      @@SmartCarsJordan Likewise. I've been mainly using Normal Mode and lost quite a bit of petrol, even when driving conservatively.

    • @SmartCarsJordan
      @SmartCarsJordan  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Eco mode is the most conservative it throttles down your gas when you push on the gas and saves fuel. If you use normal mode you need to let your foot be lighter on the gas pedal

    I own a 3rd gen prius and i would recommend to only use the electric mode in long lines at the gas station and bumper to bumper traffic... but great instructional video!! :)

      hi leo, thank you for your comment. yes you're right EV mode is very useful in bumper to bumper driving. i realized that in eco mode it actually automatically uses battery only or EV in those situations too.

    Thank you for this video. I just purchased this particular model this morning. This was very helpful
    When I tried to use the EV mode it said that I couldn't use it. The battery was mostly charged

    • @SmartCarsJordan
      @SmartCarsJordan  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Try to be in a complete stop to use EV only and accelerating very slowly. EV only is not really useful unless it's a plugin hybrid, so just use eco or normal mode and let the car manage the EV battery usage its more efficient this way

    Thank you for posting the video. It solved a lot of confusion. Also when I am in a parking garage I use Ev mode. Very infrequent do I use ECO mode and even less do I use Power mode. Question, does the modes change only when the button is is pressed again or will it change on its own when the driving conditions change?

    I drive my plug -in in normal mode during hwy driving since switching it "eco" makes You push harder on the gas pedal the fuel economy drops.I get better MPGS and the car is not as sluggish.

    You say eco mode makes it harder to push the gas pedal, no it does not, there are no mechanical linkages between the gas pedal and the throttle body, the throttle body is electrically controlled by the PCM, the PCM determines how wide to open the throttle based on multiple inputs, including the gas pedal. The gas pedal is a positional sensor, with a spring to provide resistance, that spring doesn't change force. Eco/pwr DO change the PCM response to a given throttle input, for example pushing the pedal half way down would give something like 50% full power in normal mode, 40% in eco and 60% in pwr. However at 100% pedal input, no matter the mode, the PCM will do everything to get you moving fast. Flooring it in eco mode for ten seconds will get you the same acceleration as flooring it in pwr mode for ten seconds. Please note that only applies to 100% full throttle while people might say "flooring it" when actually it's 95% pressed

    • @SmartCarsJordan
      @SmartCarsJordan  5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Yes it's not mechanical, just the feeling of it due to slower response rate for fuel flow

    • @SmartCarsJordan

    My ev mode always says not available low battery, even when the battery is completely full.

    • @SmartCarsJordan
      @SmartCarsJordan  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      assuming you have the hybrid model not the plugin hybrid. ev only mode is available at low speed up to 25 miles per hour. but if you use eco mode or power mode during driving it will switch to ev mode by itself when doing regenerative braking (deceleration) or coming to a complete stop and start moving it will use ev mode or the hybrid battery by itself. really no need to use ev mode at all since the car utilizes the battery usage better than we do.

    • @88tongued
      @88tongued 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@SmartCarsJordan I do have plug in EV mode and it says that not available battery low at all speeds even below 25 or stopped. I wonder why that button is even there if it doesn't do anything and I wonder why with a full battery it gives that warning

    • @SmartCarsJordan
      @SmartCarsJordan  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@88tongued that's a different story. do you drive in cold weather and use windscreen demisters when trying to use ev mode ? since that can prevent it from working. if not then you might have an inverter problem and you need to send it to get checked out. since ev mode should be accessible to use up to 53 miles per hour in plugin hybrids.

    • @88tongued
      @88tongued 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SmartCarsJordan yesterday I got into ev mode for the first time since owning the car for almost two years and no I've tried ev mode with no climate control. Yesterday I was doing a long commute and coasting down a mountain and for a very long stretch with braking and that braking gear it finally went from the one battery icon to the slightly different battery icon with a distance listed. And that distance was how long I could go on ev mode and it got up to 1.1 miles. And yes it could go at 50 miles per hour on just ev. Wow never did that before. So I guess there is something with the battery or battery charging that. So before when I said the battery was all the way full it turns out that's only one stage. After that one regular driving battery image fills up then the next battery starts very low and that's the ev battery. That battery almost never has any juice in it or doesn't display.

    • @SmartCarsJordan
      @SmartCarsJordan  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You should have check engine light or check hybrid system to tell you what exactly is the problem. Do a diagnostic tool reader check and the error codes should tell you what's wrong. It might be the battery or the inverter or the circutry between them. Send me the error codes

    • @SmartCarsJordan
      @SmartCarsJordan  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The acceleration rate should be affected when flooring it in eco, normal, and power modes .... damping of the gas pedal and fuel flow makes it slower to accelerate in eco mode vs power mode .... until you reach the end then all become the same

    • @Daikini0
      @Daikini0 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@SmartCarsJordan not just acceleration, as I experienced, in powermode the car immediately reacts on flooring, in eco it has like a second delay.
