As my grandfather and father always said...match the hatch of the bait fish! That always dictates the size and colors of the baits I start with! Thanks for taking us along!!!
As you said, John, I too am amazed by the size of fish will hit a plug half their size. Jack Cravalle will do the same here in Florida. Thank you the reading the beach video.
Awesome video love the surf ones. Nice big bluefish on poppers ill take that any dat thanks john. You got me into fishing again few years back with these videos . Now it's become a huge part of my life and I just wanted to thank yoy.
Another great vid, thank you. When the fly fishing season in my area in Europe is over I get to watch skillful Skinner perform my fav kind of saltwater fishing in the US. Priceless when u get to fish on your own for stripers and blues off the LI shores. I miss it. P.S. I had no idea how many bot-women had invaded YT to comment on fishing videos, lol.
The lure color thing- I always have to think about this when I'm choosing a paint scheme for a lure I've made. Fish are typically looking up, so the lure is outlined by the sky. I always hold a lure up to the sky and surprisingly colors can almost disappear, I think it's a lighter or darker thing and less "the color"- Thought I'd share cause I've wondered about this too.
First, Preying for your home, family and friends in Florida, I notice that I rarely see you using paddle tail, swimming plugs, diamond jigs, and wondering why ? Thanks 🙏🏻
"The fish don't always read the book." I like that. What US general said, "The enemy always gets a vote." Not that the fish are our enemies but... proceed with an open mind and be ready to adapt to conditions as they arise.
Regarding that smallish bass whacking that big nuclear green plug, wouldn't it be a case of seeing an unknown "invader" and defending one's home turf (I mean surf?) That instinct is hardwired into many animal species.
John, in all seriousness, can you explain how so many other fishermen seem to be fishing the south shore in the dead of night in full wetsuits, bleeding from getting blasted into the rocks by the surf, and you seem to consistently catch hogs on the bay side in the afternoon from the beach? What am I missing?
Awesome questions. I don't wash the surf bucktails. They do OK drying in the surf bag inserts. I spray the rod/reel lightly with fresh water. At least I should.
Love your videos. Just curious why you don't throw metal lips? I've caught so many big fish in all conditions throwing big metal lips. Doesn't matter if they're on small bait. They can't resist. Day or Night
I just don't think I can reach the fish where I get them on the spook. I've used them on the ocean many times. Deadly when you can reach fish with them.
Thank you for making my commute a lot more fun this morning , do you think there’s a temperature difference in the water temperature , north shore and south shore ? Awesome epic video thank you 🙏 one last question 🙋♂️, did you manage to get on any Albies this season ?
Hey John what was the tide doing on the south shore that day, incoming or out? And do you think swimming a needle along the bottom might have gotten a bass?
@@JohnSkinnerFishing You have such a great variety of options there. I'm across the Sound, South central Ct. Our fishing is not the best in the North East. It's hard for surfcasters with all the privately owned land. Some of the best Stiped bass fishing is in the rivers and not a lot of room in areas that produce, they tend to get over crowded. Even along the rivers there is private property or railways you can't cross without trespassing or you can end up in a not so good area. Thanks for the response.
Good fishing video Boss.. Great fishing rod automatically dives sharply when striking and I like your fishing video Boss.. Greetings and greetings strike 🤝🎣🐟🤙❤
I enjoy your videos and respect your work. Having 148k subs you may not care about one more, but I am genuinely bothered by your audio quality. I unsubscribed a while back because of it. Many other youtubers work in similar conditions to you and have wind sock/pop filters to pretty much eliminate the wind distortion. Thanks.
Great and helpful comment! I actually have a wind sock in my camera bag, but it works poorly if I don't put it on the camera. I'll try to remember in windy situations. On this video what you're hearing is way more surf than wind. It was very loud there.

I'm guessing the waves are hitting the bar and bait is being pushed into that deeper water in the begining. awesome video
Great video!

Mullet in the water is one of the few times I'm particular about color (blue), otherwise it's hard to go wrong with white/yellow.
@@JohnSkinnerFishing Well, if I ever make a mullet lure, I'll definitely be reaching for the blue paint then. lol
I love blind casting and getting a random giant blue or bass mixed in.
First, Preying for your home, family and friends in Florida, I notice that I rarely see you using paddle tail, swimming plugs, diamond jigs, and wondering why ? Thanks 🙏🏻
3:40 I would have a couple chunks and/or a head out in that spot

Purple bomber I use.

I think the fish all know him by now, they get caught just to say hello.
Lol
Too funny too true
Have you thought about using single hooks with a flag?
What I caught in this video are not big fish. Big fish fishing is far better at night.
I HOPE YOUR WINTER PLACE IN FLORIDA IS OKAY !!!
It is. Thanks!
What’s the pole and length? Thanks!
Have you ever thrown a tin to get under the bluefish?
I would and did try a bucktail.
Do you fan cast in each spot before you move to the next spot or do you just cast straight out? Thanks in advance
It seems you prefer throwing top water for bass. In the lowlight hours do you feel throwing those spooks and pencils is a good option?
Spooks, pencils, and bucktails most of the time for me.
Must be nice to have a fall run, southeast CT has been awful
Don’t worry bro, it just started to get good for us normal people (not John Skinners) on Long Island.
Yea CT has been awful indeed. Bunch of sea robbins though
I'm new to surf casting. Do you wash bucktails & lures after? How about reels & braided line? Fresh water wash?
Awesome questions. I don't wash the surf bucktails. They do OK drying in the surf bag inserts. I spray the rod/reel lightly with fresh water. At least I should.
I haven't gotten on a bass all fall 😭
"South shore is a loooong shore. Neighborhood? Abouts.
John how does your arm not fatigue from casting a 9' rod over and over again?
TRT
That rod and reel combo is relatively light in weight.
Yes, first to watch and like!
"the beaches are empty today" as I sit from my desk at work...torture...
It could be worse. You could have a job where you can't take a few minutes to watch Skinner's latest.
😭😭😭 seriously.
Could be worse than not have a job😂
Do you ever use the jumpin minnow for bass? Seems like you love that lure in Florida.
I carry them in the spring and they certainly work well. I wish they made larger ones.

What stage of the tide do you generally prefer when fishing the open beach?
That's highly spot-dependent. Some better on ebb, others flood.

No albies so far this season. Haven't seen any.
Hey John what was the tide doing on the south shore that day, incoming or out? And do you think swimming a needle along the bottom might have gotten a bass?
First of incoming.
can we say early dawn and dark are the best time to fish? Thanks!
Dusk through dawn generally best. 9-10' rods.
What pound test ? The link says 50lb Spider wire, is that accurate? Thanks
No - 30 Seaguar Smackdown. I'll fix.
@@JohnSkinnerFishing Thanks
@@JohnSkinnerFishing Do you find Seaguar Smackdown a better casting/castabilty ?
It's almost all I use in Florida because it casts so well and is very braid-friendly.
Of course empty beaches.I’ve been working 7 days a week.
what beach is that?
What was the tide ?
First of incoming.
@@JohnSkinnerFishing Interesting, Ty
How long of a ride from the sound to the South shore?
Almost an our from the eastern North Fork.

OK. Western or Eastern north shore? Just give me dat. 😁
east
@@JohnSkinnerFishing Thank you kindly!
Hey John do you ever throw any tins?
Rarely. Only if a very long cast is absolutely necessary, or if the fish are on sandeels.
