I don't normally comment on youtube videos, but had to for this one. Back in 2016 I was working night shift and one night on a day off, I was going down the rabbit hole of youtube videos and came across this one. Before this, I knew nothing about detecting. This video is what got me to buying a Garrett Ace 250 ( I swing the Equinox 800 now) and gave me the opportunity to search for treasure all over the U.S. and other countries. I just wanted to say thanks for the videos and showing how exciting this hobby can be!
Apparently in 1837 there was a banking system crisis. Many banks went under. The following from Wikipedia: "The Panic of 1837 was a financial crisis in the United States that touched off a major recession that lasted until the mid-1840s. Profits, prices and wages went down while unemployment went up. Pessimism abounded during the time. The panic had both domestic and foreign origins. Speculative lending practices in western states, a sharp decline in cotton prices, a collapsing land bubble, international specie flows, and restrictive lending policies in Great Britain were all to blame. On May 10, 1837, banks in New York City suspended specie payments, meaning that they would no longer redeem commercial paper in specie at full face value. Despite a brief recovery in 1838, the recession persisted for approximately seven years. Banks collapsed, businesses failed, prices declined, and thousands of workers lost their jobs." I suspect that what you found was either the private stash of an individual attempting to protect his money from going down with the local bank or a banker attempting to save some of a bank's specie (coin) from its depositors. Something must have happened to the person stowing the money otherwise he would have come back to retrieve it. Perhaps he was hung by his unhappy depositors. And it could have been the stash of a thief. All of this is speculation of course. Very interesting stuff.

It actually IS Brazilian. It was minted in Brazil. Something interesting about these "960 Reis" coins is that almost all of them were minted over 8 Reales coins. If you take a closer look at it you'll notice some traces of an 8 Reales mint in it.
I'm not so sure I'd put this on the Internet. Somehow, the existing landowner, the State tax board, the IRS, and John Smith's third ex wife will somehow try to claim all or part of it.
IIRC, this may have been the first Aquachigger video we watched. I we have been hooked ever since! Exciting find and the coins just kept coming, and coming, and ...

+Richard Baumeister - Perhaps. But the only people mourning my great-great grandfather's lost hoards of coins are his heirs. He died peacefully, secure in the knowledge that his jars of coins (mostly silver, but a few gold) were still safe where he'd buried them years before. Metal detecting wasn't a thing back in those days and his family left the farm after he died, so the coins were never found. My great-grandmother tried to find the location several decades later, but roads and landmarks had changed so much that she couldn't. So someone today has some farmland with some real treasure (probably) still buried on it. I kind of tried to find the old farm through public records a few years ago, but come to find out, it was rented and nobody now living knows who the landlord was. So much for that...guess I'll have to keep working for a living.
Or? Some Dumped them after Stealing them and was shot Dead..Took their location with him..Got Many Wedding bands and Engagement rings that way.. They also wooukld just throw them away getting Divorced or catching Her or Him with another Man/Woman or Both?

I'm so torn between being head over heals for this sweet, funny man (and totally believing him), and being suspicious of him. A couple of his vids seem a little click-bate-y (the one with title having to do with skull - in front seat of truck under water?!) and then this one just seems so...SO damned lucky and he seems really calm about it (while also clearly selling or plugging the metal detector...which in and of itself is fine of course). Please tell me this guy with his fun, charming personality, love of birds and turtles lol and delightful, curious self is legit. :)
I’ve watched this video so many times. It got me into the metal detecting hobby that I am so passionate about. I live between Boston and Plymouth Mass so we have a lot of history in the ground. Thank you for the inspiration to get into such a great hobby
+Zak Thayer He did say his youngest coin was 1837, all the coins were silver, many were half dollars. If you compare the face value (with inflation) from 1837 to 2016 the half dollars would be worth $ 11.93. I don't know anyone who would toss almost $12.00 in a wishing well today, I doubt anyone would have in 1837 either, that was a days pay for some people. The coins are worth much more then that though, some are in excellent condition. In the US, sliver coins were circulated until 1964. From 1965-1970 half dollars contained 40% silver. Special silver coins have been made for proof sets and silver dollars are made again for collector's. 1\2 cent, pennies, 2 cent pieces and nickels were not sliver. ( 1942- 45 nickels were 35%silver) Half dimes, 20 cent pieces were silver. 3 cent pieces were 75 and 90% silver.
That kind of silver back in 1837 could have purchased a lot of firearms. It could have been blood money. Think of the military activity going on back in that period. That kind of silver could have been some sort of pay off. And whoever lost that cache or hid that cache didn't live long enough to retrieve it...... The possibilities of what that much silver could have been intended for staggers the imagination. And remember he found more later.
+Desi J Richert - It could potentially be much more recently lost than one might think. Lots of people collect old coins for investment or bartering purposes, and some of them do still hide them out and about. Silver can corrode quickly depending on conditions. It's entirely possible that cache was lost within fairly recent memory.
Wow!! That’s the kind of find that everyone is looking for. It’s also the kind of find that keeps you looking. Congratulations! Can’t wait for your next adventure.

D.João VI or King John the sixth (call it whatever you want) was the Portuguese King in 1815, the date in the coin.

***** Hey Beau I'm about to purchase my first metal detector, I'd like to dig in parks and soil as well as sand, what would you suggest for me? $250-$300 budget, thanks so much and nice video, great finds!
***** Thank you, I will go with the 250 or 350
It actually IS Brazilian. It was minted in Brazil. Something interesting about these "960 Reis" coins is that almost all of them were minted over 8 Reales coins. If you take a closer look at it you'll notice some traces of an 8 Reales mint in it.
Beau Omlette indeed! what a guy
$1912 is the price of 6.5 pounds of silver. Excluding the actual value of the coins. Very sexy find.
liam cleary 1st 2nd sentences, makes sense. 3rd sentence, what???
yakityjak its a sexy sexy sexy find.
liam cleary lol
I love chiggs older videos you make my day much love to your and your wife Lindsay have a good night chig
I'm not so sure I'd put this on the Internet. Somehow, the existing landowner, the State tax board, the IRS, and John Smith's third ex wife will somehow try to claim all or part of it.
Larry Turner Well, if no one knows where he found them, that cuts out a lot of hands stretched out for their part, right?
shawnoandrew ol’ Larry is not too smart I take it. Lol
Bullion is not taxable.
What do you do with them? Keep some sell some? How do you think they ended up there?
Where is he Larry? Do you know? No one else does either..
I think you found your 401K plan right there....
Working my way from the beginning, this one is amazing!!! Well they all are but seriously WOW🤩🤩
This is the kind of thing I want to be doing!! I love coins, and I love treasure hunting! This video is so exciting :D
Years later I still visit this video to dream...
I come back to this video every once in a while. So awesome!
Great dig! Most should know that that is what many of us call a once in a lifetime find. But I hope you many more such treasures!
this is way better than national geographic
cyberghost74 but not as good as porn hub
What an awesome day that was! I had to come back and revisit this video. It's one of my favorite of many Chigg vid's.
I'm watching this in 2016 and he looks so different now
2019 now
2020. Corvid 19 sends it's regards. 3-11-20. Trump has just suspended travel from Europe.
2020 here, enjoy 2016, it seems bad to you now, but it's not as bad as 2020, I assure you.
2024 here, post covid but theres a stink in the air leading up to the election
I hope you realize how valuable all of those coins are...some of those are worth more than a thousand dollars a piece
j hi wow!
I dont understand how anyone could dislike this video !! To find all those coins is amazing wow ! Good job !! 😊
Beau, this video is no doubt the most inspirational video on detecting I have ever seen. Your dedication never disappoints. Happy hunting, 2018 bud.
2019. This is like my 8th time watching this video. Still can’t believe it. Crazy.
IIRC, this may have been the first Aquachigger video we watched. I we have been hooked ever since! Exciting find and the coins just kept coming, and coming, and ...
Close your eye's and listen to his voice...
Did you hear it?
Owen wilson.
Johnny Knoxville
Barack obama
he sounds like the guy from strange and wilderness

@@JohnChan lol his "UUUAW" sealed it to me, beau = owen wilson in his new acting role
Just insane. No matter how many times I watch this video, still amazes me.
Beau, I entertain myself while hubby watches ballgames, etc. watching metal detecting videos...I metal detect a bit. Can't swim and won't make it in a river...haaa but on land I love it. I really enjoy your videos and find myself watching them over and over. What do you think, or wish to think, the story is on all these coins? Do you think they were hidden to be later came back for, or simply lost during battle. So very interesting and I, too, think of the person/persons who had them and last held them. What a find. Congrats. Always waiting for a new vid to pop up of yours. God Bless
Holy Cow..!...those early American silver halves at that amount and condition is a coin collectors dream. They have to be pretty valuable and those big Spanish silvers just amazing.
Makes me want to run out and buy a metal detector
Haha same! I actually paused this vid and went on eBay to see how much they are haha
Bruce Bosco you can go rent one at the time out at any of these rental places that rent out lawn mowers and stuff like that let your fingers do the walking put up a deposit renter bring it back next day
Bruce Bosco if you find anything you don't already got your rent money back I called it a win-win
HEY!!!, Bruce!, Go buy a 300 dollar detector, its a lot of fun, but its surprisingly physical. beats the crap out of me !...I live in New Hampshire, and there wasnt a lot of history here, But Mass. on down, is loaded with history.
Pretty amazing composition of the treasure - such a variety of coins from different countries! And only silver. I'm impressed with your passion for the search, you're so happy! Good luck!
I think I have seen every worthwhile metal detecting session. This is by FAR my favorite! I know its exciting to see a gold coin dug here or there but nothing compares to this clip. It motivated me to get out there myself
It was a special time. thanks
The coin that claims to be Brazilian, I believe it is actually Portuguese. In 1815 Brazil was still a Portuguese colony, so I believe that the coins that circulated in the country were from Portugal.
verdade, tb pensei nisso, essas moedas circulavam em Portugal
ive now watched this maybe 5 times and these finds still turn me on lol..fantastic haul of some fantastic coins beau well done :)
all the best
john :)
Now that is what you call Treasure Hunting well done and glad it happened to you GL & HH
This video has seriously changed my life. There is treasure still out there!!!!! I dont know that you could ever top this one!!! Amazing!!
Ho hum Here I am, just pickin' up $2,000 coins one after another. ♪ It's a good day, yup! dum dee dum dum.... ♪Just paid for my metal detector 13 times ....♪ ♫ dum dee dum dum ♪ ♫
OMG. that's awesome. LOL.
those coins are worth a small fortune... I have some old 1800's halfs.. a lot of them go for 150 minimum even in shit shape
Thats stuff dreams are made of, wow unreal. I'd love to know how they got there. That would be a whole nother story wow. Congrats
the coins that have holes in them. in my history reading. pirates would weave them into there cloths on bracelets necklaces. etc. kinda of a way to show status, or symbolize how much "treasure" or bounty they had collected/stolen. interesting to see that. because its not seen to often.
They usually put holes in them here so they don’t lose them. They would tie all the coins together and to a loop.
Beau, I have to say, you and Deep Digger Dan have the best videos on TH-cam, hands down! Nugget's are good too but they're a bit slow. You guys get right to point, you don't BS a lot or talk about stuff that's not worth listening to. Good job man. Congrats on the great find. I'm new to this but I've watched A TON of videos and you and Dan are the kings! Keep up the great work!
Yes! They're my favorite detectorists too!
+Ron ReedYou should check out terraGermania.
Nice videos and a lot of roman stuff.
Cool thanks
hoover boys are great too
Oh man, I totally forgot about DDD. Thanks for the reminder!
Hello Beau I watched this video for the first time back in 2011 and it inspired me to buy an AT Pro.
200+ Gold rings later it is still my #1 land and water metal detector. Thank you sir and good hunting!
What a awesome find!! My friend and I once found a box with Confederate and Union items in it in our area..was a great feeling to have a pay off type day. :) Good luck to you in the future. :)
if money was so hard to come by back then I wonder why everyone was throwing it around in the creek?
John Culver true you never know what it could have been back then
up through the 1930s people did not trust banks so they buried their money in bags, jars and later cans etc., it was a pretty common thing to do., in fact back in the 1960s knowing this the metal detector hobby really took off.
+TexasGonzo10 I understand what your saying now. I have been wanting a good metal detector and pinpointer. But I don't want to go around digin up nails all day.
MR. FUSON Maybe they were attacked and did not want the money to go to an attacker.

I was so excited for your find that I had to show my ten year old daughter and she was just as excited! So cool!
Just fantastic!!! The best I have ever seen! BTW, that Mexican 8 reales is neat--the first issue of 1823. Just incredible. Which region of the US? Very, very cool!! Thanks for sharing.
you may have found about 100000 dollars in value. Any word about the local history regarding this stash?
The amount of times I have watched this video! Can't be nothin more satisfying than bringing up tonnes of huge silver coins from a river. Nice!!!
Someone must have dropped a bag of silver there. Interesting to guess the story behind this
+John A Yes! During the vid, it was hard not to think of the possible scenarios of how the silver got there
I always come back and watch this video every year! Awesome find Beau!
That is so awesome, I would love to find something like that, you are a lucky man, love your videos. They give me inspiration to keep trying lol
The prospecting or Alaska ones are great too
Awesome find! Congratulations. How much fun was that?!
Just came back to this video. Just as good as the day I watched it when he posted it. Happy hunting!
I would love to know the story about how those coins got there. Congrats
Numerous ways robbery and on the run and tossed them is what id guess most of all in a river
@@22koga If you tossed it then why wouldn’t you come back for it? Who ever dropped it got killed. That was a fortune back then.
@@haydenlogston2164 maybe or the area was to hot to go back and easier to just rob something else
@@22koga That is a hell of a lot of money to leave behind. But maybe that was a small amount compared to the bulk they may have had.
@@22koga I think who ever lost it must have died. Maybe they crossed the river when it was to high and drown.
Somehow I think the karma of saving that mouse has caught up with you, at least that's my hope..congratulations I can't think of a better person to a found such a stash. I can only imagine your adrenaline and excitement though you played really low-key cool I would've just been flipping out
Now that is what I would call A Find of A lifetime! 😊😊😊😊
I love how people keep asking him where he is like he's gonna give away his Honey Holes!!! LMBO!
Wtf does lmbo mean?
Laughing my butt off lmbo
Right!?
Oh lmao okay
That's stupid
Someone mourned the loss of this bag of silver and maybe died because of it. Nice find
So much for that...guess I'll have to keep working for a living.
look under the big T :-)
Look where the big "X" is on the sign hanging from an old tree.
Or? Some Dumped them after Stealing them and was shot Dead..Took their location with him..Got Many Wedding bands and Engagement rings that way.. They also wooukld just throw them away getting Divorced or catching Her or Him with another Man/Woman or Both?
midwestmatthew it don't matter if they own property taxes have to be paid go check the public tax roll for that address the County collector make sure that they would check every living area in their District sup baby back in there to do about a horse and buggy now it's all done by cars and Google
This is by far my favorite video of yours! Your finds in that spot are a detectorist dream!!! Happy Hunting! ~ Gypsy
amazing treasure! But how did U find that place?
I'm so torn between being head over heals for this sweet, funny man (and totally believing him), and being suspicious of him. A couple of his vids seem a little click-bate-y (the one with title having to do with skull - in front seat of truck under water?!) and then this one just seems so...SO damned lucky and he seems really calm about it (while also clearly selling or plugging the metal detector...which in and of itself is fine of course). Please tell me this guy with his fun, charming personality, love of birds and turtles lol and delightful, curious self is legit. :)
Ayram9 I
I've had the great pleasure of detecting along side of him and I can tell you he's a really genuine guy.
It’s legit. It takes years and years and years to build that type of patina on those coins.
I’ve watched this video so many times. It got me into the metal detecting hobby that I am so passionate about. I live between Boston and Plymouth Mass so we have a lot of history in the ground. Thank you for the inspiration to get into such a great hobby
why isn't this viral?
this must be a former wishing well...
It would be only for rich people though, who would just throw away silver coins
+Ian Patt All coins before the 1960s I believe (Probably wrong) Was all made of silver
How much would you sell one of those American half dollars for I have been always trying to look for one for my collection and I could never find one :)
what year do you want
Has your hearing gone off since? Your voice is louder of late. Or were you just sneaky for having the huge river find?
I'll now try to find out what you did with this hoard.
+Aquachigger Gotcha!
Why? What was the exact scenario here? Curious.

whats the value of all that
DUde this is 50 grand-250 grand in coins more if you get them professionally cleaned
You are a special person, everything you get above is treated with respect.
Feels like a promo video.
My luck would be to find coins in the pocket of a dead person..
That would be one lucky stiff.
I always come back to watch this video every now and then. It’s crazy to think how those coins have been there for 180 years
Some coins may be real but most are as fake as they come. Go look on AliExpress and see all of the similar coins they have for sale out of China.
***** hoiw do you know these are fake how did you tell cause i have found alot of these kind of coins and they are all silver and overall they are alot of money
MrPotts88 you can fake it easily.any one can buy Ali express any coin fake .you can act like you found a double eagle. Most of them treasure hunting are fake. I am from Sri Lanka .i am not going to do that here.i will step on a land mind that type of luck I have..
One of the coolest coin hoards found ever captured on video.
Wow! That's awesome! The best thing I've found is 17 coins from a shipwreck on Lake Michigan. They all are american and date from 1835 to 1876. Of course I am still going back there and continue to find around 5 coins on average each time.
Wow, that is a fantastic spot and a great coin collection for a 3 day outing. I am as excited as you are and you are the one doing all the work. Thanks for sharing.
