- In this video I show you 3 of the exterior upgrades on my 13ft Scamp trailer. We start with upgrading the vent from a vintage Dometic Vent to a new Maxxfan Deluxe vent. Next we take a look at the external hatch which provides access to storage space I created by ripping out the AC unit. Finally, I show you the Thule Hideaway awning I installed to replace vintage Dometic Catalina awning.

I have a 16' scamp with many mods and added a very similar hatch right behind the tire. Since I had modified the interior a great deal there was a new twin bunk on each side. On this side I boxed in an enclosure for outside access with the hatch for entry. It is very handy for all of that stuff that you really don't want inside.
Love that new awning!! And the new storage space with its convenient access!! Great improvements, Shaun!!
Thanks Mom! It's really coming together
Looks great! Can't wait to see the interior upgrades!
Very soon!
That awning… awesome.
Amazing work as always. Love watching all your videos
@James Collins Thanks man! We gotta catch up soon!
Awesome job with the upgrades!
Thanks!
Nice dude love the upgrades. Giving me some ideas for my scamp as well.
Thanks man!
Love that new awning and you!!!
My girlfriend better not see this!
Love that awning!
Me too!
Nice work!
I really like that Thule awning. Wish I’d gotten it instead of the Fiama that came on our new Casita.
Happy Camping
Great video Shawn!
Thanks David!
I really appreciate how you cut to the chase. I don’t have to wade through a rambling story. Well done video (and improvements!)
Thank you! That’s helpful feedback for sure!
Nice upgrades!
Thanks!
Loved this Scampwhen I first saw it and loving it more with every additional video! Your attention to detail and quality Just makes me so stinking proud! Wanna see more pictures of Scamp adventures in Moab :-) with me in it!
Thanks pops! Yeah, we definitely need to get you out on a trip in it!
Great info 👍
Thanks!
Nice upgrades.
Thanks!
Love that bamboo trim flange
Bamboo is my favorite!
Hot diggity dog, you are so impressive. That awning is so sick!
It’s a huge upgrade for sure!
Now you gotta get a hot tub for your new pattio 😅
I bought a Thule as well. In the middle of painting the Scamp I have, so it has not been installed yet. but I am glad someone else has put a thule on their Scamp . it can be done =D
Absolutely! Thule is the way to go in my opinion.
@@shaunwilkens where does the crank and tension bar thing store at. Separate of the awning...in your vehicle or in the Scamp I’m guessing ? Also do you ever get concerned of the fiberglass cracking at the brackets for the awning?
Such an adventure vehicle modifying boss! Let us know when you start your Master Class of adventure buildouts.
Haha! Thanks dude. You and Betsy sent me down this path!
Bravo
Love the it
Dang, you are very handy!
Thanks 🙏🏻
The awning is great. I just got a 2008 13’ . I heard the door will open going down the road, is this so and what can be too fix this? Thank you for your videos.
I had an issue with it the door opening too. Making sure it locked worked for me but every fire seems to be different
Take my money! 💰
Haha! Exactly
Gonna do anything with the escape hatch? I'm having trouble finding a vent that will fit to replace it
I made a video where I replaced it with a skylight I imported from China
@@shaunwilkens watching now. Thanks!
How did you secure the brackets to the top of the Scamp?
I riveted a few of them and used sikaflex on some of them. I cover it in my electrical video.
Hey what’s the stuff you put on top to seal the max fan
Sorry for the late response. It’s called self leveling lap sealant
Hello Shaun, I hope you are well. Do you happen to have the part numbers of the awning accessories? I would like to accessorize the awning and it did not come with these items. There are a lot of options on the Thule website and I do not have the actual awning part number to match. I am not sure how to contact you directly. I look forward to hearing from you. Regards, TJ
Hey TJ! These are the model numbers: 306515, 306454, 307399, 307285
You planning on replacing the electric hookup? That pull-out cord is a PIA.
@Raven’s RV Haven Yes, definitely. What’s a PIA?
@@shaunwilkens I figure on changing my shore power connection too. I don’t know why they set it up that way. PIA = Pain In The Asset. 🙃
Which sikaflex do you use, 221 or 227?
I used 221
how will you cool the scamp? Is the fan enough?
The fan helps but fortunately most days where I live in the Pacific Northwest aren’t too hot
@@shaunwilkens Cool. :) It's super humid and hot where I am in the summer so the fan wouldn't work. I'm glad it works for your local temps. If you camp in more humid/hot areas--you'll have to rig more cooling though.
Can you link information about the Thule awning?
Sure! www.amazon.com/dp/B07BFJ19VB/ref=cm_sw_r_as_gl_api_gl_i_39S7XYQG2RACBQC66ZQC?linkCode=ml2&tag=shaunwilkens-20
Going camping, who needs A/C, right? Something that small NEEDS storage! And you don't want to camp next to the circus until you get that hatch fitted with a lock! 😛
Haha, you get it!
Why take the AC out, you'll be sorry.
