Her mother came home from shopping one day and heard her baby/toddler singing lyrics from a Whitney Houston song (there's even a partial home video). Angelina says she taught herself how to sing, listening to all the great jazz and blues masters along with other favorites such as Adele and Amy Winehouse. At 3 years of age she set her sights on performing for Simon Cowell; a dream that would be fulfilled 10 years later on America's Got Talent the Champions. Angelina has never indicated a vocal coach was involved, and the most we can find is an adult occasionally critiquing the lyrics of something she did in her school's recording booth. Angelina often will close her eyes during a performance, and says of herself that she goes away to a special place where the music is (again, prodigy). We do know that she at some time studied piano and guitar. She had wanted to compete in talent contests at an early age, and parents finally relented when she was 5 years old. We have nothing to suggest any formal voice coach training, as all we have to go on are some early live recordings made in a school recording booth where an overall song was critiqued. At 7 her parents again relented and allowed her to audition for Norway's Got Talent Season 2014. So the last to audition that day, was a barefooted, snaggle toothed, bushy haired (Amy Winehouse haired?) tiny girl, who chose to sing of all things, her own rendition of Billie Holiday's "Gloomy Sunday", a song that's beyond many adult singers. Omer Bhatti (one of M. Jackson's sons), one of the judges, said of 7 year old Angelina in a later interview “We were in shock when she started to sing…it was a discussion whether it was an impression of that kind of music or the real deal…and the next time we saw her, she owned the stage, when she rehearsed, she told the bassist what she wanted and had full control. And we were like…ok…you are a star…we have something special here…”. Angelina went on to win NGT Season 2014. She said to herself "I would like to share her life for one second to know what it is like to sit alone, wet, and damp, and barefoot in a corner of the street." Noticing how cold it was and that the girl's bare feet were scarred, she offered her shoes to the girl. She helped raise over 21 million euros and millions of dollars. As an international "Got Talent" winner, Angelina was invited to audition for America's Got Talent The Champions Season 2020. She became even more renowned following this audition at 13 years old, singing her stunning own arrangement of "Bohemian Rhapsody", which earned both a golden buzzer and a congratulatory tweet by Queen for her performance. The first is Angelina's unmatched performance of Screamin' Jay Hawkins' 1956 jazz classic, "I Put a Spell on You". This song is a jazz standard, performed by hundreds of artists. Yet, as in all of her performances, Angelina arranged the music/lyrics to create her version and vision of the song. So at 9 years and 2 months of age, she performed in her in a black and white studio version, considered by many as a masterpiece cover of Hawkins' original performance. As Angelina's voice seems to grow exponentially, her powerful warm resonant tones took the place of some of her little girl vocal capabilities. Well, Disney did indeed try to sign her. They offered extreme amounts of money to get their hands on a lil 8 year-old kid. But the family wisely declined. Twice. And the word is - they were ... absolutely freaking furious. LOL She ultimately signed with Republic Records years down the line. From what was implied by her team, mostly on her terms.
I love this song and I love her cover. I believe she was 11 when she recorded this. I still consider her most shocking performance to be her black & white video of I Put A Spell On You, arranged in the style of its composer, Screamin' Jay Hawkins, when Angelina was 9 years old. The stunned look on your face said it all.😯 Fact is, this is more than just a phenomenal vocal performance for a girl her age, I would argue that this Billie Holiday classic has not and cannot be sung any better by any artist of any age, period. You only need to listen the original to understand how good this is. The most insane part is, every performance of Angelina's is mind-blowing. She is the new queen of jazz, and she takes on every other music genre fearlessly.
Great reaction , there's so many tales about Angelina out there it's pathetic, first Angelina did study English in school however, at 5 yrs old she could speak English very well ( there's a video when she was 5 showing her toy room and bedroom in it she's singing, it's the only time you'll hear her sing like a child. How her voice changed from 5 to 6 is mind boggling she went from a 5 yr old child to a 40 yr old seasoned singer, in it she's speaking English, her grandma is speaking to her in either Norwegian or Farsi , her mother and uncle Michael ( manager) grew up in Japan, and for a time taught Japanese in Norway so she probably speaks Japanese as well, her father is a petroleum engineer from Sweden, probably one reason she was speaking English at 5 she lived for awhile in the States when she was 3 yrs old.) The Astar family is a very well connected and well to do it in Norway after all Angelina's grandmother is Mery Zamani aka Mosarz a world renowned poet and artist, probably the reason her mother Sara wanted her to have a normal childhood she herself most likely didn't probably traveled with her mom a lot doing art exhibits all over the world. Anyway the family could and did turn a lot offers including Disney. Angelina's grandmother instilled two very important things in Angelina the love of Jazz and her humanitarianism, to this day Angelina hasn't backed off either. Angelina's childhood has been everything but normal she has accomplished more as a pre teen than most people do in a lifetime, not many people have traveled the world help raising millions for different charities, ( donated her winnings from NGT to charity) write a book becoming the youngest published author of their Country, sing for Royalty, Prime ministers, former presidents and many celebrities. She is destined to be a great singer and humanitarian once she finishes her education.

She was 11 years old. She has a gift from the universe. Her neck is minimal longer, as is her larynx. That is the reason for her vocal range, the other reaspon is hard, hard work. singing 6 hours a day, six days a week, studying music since age 4 at the academies of Oslo and now, LA. She also has a high IQ, I should know, I had the honor to work with such kids. PEACE and German Greetings.

She was already a veteran by this time, this song having secured her a cameo appearance as a nightclub chanteuse on Netflix series Lilyhammer back when she was 8!

She auditioned at age 7 she was 8 by the time she won. She was on America Got Talent the Champions. You've just opened a rabbit hole that can't be escaped from. She began recording at age 6, won Norways got talent at 8 and participated in AGT the champions in 2020 at 13. Toured Europe and the US raising money for charity's. She currently turned 16 in January and has over 120 covers and has written I believe 7 originals that she personally wrote and arraigned. She has been handling the arrangements of her music since she was 9. Angelina is a Norwegian born child prodigy, who began singing at 16 months old. Her mother came home from shopping one day and heard her baby/toddler singing lyrics from a Whitney Houston song (there's even a partial home video). Angelina says she taught herself how to sing, listening to all the great jazz and blues masters along with other favorites such as Adele and Amy Winehouse. At 3 years of age she set her sights on performing for Simon Cowell; a dream that would be fulfilled 10 years later on America's Got Talent the Champions. Angelina has never indicated a vocal coach was involved, and the most we can find is an adult occasionally critiquing the lyrics of something she did in her school's recording booth. Angelina often will close her eyes during a performance, and says of herself that she goes away to a special place where the music is (again, prodigy). We do know that she at some time studied piano and guitar. She had wanted to compete in talent contests at an early age, and parents finally relented when she was 5 years old. We have nothing to suggest any formal voice coach training, as all we have to go on are some early live recordings made in a school recording booth where an overall song was critiqued.
At 7 her parents again relented and allowed her to audition for Norway's Got Talent Season 2014. So the last to audition that day, was a barefooted, snaggle toothed, bushy haired (Amy Winehouse haired?) tiny girl, who chose to sing of all things, her own rendition of Billie Holiday's "Gloomy Sunday", a song that's beyond many adult singers. Omer Bhatti (one of M. Jackson's sons), one of the judges, said of 7 year old Angelina in a later interview “We were in shock when she started to sing…it was a discussion whether it was an impression of that kind of music or the real deal…and the next time we saw her, she owned the stage, when she rehearsed, she told the bassist what she wanted and had full control. And we were like…ok…you are a star…we have something special here…”. Angelina went on to win NGT Season 2014. (Trivia: Angelina sang the song you're reacting to here as an acapella performance before the 4 judge elimination panel, all while remaining pitch perfect despite the length of it and some of its lower register.
Angelina has been described time and again as having an old soul. Prodigies, by their nature, aren't something the normal rules apply to. Vocal coaches reacting to her have said that she just knows instinctually how to sing or has an unmatched ability to control her body to sing the music the way she wants to. Angelina has performed over 160 covers and has 5 originals, all by the age of 15. Regardless of the genre she sings, you may be able to pick up the dulcet tones of Billie Holiday, Etta James, Ella Fitzgerald, and many other artists. Although many say she can sing in a thousand voices, she truly sings in her own voice, not wanting to try and copy the artist. Angelina doesn't approach singing as the vast majority of child singers do; belting the heck out of a song from start to finish. Her songs kill you with kindness, often with the first few lines. Her runs are insane and all hers organically. When she wants to belt, she belts (if you doubt this, listen afterwards to her cover of Whitney's "I Have Nothing").
Angelina Jordan is known as "The Barefoot Princess" or "The Barefoot Princess of Jazz". She always performs barefooted, whether in front of a live audience or during a studio recording. The story is that while living in the Middle East, at age 6, Angelina came across an orphaned girl weighing people on a bathroom scale to earn money. She said to herself "I would like to share her life for one second to know what it is like to sit alone, wet, and damp, and barefoot in a corner of the street." Noticing how cold it was and that the girl's bare feet were scarred, she offered her shoes to the girl. Although 6 year old Angelina loved her shoes as they were very nice and she knew she would miss them, she gave them to the little girl. Angelina called her Princess, even though the girl said she didn't live in a castle but near the ruins where she sat. After sharing their hopes and dreams, the little girl said of Angelina's wish to sing for the world "You will become the one you dream of and when your dreams come true you have to remember the poor children without shoes, and I will pray for you Angelina.” Angelina wrote in her diary that day "The world is very strange. Right then and there I felt as if a door in my heart opened up, and it was filled with lots of lights. It was as if there was, from Earth to Heaven, a staircase. I climbed the stairs. To be able to do something for another human - it was such a big thing…hard to describe really.” In 2015, at 9 years of age, Angelina wrote a book about the encounter since everyone asked why she sang barefoot (which also made her the youngest published author in Norway).
Despite the fame Angelina earned during NGT 2014, her parents were insistent that she have a normal childhood. They turned down record labels and performances, limiting her appearances to about 10% of these. This is the reason she flew under the radar. Yet she still performed around the globe, including on "The View" at 8 years old in the US. Angelina performed alongside other artists raising money for children such as the one she remembers every time she takes off her shoes to sing. She helped raise over 21 million euros and millions of dollars. As an international "Got Talent" winner, Angelina was invited to audition for America's Got Talent The Champions Season 2020. She became even more renowned following this audition at 13 years old, singing her stunning own arrangement of "Bohemian Rhapsody", which earned both a golden buzzer and a congratulatory tweet by Queen for her performance. Her last performance was part of a three person mutually agreed upon piece, we will never know if Angelina couldn't have won AGTC on her own (seeing her covers to date, she should have won). Despite not winning, Angelina was the golden goose everyone wanted. Although Angelina turned down many record labels, including those most associated with AGT (yes, she even turned down Disney), she at 14 selected Republic Records. She entered into a contract with them as they shared a common vision of her music, and it gave her complete artistic and timing control. Although Angelina's childhood years are tapering off, her parents still want her to enjoy as normal a childhood as possible. Angelina turned 16 in January 2022, and lives with her parents, grandmother, and her little sister Juliette. Her father stays completely out of the media eye, per his wishes. Her mother Sara Astar and her grandmother Mery Zamani (a child prodigy in her own rights in both poetry and art). Mery is very active in Angelina's music career, filming, and designing (most/all of) her performance attire.
Now that the background is past, here are two recommendations to start with.
The first is Angelina's unmatched performance of Screamin' Jay Hawkins' 1956 jazz classic, "I Put a Spell on You". This song is a jazz standard, performed by hundreds of artists. Yet, as in all of her performances, Angelina arranged the music/lyrics to create her version and vision of the song. So at 9 years and 2 months of age, she performed in her in a black and white studio version, considered by many as a masterpiece cover of Hawkins' original performance. Although she has more recent covers of this song, she never again matched this black and white studio version. As Angelina's voice seems to grow exponentially, her powerful warm resonant tones took the place of some of her little girl vocal capabilities. The second is her AGTC audition of "Bohemian Rhapsody", performed at 13 years of age. These first two songs are "Must Hears", and perhaps better heard at the start of your journey.

The stunned look on your face said it all.😯 Fact is, this is more than just a phenomenal vocal performance for a girl her age, I would argue that this Billie Holiday classic has not and cannot be sung any better by any artist of any age, period. You only need to listen the original to understand how good this is. The most insane part is, every performance of Angelina's is mind-blowing. Great reaction , there's so many tales about Angelina out there it's pathetic, first Angelina did study English in school however, at 5 yrs old she could speak English very well ( there's a video when she was 5 showing her toy room and bedroom in it she's singing, it's the only time you'll hear her sing like a child. How her voice changed from 5 to 6 is mind boggling she went from a 5 yr old child to a 40 yr old seasoned singer, in it she's speaking English, her grandma is speaking to her in either Norwegian or Farsi , her mother and uncle Michael ( manager) grew up in Japan, and for a time taught Japanese in Norway so she probably speaks Japanese as well, her father is a petroleum engineer from Sweden, probably one reason she was speaking English at 5 she lived for awhile in the States when she was 3 yrs old.) The Astar family is a very well connected and well to do it in Norway after all Angelina's grandmother is Mery Zamani aka Mosarz a world renowned poet and artist, probably the reason her mother Sara wanted her to have a normal childhood she herself most likely didn't probably traveled with her mom a lot doing art exhibits all over the world. Anyway the family could and did turn a lot offers including Disney. Angelina's grandmother instilled two very important things in Angelina the love of Jazz and her humanitarianism, to this day Angelina hasn't backed off either. Angelina's childhood has been everything but normal she has accomplished more as a pre teen than most people do in a lifetime, not many people have traveled the world help raising millions for different charities, ( donated her winnings from NGT to charity) write a book becoming the youngest published author of their Country, sing for Royalty, Prime ministers, former presidents and many celebrities. She is destined to be a great singer and humanitarian once she finishes her education.
She’s already done a movie soundtrack, she did “Mercy” for the opening credits of the movie “The Hating Game” which came out late 2021, and that wasn’t her only appearance in other entertainment modes. That is the reason for her vocal range, the other reaspon is hard, hard work. singing 6 hours a day, six days a week, studying music since age 4 at the academies of Oslo and now, LA.
