    You know what ? I bought a 2015 Prius brand new and always I was always complaining why the passenger door unlocks all the doors and the driver door does not. After 5 years with that problem I did not know about that and I read the manual and there was nothing. I just subscribe to your channel. Thanks a lot!!!! 😊

    Resetting the maintenance required light in my 2015 Prius is different, and I don't know how you even got this to work. You start the car, tap the TRIP button until it's showing TRIP A. Then shut the car off. Then hold down the km/h button WITHOUT touching the brakes and tap the START button twice. That is how you reset the maintenance required light.

    Someone asked ‘what about warming up the car in winter while you are wanting to be inside or dashing about doing other things, how to make the car be ‘on’ but secure?’ This is the answer, my solution, should work, and is 99% as good as using the spare key method that older, ‘dumb’ cars let you do!…
    You can minimise this issue. On our old cars, I just put the one key in, leave it to warm up and have the spare key that I can lock it with, but these are ‘dumb’ systems (conveniently/luckily). What I did discover with the Prius is, if you power up the car, then while inside it, press the driver ‘doors lock’ switch on the driver door arm rest, the situation is then obviously that all the doors are locked, but if you exit by the driver door by simply operating the door handle, ALL OTHER DOORS remain locked, and the trunk/boot too. I found this annoying until you raised this question…now I realise, if I do exactly the same thing, but via the passenger door, it’s effectively stopping a theft, by this method:
    Enter the vehicle normally, power up the Prius. Now making sure obvs the ‘hand’ brake/parking brake is applied with the foot pedal, and ‘P’ is engaged for your safety and others, get out and walk around to the passenger side, and get inside the car, shut the door behind you. Now just lean over to the driver side, and press that ‘lock doors’ rocker switch in the driver’s door. What ought to happen now, is when you simply pull the passenger door handle, or maybe flick the unlock rocker adjacent to it, you can exit the vehicle but ALL OTHER DOORS INCLUDING THE DRIVER’S DOOR REMAIN LOCKED. Now, obviously, this leaves the passenger door, unlocked but, with that huge console up the middle, nobody ‘normal’ is gonna get in the ‘wrong’ side of the vehicle, clamber over, and try to drive away.
    Ergo, this is 99% as good in my book, as the old dumb systems where you use the spare key and the car has no clue you are in or out as such, though they may have proximity detectors for the keys themselves, the door-locking is not coped-for by software etc. Now I’m busting a gut to try this…it should work, because when my passenger in the front keeps complaining the door’s locked when they try to get out, and I instruct them how to unlock just their door, I do NOT hear the rest of the doors unlock when they exit the vehicle. Now there might be a cacophony of beeps, as Prius protests you are not in the vehicle, but I’d put up with that if it happens. Doesn’t always happen, I dunno why. Take care all. [EDIT: Do not try to make this ‘foolproof’ by flicking the latch/rocker lock thing, adjacent to the front passenger door handle inside, UNLESS YOU DEFINITELY HAVE THE SPARE KEY AND DEFINITELY KNOW IT WORKS! In theory, this might well fully lock the Prius, you might outsmart the system, I dunno, but if you do this smarty-pants move, while say at the in-laws or spmewhere you don;t have the spare key, or your spare key is no good, you are completely reliant on the hand-touching the outer door handle method, to unlock the car, and I am not at all sure that works when the Prius key is INSIDE the car. In fact, now I think of it, my marvellous idea only works, if the Prius realises the key is inside/the car is powered-on, and thereby refuses to allow an external person/assailant to open the door with the handle sensor!! So, now that’s another thing I have to try out! But it can’t allow another person to do that, to enter by using the door handle outside when the car is powered on, I am sure I heard ‘Prius camper’ and ‘hunkering’ types say the car is secure when they are inside…so I will test this, but am pretty certain my system/method holds good.]

    • @ronsedlak4019
      @ronsedlak4019 ปีที่แล้ว

      The other safety feature here is that it does not even matter if you lock your car once you start it and it is warming up in your driveway. You can go about shoveling snow in your driveway or whatever. No one can steal your car as long as you have the key FOB in your pocket and you are not close to the car. They won't be able to drive the car away if the FOB is not in the car! If someone jumps in your car, just run inside the house (if you are afraid of confronting them) and call 911. They will not get anywhere.
      Another thing is if you get car-jacked and the FOB is in your pocket, just run like hell away from the car to a safe location. The car jacker will not be able to go anywhere with your car if the FOB is not in the car.
      If anyone has info that contradicts this, please let me know.

    You can lock the car from the outside while the car is running by first locking all the doors from the inside then manually unlocking the drivers side then locking it from the outside using the little key in the key fob. When you want to unlock it, you use the little key again in the drivers side door. This is in case you want to leave the A/C running on a really hot day or something like that.

      I suspect it will reject that request. All modern vehicles use a computer to control shifts and those computers will be programmed to reject out of range requests until conditions are right. Same reason why you can't throw a modern vehicle into reverse at 60mph. The computer will read you moving the shifter and will also see the current conditions as told by the other computers in the car and it will reject the request until your speed drops to within certain parameters so as to prevent catastrophic failures and accidents.

    the two grooves on the drivers door will also lock the car so you don't need to push the fob button to lock either

    1:22 nothing happens if you're moving. HOWEVER, There's a fast exit feature: Pull up to park, come to a complete stop, push the power button, get out of the car and lock it. No need to push the park button first.

    One really cool feature is if you take your left hand and lay it on top of the drivers side rear view mirror, while your hand is on the mirror lift your right foot off the ground and hold that position for six seconds. Notice that nothing happened at all. That trick is good if you want to look foolish. It doesn't do anything on the passenger side either.

      @@wadeatkinson4766 emergencies such as engine runaway. Don't imagine it's too common on modern vehicles but I was in an '82 Buick Regal when I was a kid that experienced a runaway caused by a faulty cruise control. My uncle had to cut the engine to stop it and it did it again just as soon as he cranked the car back up. He had to shut it down again and go under the hood and actually unplug the cruise control module (or fuse not sure which) to stop the problem

      I have almost the same story with my 86 Monte Carlo but I ran over a curb, through a fence, and a small 10ft tree stopped me. Car was fine after. I figured it was better than rear ending someone at the light going 45mph. So, I know how you feel.

      Yes.
      The dealer can do it or you can use the Dr. Prius app (paid version) and OBDII plug.
