My furnace has a A/C coil box on top of it. On top of the coil box It's L shaped plenum turning to the left. It's 14" high and 14" wide 24" deep. It has an 8" duct leaving the back to feed a bathroom and bedroom. The main plenum runs along the floor to feed the rest of the house. Return is right next to it. Do you think it would work properly in the 14x14 area above the A/C coil box?
Oh yea I installed my furnace myself back in 1999 then installed the Air conditioner and coil box in 2000. I just had a friend solder and vacuum check the lines as I didn't have those tools. So I do have mechanical abilities.

Hi Victor - Thank you for contacting Aprilaire! The manual control is a much simpler humidistat, but it has more restrictions on it. This control will only operate the humidifier when the furnace is producing heat, which limits how often the humidifier can run. The automatic control has more features for optimal control over the humidity in your home. This control will allow the humidifier to operate the furnace fan if there is a need for humidity. If you have any additional questions, we'd be happy to assist.

I recently had a new hvac system installed but after seeing this video, I noticed that my Aprilaire humidifier is installed in the return duct and not the supply duct, as well as the control. Is that an acceptable placement or should it be relocated?
This video is all about the installation. That's fine, but my question is: What about the results when you start using it. I've heard these whole home humidifiers help a little when using a forced hot air heating system, but they don't make a big difference. I would love to get some opinions on this. I can't take that dry air in the winter that emanates from forced hot air heating systems. Thanks.
Hi Peter - Thank you for contacting Aprilaire! An Aprilaire whole-home humidifier will help with the dry air you reference experiencing as it introduces moist air into the home with the help of the heating system. The Model 600 can service very loose homes up to 1,000 square feet, average homes up to 2,000 square feet, and tight homes up to 4,000 square feet. These numbers are based on the following conditions for your reference: (1) 20°F and 70% RH Outside Air; (2) 70°F and 35% RH Room Air; (3) Internal Moisture Gain of 1 lb/hr; (4) 70% Blower Operation; and (5) 8-foot Ceiling Height. Will i need to create hard-duct to mount this? T-stat wire will now go to this rather than to the air handler, and then from the aprilaire stat to the Air handler? I am curious why Aprilaire provides saddle valves ? My 30+ years of experience with them is they deteriorate over time and causes a mess. Isn't it better to use a ball valve ?
The work, time and cost associated with a ball valve can sometimes be prohibitive to some customers, so we include a cheaper option as well that in most cases works perfectly fine. If you have further questions, please give us a call at 1-800-334-6011. Thank you!
@@aprilaireco This makes sense.....but with saddle valves (primarily for refrigerator ice/water and humidifier) all of mine went bad on me after 10 or so years (and I have very high quality water here). The humidifier saddle valve that we shut off every season went bad sooner. It seizes up and the rubber basket also deteriorates and seal no longer works.. Professional plumbers refuse to use saddle valves. I've had mine replaced with ball valves several years ago and it's been trouble free so far. Yes, it costs more up front but the possible mess it can create down several years is significantly more than the $150 or so you pay a plumber to install saddle valves. I suppose it all depends your time horizon..
Saddle valves are the norm on most ice makers I've replaced a few that were over 25 years old and didn't leak I have had shut off valves leak at the packing nut
@@rkaraidos Thanks for your info.. I am a firm believer in ball valves though... Saddle valves are simply bad news based upon my over 20+ years of experience. It will leak or seize.
@@ptg01 the humidifier is only active during calls for heat, so there isn't a need to shut it off after every season. But you are right and most places around me it is code to use ball valve and some require an arrestor as well.
The water into the pad is flowing continuously. I've removed the unit to replace the valve and removed the copper pipe going into the valve and also the plastic pipe going into the top of the water pad. I notice there is a small yellow restrictor plug in the end of the tube going into the valve. I assume this restrictor plug is to reduce the water flow to three gallons per hour. What would be the results of removing the restrictor plug to increase the water supply to the filter? Wouldn't removing the plug increase the humidity in the home?
The yellow plug is a a metering orifice. If you remove it, the humidifier will immediately overflow and leak. Also, never try to clean the hole in the orifice with anything other than water. Enlarging the hole by even a few microns will cause the humidifier to overflow and leak.
To the people I’ve seen leave negative reviews because this system doesn’t come with everything to install it this is just like most everything you buy for a house it’s a universal fit there is no was they could possibly know what parts are needed to install it in your house. No 2 houses are the same. If they did give you every possible part you need to install this kit you would be paying hundreds of dollars more. On average you should plan on spending 100 bucks to buy the parts you need to install this kit. Don’t blame the company because you didn’t do any research and not for nothing with you tube it takes 10 minutes to figure out what you need.
Hi, do you need to connect the ODT wires to enable automatic mode. My humidifier has been installed in manual mode but it is the 600 model not 600M. Can I simply switch it to automatic mode via the internal switch?
Thank you for contacting AprilAire! You do need to connect the ODT sensor to the ODT terminals in order for the unit to run in Automatic Mode. If you were to switch it to the Automatic Mode without the ODT, you would receive an E3 error code, which means no ODT. The humidifier control does not function while in an error. For clarification, Automatic Mode does not affect anything in the humidifier's operation. It just adjusts the set point we are trying to reach based on outdoor temperature, hopefully to prevent condensation from occurring on your windows. If you have any further questions on how the humidifier control functions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us at 1-800-334-6011. We would be happy to assist. Hi Julian - Thank you for contacting Aprilaire! You do not need to use the Model 60 Automatic Digital Control. If you have any additional questions, we'd be happy to help. We can be reached at 1-800-334-6011.
Hi Jody - Thank you for contacting Aprilaire. If the furnace has a variable speed motor in the unit then the slower fan speed would affect the amount of evaporation occurring off of the water panel. The amount of humidity being evaporated on the Model 600 is reduced with the slower fan speed. We would recommend our Model 700 or 800 humidifier as they would be better options with that furnace. If you have any additional questions, please let us know. Thank you!
The only thing I see getting complicated for you is with the control unit and the sensor with all of the electronics within that. There is a bit of computer engineering that goes into the electronics.
@@m.p7227 of course, sensors are easy to get same with control board. I could easily program a microcontroller for input/output using C++. Humidity sensor is what I need to control the output. Solenoid valve is simple to find which will open and close water supply from main water copper line. ASCO solenoid makes ton of these. There are other brands out there as well. I could even make this so that it works through my phone app. It is the 21st century, these things are not hard to implement. Internet of things.

WELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL. you forgot a very important step that was listed on the sheet as step 9 and completely left out the video.... THE DRAIN LINE.................
All that water dripping on your floor can not be a good thing... Should I get a reward or something? lol
Thank you @brikk man. The drain is extremely important and will be addressed.
Just call them, and laugh at them like they would laugh at you if you leave it in Test Reset mode ;-)
@aprilaireco run it down the duct work to the drain I'm an hvac tech it's not hard

Is it necessary to connect the outside temperature sensor?
Hi Randy - Thank you for contacting Aprilaire! It is only necessary to install the outdoor temperature sensor if you wish to run it in automatic mode. If you have any additional questions, we'd be happy to help.
I installed this in my home, I noticed airflow leaks out through edge of closing front panel, so I have to aluminum tape around it.
And the water-drip grill does not stay in or lock in, it has tendency to lean to the front panel which will result in water leaking through the edges.
The bottom water drain hole water leaks too. This thing has full of issues.
Thank you for contacting AprilAire. We’re sorry to hear of the issues you have been having with your Model 600 Humidifier and would like to offer our assistance.
Leaking can be caused by an obstruction of water flow or when the components within the humidifier are not firmly in place and level.

My humidifier green led light does not stay on. I have done reset several times, letting the led blink 60 times, then turning the dial to 4 or 5. Led stays on for half hour or so then turns off. It does not light up again when the heater turns on. What am I doing wrong here? Please help. Thank you

How much water does this use?
Thank you for contacting AprilAire! The Model 600 uses 3 gallons per hour. If you have any additional questions, we would be happy to assist.
Does anyone know the width of the box minus the round duct opening
Thank you for contacting AprilAire! The product dimensions are 15.38" (width) x 15.75" (height) x 10.25" (depth). These dimensions are the Model 600 itself only and do not reflect the box it comes in. Does this answer your question? If you have any further needs, we would be happy to assist.
@@aprilaireco I’m looking for the width of the base of the humidifier. Not including the round part to the attachment of the round duct.
@@absolute7250 Thank you for your follow up. The base will use a plenum opening of 10” x 12.75."
The base itself is roughly 12" wide and 17" in length. If you have any further questions, feel free to contact us at support@aprilaire.com or by calling 800-334-6011. Thank you for the opportunity to be of assistance; AprilAire appreciates your business.
Where is the R & C in the furnace?
Thank you for contacting AprilAire! The R and C would be located in your HVAC system near your other wiring terminals. Industry standard wiring terminals would utilize R,C,W,Y and G. You may need to contact your HVAC company to determine where they are located. Thanks again for contacting AprilAire.
Is it true that the manual version is more robust and lasts longer than the automatic version of the 600?
Hi Victor - Thank you for contacting Aprilaire! The manual control is a much simpler humidistat, but it has more restrictions on it. This control will only operate the humidifier when the furnace is producing heat, which limits how often the humidifier can run. The automatic control has more features for optimal control over the humidity in your home. This control will allow the humidifier to operate the furnace fan if there is a need for humidity. If you have any additional questions, we'd be happy to assist.
Thank you for this video. My 600 control panel looks older. Inside it has a bypass / power switch. It’s currently set to bypass, should that be flipped to power? I can’t find anything in the manual. Thanks!!
Thank you for contacting Aprilaire! Would you mind giving us a call directly to discuss this? We'd be happy to help. We can be reached at 1-800-334-6011.
I recently had a new hvac system installed but after seeing this video, I noticed that my Aprilaire humidifier is installed in the return duct and not the supply duct, as well as the control. Is that an acceptable placement or should it be relocated?
It's fine on the return, it's just slightly less efficient. Control should be on the return.
We would be happy to discuss this further and can be reached at 1-800-334-6011 Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. CT.
It looks like the connection to the water line was left out either hot or cold and drain line.
can use hot or cold, Aprilaire claims hot water is better. d
Drain it to floor drain or condensate pump
So my customers units are in the attic, along with them having flex duct. He wants 2 installed. 10,000 square foot home. How many square feet of indoor home can 1 unit satisfy? Will i need to create hard-duct to mount this? T-stat wire will now go to this rather than to the air handler, and then from the aprilaire stat to the Air handler? Is the damper able to be controlled by the aprilaire stat? Seems you toggled it manually. You said H H is the solenoid control output, where does the wire travel from and to for H H?

Does the (summer-winter-summer) inlet side connect to the return duct?
Hello! Thank you for contacting Aprilaire. If you could give us a call directly at 1-800-334-6011, we'd be happy to address your questions.
This unit comes with a transformer...Why? Don't you just get the 24v from the furnace?
Great question. This is included for situations where you can not connect into the furnace.

Transformers have a VA rating to them. They’ll fail if they have too much current moving through them. It’s possible that your current transformer is unable to support the extra equipment.
My unit caused mold somehow. Maybe I wasn't educated enough. I don't know.
I am considering removing my Aprilaire.
Should I seek and consult professionals for help? Why mold?
Thank you for contacting AprilAire! Generally with mold growth, it is seen due to an incorrect installation or application. We would recommend contacting our support team with any questions at 800.334.6011 and reaching out to a local HVAC contractor if needed.

What if you live in a place with low humidity in the summer? Can I leave the damper open on winter all year?

Saddle valves are the norm on most ice makers I've replaced a few that were over 25 years old and didn't leak
I have had shut off valves leak at the packing nut
@@rkaraidos Thanks for your info.. I am a firm believer in ball valves though... Saddle valves are simply bad news based upon my over 20+ years of experience. It will leak or seize.
@@ptg01 the humidifier is only active during calls for heat, so there isn't a need to shut it off after every season. But you are right and most places around me it is code to use ball valve and some require an arrestor as well.
What if you don’t have humidifier at your furnace. What will happen to you your home?
Hi Mark - Thank you for contacting Aprilaire. Could you give us a call directly at 1-800-334-6011? We'd be happy to address your questions!
I am here because I am more worried about the power connecting part. Video did not show that part at all.
Thank you for contacting AprilAire! Would you mind giving us a call at 800-334-6011? We would be happy to assist you with this.
Thanks again for contacting AprilAire.
Do you have to use the April aire control board that gets mounted to the duct? Or can you have the humidifier wired to a wall humidistat in your home?
Hi Julian - Thank you for contacting Aprilaire! You do not need to use the Model 60 Automatic Digital Control. You can have it wired to the wall humidistat - just make sure you are using a transformer in that circuit to provide 24V directly to the solenoid. Does it work on the model Max Air 100e furnace?
Hi Jody - Thank you for contacting Aprilaire. If the furnace has a variable speed motor in the unit then the slower fan speed would affect the amount of evaporation occurring off of the water panel. The amount of humidity being evaporated on the Model 600 is reduced with the slower fan speed. We would recommend our Model 700 or 800 humidifier as they would be better options with that furnace. If you have any additional questions, please let us know. Thank you!
Play at 1.5x speed... thank me later...

$300 bucks for this basic product? Omg, I could easily build this
The only thing I see getting complicated for you is with the control unit and the sensor with all of the electronics within that.
Yea but its more efficient to just buy this thing. The time to get all your parts and putting them all together will surpass the time to just make a few bucks lol
Hope that's the install price, these units are only $175.
