I don't understand how non-refundable tickets are even legal, if you have to cancel for unforseen circumstances, the airlines get to pocket your money AND re-sell your seat/s.
Thank you for posting this. I had the exact same situation. It also depends on who you get on the phone. Yesterday I got someone with a baby crying in the background and she basically told me I could get on a flight with COVID. Watched this, and tried again today and got a less stressed/nicer person. First she said I couldn't get anything for a "saver" fare but when I mentioned I have COVID and asked whether I should go ahead and try to get on the plane and maybe get others sick she put me on hold and talked to her supervisor. Should be getting credit to my wallet for a future flight.
You are NOT being dishonest when you do this. These airlines are ALL of them crocks. Remember even the ones that come out as the "best" of the year in this or that or any other metrics, they are ALL crocks and from the moment you are doing the reservation in their website they use countless tricks to get the most of the money out of you (against your convenience sometimes not even adding value to your experience). When you have to wait almost 1 hour for a rep. they're being not good to you . When the rep that responds your call can barely speak English and you can't hear them good (for being cheap overseas labor) they're not being honest with you. Do this an more in order to get your money back with all, all the airlines
Im cancelling my flight to Germany in November. Purchased a non refundable ticket round trip plus seat reservation cost me $1000. I went to the app to cancel and they will only refund me $155. Now im pondering if i should just go.

I’m asking because I know someone who traveled internationally and because of a traffic construction project near the airport missed his flight and was forced to buy a full fare ticket for his return flight. The fare was the same. Not only was there traffic congestion affecting airport traffic, the employees would not assist with check in since the kiosks did not work delaying a possibility of making the scheduled flight. The employee said use the ‘app’ or website to make changes, which then forced to purchase a full fare ticket. So the question is, if a certain type of occurrence that is affecting vehicle traffic in and out of the airport and the airline serving that airport doesn’t inform you, shouldn’t the airline be held responsible for not letting passengers know?
Airlines right now have zero customer service. They really don’t care about customers at all. The best thing to do is to file a claim for a refund online and make your best case there. Best of luck!

Any advice on scumbag airlines like CopaAir that refuses to give any refunds? They told me the only way to get a refund when I asked about it after initially booking a flight to Colombia is to show documentation that I have covid. Do you recommend forging a doctors note?

Even if you stay in the airport?
you don’t need a visa if you stay in airport for layover hours because it is not your final destination.
