      The chase Sapphire card and both amex cards have an annual fee. Unless you're spending tens of thousands on flights, restaurants, and other shit you do not need these cards and will lose money in fees.

      Credit only needs to be established if your too broke to afford what you want/need. Cash is King
      It almost seems forced on everyone when something as essential as housing is to expensive to outright buy in cash and you also need it, even to rent.
      Credit is also 1 piece of a 3 piece puzzle that seems to work better with all 3 pieces at the same time because good Credit is useless without a consistent income and income is useless without good Credit (unless you get lucky) and also having money set aside for down-payments which is also useless if you don't have good credit or consistent income when you can't save enough to outright buy what your saving for.
      A system I'm sure alot of people struggle to establish when saving money while keeping up with your own personal expenses is already a challenge and now maintaining a healthy relationship with your credit which will always be there to temp you to spend what you have available on life emergencies putting you into debt that you will have to now make monthly payments on. further making establishing good credit not only harder to achieve but maintaining it even harder
      I would avoid any cards with annual fees and that have to be used on/at specific things/locations because if you max them out you don't want to have to worry about another fee on top of your minimum payments every month or where your allowed to spend the available balance once your payment has been made I prefer credit card that are accepted mostly everywhere
      Also I would try and start as early as possible because in some cases it can take at least 6 months to a year to even get a score from your first line of credit which can make it harder to get housing until you get your score
      I remember being turned down for housing because even if you feel that you make enough to cover all the bills and had enough upfront to cover like 4-5 months in advance you could get turned down because of no or bad credit

    Best advice I ever got was “Use a credit card like it’s your debit card”. I.e. don’t spend more than you would without the credit. Start building credit young, set up auto payments for the full statement balance, take advantage of cash back bonus opportunities.

    •  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      And also, 2 credit cards are okay, debit cards won‘t affect your score, but more credit cards can actually worsen your score.

    • @claystar9valor
      @claystar9valor ปีที่แล้ว +13

      @ There is a sweet spot for open lines of credit. I’ve heard lenders like to see that a person can juggle multiple lines at once without missing a payment when you apply for a loan. For reference, I was approved for my mortgage with 2 credit cards and a car loan. No missed payments, but my credit history was relatively short at 4 years at the time.

    • @edwincalvo9337
      @edwincalvo9337 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      You can have as many CCs as you'd like, it's the carrying of debt that's the issue and also paying them down to zero isnt a good idea, don't forget 30% of your credit is amounts owed, I'd suggest pay down to 3% or so. Also, let's not forget the difference between due date vs statement day, some peepz may need to look it up when paying down certain debts.

    • @walkermorales337
      @walkermorales337 ปีที่แล้ว +13

    • @tylersoexclusive713

      @@Yeesack 95% of people have very poor discipline and impulse control. Having a credit card makes people feel like they have more money than they do. I know some people that have gotten a card and had it maxed out in a month. Yes there are smart ways to use it but most people will overspend it to the point where it’s not beneficial anymore and it’s negatively impacting them. And the rewards really aren’t great. I used chase freedom for everything, including paying my bills and paid it all off every couple weeks. Every month I would get like $30 back. Sure, $30 is $30 but it’s really nothing to even go out of your way for.

    As someone who has these cards: keep in mind that you actually still have to spend money to earn the rewards. As someone who's decently frugal and only travels once a year... they're just ok lol. If you spend all your money every month and actually travel often: this is amazing. If you're an average Joe or lower-middle class, it's not that big of a deal having them.
    Paraphrasing what someone else said in another comment, people think they're gonna get rich off credit cards when the reality is that you get an economy airline ticket after spending $60k on the card. It's just another one of those things that's better if you're rich lol. Just stick to the $0 annual fee credit cards that give you 1.5-5% back. No need to get these extravagant travel cards.
    EDIT: To those who keep commenting saying I'm wrong, keep in mind that I'm speaking for the mass majority of people who cannot handle credit. I'm sitting on $4,000 of un-used cashback, points, and sign-up bonuses over the course of 7 years. What's $4,000? Maybe 4 round-trip tickets. Nothing special.

      40% of American family travels once a year for vacation. Meaning 40% of Americans should they meet the income requirement for the Amex platinum, could be easily enjoying free high end lounge access and other travel perks for free with the Amex platinum.
      For example what I do is:
      I use my Amex Cobalt to rack up something like 100k Amex reward points a year.
      Then I redeem my points for a flight from west coast Canada down to LA business class. (The ticket only ends up costing me like 5$)
      Then I use Amex Platinum to book my hotel, and my flight back.
      Amex platinum will reimburse me with 400$ total from hotel and flight ticket cost.
      And I usually get around LA in an Uber. So Amex will also reimburse me with another 200$ essentially making the card free to get.
      All this is essentially done for free. I should note I’m a secondary user for platinum. I don’t have my own yet. But I’ve been doing this for a few years now on a pretty low 120k/yr income. You don’t need to move lotta money to take advantage of these cards 💀

    You should just go all in on a Chase Trifecta, or an Amex Trifecta instead of getting 4 cards across two different systems. You could also go with a two-card setup with Capital One Venture X and the Savor or Savor One, and keep your points in that system. Pooling points into one system, as opposed to two, is almost always going to be a better idea unless you want to go full min-max and get like 10 different cards.

You can make the money back from that annual fee, but if you're the average person, you probably won't get near getting back that value of the fee. You probably won't spend enough to really make back that fee either.
    With a really well paying job and good base to already stand on, then this is the dream. Works better than most/any other (travel) setups. But it's just not feasible for the average person. Cashback setups till you can get setup (financially well enough), then go for this later on in life (assuming you've moved up/forward).

      On the higher end of 3% cashback that's spending like 33k. The lower end of 1.5% would make it 66k. You're spending more in a year than people earn to cover their basic expenses. I'm an advocate of credit cards myself, but at the end of the day the earnings are negligible unless you're wealthy enough to actually spend the money. And if you're wealthy enough to afford to spend $33k (again, some people entire salary), then what difference would $1k make? Credit cards are good for the wealthy. For everyone else, it's just a very big opportunity to screw yourself over with debt. High risk low reward for most. Again, I have these same credit cards mentioned in the video, but I've learned quickly that I'm not wealthy enough to even benefit from them the way that they're meant to be benefitted from. Unless you travel an absolute ton don't mess with the Amex cards, their annual fees are anywhere from $200 - $700 a year. I have a Chase Freedom Unlimited and a Chase Freedom Flex and I feel like that's an awesome combo to have. The Flex is an extremely new card from Chase so most people don't mention it or know about it but as far a rewards and benefits go it's the best daily driver card I've used in recent years.

    Does no one else see the issue of chase preferred vs gold card they both get the majority of points from the same items so this would cause an issue I feel like it needs a larger breakdown also like the annual fee. Personally I have both but originally for the sign up bonus because they were really high and I have someone using the gold card with all their purchases on it. But otherwise these are better for sign up bonuses they’re almost copies of one another and while you can combine two chase cards together Amex and chase are competitors so o you have half your points in Amex and half in chase you can’t combine for your trip but you can use them separately on your trip. Both really great cards though just think it’s not as simple or accurate what was said

    Keep in mind that you still have to spend money to earn any of these rewards. If anything have 3 credit cards open is is helping raise your credit score. You don't even need to use them for it to raise your credit score, actually using a smaller amount of your available credit helps. If you look at your available credit like a percentage. Let's say $1000 and you currently have spent $500 on your card. Then you're using 50% of your credit. You want to keep that percentage low and make your payments on time. I sometimes pay my credit card off early if I use a larger amount of my balance then normal.

    I kinda hate my Amex card. I do travel a fair amount, but I don't see the value I'm getting from it. It's usually WAY cheaper to make bookings myself on a annually-free 2% cash back card. I've had mixed experiences with their customer service too. I made a $300 fuel purchase that they wouldn't honor points on because it wasn't "on their list of approved fuel stations".

    These cards are travel cards meant for traveling. Everyday cards usually have low/no annual fees. The AMEX cards self promote through prestige. There's not much advertising for AMEX for the reason that, they aren't marketed to everyone. They are for a specific demographic looking for what AMEX offers. Amex is meant to be used moving around hence no exchange fees for foreign currency. Hotel credits airline credits large points on food and travel.
