    Thanks man. I appreciate a lot what you do. That's quite deplorable that so many people don't know whether or not their minors are paired with each other. On top of that, being terrified about our future doesn't help... I started off with international econ major and keep developing my english knowledge so I could freely speak in most contries. As I'm so eager about english and probably data science I think that I may need to take data science courses in english! It's gonna be cool! I hope it pairs well so I could be in demand on market. I'm planning on getting a masters in international econ.

    This whole video I was planning on leaving a comment to the effect of "Surprised that a Music minor wasn't on the list." I guess it falls under the umbrella of classes I'm interested in. I've really been enjoying the music in some of your newer videos. Great work!

    • @MarketPowerYT
      @MarketPowerYT  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Totally right! In fact, taking music classes is probably pretty underrated because employment prospects aren't great. But if you're majoring in economics and already have great career paths open, and if you have the space to take extra classes, then develop those music interests!
      There are plenty of people in quarantine realizing that they should have developed hobbies like playing music.

    • @MarketPowerYT
      @MarketPowerYT  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Actuaries have pretty good career options. The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that the job will grow much faster than most careers, and it has pretty high pay. Hold the course!

    • @americanhero8606
      @americanhero8606 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I mean, do you enjoy the kind of math that actuaries do? Have you actually met with some actuaries? Done some job shadowing?
      Picking a career just because of salary projections is a foolish way to chart the course of one's life. If you don't feel like you fit in with that field, you'll burn out in just a few years and never make the lifetime earnings of that line of work. If you have a passion for it, then go for it. But either way, please reach out to actual actuaries and get some hands-on experience first!

    Good day to you Mr. Teacher,
    I'd like to share with you one question that might turn into a relevant topic to talk about in the future.
    For a little backstory, I'm 24 years old, and I have just applied to a Internation Economics undergrad course.
    I've been working internationally for the past few years, but I've decided that time has come to double down on those mental gainz and study something that interests me, but also allows me for interesting career opportunities - that being Economics.
    Now, onto the topic:
    Would you say that Economics is Data Analytics, but with a focus on society, money and goods?
    The more I read about Economics, the more I feel that this is the case, and I'd love to hear your perspective on this!
    Thank you for your time,
    Looking forward towards you reply!

    The school I'm interested in combined, more or less, economics and political science majors. They have a BA in political economy and government. I'm interested in helping poor and marginalized families achieve the pursuit of happiness.
    We mess with our economies too much, which hurts everyone but it devastates the poor the most. We effectively create dire poverty and homelessness in too many of our cities with bad public policy.

      You might want to take a finance class that covers portfolio theory, not sure if you will have the prereqs tho.
      On the math side, it would be good to see if your college has a stochastic calculus class. It's typically taken after the full calc 1-3 sequence and a calculus based probability course.
      All those classes would be very beneficial/borderline required for financial engineering. Look at prereqs for masters in f.e. to inform any extra class choices, make sure you get enough math, then get as much finance as you can.

      Graduate schools want students to take Real Analysis classes because economic theorists use those skills to build models and prove properties about them. For students who don't plan on going to graduate school, I'm not sure which classes are the best. Real Analysis/Topology are still good classes for learning to think deeper and develop logic skills. The types of classes most relevant to economics today are going to be anything in machine learning.

      You'll want at least up to Calc III, Linear Algebra, and some Real Analysis courses. If you have time, you can do Ordinary Differential Equations, Partial Differential Equations, or Topology.
      An Econ PhD program is usually targeted at producing economics professors. If that's what you want to do, then it's the only path. But if you're interested in other careers, an Econ PhD might not be as valuable as starting in your field and getting job experience.

      Management will have a few businesses classes in it, and sometimes it's not as math intensive. But in other cases it could be a normal economics degree in the business school.

    • @MarketPowerYT
      @MarketPowerYT  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's true that math is a requirement. You might be able to get away with just taking the necessary classes. You have to do Calculus III and Linear Algebra, and most programs want you to do some form of Real Analysis (talk to your department). But there are a lot of math classes you don't need (e.g. Abstract Algebra). And on the margin I think the CS classes could be more valuable. Chat with an adviser and see what they say.
