    So helpful! This is the first video of yours that I’ve seen and already so much more helpful and informative than a lot of the TH-cam fishing videos I’ve seen. I’m new to saltwater so showing from start to finish what to do is awesome and I appreciate you showing how to tie the knots too. Only place around my location with similar jetty’s would be cape cod canal I think. Might be heading down there for some Tautog!! Thanks man - Matt from Boston

      Saltwater fishing can be pretty overwhelming at first for sure, so I’m glad you were able to learn some stuff from this! Thanks very much, Matt appreciate the kind comment! Best of luck out there at the Canal and tight lines.

    Great informative video. I've been slowly getting back into fishing since coming back to Jersey from the Navy. I've been trying to catch my first tog with little to no knowledge of what to feel for. I really appreciate the video and will try to get on a tog with your tips. Thanks

    Very thorough video. You hit every point that is important with blackfishing. One tip that seems to work being a jetty jock, put a 30' top shot of 30LB mono leader. If you encounter a snag and break off, just re-tie a loop for your sinker and a dropper loop for your hook (just get really good at tying knots on the fly) - you will need to use a heavier sinker if using a 30' topshot of 30LB test mono as it creates alot of drag in the water. I carry alot of hooks and 4 and 5 oz sinkers.

    • @SaltySamFishing
      @SaltySamFishing  2 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Thank you for the tip! Thats a very good point, makes having to tie a bunch of rigs the night before less of an issue when you can use the same leader!

    Nice video. I recently learned a tog can be ‘peeled’ like a mahi mahi. I prefer to cook fish whole and it’s practically impossible to scale a tog.

      @@SaltySamFishing thanks for the reply and the tips I moved to the us 5 years ago from the uk I used to fish at home but mainly freshwater but since I've been here I switched it up to the saltwater mainly targeting stripers,fluke and blues but done tuna aswell.there is a way better fishery than anything I've experienced in Europe and I've been around most of it what we catch and eat at home is mainly mackerel and i use that for bait here lol

    Great Video! Always love all the info you provide. Do tog only hang around jetties, or can you have a chance to catch them near any bulkhead or structure?

    • @SaltySamFishing
      @SaltySamFishing  2 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      This is a great question! Really the easiest way to get on them is at the jetties. However, they can also be found around docks and bridge pilings. If there’s structure around either a bulkhead, dock, or bridge then they can likely be found there (kayak access can make reaching those structures I’ve mentioned easier). Hope that helps.

    i think these fishing regulations are so stupid, its so hard to keep a fish, they make it almost impossible for in shore fishing, you cant keep a 14 inches black fish, but you can buy as many as you want at the fish market, i feel a lot of people feel the same way

    • @J_Z666
      @J_Z666 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I agree

    • @SaltySamFishing
      @SaltySamFishing  2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yeah regulations are definitely contentious across the board. I attended the fluke open meeting this year and I plan on attending more open meetings regarding regulations to learn more about it in the future. I know there’s a constant battle between recreational and commercial fishing which affects regulations in regard to conservation. It is tough to get that keeper size fish inshore sometimes though, I agree!
