    As an austrian that wrote a research paper on Austrofascism, I have a few thoughts.
    00:47 - no, Austrians did not want an Anschluss. They did after the Great Depression, but not in the early years of the First Republic.
    01:23 - the Christian Social party did not use the Kruckenkreuz until the VF was established.
    02:21 - Italian fascism was the prime influence on Austrofascism. If you don't believe me, look at the letters between Dollfuß and Mussolini. It's straight up in black on white, you can find them in the Austrian National Archives.
    03:51 - I don't know what you're smoking but Germany would not have invaded Austria, especially as Austria was being guaranteed by the Italians (and also the Hungarians, which you did not mention once).
    04:45 - 'the Allies would go to war with Germany' complete bollocks. Offensive war on the side on the Allies would have been impossible.
    05:15 - in what world does Austria even want Bavaria? That has literally never been a movement, lmao.
    05:38 - "Restore their empire" are you willfully ignoring any actual historical facts by this point?
    Anything after the invasion of Austria by Germany, this video is extreme fiction and disregards literally anything historical.

      Hello, I love Austrian culture, art, history, music and civilization🙂
      As Italian, I would like to know what you Austrians think of us Italians😅
      I'm always worried that you Austrians also today think we are responsible for the end of your Empire in 1918...It wasn't just only our responsibility, it wasn't what we wanted anyway. Or that you make South Tyrol the decisive issue in relations between our countries (South Tyrol enjoys such autonomy that it is almost an independent state).
      My dream is to refound the Austro-Hungarian Empire (which I consider the most beautiful and romantic, after that of ancient Rome), but this time including all of Italy as well, not just the northern regions and, of course, with same rights and duties for all the peoples (on the other hand I think we should have given up Czechoslovakia and some regions like Galicia etc.). Maybe the most favorable period was exactly between 1932-'36: years in which we tried to create new, positive relations between our countries. Would it have been possible? How would Austrian public opinion have received this project? I don't know today how many possibilities there are but, of course, I would like. Where can I read your research paper on Austrofascism?🙂
      Ok, greetings from Italy🙂

    This scenario would require an absolutely massive Christian revival in the 20th century, a very great change in thought and focus within the state institutions of countries like Britain and the US and the non-relevance (or at the very least non-intervention) of the Soviet threat that most of these countries tended to prioritise.

    Fun fact: Before the British and US naval blockades in the Atlantic during the war. Italy and Germany were heavy Latin American trade partners and several leaders in the region admired Hitler, Mussolini and Hirohito in addition to similar parties in Brazil and Mexico. Figure this trade would increase alot more under a European Latin Bloc in addition to fascist parties in the region getting boosts from the bloc as well.

    Always an interesting take but predicting a second 30 Years War between Catholic and Protestant is a bit unlikely in that time frame. Latin fascism was more cordial to the church than the Hitlerian version, but even Franco kept the Church in a position to support him Politically in exchange for him supporting them religiously. Mussolini made peace with the church, but was an atheist personally and wanted a glorious empire. It’s hard to see these allegiances on either side being enough to hold an alliance together. Then again,
    Richelieu was on the wrong side back in the 30 year, so raison d’etat justifies a lot.

    I follow this up until after the defeat of Mustache Man. You just totally forgot the existence of Russia, Japan, and that slapping event more reparations on Germany while taking even more industry away from Germany just leads to that mess making the Great Depression even worse. Thus I'm not really sure you see this religious WWII, especially when Germany would be a crippled nation. Feels far more likely we eventually see the Soviet Union try and invade something that leads to Europe fighting them, or closest to your scenario a three way war in Europe. Then honestly you likely just have the US and Japan off doing their own Pacific war separate from Europe.

    I am pretty sure that France and UK won't intervene. But Italian army in 1936 was bigger than German, so they could deal alone with them. And after armistice some international Conference would be called, reparations on Germany would be installed and Nazis would be removed from power. But that's NOT all. Spain - civil war there would be won by communists. And communism would rise in Germany too, and in France ( communists IRL had big influence here). Communist block would be created, with USSR, Germany and France, Practically surrounding Poland. With such backing USSR won't shy to invade Baltics and Finland ( just like IRL).
    Next move would be invasion of Poland, but this time Poland would be made a dependent rump state, instead of division. Germany would just get Danzig and Western Prussia, while USSR would get lands lost in Soviet- Polish war. Would this spark WW2? No, I don't think UK alone would go to war, and USA was not ready yet and didn't have any wish to intervene European affairs.
    In the next move USSR would invade Manchuria ( with German support ) to stop Japan from conquering China...
    USA won't participate any conflict up to start of Cold War. Italy, Yugoslavia, Hungary, Czechoslovakia, Austria and Hungary would form anti-communist block. But due to common distrust they won't act without USA support.

    • @PatrickKniesler
      @PatrickKniesler ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I was also a little surprised communism didn't get a line in this one. Hope you don't mind some friendly discussion.
      Going chronologically:
      1. Germany had the communist parties very effectively quelled in 1933-34 with internment of political prisoners, so unless the German-speaking communists repopulated the country quickly after an Italian response, I do not think communism would be a serious concern in a post-Weimar Germany so soon. France, Britain, and the USA all had problems with communists. Churchill associated with Leninists, Paris was rife with Trotskyites, and FDR's administration was being filled with Stalinists. In the UK , the commies were hawks who spurred the country towards war with NAZI Germany. I am less aware of what the intent was for commies in France; I assume it was destabilization and political immobilization. In the USA, Stalinist commies were functionally isolationist but any others were mostly concerned with reacting to NAZI persecution and began a (mostly ineffectual) boycott of German products in 1933.
      2. The Austrian Anschluss occurred in 1938, two years after he start of the Spanish Civil War. If that timelines stayed the same, then Germany would probably have provided enough aid to ensure a Nationalist victory. However, Dolfuss was assassinated in 1934 so the invasion of Austria might have been moved up some yet Franco had his air bridge finished in July 1936. I think he'd still make it into the peninsula with the same loaned air power.
      3. Germany & USSR didn't invade Poland until 1939 IRL, so I doubt Hitler would move that event forward because he wouldn't have absorbed the Austrian divisions. If the invasion was placed later in the timeline, the Poland would probably get defense assistance from a Catholic ally. In your response I am not sure if you are separately taking the issue of Poland or consequentially to the elimination of the NAZI party.
      4. I think the Comintern would focus on preventing France from entering a Catholic league in the alt timeline. It is the biggest state they had a chance of working on, It prevents a contiguous continental league, and it is the most spiritually compromised with the many curses laid upon it during the previous revolutions. One might expect a French civil war, or a transition to more discreet influence as was seen IRL after WWII which leads to a slow burn/ slippery slope cascade. I was unsure if this was a characteristic of middle-Stalinism, but he adopted this tactic against the Catholic Church in the late 1920's by commanding that organized communists funnel communists and special bottom fun friends into seminaries. Would this focus on France detract from their influence in other areas? I do not know at the moment.
      I am not sure what would happen in the East.

    • @alexzero3736
      @alexzero3736 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PatrickKniesler yes, you're correct. I kinda forgotten that Anschluss happened in 1938, after quelling of German communists and the Spanish Civil War almost won by Franco... And German army already began reforming. This would make things more complicated, Italy would have troubles to actually invade Germany if they hold Austrian border. And it would require some action from France and UK, at least a diplomatic pressure to stop the war, like IRL UK would start Naval blockade, while France would start slow mobilization...From here history could go sideways, 1 Germany backs down, Hitler stays but pais reparations... 2 Germany uses stalemate with Italy as pause to enlarge their army, and invades France next year... Poland would be a wild card here, they could stab Germany in the back, also Molotov- Ribbentrop pact won't be signed in time.
      Anyway Italy would save it's empire and fascism would get a good reputation as legitimate ideology.
      In the future that would mean much smaller communist block in Europe. Yugoslavia would stay a monarchy, Czechoslovakia - democracy, Poland may go fascist with return of Pilsudski, Bulgaria and Romania- monarchy.

    I don’t think the allies would have won here. In Austria the Germans would face no resistance, Italys military is a scrapyard and France and Britian would persue the same tactic as in our timeline which would be waiting for Germany to attack their defensive position, since they themselves need a lot of time to mobilise. So despite the fact that Germany is missing a year of preparation Germany would still win. The allies couldn’t attack Germany first they were absolutely not prepared for that

  • @Chr0n0s38
    @Chr0n0s38 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    German National Socialism was Secularist, not Atheist. There's a huge difference. Odinism was fairly common amongst high ranking officials, as were various branches of Christianity. It's commonplace for neo-Nazis today to argue about whether Hitler was Pagan or Christian.

    • @stevencooper4422
      @stevencooper4422 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Exactly. Atheism implies it was ever at odds with the religious institutions within the nation. Secularism says "render unto Caesar that which is Caesars"

      Hitler was hostile to the Catholic Church while Dolfuss sought its support, so his point is well supported.

      @@graterdeddly9527 Opposing Catholicism is not the same thing as being Atheist. His point that the two disagreed on religion is well supported, but calling Germany an Atheist state is not supported at all. Hitler called himself Christian (but not Catholic). Compare that to the Soviet Union where all religion was banned (making it a truly Atheist state) and you should see my point. Confusing Atheist and Secularist is a huge mistake.

    • @graterdeddly9527
      @graterdeddly9527 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Chr0n0s38 No, Hitler used Christianity when it suited him, but he was an atheist much like Mussolini or Lenin. The Nazis were not as totalitarian as the Soviet Union in that particular since they didn’t attempt to stamp out religion and private property, but they did want to absorb control over all power centers into themselves eventually. Nazism didn’t have atheism as a tenet the way Marxism does, nor the destruction of the family, which is also in the communist manifesto. Certain Nazis also embraced a kind of Germanic paganism, some call it Odinism though that’s not quite accurate, but they did use those old Nordic aspects that one could call religious in a way, even if quite different than the Judeo-Christian belief system. The distinction in the video is important and perhaps the term "atheism" is a bit overstated but Hitler did have a distinct hostility to the Catholic Church and Christianity. This is a quote I find helpful from his "Table Talk" interviews, which are interesting background to what he thought:
      "Science cannot lie, for it's always striving, according to the momentary state of knowledge, to deduce what is true. When it makes a mistake, it does so in good faith. It's Christianity that's the liar. It's in perpetual conflict with itself."

      @Chr0n0s38 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@graterdeddly9527 I hate to break it to you, but Table Talk is very much an inaccurate source. It was written by rivals of Hitler. There's also no cross reference with any source. As I said before, a lot of neo-Nazis debate whether he was Christian or Pagan. Either way he was objectively not hostile towards all Christianity. Catholicism, sure, but not all Christianity. Look at his own works sometime

    Czechoslovakia would probably be against Austria, firstly because of history (anti-austrian sentiment was quite usual after WW1) and secondly because Austria was catholic and Czechoslovakia was quite anti-clerical (not so much as today, after communism but still much more then most european countries).

    Surprised the soviets where not mentioned at all, but then again Stalin at this point was a expansionist only against minor powers and moments of opportunity and negotiation being far more focused on internal development so it is very much possible he sits this war out, but takes advantage of the aftermath to push communist influence or enter last minute against the catholic league/union in order to seize polish lands.

      They would probably stay out of the war and then attack the winner when they are weak. Stalin was only dragged into WW2 because Germany had ideological reasons to attack the USSR. In this timeline he would probably have taken time to build his strength. Also, communism would probably be very attractive for people not accepting the new religious world order.

    There's no reason for a war with Yugoslavia, us Serbs were already planning on kicking the Croats and Slovenes out (removing their countries from Yugoslavia), so there would not be any war or "liberation", they would just be amputated from the rest of Yugoslavia. I believe Yugoslavia would also have great ties with the Catholic union after that amputation as a means of getting protection from the atheist Soviet Union.
