    I'm a little late to the WPL party, but I've got a C14 on the bench waiting for a conversion to "hobby" grade. Keep us posted on the progress of yours, it's good inspiration.

      Righto, will do! There isn't much more to get done, if you've watched the first two videos. Just gotta sort that steering now! It doesn't need metal axles or driveshafts, being that it's so light already, it's strong enough that I think I'll just run it till something breaks, then fix that as needed :)

    I have a set like this on one of the (admittedly 3 or 4) C14 and C24 series that I have yet to finish. I've seen other reviews online that this single speed is in between the two gears of the 2-speed. Setting the two-speed servo can be a bit fiddly, depending on how you assemble the chassis, as you already know from the C44

    • @RCTNT
      @RCTNT  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Quite right. Well, the nice thing about planetary gearboxes is their epic reduction, so another thing to try might be a 380 motor with more turns than whatever they've supplied here. They can be found cheaply online, so maybe buying a few (they're a few bob each) and testing could be something one might try if their hobby time and focus was on these little rigs.
      Personally I like the speed it has now on 2S with the planetary gearbox. Though I just found one on Ali that was about half the price of the one I featured here. It's coming, I'll test it soon in the B36KM - I don't like it's two speed. It works but it's fiddly. And one less servo makes waterproofing a bit easier!

      Oh yeah? Thanks for that! I've lived under a rock for the last few years and have barely watched TH-cam or anything - maybe an hour a week kinda thing - until recently when I started this channel. Don't even have a TV!
      Thanks for the tip, I'll check him out soon.

      @@RCTNT On the same boat. No TV since 2005ish. Just DVDs, Netflix and other sources for movies and a few documentaries that I play on my computer, and in the past couple of years, a LOT of content on TH-cam. I'm kinda wary if I should cut the Youtubing down a bit, but I enjoy getting a lot of info through media, so... can't help myself!

    • @RCTNT
      @RCTNT  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's odd, as this upgrade should draw less current than the highly geared original. Or similar current at least, given the difference in can size. But it's so much more controllable, at any rate. Sorry it killed your ESC/Rx combo, I didn't have that experience. Hope you managed to get it sorted!

  • @cyreljohncoronel9850

    The motor is not fast.

    • @RCTNT
      @RCTNT  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      But still too fast for this application and gearing, IMO.

  • @viki7110
    @viki7110 25 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

    Looking on yt I can tell that you are the expert in this motor/case, in your opinion could this combo drive a heavy truck on flat surface?
    I'm looking to convert a die cast 1/18 scale truck and looking for a gearbox/Motor that could just move it. The truck is over 10kg but it would be just for moving about on the flat floor so no rocks or any uneven terrain, any help is much appreciated.

    • @RCTNT
      @RCTNT  25 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      We can make some guesses, sure. 10kg is pretty heavy, but then, a smooth floor helps a lot. What kind of tires will they be? If hard, I think you'll be okay. If soft/squishy, this will add load to an already fairly taxed motor.
      Heat is going to be the main issue for this motor option. If you can get a heat sink and fan for the motor (and from memory, this was a 380-sized motor, so they definitely are available: amzn.to/3z1HJwX ), that'll really help.
      The other way to keep heat down is to use lower voltage - in this case, use like a 6-cell NiMH battery or a 2S battery. The motor will take 3S/12V, but keeping it to 6-8v will be better for heat. I think that should cover it.
      However, the problem I suspect you may encounter, aside from heat, is one of gearing. It may be too fast for your purposes, which will also lead back to the heat issue. It also may mean the mass of the model is an issue for getting the thing moving, as the motor will possibly be taxed pretty hard.
      For a bit more grunt for bumpy surfaces and zero worry about heat, this budget combo will do the job perfectly: amzn.to/3z1HJwX
      You'll need an ESC in either case. The HobbyWing WP-1060 is a solid choice: amzn.to/3ZgYZcl
      Enjoy the modding process! Sounds like a great little project :)

    • @viki7110
      @viki7110 25 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@RCTNTwow that's a super quick and detailed reply thank you. I just like my models be able to move and really enjoy the proces of rebuild and create something new. You gave me a link for the heat sink twice so when you say "this little combo" you talk about the 370 motor/gearbox and fan for cooling? Or is there somthing different you recommend?

    • @RCTNT
      @RCTNT  25 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Oh, sorry! That wasn't intentional! This is the other one I meant to link: amzn.to/4e4NPLC
      I understand it's a noisy combo, but the torque and size should be quite usable. Also the WP-1625 is another great little ESC to use, if the 1060 ends up being overkill: amzn.to/3XbM4FN
      Hope that's helpful! Cheers

      You want 2S, 10C would be enough for this little application, 600mah to 1400mah would be about right for capacity, and you'd need to make an adapter from the old battery and the right connection for your new lipo. All up you'll spend $10 to $25, I'd expect.

    Nice. I think this is the most logical starting point in upgrading any wpl. I’ll start here as well thanks. Also did you make a video on the steering problem ? I couldn’t find it in you’re videos. I’m new here but glad I found you’re channel 🤙🏼

      G'day Quinn, thank you for dropping by. This gearbox is a great start for most wpl models, that's an excellent observation. I must agree.
      You know, I haven't fixed this yet. I should give this little rig some more attention. I've been so busy with comp season (just got back from interstate from The Big One last night), I just haven't picked it up in a while.
      So, there's no video about it. Yet. I'll have another look at it soon and see what I can work out to fix the steering, because you're right, it is needed! Thanks for the prompt!
