Dear Palki same is happening in Himalayan state of Uttarakhand, leading to disaster.
Agree! Uttarakhand n Himachal Pradesh are both afflicted by excessive tourism. Goa is another state that is dying due to over tourism
It's not all related to tourism but people over creating residential property on mountains because of the population increase too.
Completely agree.
Tourism regulation is required
Yes I knew because Capitalism isn't good
@@dhirajgawande007Not tourism but people who are making structures there.
Same with Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. The overtourism has led more traffic in the city as well as it is losing its original charm and peace . Ghats and temples have become overcrowded and places that were earlier known to give calmness to your mind are now echoing with noises. The native residents of the city are facing many issues because of this overtourism
To government ko aisa Infrastructure bnana chahiye ki wo utne crowd ko sambhal sake.
Aur sab hi jante hain ki varanasi hindus ke liye ek religious place hai to sab jayenge hi wahan
@@Abhi10183there's a limit for development. For example, govt started building infrastructure in Himalayan region and we all know the consequences now - rapid flood, landslide, etc etc. So, yes, over tourism is a problem and even if govt starts creating more infrastructure (capacity building) then it also has detrimental effect in the long run. Sustainable development is the key and most importantly people should realise this too.
I agree with u . right now I m live in Varanasi &too much crowd here
same in rishikesh
now I realize why Jharkhand government is not very pro tourism despite of such a huge tourism potential of the state. More tourism also leads to building of more hotel and resorts and everyone wants the nature's view due to which many forests and lakes a destroyed. My mother told that when she was young, the end of jhumri taliya from one side dint used to visible but now they have filled it so much that ends are clearly visible
Even temprature has raised a lot. Earlier ppl dint needed fan Even in summers but now summers are extreme and rain fall had decreased. Tourism is obviously not responsible for climate change but increase in tourism can Make it worst
This is what i need the knowledge about. A perfect source for a tourism student, even our syllabus can't teach.
correct
Over tourism in Tamilnadu , places like Kodaikanal and Ooty are overcrowded during weekends and festival holidays. No plan to control traffic jam. Local bodies and State Govt Tourism Department should take immediate steps to regulate the same. Very good video. Excellent. Presentation by Palki Sharma

There should be similar restrictions in India especially inside religious places. Anybody who disrespect should be charged heavily and also banning should also be an option.

Let's not make things too comfortable then .
😅😂😅, world is way better spacious than congested India.
In India, at some of the most sacred Hindu and Jain sites like Ranakpur you cannot even pray because its flooded with European tourists taking photos and talking loudly.
😢
No need to blame european tourists our own people are also very useless in preserving religious sites
Well, Ranakpur is one of the finest made temples ever you should expect goras to come there
And what about so many Indian tourists flooding to different cities and churches in Europe? I think you will find insensitive tourists from all countries including our own.
Overtourism isn't the real reason why joshimath is breaking down it's the rampant infrastructure projects built there by the govt of India and the state , without taking environment into consideration
Same situation happened in Vizag. So 6years ago we discovered a place in Vizag except local fishermen no one knows that place. So when we got lost in around Pudimadaka area some local fishermen were curious about our bikes and stopped us to take some pics so then we asked if they know any place around and we found a breathtaking scenic place with 2 sided sea and 1 side back waters river and to go on top we have to trek for 1-2 kms. And we posted it in our Instagram and then all our GITAM University students started flooding there and it’s totally destroyed now. Lesson if you like something don’t share keep it to yourself to enjoy again.
All destruction happens due to access to social media, in the name name of hidden gem people posted on social media especially Instagram which then led to uncontrollable people rushing for exploration. This has damaged not only these places but destroyed the tour experience.
Living on the French Riviera, we see this too. Sometimes two of the biggest cruise ship are staying here for the day(s). Hoards of tourists are flooding the streets and beaches without bringing anything to the local people except nuisance. Due to the "all inclusive" package, those people do not spend a dime on anything outside their travel arrangements but have no shame to touch everything from fruits on the markets to sightseeing items they never buy at the end ... Shuttle boats run at a 10 min rhythm to transport the tourists back and forth all day. People litter the town, block the roads and have no respect for either culture or rules. All whilst the cruise ships constantly blast a toxix steam into the air which we later find in our home as a smear on our furnitures … Just imaginge how our health is secretly infected by this. In summer we have half naked men and women walking through the center of town or trying to enter the restaurants. I could rumble on with countless examples ….
Overtourism can be minimized by: (1) eliminating marketing efforts by country/city; (2) imposing posted strict rules and regulations for cultural respect with consequences to violators, i e. Singapore lashing for gum user.
how about banning airbnb and all short term rentals; when hotels were the only option things were much better regulated and numbers were lower because one had to wait their turn
Simply put up a limit over how many tourists should visit per year or month and allow few people. But that won't happen afterall for government Tourism money is more important than maintaining environment and cultural heritage 🤡
@@connieb.6061 I personally don't support it due to squatting consequences but, I don't want to interfere with Others' $$. However, less ads should work. Local Business' CAN express concern with their politicians....I hope they listen.

Actually there are so many underrated places in the World which see very less tourism but most people tend to visit only viral or popular places. We should remember the earth is very big.
Exactly. Like Europe is always getting tourists while you have a big country like Brazil, Australia, and many African countries that have little to no tourists. That's why I travel reverse. I always go to the unpopular place for vacation and it's working out for me. I will travel to popular places only after peak seasons.

Amazing content and analysis. Sometimes I find your commentary too cynical but this one I could relate to a lot. I don't want to sound preachy but I turned from being a 'traveler explorer trekker' to 'rather stay at home and explore city' person over the years and over tourism is the reason. The mad rush for bucket lists and social media peer pressure is driving the aspiring rich crazy. We can't say for the world, I have the least respect for European countries as they are built on exploitation but for Bharat, it is high time we increase the ticket price for prized heritage sites. Our temples, ASI marked sites need to be preserved at all costs, they are not Insta or selfie spots.
I just completed my third trip to Spain since 2021, and here is what I learned:
1) Don't bother with Barcelona, it is beautiful, but a mad crush of tourists with sky-high costs. Go to Zaragoza instead.
2) Visit Spain's "empty regions" (empty is the term used here because most of these states are sparsely populated): Castilla y Leon, Extremadura, Aragon.
3) Do Madrid, but see less popular neighborhoods and sights, and enjoy the many lovely parks.
4) Pre book visits to major sights and book your hotels/trains as early as possible.
5) Escape the heat and visit the north, particularly Galicia.
Do you realize that your comment, although well-intentioned, will only contribute to “Overtourism”? The places you mentioned as ‘sparsely populated’ will also start getting crowded - Perils of social media! *Facepalm*
or just visit on off peak times
And people will start rushing to those places you mentioned, they'll post online others will see it and the cycle begins
While I agree that there are many interesting places to visit in Spain, ignoring Barcelona is simply bonkers. Try climbing the mountain up to Tibidabo or relaxing in one of the quieter parks-there is always somewhere quiet in any city, you just have to look beyond the tourist honeypots
just keep it to yourself, unless you want tourism to be promoted at these places.
I'd like to know how Palki learned to write like this. Absolutely love her style.
I m French living in australia , I have been working in tourism for over 15 years. And I can only agree strongly with this video. Tourism doesn’t mean being irresponsible!
Same problem with Pondicherry. I can’t leave my house on the weekends. It’s a very very small city. Traffic is hell and people don’t follow the rules, dumping their rubbish in no garbage zone.
Completely agree, now a days, i dont feel like visiting any place because of overcrowded tourist places and unending traffic jams. The whole purpose of holiday , which is peace , is lost . In our religion, we often keep fasting of few days where we don't eat at all., we only drink water. Same way, i wish there should be tourism fasting where we take pledge to not travel more than once or twice a year .
Being one of the residents of the tourist area Kasol, I fully agree with the subject. We are fed up. Long traffic jams during our daily commute, requirement of air conditioning etc. are just beginning.
I trust Palki reporting. The true information.
I have lived this situation, to travel off-season is better for everyone, about 50% cheaper and for now, the only way to find one of those bed and breakfast rooms.
Travel changes people though, don’t stay home.
And her *ACCENT* is quite fantastic and Adorable... Always love to her u palki... Newsreaders like u are a treasure to us (audience) stay blessed ❤❤
Thanks for touching upon this important topic . The deluge of tourism is also an environment impact and cultural as well. In India too , many small towns are impacting adversely. Tourists need to be educated and the permits issued commensurate with the capacity.
Like Vrindavan nd Varanasi suffering from overtourism
Thanks for raising this issue! Eventhough tourism can bring in revenue to the country but protecting the treasures are more important. Overusage of anything will lead to destruction.
Salute to Palki Sharma to raise such a delicate subject as it concerns the wellbeing and independence of the locals of the tourist places. Their existence is in jeopardy because of extensive tourism
The most important point: Focus on enjoying the vacation for you and your loved ones instead of posting on social media
Just last year. I was travelling thorugh beautiful meadows of valley of flowers. It was heartbreaking to see people loitering around throwing away used up water bottles, plastic bags and some even went far as plucking away flowers.
Simple example, Nandi Hills near Bangalore, India. During weekends it will over crowded.
Tourism restrictions are required.
In pune, the crowds are crazy on weekends. You cannot even move in the forts😂

COVID PANDEMIC:
OPPORTUNITY FOR INDIA
- 10,000 companies set to move from China to India
- India is all set to replace China as the factory of the world
China is bound for disaster sooner or later and I feel sorry for the people there who live in a surveillance state with oppressive rules and zero free will. It’s like living in a golden cage. Better to be hungry than overfed inside a cage
This is bound to happen when
1) People have money in hand to spend on things over and above basic necessities and this is ever increasing
2) People have loads of time in this world as they have lot less to do at their home level
3) Social pressure, when they see people from their strata are visiting different places and they should not be taken otherwise
4) Ease of travel and modes available
Human has devastated the ecosystem form the day human came into existence and this will just get worst day by day. This is the harsh reality, even if majority disagrees
This is a very relevant and very irritating topic for the serious travelers like me. I am a photographer and I would like to share some of my experience. Love to hear from you all.
I was in a place to click some pics. There were a group of young girls. As a courtesy (which was a mistake from my part) allows them to click the shot, first. They took selfies by making different faces. Then they edited the pics on their mobile. Then they posted the pics and was waiting for the feedback. I had waited for next 20 minutes, then I had to tell them to leave the place, so that I can take some pics.
In another location it was still worse. I had seen some pics on net and want to take some pics from that location. When I went to that location, my guide informed me that that location was blocked by Government. Reason? Some tourists died while taking the selfie.
This is the effect of the emptiness inside us, both tourists and hosts think that they will get something extraordinary,,✨
this greed is never fulfilled💔
lockdown resulted in more insecurity.
In many parts of the world, including India the local infrastructures serving tourism are not updated though the local authorities have gained substantial commercial gain. The facilities are the same for decades.
Although I am generally biased against you ,I just loved your take on this issue of Tourism. My beautiful State of Goa is witnessing the downside of over tourism. Thanks for highlighting this issue.
My favorite is the rule against tourists with selfie sticks.
Excellent point!

I admire Palki Madam's presentation of the news.
I really enjoy the work of Ms. Sharma and all the team behind the scenes. The coverage of world issues and events is well written, balanced and clearly presented. This is among the best journalism I am seeing anywhere in the world. So sad what has happened to the quality and integrity of so-called news broadcasts being produced by the West.
The reason I Love Bhutan Tourism policy
Similarly Gokarna and surroundings in Karnataka, once frequented for it's his historical temples has slowly become plan B destination for Goa
The situation this video describes is exactly what I faced wherever I traveled in Europe. The locals did seem frustrated with tourists. The whole time I was wondering what we can do to make travel better. The tips provided in this video are a great starting point.
Appreciate madam for telling the truth and exposing the danger of over tourism. India is suffering from this malady which nobody dares to raise for obvious reasons. We have seen the impact of over tourism and the irresponsible govt promoting tourism as the major source of revenue and corruption in the name of tourism development by allowing unabated construction of resorts and motels in hill areas and obstruction of rain water pathways and drainage system. Himachal Pradesh, uttarakand and spiritual centres like kedarnath are destroyed beyond imagination. Because of the influx of tourist with different cultural differences and food habits it has affected the livelihood of locals and creating serious social problems like drug menace, immoral activities and prices of food and properties which locals can't afford. In Kerala many tourist destination like Thekkadi and munnar are converted into concrete jungles and food prices going over the roof. Local people should take initiative to stop tourism for next couple of years to restore eco system and stabilise the local economy
Those countries don't have great leader like Modi ji. Thanking policies of BJP, India not having problem with Chinese tourists, or Muslim tourists, or Britishers, Americans or west Europeans! Jai Hind!!
Many countries have the opposite problems, undertourism.
Tourism can help lift a region or country from poverty. 🙄
No, it can´t. Most "tourists2 are packaged in a bundle that arrives, looks, and leaves, without any benefit for locals, but the cost of trash disposal.

Yeah same for Uttarakhand. UK needs to impose some kind of regulatory management for these hills.
Yesterday I was in Hallstatt / Austria, visiting the archaeological excavations every year.
Hallstatt has ~700 inhabitants.
Hallstatt has ~700,000 tourists per year, ~500,000 of them coming from China!
In China, Hallstatt has been rebuilt for touristic reasons.
Some Chinese guests assume the inhabitants are actors paid by tourist organizations.
That's overtourism at its worst.
But you don't find many visitors in the museum with a lot of unique archaeological objects as the prehistoric early iron age in Central Europe (ca. 800BC to 450BC) is known as Hallstatt Culture.
And the visitors to the famous winged carved altarpiece are also relatively few.
This is one of the best analysis from Palki, I was critical of her on some of the topics but when story is good I will definitely appreciate.

Tourism should not be taken as an industry anymore and it should be discouraged. Tourism blogs and advertisements should not be promoted by the respective state government with immediate effect.
Tourism departments of the states should concentrate on the guests from the local population of the state only.

as I've always mentioned that over population must be stopped & curbed. We are sooo reluctant to accept a simple fact that we heading, actually running, towards our end; the more civilization(or urbanization) is taking over the more that end is becoming clearer. But people do always have a point to argue without any deep thinking of the consequences.
