Mordin's loyalty mission is and will forever be one of my favorites. I feel its in those conversations you finally are able to make Mordin see the mistakes he made, to struggle with them, and come to grips with what he needed to do in ME3. Seeing his spiritual side touched me, and i'll never forget it :)
He was already struggling with it, and well, he probably thought of everything Shepard said a million time. Tbh, I thought Shepard was acting like a dick in that mission, but well, I don't really consider using the genophage a mistake, or updating it a mistake, I kinda look at Mordin like a poor guys who ended up with the dirty job. I totally agree that it's good, it's so interesting, just look at how we have different outlooks on it. My favorite mission is the one with legion, with the choice of killing or brainwashing the Geth, though.
I was going to sabatouge the cure if it wasn't for the fact that he went back on his mistake and the pure silence it gave me an opertunity to shoot him...but, i let him go.
I hated to see Mordin go but his character arc was perfect - he went from working on/justifying the creation of the genophage virus, to giving his life to undo what he'd done to save the krogan. He started as a pawn in the game and went out as a hero. I wasn't mad about his death because it worked so well in the story, but I still missed him.

This is the moment Mordin realized that, if he survived the Omega 4 relay, he would have to fix the Genophage himself and this time he would do it right. No more suffering, no more unethical experiments, the Krogan must be healed and it must be done without any more suffering.
One of the best characters in gaming, in my book. For all intents and purposes he was the villain of his own story, but his character growth is remarkable and he does what all deep characters in a story like this should do; asks a moral question. Some in ME are straightforward, like Legion: Can a collective of AIs ever be alive? With Mordin, the question is one of the oldest in philosophy: Should extreme circumstances justify any means? Almost all moral principles break down in a situation where two people have the desire and power to kill each other and will not back down for the sake of their own survival. Should anything be permitted in situations like those, even the most horrible crimes? What the Salarians did to the Krogan definitely seems less barbaric than what the fate the Krogan had planned for everyone else if they won their war. Does that justify it? I don't think there is an answer. Mordin's writing covers all the bases of things that people do to justify such actions to themselves; 'the big picture', drawing arbitrary red lines for themselves 'no species capable of calculus' etc etc. Only to be hit by his student turning those same justifications around on him.
Great post. One of the main points of this trilogy is that things often aren't as black and white as we make them out to be. This game covers so many issues that are relevant to real life.
I think Mordin's struggle with the morality of his actions, him finally coming to a resolution for it, and him acting so decisively for that resolution, is probably why he is (along with Garrus) my favorite male character of the entire series.
Personally, this is why Mordin's loyalty mission is the best. While it's easy on gameplay terms, storywise, it's one of the most divisive and most emotionally engaging because it basically forces you to confront your existent morals and standards.
I like small detail with his voice and movement when modin defending his work on the genohage. Alway had a reason for it (Not in a know it all way). That he thought and rationalize all the outcome even if it was ill morale. Voice show that he didn't take pride in his work but saw it a necessary evil. Love modin. When trying to get the Dallatress' support and letting Mordin know and you try to talk him out of the cure, Mordin has a simple line, but one with a lot of impact that I ended up letting him cure them. "I MADE A MISTAKE!" This game had a lot of lines that really had emotional weight behind them. That is one of the major ones.
This is the most unique antihero ever created. Obviously he turned hero in the end, and he was more hero than anything the whole way through but seeing him slowly realize his mistake working on the genophage was so amazing. Mass effect 3 gets way too much hate but it's maybe 70% as good as ME2 because it actually followed up to pretty much every character arc, and this was the saddest one IMO
It's a pretty awesome journey that Mordin goes through from being an apologist for the genophage and someone who actively worked to improve it to someone who recognized that the Krogan deserved a second chance, and was the one who developed the cure for it.
Mordin remains one of the most fascinating characters in the Sci-Fi genre. A true renaissance man; brilliant, creative, intelligent, humble, but morally imperfect. Presents a moral dilemma with outstanding outlook and pressing against his assertions doesn't feel like an antagonization, but a challenging of both his and your own moral boundaries. Sure, he perfected a sterility weapon and reduced an entire sapient species' population growth to a standstill, potentially dooming them, but he also prevented what was at the time one of the most dangerous sapient species in the galaxy from taking over. He'll claim every time that he doesn't regret his work, but there's always that slight hint of guilt somewhere, waiting to reveal itself, especially as you constantly find limits to what even he's willing to do for the sake of his work.
The way the ME series was able to constantly introduce new and interesting characters then develop to the point that you actually cared about their story arcs through multiple games is nothing short of amazing. Especially when you consider the massive character roster and the level of technology they had to work with at the time
Talking with Mordin is like exploring the 2 sides of a coin. It puts you into a perspective, the consequences of your decisions and overall just the philosophy of the value of life. It just offers wisdom, and it is glorious.

Doctor Solus. Former STG operative. Modifier of the genophage. The curer of the genophage. Savior of the krogan race. We were in the presence of a legend.
Honestly ,this is probably one of the best stories and redemption arcs a character in a game can ask for. In ME2, while he does show signs of guilt over the modified genophage ,he is still 100% able to justify it without missing a beat when and after you meet him. I think that his loyalty mission is the start of his path towards redemption since the entire mission hits him with this problem over and over again and really makes him question whether what he did really was the right thing to do. Also he was kinda weird and quirky a good portion of the time so we had no idea what kind of person he really was deep inside or could be later on. In ME3, he is not only fully ready to cure the genophage and atone for his sins ,but is also ready to ensure it happens no matter the cost. The most important part of this story is once he gets at the Shroud during the mission on Tuchanka , where he soon realises that he has to make a final chance due to the current circumstances: - he takes the elevator up and cures the genophage, but he is not coming out of there alive - he walks away and dooms the entire krogan race forever Even though he knows that he won't live to tell about it and that he might never be forgiven by the krogan, he still takes the elevator up and fixes the one thing that had been haunting him continously for so much time (most likely knowing that he will never get rid of the guilt any another way). In the end, he dies happy since he not only saved an entire race from extinction (a race which he had no obligation to save or like),but he is also finally able to let go of the guilt and bad memories and finally be free due to fixing his biggest mistake, even if it's only for a few seconds before the inevitable happens.

47:15 oh yeah I forgot this was the part with Mordin I died the most
The Mass Effect 1 Track at the end makes it marvelous
To the Greatest Scientist Salarian!
*Raises cup in the air*
Cheers
Seeing Mordin go out shattered me but I understand why it had to be him: someone else could have gotten it wrong. 😥
Tuchanka's part sounds like a trance, so calming with hes voice and he's music theme....
There's no pep talk, like a military pep talk
the awkard pause when he sings for the first time... love it. may he rest in peace
I. Will. Never forget Mordin he is and always will be one of the people with the best written stories I’ve ever seen. ❤️
Get doctorate, have a real conversation.
I would've liked to see Bioware complete Mordin vs Grunt confrontation in ME2. That would've been interesting to say the least.
42:38 something about his rant here is very interesting to me.
He probably hates the synthesis ending
I’ll miss ya Mordin. He was an incredible friend and ally.
25:12 "farming equipment..."
Geralt: Damn..
33:34 “Not some Quarian with a tummy ache.” Tali: “Hey”
"get doctorate, have a *real* conversation" is probably one of my favourite lines
Mordin Solus, the very model of a modern major general. RIP you beautiful bastard.
He was a awesome character. Ah, his Gilbert and Sulivan was hillarious. A true mad scientist
Mordin, Tali, Wrex, and Grunt are my favorite characters in ME
It's probably due to being a unique model, but still, I feel like Mordin's head is a little bigger than the usual ones we see on other NPCs.
Mordin is at the top of my favorite characters list for sure, right there with garrus
No matter the choice the ending hurts everytime
27:42 for some reason hits me in the feels, it's so unexpected to me
I love it goes to, “That research was built on several deaths, it should be destroyed.” And then “It could be used to cure the Genophage, you should save it.”
When they were talking about that virus mutating, scary stuff
Jesus, legion and mordin made peace on their respective planets, I just wish they were there to see it till the end, they deserved it...
See, it's characters like this, that made the trilogy a hit.
This is what Andromeda forgot to put in.
Mordin's singing part ALWAYS mayes me laugh at the end when the games does nothing until he does his awkward post singing cough
6:59 Mortin - What in the terminus space fuck is that
One of the best characters in Video Games history!
Conversations with Mordin are the best !.
I wish Thane went out as awesomely as Mordin did.
