyone but it’s the only car I’ve driven that I will be keeping for the foreseeable future.
I bought a circuit pack when they first came out. A blast to drive and a great chassis. I wanted to love it but didn't. Great value at the time, but cheap interior, notchy gear box and tinitus inducing road noise. Fantastic handling but wasn't for me. Sold it on 6 months later.
My fav vehicle these days.. I'm still paying of my first new car I bought for myself. But this small rocket is on my bucket list :) Great choice you made.
Appreciate the honest review of mods to value ratio.. these are great as standard. Like how you didnt drag this video out into a long drawn out series too
@@jolewis8969 Exterior/interior much nicer on facelift imo. Also couldn't stand the fake speaker engine sound on the old car and they've removed it on the facelift. For me that's enough of an improvement in itself lmao
Toyota RRG Macclesfield did a cracking job really, turned the car around really fast and allowing me to do the unpeeling and unveiling videos was really good of them. :)
@@Gibbo205 My current car (Ioniq 5, i'm a petrol head but love fast electric cars too.) the dealer basically threw the keys on the desk while on a call and told me it was taking up space and to take it out the dealership asap. the dash does look a bit plasticky, but the colour is super and the sat nav is what they all should have had, that said the car looks awesome, enjoy have fun 😊.
So the number plate and the boot mat is the extra money 😂😉 The air intake is from the GRMN Yaris and allows better air flow. I’d get it PPF’d, no ceramic coat will stop a stone chip, plus the paint is wafer thin.
Congrats! I didn't originally like the dashboard design but it's growing on me, looking forward to picking one of these up in a couple of years. How much was the sticker price on yours?
Enjoyed the review. Think the new dash surround would look better black or darker - looks to plasticky light grey. Already some on Autotrader with inflated price, people trying to make money on them!
there was a massive overreaction towards the interior. the new interior is more driver focused which is what real gr yaris drivers wanted, only real people complaining are those who are never going to buy or drive it anyway
The dash looks 90s jdm I actually like it think I still like the mk1 car better don't know why probably because it's the first homologation Was just more exciting
Front of gen 1 looks way more aggressive! I also prefer analog instruments. Would pick gen 1 every day. Also with the money saved one could get some nice extras like bucket seats!

well I disagree with you here. There are things u will not get from Toyota. E.g.: Nice bucket seats or a KW Clubsport. Huge difference in performance and nothing a gen 2 will come close to!
Having driven my GR 18k miles and 350 yesterday I’ve not experienced the low speed or clutch issue with mine that you did, perhaps my upgrades hid the standard cars shortcomings 🤷♀️
I get the function over form guff about the dash but did they REALLY have to design it with a set square and make it look like it was made out of old 1999 Hitachi telly plastics? No doubt it’s a hoot to drive but the interior could be the decider to yay or nay for some.
I’ll take my white OG GR with my plate GR21 YAS over this all day long. Can’t imagine the state of the paint the way you were both mauling them protective films of it. Enjoy the car though, OG model for me.
@@VidNibsThe OG is certainly going down in the history books. Think what Toyota have done here is what they did with the MR2 in the MK3 and totally ruined the classic design seen in the mk1’s and 2’s.
