The most brilliant engineering to date in the automotive world dating back to the early 90's, I just bought a 2013 Prius and it very much reminds me of the first day I slid into an airplane cockpit and looked at the instrument panel back in the late 70's. I have so much respect for Toyota and her engineering division, to make the most technological advanced automobile to date that actually has few if any faults as long as the owners will do normal service and preventive maintenance. Having been a mechanic for a long percentage of my life and scene the failure of many high end car manufactures that had to rush their new cars to market. I remember well when one of the top three European car makers designed one of their cars that sold for over $100,000.00 that came with 60 computer modules and the engineering department never even did an electrical draw test to find out how many amps the sleep and wake up modes of the computers would last using a single battery they used to power the whole car, in two to three weeks when the car was not driven it would completely drain the battery system and all the 60 computer data would erase, the car manufacture took back the cars with no questions asked when asked to do so by their owners. In my opinion Toyota is number one in the world for consistent quality and trouble free longevity...
Drove a 2016 prius from Seattle tro Astoria yesterday. 70.2MPG trip mileage. Cruise control almost the entire way. Took the 101 route instead of the I5 route.
I have the 2016 and call it The Wonder Car. As for the beep in reverse, my dealer, without charge, turned it off. I learned a number of tricks from the video.
We have had our Prius for a couple of months. More than half of the driving on this car is on the highway. We are averaging 64.4 MPG. We love our 2017 Prius!
@@agpawpaw5912, No,we don't have an ECO Prius. Most of the driving with the Prius is on the highwaywhich is more than 80 %. After 5 years we are still averaging 60 MPG.
I guess last generation just have better fuel efficiency. I’m driving 2010 Prius. In warm weather my average was above 55 mpg. Some time I was able to see even 60 by manual calculation. After installing new tires I understand where that 40s reported by other Prius owners come from. It’s just dropped by 10 mpg.
@@agpawpaw5912, Our Prius in warm weather averages about 65MPG. The 60 MPG average that we are getting is a 5 year average in a northern climate where the winter's get pretty cold.
Very Awesome. I dont understand why people dont like the Prius. 2006 120,000 miles changed spark plugs and oil changes my self, air filter etc. i still get 45 to 70 mpg depending on driving habits. Fill up for 20 bucks max. 600 plus miles. Extra money in the pocket. only issue was the touch screen but i fixed that my self google it. Being poor in the Delta this car has been a life saver and gas saver. Point A to point B. It's only Logical. Great video, thanks for posting!
My 2014 Volt has 60,000 miles on it with a lifetime mpg of 125 mpg. My gas generator has needed one oil change in that time. The generator has maybe 5,000 miles on it. I will never change the plugs. I may never change the air filter. I mainly runs off the battery. Prius is not state of the art. They have not kept up with Chevy. The Volt is so much better mpg, driving dynamics, and even price. You can buy a new 2017 Volt for about $22,000 after rebates.
the volt is said to go 50 miles on a charge, i looked up the cost for a full charge, its about 5 bucks- gas @ 2.50 a gallon, gives 2 gallons for the same cost in electricity. a car that gets 30 mpg, that gets you 60 miles for 5 bucks, the volt costs about 5 bucks to fully charge and gets 50 miles maybe. people that claim they get 65+ mpg are using a mix of gas / electric obviously but the true cost is not any better than a car that gets 30 mpg.
This is the closest I've seen to a decent and proper explanation of how the powertrain in this car works. I'm looking to get one of these in the UK as my next company car, to replace the Nissan Qashqai I currently have. I also saw the winter driving version of this. To be fair, I'd expect the engine to be doing more than the motors if it's cold, although here in the UK it doesn't often get that cold! Very much enjoyed seeing the car operated and your opinions on it. Far better than some of the online reviews I've seen which bleat on about all sorts of irrelevant things, even from supposedly decent magazines.

I saw one of your videos, maybe this one, before I got my Prius and thought no way this could be realistic. After having owned a 2021 Prius for a few weeks now, I can verify this is legit. With a moderately conscious awareness of my driving, I recently took about a 200 mile round trip including stop and go and long stretches and did indeed get over 70mpg. Thanks for the video!

@@SaraB2017 I have done a ton of traveling since just hitting 45k, a great deal on 75+ mph highways (which reduce mpg) and up and down mountain ranges and my overall average on the car since I bought it is still 53 mpg. I’m very pleased with it!

I have the 2016 Prius Three with the advanced technology package and love the adaptive cruise control. It is a solid, well-made car and you're right about it being much better than previous generations. I was thinking of a used 2010. I am getting high 60's mpg.
Samurai Shampoo Simply stating that it wouldn't be able to do off roading, jump curbs or anything alike which is obvious. It's not heavy duty. Maybe light duty. I have driven a Prius before and kept looking at the gas meter, wondering why it wouldn't move. See, in a V8 you have to worry about running out of fuel in the middle of rush hour traffic. I do actually own an economical vehicle though, it's a Ford Focus. About all I can do for now.
Adaptive cruise is such a nice feature. Use that a lot on my 2019 fusion hybrid with lane keeping assist. It even works in stop and go traffic. Wish my prius had it 😅@@seventh_adam4410
What you said at 5:10 onward is something I agree wholeheartedly. You don't necessarily need to be driving a EV or Hybrid to get EPA-beating MPG numbers if you use anticipatory driving techniques & just be smooth on throttle & brakes. Leaving a gap ahead during rush hour & letting cars in (while never using the brakes) works wonders, probably even moreso in your Hybrid than a regular car thanks to EV mode.
It's been 7 years but it is true. With my little 2019 Toyota Calya, I could get 40MPG easily with AC on and 50MPG with the AC off, all with just good driving.
Just bought a used Camry Hybrid....couldn't bring myself to get a smaller car, lol. I got leather, GPS, sunroof, heated seats....car is SMOOTH, and fast when I put the pedal down....I throw like $20 in the tank, and it almost lasts me 2 weeks, driving 6 days a week, LOL. Best decision I've made in a long time!!! THANKS for your video man, it really swayed me into learning about daily driving Hybrids.
Entirely true, a hybrid does change your perspective on the vehicle you drive. 20 years of manual gearbox and now e-CVT, it does give you a better perspective of what smooth and efficient driving means. The fight you put to depress the clutch, to change gears, pay attention to rev meter, all that now is used to get a better perspective of the road ahead, to drive smooth and to actually enjoy the trip...
Very thoughtful video. Thanks. I drove my new Prius home yesterday (200 km trip) and it was behaving just like yours. I noticed much more EV mode (electrical) usage after the warm-up on the highway. Drove through small towns almost completely on battery. Averaged 5L/100km total. I believe the main key to great fuel economy for the Prius C is smooth driving and no quick acceleration or braking. Also, your mileage was in the 70s because your average speed was often under 40 kph. At freeway speeds (100 kph etc), it drops, but I still get average of 55 mpg then. I have NO complaints about this terrific little car so far.
Since the 1950th Citroen DS, there was not much of a serious design change in personal vehicles until the Toyota Prius was designed with some updates and successfully sold worldwide. After my beloved top of the range 8 cyl. Lexus, I remembered my Citroen DS home in France and purchased a late Toyota Prius. This to polish up my renowned environmental image and to be independent of the petrol prices. I am known to be a rather critical customer. Toyota never let me down. The Prius has it all, an excellent manufacturing company, a superb design, an unsurpassed proven technology, and a great friend of my often deflated wallet. It's a gutsy car and just what I always wanted. Well done Toyota, I can only praise you!
Really good video man! I'm tired of people, always in a hurry to get nowhere fast...what's the point? I like the prius, just kick back and take your TIME in life, what's the hurry? Ya know. It seems like a driver interactive car that really makes you think of the REALITY of transportation....it makes you think about Inclines, Declines, Slow speed, High speed, it's really cool saving money....Don't get me wrong, I'm a Muscle Car guy, so I'm AWARE of all this stuff to save gas! Haha...but I get it, I totally get what the Prius is about...really thinking about picking one up! I'm a mechanical and electrical guy, I think it's really fucking cool!

I had the use of a new Prius for a day last week and was amazed at the ride, handling and economy. It was a real pleasure to drive, im very tempted to get one. It was very relaxing to drive, you feel detached from all the idiots racing about. Ive no time for those who cannot stick to speed limits or wish to tailgate but in the Prius it was far less stressful for some reason.
Besides making sure your car is in good condition how you drive the car is huge. I go up the mountains and home. I’ll average 80 miles a gallon. Don’t pound on the gas, don’t ride up other cars back only to brake, coast into red lights and don’t drive hard to the light and slam on the brakes. Take your time and enjoy your ride
Also, try to use Eco and Normal Mode only. Hence Eco mode for driving around town or city under 40mph. Normal Mode (for cruising) on highways 50mph or above. Only use Power Mode for going up a very steep hill. Normal Mode you can do (depending on how steep the hill is). If you follow these tips you will save a lot of gas and reduce journey times.
@@partyentertains4092 Absolutely!!!! I"m still playing with the eco mode. I've used that on the highways, but am finding that the normal mode is better in performance on the highway. My wife has the new Venza and she's experimenting when to use the eco and when to use the normal modes also.
i always get over 700 miles per tank on my 16 eco. love it. best trip was 35 miles at 88mpg in florida on flat road. does take a few miles to get the juices flowing.
That's something I missed doing with my prius, it was actually fun to drive slow. The prius offers a very engaging driving experience, just engaging in a fuel economy way, not a performance way.

I've had a 2016 Prius 4 Touring about 6 months, and over that time I've averaged 55 MPG. That is all types of driving - freeway at 70-80 mph, stop and go traffic, city driving. My 2005 Prius averaged 44 MPG in the same type of driving.
No shaking at all. Very stable even in cross-winds. More than adequate acceleration from any speed. Plus there's a "Power" mode that you can switch too that makes it appear more responsive, but maybe all it does is make the gas pedal more sensitive. It definitely has more power than my 2005 Prius had, and much better gas mileage.
I have a 2013 Prius and neither takes place, I live in the Dallas area where we have 70 and 75 mph speed limits and my Prius handles like a smooth dream and the very positive steering and suspension are excellent, granted the road noise leaves much to be desired , but I can forgive that when I get 49.8 MPG city and freeway and sometimes 54 MPG.
I needed a high mpg car for my long commute. I'd read about how the Prius is getting 50mpg and thought I'd give it a try. Sure, 50mpg is in the city and its less on the highway which is opposite of most conventional automobiles but that's still great. Bought a 2013 Prius III and love it. My work is 75 hilly miles away from home and to get there and back I'm averaging 45mpg. I'm thrilled. Quality you can see, hear and feel in these cars. Dependability, reliability and high mpg. I have a 2015 Prius V, and it really is a good car. It wasn't much more expensive for cars of a similar size and I'd have to get a diesel to get similar gas mileage. I can comfortably fit five adults (including myself) as well as a good amount of cargo. It seems to have more cargo space than my brother's SUV. It's not perfect - the acceleration isn't that great, but I generally don't try to accelerate quickly. Honestly how often do I really need to get up to 60MPH a couple seconds faster? I can get up to a sufficient speed to merge onto a highway with plenty of time to spare. The suspension isn't the smoothest as well, but that might have more to do with the tires. And a slight complaint that I wish the trunk was just an inch or two taller - I had a couple larger items that could just barely not fit. But I'll gladly trade that for getting 47+MPG on my daily commute (equal city and highway). That's, of course, a more conservative driving style but on my daily commute there's not much to gain by driving more aggressively. If I do long trips, I'll go faster (75-80ish) and I still get 43+MPG. Would I use it to haul a boat or drive it around a race track? No, but I don't have any need to.
I received my second hand prius plug in a week ago it is brilliant I had a hybrid 1.8 prius a few years ago this car is so much better in every way and my average mpg over the weekend was over 70 without trying
I have a 2016 prius and the info on gas in miles per gallon needs to be recalibrated. I drove 543.7 miles and used 9.35 gallons imperial of gas(58.149 miles per gallon) The car said that my trip average was 78 miles per gallon. The only way to get the real figures is fill the tank, go on a trip , total your miles and divide by gallons.
My 2020 Corolla hybrid will go up to 70MPH running EV in just the right conditions as well. My previous hybrid was the Prius C. I can comfortably cruise along up to 50-55MPH on even terrain with mid to half full charge (I live in FL, mostly flat here). The 2020 Corolla runs off the 4th gen Prius platform from my understanding. Love Toyota's hybrid platform because I hate automatic transmissions... the planetary gears in the Toyota hybrid platform is an acceptation because they are super smooth and dependable... even at high mileage. Love this auto trans; I only drove manuals before I got to experience the Prius transmission and learned about how dependable/reliable they were. I've had way too many bad experiences with automatic transmissions.
I’ve been driving a Corolla for many years which gets a honest 40 mpg on the highway. But on a recent trip I decided it’s time for something new. Or new to me, as it’s going to have to be a used car. I’m thinking the Prius is the ticket - I think Toyotas are the best and I could get seriously addicted to mileage in the 50 - 70 mpg range in these days of $5/gal gas. Hope I can find that Prius of my dreams.
I just left the gas station to topping up the tank,I drove 152 kms,and took $6 in fuel, worked out my mileage to getting 79.4 mpg's. this is my highest in one year of ownership on my 2015 Prius c.

I got rid of my beloved and new Subaru Outback Touring XT and picked up a new used Prius Prime. I couldn't enjoy the Outback because it ducked so much gas and i was in the station pumping gas twice per week, averaging about 2000 miles per month. I really love my Prius Prime.
In a gen 3 Prius, the dealer can change update the computer so it beeps only once in reverse. That was top on my list of 1st things to do. Excellent video. Thanks. It's obvious what the improvements over the Gen 3 were. I had one for 5 years, a 2011 Prius, package 2. I hear the engine is more efficient now, upwards of 40% efficient which is unheard of for a gas engine. Mainly I can tell the electric motor is more powerful and the main battery seems to have more capacity. In Gen 3, EV mode got you to 42 MPH on flats and occasionally I could do it at 50MPH or so on slower highways. Distance in EV mode was a 1 to 1.5 miles tops. Seems you can go farther and faster in EV mode which keeps the gas engine off more. It must be regenerating more efficiently too for charging the battery. 58MPG is about the best I'd do on that drive in my 2011. On the battery bars, I have had mine completely full (100% white) but it only happens going down large hills or mountains. Smokey mountains did it every time I drove through. The only time in Wisconsin to ever fill all bars on the battery was exiting off 151 to Hwy. 61 and coasting down to Potosi for beer. Big hill. The lowest mileage I ever got in the Gen 3 Prius was with the Sears 18 cu. ft. cargo shell on Yakima racks, car loaded with 2 people & camping gear, and doing 80-85 MPH in Indiana on the way home. 36 MPG with all that wind resistance. Not bad.
Drove from northern Nj to southern Nc with 1 refill. 600 miles, with 1 refill. Traveling that far for only $40? That and I was going 90mph the majority of the time? Nothing beats that. Well except Mustangs for cool points.
Not always for free! I went to two here in Northern CA and they tried to charge me (go figure) but I bought my car from a Lexus dealership, it may be different if you purchased direct from Toyota. I ended up buying my own tool and disabling the reverse and seat belt button beep, takes about 10 minutes.
slim Large it should be free....only takes maybe 5 minutes at most with a toyota/lexus scan tool. And being so easy and quick it shouldn't matter where you bought your vehicle. If they charge you, especially a decent amount of $$, then I would consider them to be ripping you off at every turn and not return to that facility....
It's not power mode if you're accelerating and the bar is in the power section of the bar. When you have the bar in the power section, it uses battery power, rather than charging battery. You can oftentimes accelerate just as well by keeping that bar just below power. Power mode is activated with the push button next to the EV button. Additionally, it's not going into EV mode on the highway. It's called hybrid mode. EV mode maxes out at 25 mph when the engine is up to operating temps. If the engine is cold, the EV kicks off at 18 mph.
I love Toyota hybrids so much. I had a 2014 Avalon hybrid, drove on an 8 hour trip, without having to stop once for gas. We also have an 07 Prius that finally gave out at 398k miles… and that’s cause it was a daily commuter and kind of beat up.

I keep my cruise control at 55 miles per hour no matter what I am driving in the work truck I get over 22 miles per gallon in a V8 in my Sentra I get over 45 when I had the second gen Prius I would get 60
I'm getting 50 - 51 mpg on my 2016 and I'm tickled. I never had a car that got anywhere near what the EPA mileage states (I have a heavy foot). My 2012 Chevy Volt never got anywhere near the EPA mileage. I agree the styling is hideous (the rear only) but I'm getting used to it. The white console color doesn't bother me, since I have the beige interior. All in all, the car is great. Way better than my 2008 Prius, except for the lack of storage areas.
After putting 45k miles on it, I got the feeling it wasn't going to hold up long term. Kind of thought it was getting to be what we used to call Amercian cars years ago, a "rattle trap". It really wasn't bad, but since the car was so quiet, any little rattle becomes annoying. The interior room and ergonomics were a bit annoying. I bought an '08 Prius to hold me over, waiting for the next gen Volt and Prius. As a lease, the Volt might be ok, but long term ownership I decided the Prius is the way to go. BTW, I had a major drive-train repair needed on the Volt. Glad it was covered under warranty. My '08 Prius, which I still have, has 226k miles on it, and it tight as a drum and still runs great.
Wow, good to know. I really like the fact you can go 40-50 miles before using gas (on the gen 2), but couldn't get over the fact it would be a Chevy, and they're relatively new at the hybrid game.
...it's also worth noting my best MPG on a complete tank of gas is 66MPG. Takes me around a month to go through a tank of gas lol. My trucks (e.g. Power Wagon, 2500 Cummin diesels) I was filling once a week and they weren't cheap to run. Thanks for your video, you know your stuff and really understand how this system works... same here. You did teach me about that hydraulic noise... I always wondered what that was as my Corolla Hybrid does engage electronic parking brakes (which I didn't hear in my Prius C). I'd have no problem owning another Prius, just the Corolla looks nicer on the outside IMO and was much cheaper for me at $21,700 out the door with a sticker of $24,300 on a 2020... felt like a steal of a deal.
I'm waiting for the 2017 Prius PRIME. That's going to be the best one yet! I currently have the 2013 Prius, and love it. Good luck with that beautiful car.
i went to my dealer and they told me that here in canada it's by law that cars with fast shifters like this must have the reverse beeping sound, and for the 2016 model they can't even access this option even if they are willing to.
you can just get a Bluetooth ELM (pretty cheap from AliExpress), plug it into the OBD port, turn the car on, use DashCommand/TorquePro on an Android phone to customise this, turn off the car then unplug it.
My wife has a 2016. It's very sweet to drive! I have a 2007. Just be forewarned; practice shifting into neutral. That's all I'll say. Btw, we railed out to Denver in October and rented a Hundai Elantra for our four-corners states trip of 1600 miles. The Elantra was quite nice. It got 45-55 mpg on the highways...looonnnggg flat highways! What a surprise. But it wasn't the superior ride of the Prius...but 45-55 mpg! Not a hybrid.
I hate to admit you are right; Its not like flying an airplane through clear sky. I would use larger fonts with bold type and different colors so you could select and glance at only the important few that the driver selects, but then again that is just me!
True that these people might be looking at their gauges more. But they're generally careful drivers, I would say. But.. you have a point, yes. A reminder for myself to drive safely
The reverse beep is meant as a safety feature so you don't accidentally put it in reverse and run someone or something over. If you'd like to know your Prius more in depth, I am the Hybrid and technology expert at Ballweg Toyota of Wausau.
That beeping sound is a programmable feature. You can have it turned to one beep by having your dealer reprogram it. There are many other programmable features listed in the owners handbook.

I don't blame you for not being particularly fond of highway driving with a Prius. My 2014 Prius C doesn't really like going much over 65 MPH. Fortunately the highways around where I live only go above 75 once they leave the city with one exception.
...maintaining the battery within the level you speak increases the longevity of batteries... to keep them performing optimally over a long life period.... hence why so many Prius owner get 10+ years out of them. Also, I love stop and go traffic and going through drive-throughs or just sitting with the AC running and knowing I'm not chewing the cash out of my wallet.
At 10:05 you could have eased off the accelerator around 500ft earlier, since you were on a downhill, you don't lose as much momentum. Furthermore, you don't have take so much juice out of the battery and regen it, saving conversion losses twice.
I have a 2016 and I’ve averaged 64.3 on the 42,000+ mileage on the car. The current tank is 364 miles at 64.3mpg. I do a lot to extend mileage. I don’t think you can average 70+ mpg for the life of the car. Sure I have hit 80+ even higher on slower trips and a few down hill coasting. I use cruise control on anything over 28 mph, as cruise won’t go on slower than that. I don’t impede traffic, if it’s 25 I go 28. 35, I go 40, etc. I use cruise control for all level and up hill roads, I always turn it off and coast on any down hill or even slight downgrades with light foot on pedal. I always have it on Eco mode. The few times I Needed acceleration, it was right there. In general no rapid starts, no gunning it whenever not necessary, which is 99+% of the time. It’s fun to drive.

On the 2022 Prius, they took away the backup beep and replaced it with a earth Vader sounding noise on the outside of the car, it sounds very cool and it’s not annoying.
Yeah! I’m the first one in MN to get the nightshade edition and it’s as cool or cooler as the pictures online! It just looks like a void at night and there’s actually blue metal flaking that looks amazing in the sun!
I got toyota chr hybrid same motore of prius 4, I'm from Italy, try to pulse and glide, you gona have bettery very full charge (that mean less discarghe and richarge make it last very longer) and cpnsuming like nothings, if you discarge the battery because the you charge it in highway, is notf right, because with battery low, in highway will consuming the double.... but the way glad to speak with you... have a nice day, God bless America and Italy too! 😀
You must not work a lot if it’s lasting 2 weeks. I do food delivery and will burn over a tank a week in my 2020 Prius and that’s averaging in the high 60s.
@oddities-whatnot yeah hybrids are zippy. Someone wisely pointed out that between 40-65 mph the priest gets the best gas mileage, which is when it's slowest with acceleration too. It's all how it's geared to run. Not a slow car though. I have an 05 prius and it easily overtakes on the highway. My only gripe with the car is you can't easily turn traction control off and it will engage several times if you have to punch it
10:50 That's really smart of Toyota when you think of it. Batteries run most efficiency at 25-80%. So by maintaining 2 bars below full, it's probably at 80-85% capacity, making it most efficient. That's gnarly.
This was the video I was looking for to ease me out of my Jetta TDI into a Prius. I was not sure if I wanted the Prius or the V. Now I have a slightly better idea.
Just test drove the Ioniq hybrid yesterday and it will be fun comparing it to a Prius 4. The car was fully fittet and really had all the toys - including ventilated, electronic leather seats, all digital (modern) instrument cluster and apple car play! On the other hand, it was rather noisy and the seats didn't offer sufficient leg support in front. I was also disturbed by the constant switching between EV and ICE, where the petrol engine was quite noisy. It was quite difficult to keep it in EV mode too long, despite half of the battery being charged. It was also fitted with the dual-clutch gearbox which I don't think was as smooth as the CVT on the prius is, based on my experience as passenger in Prius taxis. On my 8 mile drive through the city I had an average of almost 100mpg. But the pricing is VERY good - and a tough nut to crack for the Prius.
I think that the sales in the US are just about to start. It would be good if you could make a test drive in the same way you drive your Prius and then make an honest, objective comparison. It is difficult to find such a review since people are either hard core Prius fans or Ioniq fans.
1:00 / My hack is to warm up the car first. 1: turn the car on. 2: press the EV/HV button once. 3: Then tap the gas pedal with your foot. About 10% of pressure. It will then warm up the engine. Once the engine is warm, the gas engine will turn off. That's when I leave the driveway. I only live 2 minutes from the freeway. And the car doesn't drive good without the engine warm on the freeway. I'm a coaster from way way back. Mom would say to me, "let me out here and I'll meet you at the corner" lol but dang after this informative video, I think I'll keep my Soul ! You can turn off the reverse beeping using Dr. Prius app and the OBD2 connector gadget. I'll cost money but it's possible. The app includes an adapter buying guide to help you choose the correct one.
Im averaging anywhere between 38-42mpg in POWER mode (still good!) & 42-51mpg in regular mode (still good!) I went from a 2008 Mustang Gt to my now 2013 Prius... so either way im making double in Mpg. Where i live (southern california) it is hard to go as slow as 55/60mph on the freeway. To keep with traffic (as you should here) you gotta go atleast 70mph which means less gas saving
Toyota actually had two goals with its hybrid technology: efficiency and low emissions. The engine comes on to warm up the catalytic converter to keep the emissions down.
You can really improve your regenerative braking coming off of the highway. Decelerate with maximum regen (just barely riding the brake pedal) for the entire exit ramp, and approach the ramp at the speed limit rather than at 70 MPH. You'll notice your braking "score" improve, as well.
@Jettlash, great videos, been learning a lot from you today about hybrid driving techniques :) One question @ 10:15, did you use the braking pedal to regenerate power from the exit ramp, or will the Prius automatically regenerate power from coasting as well (and to what extent?). I normally score 25Kmpl on condition that no stoppings due to traffic & avg speed is 60Kmph on 2013 prius. Its a gamble between acceleration & the battery power. The objective should be charge the battery at least 75% asap & then go for "glidings" as much as possible without reaching the red area or the indication of power from engine & battery both, as it reduce Kmpl heavily. But do not go too slow though, as it doesn't help to charge the battery. No battery power - no higher kmpl.
My 2005 Prius has done 280 000 miles and have never had any issue's! Good luck FORD and GM!

The most brilliant engineering to date in the automotive world dating back to the early 90's, I just bought a 2013 Prius and it very much reminds me of the first day I slid into an airplane cockpit and looked at the instrument panel back in the late 70's. I have so much respect for Toyota and her engineering division, to make the most technological advanced automobile to date that actually has few if any faults as long as the owners will do normal service and preventive maintenance.
Having been a mechanic for a long percentage of my life and scene the failure of many high end car manufactures that had to rush their new cars to market. I remember well when one of the top three European car makers designed one of their cars that sold for over $100,000.00 that came with 60 computer modules and the engineering department never even did an electrical draw test to find out how many amps the sleep and wake up modes of the computers would last using a single battery they used to power the whole car, in two to three weeks when the car was not driven it would completely drain the battery system and all the 60 computer data would erase, the car manufacture took back the cars with no questions asked when asked to do so by their owners.
In my opinion Toyota is number one in the world for consistent quality and trouble free longevity...

We have had our Prius for a couple of months. More than half of the driving on this car is on the highway. We are averaging 64.4 MPG. We love our 2017 Prius!

I guess last generation just have better fuel efficiency. I’m driving 2010 Prius. In warm weather my average was above 55 mpg. Some time I was able to see even 60 by manual calculation. After installing new tires I understand where that 40s reported by other Prius owners come from. It’s just dropped by 10 mpg.
@@agpawpaw5912, Our Prius in warm weather averages about 65MPG. The 60 MPG average that we are getting is a 5 year average in a northern climate where the winter's get pretty cold.

Very Awesome. I dont understand why people dont like the Prius. 2006 120,000 miles changed spark plugs and oil changes my self, air filter etc. i still get 45 to 70 mpg depending on driving habits. Fill up for 20 bucks max. 600 plus miles. Extra money in the pocket. only issue was the touch screen but i fixed that my self google it. Being poor in the Delta this car has been a life saver and gas saver. Point A to point B. It's only Logical. Great video, thanks for posting!

My 2014 Volt has 60,000 miles on it with a lifetime mpg of 125 mpg. My gas generator has needed one oil change in that time. The generator has maybe 5,000 miles on it. I will never change the plugs. I may never change the air filter. I mainly runs off the battery. Prius is not state of the art. They have not kept up with Chevy. The Volt is so much better mpg, driving dynamics, and even price. You can buy a new 2017 Volt for about $22,000 after rebates.

the volt is said to go 50 miles on a charge, i looked up the cost for a full charge, its about 5 bucks- gas @ 2.50 a gallon, gives 2 gallons for the same cost in electricity. a car that gets 30 mpg, that gets you 60 miles for 5 bucks, the volt costs about 5 bucks to fully charge and gets 50 miles maybe. people that claim they get 65+ mpg are using a mix of gas / electric obviously but the true cost is not any better than a car that gets 30 mpg.
Leon Graves , I've gotten 80mpg on my 2009 Mazda 6 2.2L Diesel driving at 50mph on the motorway. I can get 760 miles on a full tank of fuel.
This is the closest I've seen to a decent and proper explanation of how the powertrain in this car works. I'm looking to get one of these in the UK as my next company car, to replace the Nissan Qashqai I currently have. I also saw the winter driving version of this. To be fair, I'd expect the engine to be doing more than the motors if it's cold, although here in the UK it doesn't often get that cold! Very much enjoyed seeing the car operated and your opinions on it. Far better than some of the online reviews I've seen which bleat on about all sorts of irrelevant things, even from supposedly decent magazines.

I saw one of your videos, maybe this one, before I got my Prius and thought no way this could be realistic. After having owned a 2021 Prius for a few weeks now, I can verify this is legit. With a moderately conscious awareness of my driving, I recently took about a 200 mile round trip including stop and go and long stretches and did indeed get over 70mpg. Thanks for the video!

@@SaraB2017 I have done a ton of traveling since just hitting 45k, a great deal on 75+ mph highways (which reduce mpg) and up and down mountain ranges and my overall average on the car since I bought it is still 53 mpg. I’m very pleased with it!

In Dublin Ireland this is the taxi drivers car of choice which means they must be efficient on petrol and reliable. I've never seen one broken down.

I have the 2016 Prius Three with the advanced technology package and love the adaptive cruise control. It is a solid, well-made car and you're right about it being much better than previous generations. I was thinking of a used 2010. I am getting high 60's mpg.

What you said at 5:10 onward is something I agree wholeheartedly. You don't necessarily need to be driving a EV or Hybrid to get EPA-beating MPG numbers if you use anticipatory driving techniques & just be smooth on throttle & brakes. Leaving a gap ahead during rush hour & letting cars in (while never using the brakes) works wonders, probably even moreso in your Hybrid than a regular car thanks to EV mode.
I've been tempted to just shut off the EV mode indicator and do a few hundred miles without watching to see how I do.
It's been 7 years but it is true. With my little 2019 Toyota Calya, I could get 40MPG easily with AC on and 50MPG with the AC off, all with just good driving.
Just bought a used Camry Hybrid....couldn't bring myself to get a smaller car, lol. I got leather, GPS, sunroof, heated seats....car is SMOOTH, and fast when I put the pedal down....I throw like $20 in the tank, and it almost lasts me 2 weeks, driving 6 days a week, LOL. Best decision I've made in a long time!!! THANKS for your video man, it really swayed me into learning about daily driving Hybrids.

Entirely true, a hybrid does change your perspective on the vehicle you drive. 20 years of manual gearbox and now e-CVT, it does give you a better perspective of what smooth and efficient driving means. The fight you put to depress the clutch, to change gears, pay attention to rev meter, all that now is used to get a better perspective of the road ahead, to drive smooth and to actually enjoy the trip...
Very thoughtful video. Thanks. I drove my new Prius home yesterday (200 km trip) and it was behaving just like yours. I noticed much more EV mode (electrical) usage after the warm-up on the highway. Drove through small towns almost completely on battery. Averaged 5L/100km total.
I believe the main key to great fuel economy for the Prius C is smooth driving and no quick acceleration or braking. Also, your mileage was in the 70s because your average speed was often under 40 kph. At freeway speeds (100 kph etc), it drops, but I still get average of 55 mpg then. I have NO complaints about this terrific little car so far.

Since the 1950th Citroen DS, there was not much of a serious design change in personal vehicles until the Toyota Prius was designed with some updates and successfully sold worldwide. After my beloved top of the range 8 cyl. Lexus, I remembered my Citroen DS home in France and purchased a late Toyota Prius. This to polish up my renowned environmental image and to be independent of the petrol prices. I am known to be a rather critical customer. Toyota never let me down. The Prius has it all, an excellent manufacturing company, a superb design, an unsurpassed proven technology, and a great friend of my often deflated wallet. It's a gutsy car and just what I always wanted. Well done Toyota, I can only praise you!

I had the use of a new Prius for a day last week and was amazed at the ride, handling and economy. It was a real pleasure to drive, im very tempted to get one. It was very relaxing to drive, you feel detached from all the idiots racing about. Ive no time for those who cannot stick to speed limits or wish to tailgate but in the Prius it was far less stressful for some reason.
Besides making sure your car is in good condition how you drive the car is huge.
I go up the mountains and home. I’ll average 80 miles a gallon.
Don’t pound on the gas, don’t ride up other cars back only to brake, coast into red lights and don’t drive hard to the light and slam on the brakes.
Take your time and enjoy your ride
Also, try to use Eco and Normal Mode only. Hence Eco mode for driving around town or city under 40mph. Normal Mode (for cruising) on highways 50mph or above. Only use Power Mode for going up a very steep hill. Normal Mode you can do (depending on how steep the hill is). If you follow these tips you will save a lot of gas and reduce journey times.
@@partyentertains4092 Absolutely!!!! I"m still playing with the eco mode. I've used that on the highways, but am finding that the normal mode is better in performance on the highway.
My wife has the new Venza and she's experimenting when to use the eco and when to use the normal modes also.
i always get over 700 miles per tank on my 16 eco. love it. best trip was 35 miles at 88mpg in florida on flat road. does take a few miles to get the juices flowing.

I've had a 2016 Prius 4 Touring about 6 months, and over that time I've averaged 55 MPG. That is all types of driving - freeway at 70-80 mph, stop and go traffic, city driving. My 2005 Prius averaged 44 MPG in the same type of driving.

No shaking at all. Very stable even in cross-winds. More than adequate acceleration from any speed. Plus there's a "Power" mode that you can switch too that makes it appear more responsive, but maybe all it does is make the gas pedal more sensitive. It definitely has more power than my 2005 Prius had, and much better gas mileage.
I have a 2013 Prius and neither takes place, I live in the Dallas area where we have 70 and 75 mph speed limits and my Prius handles like a smooth dream and the very positive steering and suspension are excellent, granted the road noise leaves much to be desired , but I can forgive that when I get 49.8 MPG city and freeway and sometimes 54 MPG.
I needed a high mpg car for my long commute. I'd read about how the Prius is getting 50mpg and thought I'd give it a try. Sure, 50mpg is in the city and its less on the highway which is opposite of most conventional automobiles but that's still great. Bought a 2013 Prius III and love it. My work is 75 hilly miles away from home and to get there and back I'm averaging 45mpg. I'm thrilled.

I have a 2015 Prius V, and it really is a good car. It wasn't much more expensive for cars of a similar size and I'd have to get a diesel to get similar gas mileage. I can comfortably fit five adults (including myself) as well as a good amount of cargo. It seems to have more cargo space than my brother's SUV.
It's not perfect - the acceleration isn't that great, but I generally don't try to accelerate quickly. Honestly how often do I really need to get up to 60MPH a couple seconds faster? I can get up to a sufficient speed to merge onto a highway with plenty of time to spare. The suspension isn't the smoothest as well, but that might have more to do with the tires. And a slight complaint that I wish the trunk was just an inch or two taller - I had a couple larger items that could just barely not fit.
But I'll gladly trade that for getting 47+MPG on my daily commute (equal city and highway).
That's, of course, a more conservative driving style but on my daily commute there's not much to gain by driving more aggressively. If I do long trips, I'll go faster (75-80ish) and I still get 43+MPG.
Would I use it to haul a boat or drive it around a race track? No, but I don't have any need to.

I received my second hand prius plug in a week ago it is brilliant I had a hybrid 1.8 prius a few years ago this car is so much better in every way and my average mpg over the weekend was over 70 without trying
I have a 2016 prius and the info on gas in miles per gallon needs to be recalibrated. I drove 543.7 miles and used 9.35 gallons imperial of gas(58.149 miles per gallon) The car said that my trip average was 78 miles per gallon. The only way to get the real figures is fill the tank, go on a trip , total your miles and divide by gallons.
I do this too. Based on my results and many others on Priuschat forums, it's off by about 2 mpg.
My 2020 Corolla hybrid will go up to 70MPH running EV in just the right conditions as well. My previous hybrid was the Prius C. I can comfortably cruise along up to 50-55MPH on even terrain with mid to half full charge (I live in FL, mostly flat here). The 2020 Corolla runs off the 4th gen Prius platform from my understanding. Love Toyota's hybrid platform because I hate automatic transmissions... the planetary gears in the Toyota hybrid platform is an acceptation because they are super smooth and dependable... even at high mileage. Love this auto trans; I only drove manuals before I got to experience the Prius transmission and learned about how dependable/reliable they were. I've had way too many bad experiences with automatic transmissions.
I’ve been driving a Corolla for many years which gets a honest 40 mpg on the highway. But on a recent trip I decided it’s time for something new. Or new to me, as it’s going to have to be a used car. I’m thinking the Prius is the ticket - I think Toyotas are the best and I could get seriously addicted to mileage in the 50 - 70 mpg range in these days of $5/gal gas. Hope I can find that Prius of my dreams.
I just left the gas station to topping up the tank,I drove 152 kms,and took $6 in fuel, worked out my mileage to getting 79.4 mpg's. this is my highest in one year of ownership on my 2015 Prius c.

I got rid of my beloved and new Subaru Outback Touring XT and picked up a new used Prius Prime. I couldn't enjoy the Outback because it ducked so much gas and i was in the station pumping gas twice per week, averaging about 2000 miles per month. I really love my Prius Prime.
In a gen 3 Prius, the dealer can change update the computer so it beeps only once in reverse. That was top on my list of 1st things to do.
Excellent video. Thanks. It's obvious what the improvements over the Gen 3 were. I had one for 5 years, a 2011 Prius, package 2. I hear the engine is more efficient now, upwards of 40% efficient which is unheard of for a gas engine. Mainly I can tell the electric motor is more powerful and the main battery seems to have more capacity. In Gen 3, EV mode got you to 42 MPH on flats and occasionally I could do it at 50MPH or so on slower highways. Distance in EV mode was a 1 to 1.5 miles tops. Seems you can go farther and faster in EV mode which keeps the gas engine off more. It must be regenerating more efficiently too for charging the battery. 58MPG is about the best I'd do on that drive in my 2011. On the battery bars, I have had mine completely full (100% white) but it only happens going down large hills or mountains. Smokey mountains did it every time I drove through. The only time in Wisconsin to ever fill all bars on the battery was exiting off 151 to Hwy. 61 and coasting down to Potosi for beer. Big hill. The lowest mileage I ever got in the Gen 3 Prius was with the Sears 18 cu. ft. cargo shell on Yakima racks, car loaded with 2 people & camping gear, and doing 80-85 MPH in Indiana on the way home. 36 MPG with all that wind resistance. Not bad.
Drove from northern Nj to southern Nc with 1 refill. 600 miles, with 1 refill. Traveling that far for only $40? That and I was going 90mph the majority of the time? Nothing beats that. Well except Mustangs for cool points.

Not always for free! I went to two here in Northern CA and they tried to charge me (go figure) but I bought my car from a Lexus dealership, it may be different if you purchased direct from Toyota. I ended up buying my own tool and disabling the reverse and seat belt button beep, takes about 10 minutes.
slim Large it should be free....only takes maybe 5 minutes at most with a toyota/lexus scan tool. And being so easy and quick it shouldn't matter where you bought your vehicle. If they charge you, especially a decent amount of $$, then I would consider them to be ripping you off at every turn and not return to that facility....
Your dealership can disable the reverse beeping - first thing I had mine do before I took delivery. :)
It's not power mode if you're accelerating and the bar is in the power section of the bar. When you have the bar in the power section, it uses battery power, rather than charging battery. You can oftentimes accelerate just as well by keeping that bar just below power. Power mode is activated with the push button next to the EV button. Additionally, it's not going into EV mode on the highway. It's called hybrid mode. EV mode maxes out at 25 mph when the engine is up to operating temps. If the engine is cold, the EV kicks off at 18 mph.
I love Toyota hybrids so much. I had a 2014 Avalon hybrid, drove on an 8 hour trip, without having to stop once for gas. We also have an 07 Prius that finally gave out at 398k miles… and that’s cause it was a daily commuter and kind of beat up.

I keep my cruise control at 55 miles per hour no matter what I am driving in the work truck I get over 22 miles per gallon in a V8 in my Sentra I get over 45 when I had the second gen Prius I would get 60

I'm getting 50 - 51 mpg on my 2016 and I'm tickled. I never had a car that got anywhere near what the EPA mileage states (I have a heavy foot). My 2012 Chevy Volt never got anywhere near the EPA mileage. I agree the styling is hideous (the rear only) but I'm getting used to it. The white console color doesn't bother me, since I have the beige interior. All in all, the car is great. Way better than my 2008 Prius, except for the lack of storage areas.
I was very tempted to get the Volt, but couldn't justify the additional cost. How did you like it?
After putting 45k miles on it, I got the feeling it wasn't going to hold up long term. Kind of thought it was getting to be what we used to call Amercian cars years ago, a "rattle trap". It really wasn't bad, but since the car was so quiet, any little rattle becomes annoying. The interior room and ergonomics were a bit annoying. I bought an '08 Prius to hold me over, waiting for the next gen Volt and Prius. As a lease, the Volt might be ok, but long term ownership I decided the Prius is the way to go. BTW, I had a major drive-train repair needed on the Volt. Glad it was covered under warranty. My '08 Prius, which I still have, has 226k miles on it, and it tight as a drum and still runs great.
Wow, good to know. I really like the fact you can go 40-50 miles before using gas (on the gen 2), but couldn't get over the fact it would be a Chevy, and they're relatively new at the hybrid game.
...it's also worth noting my best MPG on a complete tank of gas is 66MPG. Takes me around a month to go through a tank of gas lol. My trucks (e.g. Power Wagon, 2500 Cummin diesels) I was filling once a week and they weren't cheap to run. Thanks for your video, you know your stuff and really understand how this system works... same here. You did teach me about that hydraulic noise... I always wondered what that was as my Corolla Hybrid does engage electronic parking brakes (which I didn't hear in my Prius C). I'd have no problem owning another Prius, just the Corolla looks nicer on the outside IMO and was much cheaper for me at $21,700 out the door with a sticker of $24,300 on a 2020... felt like a steal of a deal.

The dealer can turn off the consistent reverse beeping for you or you can turn it off yourself with Carista :) Can be switched to just a single beep.
i went to my dealer and they told me that here in canada it's by law that cars with fast shifters like this must have the reverse beeping sound, and for the 2016 model they can't even access this option even if they are willing to.

you can just get a Bluetooth ELM (pretty cheap from AliExpress), plug it into the OBD port, turn the car on, use DashCommand/TorquePro on an Android phone to customise this, turn off the car then unplug it.
Here in Germany the dealer can change the beeping to one single short beep, when you put the Prius into reverse.

My wife has a 2016. It's very sweet to drive! I have a 2007. Just be forewarned; practice shifting into neutral. That's all I'll say. Btw, we railed out to Denver in October and rented a Hundai Elantra for our four-corners states trip of 1600 miles. The Elantra was quite nice. It got 45-55 mpg on the highways...looonnnggg flat highways! What a surprise. But it wasn't the superior ride of the Prius...but 45-55 mpg! Not a hybrid.

I hate to admit you are right; Its not like flying an airplane through clear sky. I would use larger fonts with bold type and different colors so you could select and glance at only the important few that the driver selects, but then again that is just me!

True that these people might be looking at their gauges more. But they're generally careful drivers, I would say. But.. you have a point, yes. A reminder for myself to drive safely

The reverse beep is meant as a safety feature so you don't accidentally put it in reverse and run someone or something over.

That beeping sound is a programmable feature. You can have it turned to one beep by having your dealer reprogram it. There are many other programmable features listed in the owners handbook.

I don't blame you for not being particularly fond of highway driving with a Prius. My 2014 Prius C doesn't really like going much over 65 MPH. Fortunately the highways around where I live only go above 75 once they leave the city with one exception.
I traveled on the highway to home(about 8.5 miles at 65 mph) and it got 70 mpg. Pretty nice.
...maintaining the battery within the level you speak increases the longevity of batteries... to keep them performing optimally over a long life period.... hence why so many Prius owner get 10+ years out of them. Also, I love stop and go traffic and going through drive-throughs or just sitting with the AC running and knowing I'm not chewing the cash out of my wallet.
At 10:05 you could have eased off the accelerator around 500ft earlier, since you were on a downhill, you don't lose as much momentum. Furthermore, you don't have take so much juice out of the battery and regen it, saving conversion losses twice.
I have the 2016 prius too by the way. My best record is my full tank o gas lasted me 13 days :)

I have a 2016 and I’ve averaged 64.3 on the 42,000+ mileage on the car. The current tank is 364 miles at 64.3mpg. I do a lot to extend mileage. I don’t think you can average 70+ mpg for the life of the car. Sure I have hit 80+ even higher on slower trips and a few down hill coasting. I use cruise control on anything over 28 mph, as cruise won’t go on slower than that. I don’t impede traffic, if it’s 25 I go 28. 35, I go 40, etc. I use cruise control for all level and up hill roads, I always turn it off and coast on any down hill or even slight downgrades with light foot on pedal. I always have it on Eco mode. The few times I Needed acceleration, it was right there. In general no rapid starts, no gunning it whenever not necessary, which is 99+% of the time. It’s fun to drive.
I would agree 100%. In perfect conditions, I could hit over 70, but not every day.
The civic hybrid has a slightly lower average MPG, but it has a different hybrid system so you get better mileage on the highway.

On the 2022 Prius, they took away the backup beep and replaced it with a earth Vader sounding noise on the outside of the car, it sounds very cool and it’s not annoying.

I got toyota chr hybrid same motore of prius 4, I'm from Italy, try to pulse and glide, you gona have bettery very full charge (that mean less discarghe and richarge make it last very longer) and cpnsuming like nothings, if you discarge the battery because the you charge it in highway, is notf right, because with battery low, in highway will consuming the double.... but the way glad to speak with you... have a nice day, God bless America and Italy too! 😀

You must not work a lot if it’s lasting 2 weeks. I do food delivery and will burn over a tank a week in my 2020 Prius and that’s averaging in the high 60s.
The eco model is great I put it in eco mode and get 61 mpg really great long lasting vehicle.
Its quick enough in eco mode as well.
@oddities-whatnot yeah hybrids are zippy. Someone wisely pointed out that between 40-65 mph the priest gets the best gas mileage, which is when it's slowest with acceleration too. It's all how it's geared to run. Not a slow car though. I have an 05 prius and it easily overtakes on the highway. My only gripe with the car is you can't easily turn traction control off and it will engage several times if you have to punch it
10:50 That's really smart of Toyota when you think of it. Batteries run most efficiency at 25-80%. So by maintaining 2 bars below full, it's probably at 80-85% capacity, making it most efficient. That's gnarly.
Probably makes them last longer too. Saving even more money in the long run. I get horny about these Priuses.

Just test drove the Ioniq hybrid yesterday and it will be fun comparing it to a Prius 4.
The car was fully fittet and really had all the toys - including ventilated, electronic leather seats, all digital (modern) instrument cluster and apple car play! On the other hand, it was rather noisy and the seats didn't offer sufficient leg support in front. I was also disturbed by the constant switching between EV and ICE, where the petrol engine was quite noisy. It was quite difficult to keep it in EV mode too long, despite half of the battery being charged. It was also fitted with the dual-clutch gearbox which I don't think was as smooth as the CVT on the prius is, based on my experience as passenger in Prius taxis. On my 8 mile drive through the city I had an average of almost 100mpg.
But the pricing is VERY good - and a tough nut to crack for the Prius.
I would love to get behind the wheel of the Ioniq.
I think that the sales in the US are just about to start. It would be good if you could make a test drive in the same way you drive your Prius and then make an honest, objective comparison. It is difficult to find such a review since people are either hard core Prius fans or Ioniq fans.

1:00 / My hack is to warm up the car first. 1: turn the car on. 2: press the EV/HV button once. 3: Then tap the gas pedal with your foot. About 10% of pressure. It will then warm up the engine. Once the engine is warm, the gas engine will turn off. That's when I leave the driveway. I only live 2 minutes from the freeway. And the car doesn't drive good without the engine warm on the freeway. Sorry, for Prime model only

I'm a coaster from way way back. Mom would say to me, "let me out here and I'll meet you at the corner" lol but dang after this informative video, I think I'll keep my Soul ! You can turn off the reverse beeping using Dr. Prius app and the OBD2 connector gadget. I'll cost money but it's possible. The app includes an adapter buying guide to help you choose the correct one.

Im averaging anywhere between 38-42mpg in POWER mode (still good!) & 42-51mpg in regular mode (still good!)
I went from a 2008 Mustang Gt to my now 2013 Prius... so either way im making double in Mpg. Where i live (southern california) it is hard to go as slow as 55/60mph on the freeway. To keep with traffic (as you should here) you gotta go atleast 70mph which means less gas saving
Toyota actually had two goals with its hybrid technology: efficiency and low emissions. The engine comes on to warm up the catalytic converter to keep the emissions down.
Great video. Confirms a lot of the techniques I use, but learned a few things as well. So what do you typically get for gas mileage going home?
You can really improve your regenerative braking coming off of the highway. Decelerate with maximum regen (just barely riding the brake pedal) for the entire exit ramp, and approach the ramp at the speed limit rather than at 70 MPH. You'll notice your braking "score" improve, as well.
It feels like it's charging better, it could be in my head, but I'm thinking everything is breaking in.
@Jettlash, great videos, been learning a lot from you today about hybrid driving techniques :) One question @ 10:15, did you use the braking pedal to regenerate power from the exit ramp, or will the Prius automatically regenerate power from coasting as well (and to what extent?). Keep up the good work, and that mpg up. Nice rating you got also btw!
It automaticly regenerates power when you slow down. And if you use the brake pedal, the actual brakes will only engage once you passed the limit
I normally score 25Kmpl on condition that no stoppings due to traffic & avg speed is 60Kmph on 2013 prius. Its a gamble between acceleration & the battery power. The objective should be charge the battery at least 75% asap & then go for "glidings" as much as possible without reaching the red area or the indication of power from engine & battery both, as it reduce Kmpl heavily. But do not go too slow though, as it doesn't help to charge the battery. No battery power - no higher kmpl.
