Absolution is so underrated song by them. But Im glad you have the same taste. Its one of my most favourite Ghost songs, maybe my #1. I dont think theres a song that would top this one but you could try Majesty and Mary on a Cross. Btw you could be really surprised of how Mary on a Cross sounds like. Its not similar to any work of Ghost you heard so far. Its supposed to be a 70's rock and one of the first songs of Ghost because according to their lore its from 1969. In fact it was released on 2019 :D

If you enjoy the piano stuff take a look at Zenith. Its a bonus track that is available through TH-cam and some of their special edition album versions. Zenith is up there for me as one of their most sonically diverse and lyrically meaningful songs.

You might enjoy Helvetesfonster, as the ending is written by Mikael Åkerfeldt himself. It is an instrumental meant to sound akin to an eerie/ominous music box, as the title translates to "Window to Hell". Also you might want to check out Miasma, another instrumental from the same album (Prequelle), and in my opinion the best they've ever done. It's '80s squeezed into one song.

If you want more proggy stuff from them, definitely check out Spirit off the same album, and also Deus in Absentia, it's the last song from there and it's hauntingly beautiful and it ties in Meliora's themes perfectly, what direction a world without a moral compass and without any role models, be they religious or otherwise, is going down. Ironically, the name of the album roughly translates to "The pursuit of something better"

Tobias Forge has fronted many bands on many different genres. He's been in death metal bands, glam rock, alternative rock, prog, you name it. So he's able to throw that all together, and what comes out is Ghost. A genius IMO.

@@FlameImperishable That’s okay! The new album drops in March. They always do a mini tour before the full one. They’ll probably be back later in the year. 😁
One of the best parts of live Ghost is the presence of female vocals. They have three “ghoulettes” in the band that really add depth to the vocals.

  • @magnusblomqvist966

It's Tobias playing both the guitar and piano. (And bass) And you're right. There is so many layers. On the upcoming Impera album there is four guitars on every song. But on that it will be Fredrik Åkesson from just Opeth that plays all guitars. Their debut album Opus Eponymous is about the coming of the antichrist and second album Infestissumam, is about the presence of the Antichrist, Meliora's main theme is "the absence of god".

@@dallesamllhals9161 I’m not that into opeth sadly… but yes Fredrik is in since 2007, I just though that was funny to talk about opeth as an inspiration when Tobias hired one of their guitarist to work on Impera

Frederick joined on the watershed album I believe. I loved the previous guitarist, Peter Lindgren though and I met him and Mikeal a few times around the time Still Life and Blackwater Park tours were happening in early 2000s. I wonder what Peter is doing these days and if he has any new musical projects? I should look that up! … so apparently Peter has an engineering degree and is working as an IT consultant in Stockholm, not doing any music these days.

I love this song, and I'm glad they reacted to it, but by far my favorite is Zenith, and believe me, it's worth it, because in my opinion it's one of the deepest of Ghost, plus it has a melancholic piano sound that I love it, and the best of all is that it takes fragments from each album for this song, in theory this piece defines them

  • @iamslate

You can't go wrong picking a song from Meliora. This is their Black Album or Back in Black. When you do get around to reacting to Majesty, if you are familiar with a lesser known 80s band called Legs Diamond, you will find the sound very familiar.

You should definitely react to Ghuleh/Zombie Queen. It's over 7 mins long, it has a piano part too and the catchiness of other fast Ghost tracks, with a sound you can't really find in other Ghost songs. Imo it's the most unique thing they've done so far.

Meliora is by far their best work imo.. the production is amazing and it’s a great mix of the heavier sound from the first album and progressive sound from prequelle. That album won the Grammy first best metal performance I believe. Opus eponymous is a classic and should be listened from beginning to end. Con clavi con dio has the nastiest bass riff intro and Elizabeth goes straight into classic 70s guitar riffs that sounds like blu oyster cult. Genesis is bad ass, satan prayer has one of the sickest riffs ever and death knell is dark and sinister sounding. Enjoy going down the ghost path.. as much as I love the first 3 albums I can’t say I enjoy the path ghost is taking now with their music but Tobias is solid in his work.
