I was driving the South Texas backroads today and this song popped into my mind. I'd forgotten the artist and the title. Then I remembered it was from Baghdad Cafe. Glad I found it.
I can't sleep and listening to this song in a middle of the night, takes me to an imaginary scene where I took my mother to a place with a nice view , she likes beaches, so I was there with her, holding her hand, hugging her and giving her a kiss on her cheek and saying I love you mom, thank you for everything. My mom is in her battle with breast cancer, all my life what I can remember she works so hard to feed us, to make sure we have something on our plates. My father has been taking her for granted, their relationship is very depressing to desribe. I cant recall anytime my mom has taken a vacation to a nice place not even within the country, all shes been doing is working she most of the time doesn't even have time for herself. I am stuck with my study miles away, and I still cant repay her for everything shes done for us. Right now listening to this, all I want to do is to bring her to a nice place for a treat, because she deserves beutiful things in this life, she deserves a lot more.
+Hani S. Better regret what you have done, not what you haven´t done. Your studies can wait, your mother can´t. If your mother is a role model for you because of everyting she´s done, and you´re still procrastinating, then you´ve learnt nothing.
+Hani S. Ciao from Italy... if you could get near her to ask her what she would like.. could be also a metaphoric little trip in the memories when you were achild, a gift of for instance a perfume of the sea she never saw can guide her to somewhere in the foreign states she never was... (I had success with my father with it, while all the other thought he needs to eat something perfect or ... with a big deal of efforts and suitcses, fast jumping a tto short time in a place) this wants to be just a suggestion sine i am dancemovementtherapist and illusionist and dancer ... I intend to say that fantasy, in any case can support your leak of time or leak of energy of your mamma!!! hug, arrivederci , Daniela

Here in 2024. remember this movie..and I think they even did a tv show based off the movie too. Many ppl have made this song but this is the only version I like.
I had a dream about this song and woke up crying Been listening to it a lot more since then. I remembered this song when I was a small child’87- I was in bed with my Grandma and the music video for The Tv show Baghdad Cafe played on Friday Night Videos I miss the 80s so much
Just added Bagdad Cafe to my "to watch" list as I have not seen it in decades. This song is FIRE! Thank you, Ms. Steele, for this phenomenal song! Just put it on my Spotify list!
The first time I saw this movie was when I was 10 y.o in 1990! Didn’t realize it was a European film until I was much older. Gotta say, as a former truck driver driving throughout the United States....this film is absolutely accurate. Characters and ALL! Plus CCH POUNDER did a Great job portraying an Afro-American woman! I had absolutely no idea she was English neither😂 Absolutely genuine! My favorite most favorite movie of ALL TIME!
Percy Adlon named this film "Out of Rosenheim." as that couple which did not love each other lived in Rosenheim in the script. US Distributors changed the title to Bagdad Café as that was the name the café in this movie had. There are two version of the soundtrack. Pure German (CCH Pounder and others dubbed) and the "Bavarian English version", where no dub is done. The German of Marianne Sägebrecht got English subtitles.
I remember watching bagdad cafe growing up and finding the actress looked like my mother, who was moved away at the time, and would cry hearing this, i still have my mother today 30 yrs later, i know this song will def make me cry when i lose her, Such a beautiful heart felt song.
This song used to be on a MCI commercial and I never forgot it I randomly thought about checking you tube and here it is !!! It bring back so many memories 😢😢
Whenever I hear this song, I just stop everything I'm doing, sit down, close my eyes and drift away in some undefined space where time is suspended until I gently land back at the end of the song wherever I happened to be sitting.
Randomly this song started playing on my playlist today "Calling you" I immediately remembered the haunting melody from my childhood, one evening dad was watching TV and mom was studying in the dining room, we were already supposed to be in bed but I was out (sound familiar?) and stood in the passage above the stairs watching the TV in the reflection of the sliding door until dad saw me and I skedaddled back to bed. The movie was Bagdad Cafe and I remember the awkward lady with the suitcase when she got out of the Rolls Royce and walked to a motel. No idea how I remember that. This is from 1987 so I was about 4... and dad would have been 35 (about my age now)
"Where is the magic?" "The magic is gone...." I love this movie so much, Marianne Sägebrecht is such an awesome actress. But only the english-bavarian original version. The german synchronisation is just to run and hide... The pictures in this movie speak louder than the dialogues, they are utterly beautiful and very poetic. One of my absolute all time favs ! Thank you for sharing this song. 🤩🤩🤩
This is a hauntingly beautiful and unusual melody. It is sung, beautifully, by Jevetta Steele. This film was a gem: quirky, with interesting characters, a fascinating story line, and a mixture of drama and comedy. In 1990, I ate in the restaurant where the cafe scenes were filmed. It is in Newberry Springs, California. Many photographs from this movie were displayed on the walls of the restaurant.
Bagdad got hit really hard when they built the new freeway (40 vs 66? It was decades ago). When I was around 10 (1971) it was a stop in the middle of the Mojave...
When I listen to this song I think of Dad and I know he and God are by my side protecting me cause I have gotten through some of the most difficult times in my life and I am still here.
One of my all-time favorite movies. I watched it in the theater in the 80's when I was in my 20's and still have showings of it now in my 50's. The song is so haunting.

So do it, because you may regret it sometime. I know what I'm saying.
+Hani S. Better regret what you have done, not what you haven´t done. Your studies can wait, your mother can´t. If your mother is a role model for you because of everyting she´s done, and you´re still procrastinating, then you´ve learnt nothing.
+Hani S.
Nothing is worth ignoring God's whispers. Studies will always be here. Find a way. Take her:)

Take a year off. BE with her while she is here.
A masterpiece of mixed feelings, too beatiful....♥️
Watched this movie my entire childhood this song never left my heart now I’m an adult and I’m here listening to it. 😁 Classic
🔥👍♥️🇫🇷🤗 joyeux Noël.
Not me but I understand the 'calling' - I keep coming back to it.
I Agree❤
Never saw the movie, but this song never left my soul either. Heard it a few times on the radio as a very young me and how many times I sang I ,I I I am calling youuu .., but that was all I remembered .Never left me either. 🌬🌌🌊🌕💛⚜
Same, this song and, especially her voice are hauntingly beautiful.
Splendidi colori, meravigliosa atmosfera, personaggi perfetti. Poesia. Poesia pura
This song is gorgeous and transcendent. And what a cool, strange little movie this was.
Just like a wolf, an owl, or a lioness, calling in the middle of the night, a beloved one… we’re the same…
This is my number one most fabulous film and music score.
Un tres beau film ...quelle interprétation magistrale
Here in 2024. remember this movie..and I think they even did a tv show based off the movie too. Many ppl have made this song but this is the only version I like.
❤
Película y música inolvidables
The song resonated & years later, it saved my life.... it's as if the writer, knew some weak person like me would need this song someday.
This original version can't be be bested. Perfect is perfect.
You should listen: "The Voice of Poland Dorota Osińska Calling You".
Jeff Buckley’s version from 1992 is even better than this.
THIS version is the best period!
This version is amazing. If U don't like it go on that page and.listen to that one.
A ton avis pourquoi on l'a appelé Bagdad Café ?
Perfect mix of nostalgia, wistfulness, a dreamscape and a call to the soul from another world.
You said it perfectly
I had a dream about this song and woke up crying
Been listening to it a lot more since then. I remembered this song when I was a small child’87- I was in bed with my Grandma and the music video for The Tv show Baghdad Cafe played on Friday Night Videos
I miss the 80s so much
This is one of the most haunting songs I've ever heard. What a pure voice!
Oh yes !!!
Unbelievable. Timeless masterpiece..
I had absolutely no idea she was English neither😂
Absolutely genuine!
' i'm calling you ' this song is magnificently sang and the musical arrangements is beautiful too . A song that will defy the laws of time .
I do the same….
I’m with you on this journey
Randomly this song started playing on my playlist today "Calling you" I immediately remembered the haunting melody from my childhood, one evening dad was watching TV and mom was studying in the dining room, we were already supposed to be in bed but I was out (sound familiar?) and stood in the passage above the stairs watching the TV in the reflection of the sliding door until dad saw me and I skedaddled back to bed. The movie was Bagdad Cafe and I remember the awkward lady with the suitcase when she got out of the Rolls Royce and walked to a motel. No idea how I remember that. This is from 1987 so I was about 4... and dad would have been 35 (about my age now)
Lovely memory.
Beautiful memory, that song
makes me long for love with all my heart...
You must write more impressions of your childhood. Its beautiful.
The car was a big boat. I checked the opening sequence because I thought it was a Cadillac but it was a Lincoln Continental.
Unforgettable movie and very original song. Seen the movie few times, never get tired.
Ania Guerra.....so true!!

What movie is it from?
Bagdad Café
Love this song. So amazing. This is a timeless classic. So beautiful and haunting. It hits you deep in the soul
A warm, dry breeze at darkening dusk....lonely, beautiful, mysterious. glad to find this song again.
Gratitude ♥️
One of my favorite movies. This song with Javetta singing makes me cry every time. Something not so easy to do anymore.
Wow so there was really a cafe..Wow
Bagdad got hit really hard when they built the new freeway (40 vs 66? It was decades ago). When I was around 10 (1971) it was a stop in the middle of the Mojave...
@@melodiefrances3898 Interesting..
Good to know, thanks!
Check out dorato from the voice poland
When I listen to this song I think of Dad and I know he and God are by my side protecting me cause I have gotten through some of the most difficult times in my life and I am still here.
You are not alone ❤️ I Lost my dad too four years ago... I live some difficult Times too but like you said God and them are with us. ✨ God bless you
One of my all-time favorite movies. I watched it in the theater in the 80's when I was in my 20's and still have showings of it now in my 50's. The song is so haunting.
