could not agree more. I could watch a table with DNegs, Matusow, Hellmuth, Laak, Esfandiari and others for days. These new "high rollers" are about as entertaining as watching paint dry.
@@tonyharris5533Excellent synopsis Tony! We all understand they are there to play poker, we are just stating that watching poker is not as enjoyable today as it once was
his "hair" looks AWFUL. Looks like he's had plastic surgery too. I mean all that and he still looks like that? Would have been better off just growing old naturally.
@@maciejzastawny88fortunately poker is a game where people gamble. And no matter what the numbers say, there’s always a gamble in every hand and move players make. That’s why they call it gambling, no?
@ In poker, if you skilled enough you can play +EV moves which means you are not depend on luck but on BETTER % chances of winning than your opponent. That's strategy. And yes, there is some luck in this, thats why you can get lucky and win a hand against Phil Ivy, but he will win the tournament.
I love it! On the very first hand, Norm spouts on the flop, "He now just running Aces" (to win), except running 9's also get him the win with 9999A over KKK99. It's made moot by a King on the turn, but I love the confidence Norm has with the wrong answer.
8:19 It’s blowing my mind that I’m just realizing the scene where they follow a day in the life of Harold (Chris Parnell) and Ruth Melvin (Estelle Harris) in “The Grand” was them lampooning that bit with Negreanu and his mom. 😂🤯
The fact that Matasow thought of himself as such an elite player back then makes you have to assume he must have been on a ton of drugs in those days. He’s delusional.
@@mopitchbeast yeah that's what I was thinking? Like maybe not quite 27, but very close. Depending on what everyone else folded (which he couldn't know of course), it's for sure in the high 20s, over half the remaining deck easily. Right odds at that point to win honestly
I remember watching this but did not recall that Juanda and Matusow were at the table. Gerry Drehobl (sic) winning this might be the greatest victory in poker history.
But i think it looks worse, like a stiff wind wouldn't even move it , it has no flow, and what happened to the blonde? i guess i'm lucky, i'm 65 and my hair is just as thick as it's always been , but if i lost my hair i wouldn't worry about it .
the kinda guy who actually wants to play poker for a living is the kinda guy who wants to get hair transplants. they probably fly to turkey for beard transplants too
C'mon dude. It was a fraction of his bank roll, and it absolutely does not look exactly the same. At least say something more accurate if you're gonna criticize.
This makes me realize how boring poker got without these great guys. I dont have to skip through a minute and a half of silence to see a fold this is just great poker

That depends. If you really like the theoretical part of the game, then today's games are a LOT of fun to watch these high-level pro's battle it out

Probably one of my favorite final tables. Not for the action, but for the players themselves, great stories.
20 + years already , dang time flys
Seriously I remember watching this on ESPN when it first aired. First time seeing Negreanu or Matusow. This was when I fell in love with poker .
2004! Time flys man...fun to watch how the game has changed so much in 20 years...
Remembering all the fun, crazy hands, iconic characters...it was the BEST time of our lives ♦♣♠♥
Best hair transplant ever. No one can do that

These old wsop videos never get old.
This is from the first year I started watching WSOP coverage. Crazy to think that watching this now is like me watching the 1983 WSOP back then 🥴
Strange how Negreanu has more hair in 2025 than 2004😂
Wonder if transferred from his back
He has a big ol scar on the back of his head from the transplant.
Hair grows
@@Unknownrobloxdude He said he got a transplant.
Little 10k on a transplant and it's sorted

when poker was fun
When trips were a monster on a completely scary board....

Ol whispies, the golden days
This is prime poker time with the best commentary
This was the greatest Era of poker.
Gerry played that perfectly. Patience prevailed nicely for him.
I have wasted far too much of my life thanks to these people. Good times.
For some reason, I have always remembered Paul Phillips calling 7s not a small pair from this telecast.
Great ending! 👏 🎉
Before he got the amazing hair plugs.
love the classic commercials!
Him and his mom are so cute 😭

Matusow at 11:23 “27 wins in deck”

21 outs

what a call with KK on that board!!! loses to any 7 or the flush. he earned the win

So long ago that TV announcers didn't know how to pronounce Negreanu.

Reading. Its important.
@sirjeeemus8537 yep I clicked on it when I saw the first 3 words. First ever televised. I'm so ashamed😆
Anybody know the name of that Cowboy jingle ?
Negreanu trashing on Matusow the entire time is classic.
Juanda had trips.

How time's have changed since 2004. When 8th place only pays $37k it makes you wonder why anyone even entered the tournament.
This is not the main event. No. Why would anyone play for 37x buyin busting first on FT..? Dingdong

less players and only a $1,000 buy-in
