Thank you for telling (educating) the percentage of humidity, Helps with temperature We do not have a digital screen, the dial is pretty old school. And I have to change the screen in there also!
Thank you for the great video. It helped me clarify how to about diagnosing my humidifier which hasn't worked for a couple of years (Argh!). So I'm finally tackling it. I have the same model of Aprilaire (600) as is shown in your video. I am not getting any water to the humidifier. I checked and there is water coming into the saddle valve and it is doubtful that the copper line between there and the solenoid is blocked. I tested the DC voltage coming to the solenoid and the voltage is zero even when I have the furnace running and the humidistat set at 7. What are the possible reasons for no voltage to the solenoid? Is it clearly a malfunctioning humidistat? I believe that the Aprilaire humidifier is about seven years old. Thanks for your help. Tom Olschner
We run our fan 24/7. Assuming house humidity is low …. will the control shown in this video call for water even when there is no call for heat? Thanks for the video and your time!!
The control will call for water and for the furnace blower motor to run only without calling for heat. That will save a lot of wasted electricity for the fan not running 24/7.
I know the gf wire goes to the g terminal on the furnace board. Where does the g wire go from the humidistat? Do you pull the g wire from the thermostat off and connect it to the g wire from the humidistat?
I don't know what model you have, but they all have wiring diagrams that come with them. I wouldn't want to give you an answer without knowing all the information.
We’re considering one of these with a new furnace. What are the downsides to this system? I’m concerned about mold or moisture buildup in my furnace or ducts.
There are really not any downsides. These do not store water like the old style whole humidifiers once did. These have water trickle down through the panel and the excess water drains away and goes into a pump. I have not seen any mold or moisture issues with these humidifiers. They also have an outdoor temperature sensor to limit the humidity when necessary.
I do like automatic things. But Im fine with the manual setting, Maybe because I keep track of weather in Canadian winters. So if I see the cold coming, I turn the dial down. And when it warms up, I adjust as needed.
The nice feature of the automatic is that is constantly adjusts to keep up with the temperature changes. Your way sounds like it works well for you, so don't change a thing.
@@TrolleyBrothers Very true, and maybe if I was installing from new, I would go that route to. Im also a homeowner that checks on his HVAC more than most people, so the manual way is just part of a routine if needed. The one part I like about manual is when you have a heavy footprint of people in the winter. Large gatherings, more cooking, more bodies making humidity. Family staying over, more showers, more everyhting that creates humidity. If you have an automatic one, it will just adjust humidity based on the outside temp, already adding to that traffic. Manual, if I know a lot of people are coming over for the day or evening, or weekend, I can turn it off, or down.
Actually the automatic control checks the outdoor temperature and also the current humidity by running the furnace blower, then decides if it needs more humidity. So this control would take into control the additional showers and traffic automatically.
I've got a brand you Model 600 and I see that most of the water going to the drain, the pump goes every 3 min when the humidifier is on. The specs call for 0.7 gallons/hour, I don't see more than 1-2% increase in the humidity in the house, but I see 20oz wasted every 3 minutes. The heating cycle is about 10 min long, twice an hour. The filter is brand new, the tray is leveled, I'm just running out of ideas, what do you think, thank you.
hi, thanks a lot for the video. the plumber who installed the Aprilaire humidifier 600 for us connected ot to the cold water supply instead of hot. Do we need to change it to hot water? thanks!
Hello there! First, thanks for the video. Second! I have a few questions. Mine has a dial switch above with different percentages. Does that mean mine is not automatic, so I always have to adjust? Also, during the winter, do I want a smaller percentage or higher compared to summer? Please and thank you!
It does sound like you do not have an automatic unit. The percentage will change with the outdoor temperature for avoiding condensation on your windows. Most people do not want to humidify in the summer. I would recommend an automatic control with the outdoor temperature sensor for ease of operation.
Hello- I’ve switch my pipes from steel to pex and I’m getting around to re-connecting the humidifier. I don’t think I should try to use the saddle valve on my pex pipe, but could be wrong? Should I just install a tee stop valve instead?
Great video. I have this same system but some have any control at the humidifier. My system only allows me to set the humidity at the thermostat which is upstairs. Does that sound like a typical setup?
I have the same digital Automatic Humidifier Control unit depicted in your video. During summer months, do you turn the knob to “off?” From your video, I learned to turn the damper handle to “summer” in the summer months (installed in winter months and forgotten about until now… lol)
Yes you can do that, this should prevent the control from periodically running the furnace fan to sample the air and see if humidification is required.
Hey I know this is an older video but are any instances where the blower activation and controls are off? We moved into a house and have never touched the controls. Curious if we should set them to what you recommended in the video?
Does this auto humidifier unit truns on water flow each time the furnace is on, or does it only turn on when it detects low humidity? Reason i asked i recently got this installed and during my furnace run i didnt noticed any water flow but it worked when i did test/rest run. Please give your thoughts. If it is supposed to flow water during every furnace run then i must call the installer to fix. Plz let me know what you suggest.
My house is new having trouble with dryness. I have the dial set to 7 temp at night I turn down to 69 and daytime 70. Had a little condensation on windows yesterday morning. My humidity reader is at 38%. Should I manually set the system to 5 instead of 7? Live in Mn.
A little condensation is not too surprising, you can try adjusting down til the condensation goes away. Also if your windows are old and leaky that could be part of your problem.
Since you won't be using it in summer you can shutnit off or leave it on. It doesn’t matter. Just turn the dial down to off so it doesn't sample the air periodically for no good reason.
Greetings from Wisconsin. We bought an older house that has the Model 60 (it looks just like the 600). It ran fine last winter, but just as we were changing over to summer mode last April, we noticed the light was flashing change filter. It is now October and time to start it up again and I changed the filter. But now as I am trying to start it back up, there appears to be no power to the controller. I don't know when or how the power stopped but I cannot get it going again. There is a Test/Reset position on the knob, but nothing happens when I try to test/reset. Is there another spot I should be looking at to reset the power? There is no instruction manual to be found from the previous owners. Thanks in advance for any help!
Check to see if water comes out on test mode. ensure your blower activation switch is on, and adjust the setting on the control higher. If that fails, call a service company.
I don't have this exact model but a similar variation, and just changed my panels last night. I wanted.to point out that the water panel/filters often have a red or black mark on one side. That should be pointed up, in the frame of the filter. I believe that it allows the filter pleats to remain horizontal instead of vertical. This will keep the water in the filter until it feeds into your furnace intake. If you have the pleats vertical, I think the water will just quickly pass through.the filter and down the drain.
You are correct and I will add just this: "There is no front or back, but there is a top and bottom. Make sure to have the painted stripes on the humidifier pad facing up as you put it back in the black housing. Be sure to secure the top tray with the insert for the water hose facing you."
@TrolleyBrothers measurements of the unit are about 15 x 15 x 10 (inches) But measurements of the cutout (template) appear to be 10 x 12.75 (inches) or something around there. At least from what I have gathered.

When you are testing for voltage, does the control say that it is on? If no voltage, your control may be bad, assuming that the control has power.

Hello. Does the blower activation switch get turned on. I don't think I've ever touched that😬
Only if you want the humidifier to do that independently of when the furnace runs.

Sorry, another question, when I go on the site, it says their is options to purchase filters or water panels. Is there two separate parts?
In these, there are just water panels.

hi, thanks a lot for the video. the plumber who installed the Aprilaire humidifier 600 for us connected ot to the cold water supply instead of hot. Do we need to change it to hot water? thanks!
It will work with both, but it will work better with the hot water connection.

Yes, I would turn the dial to 4 or 5 and turn on the blower activation switch then see what happens.
How do I find out? What model number is my Aprilair? Mine seems to have these two protrusions at the front.
I believe it says it on the face of the controller if memory serves me right.

You my have a bad transformer if it is getting no power at all. I would call a professional if you are unsure of how to diagnose this.
I dont need to install the bypass duct if I mount it to the supply right?
You need air to pass through the humidifier, so either way you have to duct from one side to the other.

Not sure off the top of my head, a template comes with every unit, so there is no need to save them.
