    I watched robovac youtubers for 2 years and found your channel couple weeks back, when i heard on this video "Roborock why can you just put the functionality of scheduling cleaning zones" i knew i was missing a true gem of a channel all this time. Also all the observation about diff carpets and obstacles detection, you really take time to get to know the robot and not just release the video 3 days after you got it. Keep it up mate!

    I've the S4 along with two long-haired humans and a husky. I have to empty it daily, but it does a fantastic job cleaning and I would literally go mad during shedding if not for it. Been wishing for this since the predecessor was announced, and now it's finally a thing. Particularly been interested in the mopping feature because the S4 only has a wet cloth it pulls around. Obviously I was never expecting wet mopping action from it but just keeping things a bit more maintained between proper cleaning is always welcome. The S4 is still good enough that I can walk around without socks and not have grit on my feet during dry season, which is hella impressive.
    Glad to see that quality has remained a high priority for Xiaomi. It also looks like replacement parts are still easily available. Thanks for a fantastic review.

    Great and comprehensive review, thank you for putting in the time and effort on this! I have an s7 auto empty and maybe I’m missing it but I can’t find a way in the scheduled cleanings to have the robot do multiple passes, a feature I would really appreciate since that second pass really gets things spotless.

    I really enjoy your videos I find them really informative! I think a really helpful addition would be a maintenance and supportability section of the videos, in such an expensive item I think its important that parts can be user serviced and not end up as landfill if there is an issue out of warranty. My Eufy vacuum is great as the wheels and battery can easily be replaced with just a couple of screws, from the video this vacuum doesn't look be as user maintainable. I find that the battery will wear out after a while and being able to replace it easily adds a lot more longevity to the product, I think it would be great if you could mention how "green"/serviceable the vacuums are... just a friendly suggestion to make your awesome videos even better :)

    I have been using the maxv for a few months now as well and can only say, despite not buying the cleaning dock, i am amazed and in love with it…. set it up and empty the bin every few days with 2 cats. The water and the mop do get dirty quickly ( which i good and bad haha) but it cleans fairly well. In that regard i wish i bought the cleaning dock but 700eur for filling up the water and cleaning the mop is still too much for me. Anyways i will never use any other bot or look at any other bot because it is a gamechanger. It is Smart!! in cleaning and lets you put lots of individual functions! Only downside: it recognizes that it would get stuck in my dining chairs so it doesn’t clean under them. But you can tell the robot to clean it anyways(ignoring the “avoid the obstacle” when clicking on the obstacle after the clean)

    Great review, I couldn't agree more. I absolutely love my S7 Max V, I've decided not to get the ultra dock or auto empty dock for now, I don't use the mop feature enough to really need the automatic washing of the mop pads and emptying the dust bin is no big deal. I don't have pets so don't have to worry about the pet waste issue. I have a few suggestions for some videos. How about a detailed review of the Ecovacs X1? It would also be interesting to compare the cleaning performance of the Ecovacs X1 and the Roborock S7 Max V, those two bots are probably considered the best right now, they're certainly the most expensive. The Roomba J7 and Roborock S7 Max V are probably the two best robots to avoid pet waste at this point so comparing those might be interesting. I think the Roborock is better by far, no comparison there really. I now have 8 bots and I've definitely developed some favorites. My favorites in no particular order are the Roborock S7 Max V, the Roborock S4 Max, the Eufy Robovac X8 and my newest one, the 360 S10, I'm really impressed with that one. I definitely like the next 3 and I'm glad I got them but not sure if they would be my first choice for a recommendation but they're good over all. The Neabot Q11, the Dreametech L10 pro and the Trifo Lucy pet edition. I would have to say the Roomba J7 is my least favorite, it's ok, but all of my other bots are just better at navigation, cleaning power and battery life. I know you also have the Roomba so wondering if you feel that way as well, Irobot has just really fallen behind the times compared to what is out there now.

    Thank you for creating reviews I actually feel that I can trust :) I find that espeicially rare to come by with these kind of products, so I wonder if it's because of paid/restricted reviews or something like that. But if that's the case, then there's a a ton of those. Do you know if that is the case?

    • @MrRoombato
      @MrRoombato  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Most reviewers get free products, open the box, record the robot cleaning their house, put up the video and then sell or give away the robot. They don't trash the robots because they want companies to keep sending them more. TH-cam rewards quantity of content. I apparently am dumb, because I refuse to do that. I've sent back robots because they were trash (I won't trash a robot unless the company demands I review it) and I turn down most requests for "collaboration" because I'm tired of wasting my time testing bad robots. I also actually use every robot I review. If it's terrible, I can't use it, so I won't review it. But this is why I only have 3000 something subscribers while everyone else has over 10,000.

  • @twohassles43
    @twohassles43 ปีที่แล้ว

    I just bought the S7maxv ultra. Still getting to know it since I have only had it 2 days. Your video has helped me immensely. Ty for that! It made me subscribe. My question for u is, does the robot know when to go to the dock to empty the dustbin when it becomes full? I have did a full turbo clean on my entire house and it did not empty the dustbin until the robot needed to charge. I was so worried that the dustbin surely had to be full before it needed to charge. I figured my house has plenty of dog hair to make the dustbin fill up and need emptied before the cleaning is complete. So does it know when to empty dustbin, or do I need to manually send it to dock while cleaning to empty dustbin, and then resume cleaning??
    I think i am going to love this thing once I get my cleaning schedule figured out. Ty again for your great in depth review! Bravo to you!

    • @MrRoombato
      @MrRoombato  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No it does not, thanks to iRobot and their patents. I'm not sure what the latest features of the app are, but I think you can make it empty the dust bin every time it goes to clean the mop pad. If not, you can change your schedule to multiple schedules of a few rooms each, then it will empty between each one.

    • @MrRoombato
      @MrRoombato  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can add a map in the app and take it to a different floor. To me, it's a gimmick. The whole point of a robot like this is minimal involvement in the process. Carrying the robot to a different floor doesn't quite mesh with that. But yeah, it can do it.

    Think you can set the frequency on how frequent it will go back to watch the mop so if you know it's very dirty you can just raise the frequency.
    Also note that you can set how careful it should be in the app, for example I have set mine to be careful so it makes a small circle around each object.

    At 15:03 you can have the robot clean a marked area on schedule by instead of using "Schedules" option use "Routines" option in the window before choosing robot in the beginning of the app. Routines also allows you to have a number of different tasks to be done in order, like if you want it to vacuum with max+ mode first and deep mop after automatically, this is where it can be done.
    Is it possible to buy a brush with bristles on the roborock store and change out the rubber only one for people with a lot of low pile carpets?

    • @MrRoombato
      @MrRoombato  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'll have to look into that, thank you. I didn't play with anything in the app before you select the robot. As for your question, it may be. @MrRoombato  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@milham975 Yeah, I found it. Haven't played with it much, because it seems like a manual solution. Meaning, you program a routine and then you have to go into the app to activate it. • @MrRoombato

      I don't see any evidence that it has that capability, nor can I imagine how they would program it with the available technology. If I may be so bold as to make a suggestion...urinating in the house is a very serious problem. I would try to address that urgently. Crate training seems to be what most people do. Lock 'em up, only let them out to go outside and take them out immediately to pee, then reward them (e.g. beef jerky) for peeing outside. Let them out inside every now and then and follow them, wait for them to pee, scream "no" as they do it, and drag them outside. Eventually they will get the idea. If they know it's bad and still do it, well... :)

    • @MrRoombato

      Assuming the M6 can move around your house (it usually can't), it's a good mop, but it will require constant attention. Even if you're comfortable with leaving the same dirty pad on it, it will run out of water quickly and you will need to fill up every time you use it (unless you live in a tiny apartment). It also doesn't do as good a job as the S7 MaxV Ultra (although it's close) and takes much longer.
      The i3 cleans fairly well but takes much much longer and can't clean at night.

    One of the huge shortcomings of any online reviewer is that they almost always never discuss long-term ownership experience (recurring costs, maintenance, repairs, performance, customer service experience etc) and after-sales service by the manufacturer during and after warranty periods. If the Review needs an addl. 60 second refresh video to discuss long-term ownership experience say one or two yrs down the lane, then that should be done as well. In my research of robot vacuums, I have not seen any reviewer address these concerns. Yet, the internet is flooded with folks having terrible experience with manufacturers in getting their broken units fixed. $1000 is a boatload of money to only realize that your unit broke after 366 days and then you are left high and dry.

    • @MrRoombato
      @MrRoombato  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well, if it helps, I still use this unit daily a year later, and I have no plans to retire it , even after I get the S8 Ultra they just sent me. It's a fantastic robot. The only issue I've had is that it doesn't know when its bag is full and if you let it go past that point then the entire self empty system gets clogged and you have to do a very thorough cleaning. The other issue is that if you combine a lot of dog hair with something else, like pieces of leaves in the fall, the self empty system gets clogged at the elbow near the bag. But then I don't know of any self empty dock that doesn't. Dreame's comes close.

      @@MrRoombato Thank you for reviewing my feedback and appreciate your quick response with useful information. I enjoy watching your in-depth reviews. Please continue to do these videos. S8 Ultra appears to be more bang for the buck even with S7 price drop for a few reasons. S8 comes with dual rollers, dual mopping agitators, 3D improved obstacle avoidance (in theory), and a included heating element for drying the mop pads. The dock looks nicer than S7 too with everything concealed. My biggest concerns: Roborock says they respect privacy and have obtained some sort of certification from a third-party known as TUV Rheinland. Never heard of them. In theory, Roborock by way of internet and cloud access has access to our homes, floor plans, people, pets etc. Second issue is long-term - with so many moving parts, if something were to break, do we get parts, service etc. My 10 yr old Miele Canister works awesome. I am not sure if these fancy robot vacuums and mops will last half that time. Again S8 is not cheaper by any means - $1599 retail.

That said, it's just a general precaution I live by...same with google home and Alexa. I think that it's about as private as anything else. If someone really wants to, they can get in. Just like your home, your locker at the gym, your car...everything. So I don't worry about it.

    On rare occasions our dogs pukes on the floor, because, well.. They're dogs. Will the robot avoid that?

    • @MrRoombato
      @MrRoombato  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It depends on what it looks like and whether it recognizes it as something to avoid. I have no way to test with puke short of puking on the floor myself, and I'm not gonna do that. :)

  • @hansielategan969
    @hansielategan969 ปีที่แล้ว

    I agree with you. Pet waste ill that really counts. As someone with 7 dogs, these things happen! I had my old Viomi smash through it and the floor was easy, it was on tiles, but the robot itself was a disaster! That is why I purchased the beast that was available in country to do that avoidance, the Roomba J7+. I must say that it is very good at avoiding pet waste. Would love to upgrade to this eventually, but sadly it is not available to us. Would have been great as I have mostly tiled floors.
    The low carpet seems to be an issue with all the rubber roller robots. I only have low profile carpets. My J7 seems to do well collecting the dog hair, but tend to leave a couple of rolls of dog hair on the carpet, which I have to pick up. Cannot figure out why. It collected it, rolled into a hair worm with the rollers, just to kick it out again.

    • @MrRoombato
      @MrRoombato  ปีที่แล้ว

      The j7 is the best at avoiding objects, just not the best at navigating around them and getting the most cleaning done. As for low pile carpets, get rid of them! :P

    • @hansielategan969
      @hansielategan969 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MrRoombato Haha send the money and I shall replace them!
      As for the general cleaning I cannot complain. The J7 may not have the best suction, but it does clean better than m Viomi with much higher suction. I think it is the double brush roll and the dirt detection sensor. Around the chinchilla cages it does not leave a crumb.
      I am not a fan of vslam, but I had no other options. Once it ran a couple of times and had the map sorted out, the navigation seems to get a lot better, but it does leave a wide space around pet waste, but again, I will rather take the cautious approach than the alternative!

    • @hansielategan969
      @hansielategan969 ปีที่แล้ว

      and then lastly, the J7 is incredible with avoiding hair tangles on the rollers. The Viomi has to be detangled just about every day, the I don't even look at the J7 more than once a week.

    Your test falls outside the working parameters of the unit according to the user manual. The Roborock S7 is NOT designed to mop up large spills. It is designed to clean dry hard surfaces of dirt, dust, debris. Spinning-head robovacs aren't designed to clean up liquid spills either even if their spinning heads can be somewhat more absorbent (the ones on the market today don't pre-wet their spinning pads). Try to keep tests within operating spec or else the test is moot.

    • @MrRoombato
      @MrRoombato  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      How many end users are going to read operating specs and only send their robots on jobs that conform to those specs? Also, it's good to "torture test" the robot by sending it on jobs beyond its rated capability to see how it would cope. It's not like it breaks down. The worst thing that happens is it doesn't do the best job. And that tells you something about its limitations, which is useful info for consumers. Even Roborock themselves, who sent me this unit for free, didn't complain about that test.

    • @ShadowPoet
      @ShadowPoet ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MrRoombato I don't necessarily agree. It's like testing the suspension of a car by driving it 200mph on a bumpy road full of potholes just for the sake of "torturing it"... why? Wasn't designed to do that. Real world tests are more informative and honest I think--I don't think it's common practice for people to drop a cup of milk on the floor and then try to wipe it up with a wet swiffer and expect the floor not to be sticky with milk. As for Roborock... I don't know how they operate or if they get involved in these sorts of reviews. On that note, appreciate the effort and content... you actually sold me on buying one... should be here in a few weeks. I WONT be torture testing it lol

      @@ShadowPoet I'm glad! You'll love it. As for the tests, driving 200mph at all, when not on a race track, let alone over a bumpy road, is dangerous and dumb. But using an S7 MaxV to clean up wet spills isn't even that horrible an idea. The only thing it had trouble with was the milk, and I think if I'd had it do multiple passes, after cleaning the pads, it would have gotten it. It's not like it hurts the robot. So why not see what it can do? Also, I subject all of my robots to the same tests (or at least close enough) and every other robot did this. It wouldn't be fair not to see how the S7 fared.
