- Tips for what to do when your flight is delayed or cancelled. The reason for the delay matters. It the delay is the airline’s fault you will be entitled to lots of assistance from the airline. I had a flight from Miami to Long Beach, CA via Houston Hobby on SW. My flight was experiencing a delay and I worked with the helpful agent to get my connections rebooked in Hobby as I was going to miss the last connecting flight to Long Beach. I told the agent that I can do LAX, SNA or Burbank and he was able to reroute me. It was a hassle but kept calm. I ended up getting home only 4 hours later vs being stranded in Hobby and ended up getting a voucher from SWA. I agree about being calm and respectful when dealing with the agents as a bit of honey goes further than vinegar.

The last three times I visited Vegas (LAS to SFO, LAS to SJC, and SMF to LAS), I experienced flight delays. Looking back, I should have been grateful that they were all nonstop flights rather than be angry and pouty.

49:00 travel insurance is good for high risk travelers that usually are sick or the most expensive option cancel for any reason.
I use Fight Aware all the time
Went to Punta Cana in January. The travel agent booked our flight from Detroit to Washington DC then to Punta Cana. The airline changed our layover flight to Chicago instead of DC. With a 38 min window to get from one flight to the next. Chicago in the winter is terrible for flying which is why our agent booked through DC originally. Fast forward to our flight day and the weather was fantastic! We are waiting to board and they start delaying due to mechanical issues. Because that window was so tight in Chicago they wound up canceling our flight and we had to take a later flight (6 hours later) which routed us through Newark which meant a layover over night there and put us a day behind. That domino affect caused a huge headache with the resort reservation the next day. Thankfully the airline gave us a bunch of food vouchers for lunch, dinner and breakfast the next day PLUS they paid for our hotel for the night and let us choose which hotel we wanted.
2022 southwest canceled, our friend missed his cruise! :(
In the US you have many options if your flight is delayed or canceled, In Canada, we have limited options as we don't have many airports to choose from.

All of these informational videos that you create always ease my nerves. Thank you for being so clear. However, one thing that makes me nervous, is international flights.
Here’s an example:
-I’m going to Bangkok in February.
- I’m flying with Korean Air
- 1st flight is around 14-16 hours.
- 2.5 hour layover in Korea
- 2nd flight from korea to bangkok
If that FIRST flight gets delayed by 2 hours due to weather issues…
What will I do?? I will definitely miss that connection. There’s absolutely no way that I can pay for another ticket on the spot like that. If the delay/cancellation is weather related, and they can’t offer compensation, will I just be trapped in a Korean airport with no way to get to my destination, and/or no way to get home? As you can tell, I’m an over thinker 😂

There are plenty of flights from Korea to Bangkok. So if you misconnect they either put you on another carrier, or put you out the next day. If it's the next day, then you just enter Korea for the night. Korea has visa free entry for many other countries
New regulations allow for more compensation from airlines now!

had this happen to me recently. Whilst the speed at which they arranged an alternative routing for me, there is sometimes an overreliance on technology to solve such issues. The routing thrown up by their AI systems is not always the most distance effective, environmentally friendly or logical route chosen. Human involvement is still needed to answer questions from travellers and sort alternative routing...

Hey Chris, wanted to note about your shift between United to Eva because of the missed connection, they are both on the same alliance so there is a bit more flexibility between them. Not always the case but something that alliance airlines can do
Yeah. Airlines tend to put you on the same alliance first. But I've been on American and had them put me on Southwest Airlines. So its not always the case
