    The E didn't get a fair shake. It's an amazing ship hindered by poor films, no love in the series, and an arbitrary replacement when it should have still been in service. Love this ship.

      Personally I think the Trek devs have gone to far with their designs. The Excelsior lasted 120 years with refits keeping her up to date. The Miranda’s lasted even longer and the Galaxy class was supposed to be a 100 year space frame… then Secret Hideout came along and figured that if they kept pumping out new ship designs, someone would buy them. Either in plastic or in STO.
      This, despite the fact they nuked the premier ship yard of the Federation in series… somehow I doubt the new designs will hang around long enough to make their mark on the fandom. How can they? When seasons have become half seasons and the CGI is so bad at lighting ships in space…. But more importantly, these ships aren’t treated as part of the cast and given it’s time onscreen to admire it ala TNG and Voyager?

      @ryanslauderdale First Contact could have been good but was overworked. And the E was just a playscape for zombie like Borg Scooby-Doo chases that resulted in the mystery of hoe many decks does she have.

    At least in Novel Canon, the Big E-E DID see action in the Dominion War, which included destroying a Dominion Battle Cruiser shortly after the beginning of the war along the Federation-Cardassian Border, while answering a distress call from USS Aurora. Unfortunately, said battle cruiser took the USS Aurora with her by constantly shooting at her.
    It also included participating in the liberation of Betazed, and the Battle of Earth during the Breen incursion.

    • @nooneatall8072
      @nooneatall8072 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      That is good to know. The films (in particular Insurrection) lost me when they had the BigE-E apparently sitting out the Dominion War. In a war so devastating, how could a ship as advanced and powerful as the Big-E-E be left to do that? Not to mention a Captain as renowned as Picard. She should most definitely have been involved in the fight for Betazed if nothing else.
      I have to read up on those Novel Canon stories. Fighting at Betazed and Earth would imply that the Big-E-E was part of a Strategic Reserve. That could make sense.

    With the whole number of deck issues, if I was a ship designer I'd say there are 26 decks but 2 are classed as sub-decks (much like that found on the USS Protostar), so in reality 24. The refit of the Sovereign-class was a definite beast and I would've liked to of seen it after it's Nemesis refit, and even though we saw it in animated form, it wasn't enough.

    To me the Sovereign -E feels like a newly bought sports car; very fast and sleek, with a ton of power under the hood, and that intoxicating new leather smell. But it felt like there was something missing: the very warm and welcoming homely atmosphere that the Galaxy -D just oozed with. I grew up on TNG and my heart will always go with that starship Enterprise. The -D also had these very organic looking contours that I loved. My only gripe is the girth makes it look a bit wonky at certain angles. If the -E is a new sports car, the -D was an old family minivan; a little embarrassing, but radiating with sentimental value.
    When I discovered the Odyssey back in 2015 (has it really been 8 years already?) I fell in love almost immediately. You had this ship that was able to combine the sleek lines of the Sovereign with the organic curves of the Galaxy! The twin necks threw me off at first, but they eventually grew on me. The Odyssey -F is the best-looking Enterprise in my opinion.

    My personal favourite Enterprise, and one of my favourite designs in Trek (Second to the Intrepid). In-universe it does make sense the ship didn't last that long; despite Starfleet's best efforts, the 'E' did seem to get into a lot of major battles, regardless of the fact that a lot of those battles are either when she was badly outnumbered or against opponents who thoroughly out-class her, but because she remembered to get her Plot Armour installed, she wins, but did mean she probably had a few more miles on the clock than her age suggested.

    easiest deck explanation would be that perhaps there are only 24 habitable decks and that when referring to the ship as an environment that's how they'd be summarized, but they'd still be numbered accurately, so Deck 26 could be the 24th deck where people routinely are found and a couple interstitial decks are just technical access and conduit and such.

    Simple explanation for the deck discrepancy in first contact.
    1. It;s a brand new ship / command
    2. Picard is under incredible stress and fear and PTSD.
    3. Picard is pushing if not just over 60 years old at this point in his career.

  • @wingsabre
    @wingsabre ปีที่แล้ว

    In my head cannon, the Enterprise E had 30 decks at launch, but some of them were double, triple or quadruple deck height in size. Either to accommodate storage space, hardware or some specific mission profile modules and when they went through refit, some of the double decks were converted to a standard deck. Maybe the computer cores were upgraded, the new one was smaller so they had room to modify the internals to add deck space. For example they may have decks 8, 9, 10, 11, 15, 18, 19, and 20 in that order and deck 11 would include 4 deck in height, while deck 15 would include 3 decks in height. So in First Contact, the borg may have reached deck numbered 26, in a ship with 24 physical decks.
    Maybe some of these bigger decks were shuttle manufacturing and shuttle space that is useful for an explorer in deep space, but became less useful in its later years when exploration became less of a focus.

    I (by far) prefer you to any of the other presenters, I don't click away when I hear your voice, but the others just seem to spew words AT me instead of including me in a one-sided conversation.
    Thank you, MY Captain.

    The thing that makes me dislike the Enterprise-F greatly is the thin, and split, neck design connecting the primary and secondary hulls. This completely ignores the wisdom Enterprise-E designers to protect against such a weakness. Otherwise, the rest of the ship is fine with me, not that my opinions matters lol :)

    Let me fix the plot hole. We could just say there was an extra 2 (3? 4? Whatever you like) decks on the bottom of the ship that are not commonly used and contain mostly equipment. Technically the ship has more than 24 decks but you wouldn't be incorrect for saying it only has 24, as the bottom decks are not often counted. Kind of like how you wouldn't count 3 basements on a skyscraper as actual floors. There. It can't b a proper plot hole if it's solved by a simple explanation.

      @tarn1135 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Always my thought on that. That and maybe the pylons and the tiny little bits hanging lower in that back were separate decks.

      Or a simpler explanation…the same way that basements aren’t counted as sq footage of a residence …for absolutely zero reason.

    • @02ujtb00626
      @02ujtb00626 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That doesn't really work though. Deck 42 of the Galaxy class is clearly deck 42. There are vast area's left unfinished as well, as well as some decks that contain ships systems and such (antimatter pods on deck 42, transfer conduits, etc) but those decks are still counted. On Voyager, the episode "Good Shepard" clearly shows deck 15 containing nothing but ships systems, yet is still considered deck 15. I think ultimately it is just a writers mistake. A refit could explain deck 26, but not in the same movie. Deck 29? No way without significantly altering the shape. The in-uni reason could be simple, the characters misspoke...but that is a stretch too. I say split the diff and embrace the cognitive dissonance. First contact? 24 decks....i am going with Picard. Nemesis? I can see a couple more (very small in sq. footage albeit) decks having been added in the refit, so 26 decks onwards.

    I always liked the headcanon, that starfleet was unable to field any soverign class ships and especially the Enterprise because the Dominion would instantly recognize it's moral value and just plow a small fleet into it (like they did the Galaxy class in their turf) demoralizing everyone who would witness yet another Enterprise being destroyed so fast. Recognizing that threat the Enterprise and her Sisters would be relegated to non dominion affairs to avoid that disaster.

    My personal favorite has always been the 1701 Refit Enterprise and will continue to be so. The Enterprise-E is a thing a beauty but there's ALWAYS been inconsistencies throughout Trek's history. It did bug me that they kept changing the number of decks for the Enterprise-E. I mean hell I think they kept the same number of decks for the 1701 Refit and for sure the Enterprise-D. Oh and let us not forget Voyager. They did change the number of decks for the Defiant (DS9) a couple of times but not as bad as for the E-E.
    By the way I'm curious why was most of the footage from the films shown swapped? It looked just....odd.

    I don’t get why they didn’t give the Sovereign more time. It has so much advancement especially against the borg and even regular enemies. If it can adapt against the borg it should be even more effective against regular enemies. According to STP Atleast Star Fleet did create a LOT of Sovereign class ships.

    *the super secret upper decks not included in "official" non high security schematics were in all probability (or at least in my own personal head canon) highly refined holodeck research labs that could rapidly generate prototype weapons or tools (while at high warp) then have the plans for them directed to one of the large scale replicators...reducing the need for constant refits at remote starbases*

    Sovereign-class design team room.
    We have taken a designer to found the Enterprise A, the Excelsior class, the intrepid class in a single concept. And I raised it to the size of a Galaxy class. And we liked the visual design so much that we're going to make another class of a tiny size to take care of exploration in certain missions like the Oberth class and its successors.
    Over the next two months, I want to see you scattered throughout the Federation, looking for every cutting-edge weapon system that is in development, every system that catches your eye. And I don't want guns, I want huge guns... and many of them. Don't forget the biggest and most powerful shields. It will be our job to find a way to put and feed them properly. Skipping the mental schemes... And if to do that, we need to adapt the weapons systems of starbases, so be it.
    It's time to get to work. Dismiss.

    When I saw a new Star Trek movie, I always looked for new starships named enterprise, especially after st generations. The only starship that EVER had me on the edge of seat, completely enraptured, was the 1701 refit in st tmp. No other ship has ever elicited an "oh my" like she did. Where grace and aesthetic beauty were concerned, she was the best ever, hands down!

    Awesome video BTW - Im going to say something a bit crazy. Why not take the Defiant class design and just multiply that in a larger hulll/design. The Defiant is more powerful than most larger class ships. So why not replicate that in a larger redundant hull and then slather it with similar/newer weapon systems. Add the Voayage ablative armor tech and shields it would be quite the ship. So far, "they" have not made a formidable ship. Even the Soverin is outclassed.

    these two should have had their own show, honestly.
    that same back and forth, as depicted here, but with Anson in the yellow uniform of SNW, and her as his wife constantly putting him in place.
    kind of what O'Brien's home scenes were in DS9, but a lot more high stakes.
