Oda likes to use different lores: Luffy has a scar on his left eye because Sun Goddess Amaterasu was created from left eye of Izanagi, and Moon God Tsukuyomi was created from right eye. When you look how Imu cut their posters, Imu cut Luffy's left eye and Blackbeard's right eye as well.
Very interesting Theory, especially the part about sacrifice. I totally agree with the part about Sacrifice, but in my opinion, he sacrificed not to gain power, but to lose power on purpose. This has always been my theory. Mihawk stated that Zoro is shameful for asking Mihawk to train him. Zoro is very prideful, especially when it comes to swordmanship. He didn't want a scar on his back when losing to mihawk. However, Zoro was willing to sacrifice his pride in order to help his captain, so he asked Mihawk to train him. But, he did NOT sacrifice his swordmanship. He knew it was shameful, especially learning from the person he wants to defeat. So after learning from Mihawk, Zoro purposely choose to lose one of his eye to level the playing field. So he will not be in debt to the person he wants to defeat and surpass. All this, to regain his pride as a swordsman to one day become the greatest swordman of all time. OR.... he opens his eye and there's a big burst of haki from mihawk. LOOL
I like your theory best. I’ve always thought that he keeps it shut on purpose to hold himself back and keep him on his toes, only opening it in a desperate situation.
@@pirateking7122the thing is, as Zoro is a very proud swordsman, he cannot just take from mihawk open handed. But he also has nothing to give back to Mihawk. Also, I thought it was very fitting for him to lose an eye after learning from mihawk, who is known for his hawk like eye.
I think it has something to do with Buddhism ironically JoyBOY theories has great insights on zoros abilities and his future. In fact I’m going to rewatch it right now. There’s two parts at least to it I recommend.
Rayleigh has the same eye scar. I think it's to train his weaker eye to be stronger and someday he'll have both eyes again for a big observation haki upgrade. Maybe to fight an invisible swordsman?
I personally think zoro will end up having some kind of eye power at the end. Rayleigh also has the same scar in his eye. I think there is a particular training they have to go through to achieve this power and Rayleigh couldn’t complete it. Zoro might end up having eyes similar to mihawk or imu (the circles in the pupil) with some additional powers
I actually like #Filmora , I started editing with filmora and for it is really good for beginner and it has advanced controls, color grading etc. Oda said that there's a man with eye patch appearing in the last arc of the One piece, we already met him that's Zoro, I think when we open the eye with scar, it needs to be covered with eye patch
i love the nonsense that is Zoro working out in the Sunny's crows-nest room using plates that weigh like half a ton! that Jewel Tree Adam wood is something else!
Ive had this thought ever since zoro got one of Oden's sword, enma which is the Buddhist judge over souls of the dead, odin also is associated with the dead as well although not the exact same way that hel is. also I remember ln wano where his scar on his face was noted to be just like ryuma if I recall correctly, I'll have to be double checked on that part.
You said he would have opened his eye against kign if it was an upgrade but I think it is an upgrade that he hasn't unlocked yet. I think he is still training and that training involves him nerfing himself so he can grow stronger until he reaches the point where he is ready to unlock the upgrade. And that upgrade will likely be observation haki on the level of Shanks and Mihawk. Rayleigh has a more broad understanding of haki but I think that Mihawk has really strong observation so his tactic of teaching it is very different from Rayleighs. Instead of learning the basics and then hoping for a bloom mid fight. Mihawk made Zoro cut or seal shut one of his eyes so that everytime he fought he would have to put much more focus on his surroundings and perception. This would gradually train his observation haki until he reaches a point of awakening where he would get advanced observation haki on the level of Mihawk or Shanks. If this is the case Zoro wouldn't be able to just bust it out vs King even if he wanted to.
So much talent for Zoro to put to use with this being a possibility. Hopefully it's true as joyboy being the first pirate. Love the research you've constantly done throughout your videos. More viewers need to subscribe because over 60% is quite a lot of lurking. Road to 100k though! Waiting on that karaoke for sure!
I think eventually we may see Zoro learn how to cut through sea prisim. Maybe learning how to like cut things on a molecular level just through very precise and deliberate sword techniques. What if his eye was scarified in order for him to “See the body of all things” or something like that similar to the breath or voice of all things.
18:00 “Something more grounded”….. ”He SACRIFICED his eye” 😂😂u think a special eye is not grounded in ONE PIECE but SACRIFICING his eye for more power is?🤨🧐the way yall think is crazy🤦🏾♂️😭
i also wanted zoro to have a deeper meaning behind that closed eye, either a cool story fighting mihawk, or some type of sacrifice that he made to discover new power when the time comes.
I had the impression Zoro had Mihawk-ed one eye but due to the “short” 2 year time skip it’d require him to keep it closed to level the normal eye up and I think it’s only been a few months since then
I believe in the Occham’s Razor principle here: the simplest solution, which is he got hurt while training and had to have it sewn shut to recover. However, being in the land of Overt Norse Mythology nods, we can speculate in Odin territory about Zoro’s missing eye. Kozuki Oden already has his GIGA CHAD legend; I’m thinking going to Mimir and Odin giving up an eye on his endless quest for knowledge.
He has probably promised to not open his eye until some condition is met eg till he fights Mihawk again. Zoro has strong convictions. He probably got injured and felt shame and promised to not open his eye till he was stronger and/or some condition is met. Whatever the case opening both eyes will be a huge boost.

Zoro always wants to know the right way, therefore he had to sacrifice an eye.
I wouldn't say he was influenced by Norse myth when talking about scars or disfigurement. The idea of sacrifice or punishment through mutilation is incredibly common
It’s a bit funny that one of few times I heard the, imo, correct pronunciation Oden rather than Odin, is in a One Piece video where the correct pronunciation makes it very confusing since we have a unrelated character named Oden.
My current head canon is that Zoro logic dictated that two eyes were distracting him from learning observation Haki so he blinded one. When he eventually fights Shiryu, he’ll open his blind eye and be able to “see” Shiryu
I think Zoro posseses the legendary Tertiary Occulus, yes, the same that the former Demon King Abura lost and that Gomah the actual Demon King is searching. This or the Sharingan.
I think sacrificing his eye is the most plausible explanation. Another swords man is Admiral Fujitora, he probably did the same thing to acquire a higher level of perception and wisdom. More recently, Loki, who has bandages covering his eyes, also could have done the same to acquire a deeper level of wisdom and knowledge.
Oda told Watsuki very early on in the beginning of One Piece that he’d make Zoro a one eyed swordsman, but he never told Watsuki the reason why so there’s definitely a deeper meaning to it.
Unrelated to Zoro, but what if Black Beards secret to stealing Devil Fruits is cannibalism? (or at least part of it) He ate part of White Beard and used the cloak to hide this fact so other people wouldn't see how easy it is. We already know that it's possible because Big Mom never actually ate her Devil Fruit, she just ate the previous user Mother Carmel.
With all of the references to myth that Zoro has, I feel like he will have a Tomoe at some point in the story, and if its in his eye, ho hooo that'd be one hell of a homage
I love the theory. I think, like most scars in one piece, was received during his battle against mihawk. He lost it doing his duel with mihawk and that scar shows that he won. I believe zoro has already became the worlds strongest swords man.
hmmm.. side note Odin the All father. Zoro's initial introduction can have two kanji that I can think of... Hon 本 meaning book but in some cases like in Hontou meaning True, then the second being the kanji for Chichi 父 meaning father. If you look at the word hontou as kanji... it has three swords... 本当
since no one actually wants to answer yes or no-> zoro has a demonic eye, it glows when he uses his asura you clearly see it when he use his asura. good talk good talk.
we all know that future fights of zoro will have the flashback moments too , with mihawk, or may be if he fights against mihawk (which seems impossible storyline to me, bcz it will be very cliche i believe mihawk will lose to someone more powerful and zoro will defeat that powerful enemy to become the greatest swordsman) so may be he fights against mihawk if happen the flashbacks will be there.
I just think it would be really boring if we found out that this big mystery we have all been theorizing about it just some power up that Zoro has had this whole time but we just didn't notice. That's why I think it should be an awakening or strong upgrade because if it's something he already has it would be really underwhelming.
He is just storing haki in that eye to be used in dire situations… Mihawk somehow predicted that straw hats will go against the Gorosie or garling and unleash haki powerful just like Joyboy … the name of the move “ 3 sword style - demon king black hole “ ….
Zoro is probably training observation haki. I think he's just doing what Fujitora did with both his eyes. I think you can put most of the Strawhats into logical or emotional thinkers and this relates to the observation haki they use. Sanji is an emotional thinker and is very attuned to sensing emotions. Usopp as a logical thinkerand could immediatly figure out how to hit Sugar. So i think that Zoro struggled with the emotional part of observation haki which is why he keeps his eye closed.

Honestly, I've always thought anyone who thought anything more than zoro losing an eye or keeping it closed to make it a real challenge is just sad. Lol eye powers, wrong anime/manga.
There is NOTHING behind Zoro eye, I've said this since Dressrosa. Love the theory tho, but Its nothing, BECAUSE HE DOSENT NEED IT. Zoro doesn't need a power up, he got that through Enma, Zoro mastering that sword is what will make him stronger, will make his haki stronger, YES for augment sake, it is a possibility to happen but don't be surprised when it comes out to be nothing but a damage eye. I can be wrong to, but I'm banking on not being wrong in this stance.
