      Worst case scenario, the Guardians didn't particularly do anything...instead, it was the flying Divine Beast that did it. Makes sense considering that the attack came from above. Any regular Guardians could've been at the base of the hills waiting for any possible fleeing villagers to pick off like leftovers in the ensuing chaos.

    Whenever I play a game set in post-apocalyptia, I always enjoy traveling to long abandoned areas and discovering the story of what happened there
    It makes you realize that there were actual (well, digital, but still) people who lived there; people who had lives of their own and went about their day until The Big Thing happened
    The past lives on in you, and it leaves a heavy mark that doesn't go away when you move on to the next location. Their story gets told, and I always hope that it helps them be at peace, even if they're just pixels on a screen

    Deya was my first “find” in BOTW when I left the Plateau. The tree sucked me in, and I had to follow it. Cresting that hill in the middle of the night and seeing the charred ruins of that town spread out at the bottom in the moonlight literally knocked the breath out of me. For some reason, it drove home the Calamity concept in a way nothing else had. The little houses reminded me so much of Kakariko in OoT that it was EXACTLY like the feeling I got coming out of the Temple of Time in that game as an adult for the first time. It was like a punch to the gut. Your story only makes it sadder. Brilliant work, guys!

      I understand the calamity pretty much immediately, but I had a similar experience upon finding Fort Hateno. It's a sad enough experience, exploring a military fort. Even if they won the war it's sad, because people still died. But the abject horror of their charred wooden barricades, guardians, guardians I already knew were powerful and sick weapons of carnage, just ten feet below. And then talking to a traveller nearby, and he says "this is where Hyrule's last champion fell." how my heart dropped when I realized, that was me. I died here.

    The Creating a Champion Book explains what happened here. This village and the lake were separate during the time of the Calamity. The villagers couldn’t see what was going on in Central Hyrule, and didn’t know there was any danger to run from until the Guardians crested the Hills of Baumer. The destruction caused the remains of the village to eventually be swallowed up by Deya Lake and become the marshland we see now. The map for AoC just wasn’t updated except for the village names.

  • @kenny3949
    @kenny3949 3 ปีที่แล้ว +29

    The water level might be explained by water drainage. The Dutch used windmills and other contraptions to drain swamp lands for farming. It might be that the villagers of Deya drained the water to make clear land for buildings, while depositing the water in the lake to keep it deep enough for fish. With the villagers gone and the tree blasted down, there would be nothing keeping the water from reclaiming the land

    I actually think we are looking into two different problems that this village went through. I believe the village got destroyed initially by guardians, yes, but I don't think the guardians caused the flood or tree to fall. There are key details on the tree that hint away at how it fell. We already theorized that the stone talus came as meteors as we can guess due to the Gisa crater. So, if you go up to the tree, you will find that it has 2 holes on its base. One big one on the opposite side of where it fell and a small one facing the village. Maybe a stone talus just impacted the tree like a meteor, knocked it over, this tree actually broke some sort of small dam, flooded the town that was already probably destroyed. The stone talus could have maybe landed years after the guardians passed. If you check the other smaller hole on the base of the tree, it actually has a perfect trajectory leading to the stone talus. Maybe after landing the stone talus, broke out of the tree that way, rolled down the hill, and took his rest at the center of the town. There is even a second smaller tree (where the korok is found) that is destroyed along the way, showing that something else came tumbling down this way strong enough to break a relatively above average-sized tree.

    Something I've always kinda wondered about was what kind of damage PEOPLE themselves might have caused. History supports the fact that when everything hits the fan some people see it as a opportunity to get by with horrible acts because of the lack of law enforcement available. One example is the yiga clan. But, what about 100 years ago before the population was thinned. That small window of time probably had prisoners escaping and people that was always internally bad taking that opportunity.

    There are so many places in BOTW that I would love to see in their prime. AoC gave us a little taste of that, but there are still more areas that I dream of seeing restored. I hope BOTW2 shows us a Hyrule in the process of healing and being restored. I also wouldn't mind if BOTW2 made Zelda a little more RPG-like, while still having that open-world freedom and fantastical Zelda feeling.

    Hmm. The attack from above had me thinking it might have been flying guardians destroying the village. Why should they do this? Well in the video they explained why guardians might have come from this village to fort hateno. But i think guardians might take the easiest way to thier target, in this case fort hateno, and that would probably be through dual peaks mountain. Yes a few might have done some damage to deya village, but the most damage would have been done by flying guardians. They are more mobile than stalkers, they can fly and find thier tagets that way and take them out. But why would they go there? Well maybe ganon wanted everything near the castle destroyed, and deya was just too close. He sent flying guardians to obliterate that village and all his inhabitants.

    • @azuzziken
      @azuzziken ปีที่แล้ว +2

      My thoughts exactly. In the game they described how Dueling Peaks was a bit of a bottleneck for the flow of Guardians, but Skywatchers can just fly around them, and it would make sense for them to spread out through the lower ground to the sides of the DPs than venture through the canyon and risking damage to their propellers because we know how windy it gets in there. It would be easy for them to spot Deya Village on their way to Fort Hateno and drop an aerial attack on the way, which would also explain how the villagers didn't even damage a single one.

    Remember. This game alone includes at least 10000 years worth of history...and people still lived in villages like these.
    This is the only gripe I have with this game. It's like the people in Hyrule are stupid, they have all this Sheikah technology and they can't seem to find a way to improve anything but their defense systems.
    Shit, Link did more with Tarrey Town in a matter of weeks/months than the Kingdom did in 10 thousand fucking years.

    • @candyzombiee
      @candyzombiee 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      idk, i kinda get it? most technological advances were made after the sheikah unified with the royal family again after being forced away. most tech and shrines were being excavated just like the divine beasts and everything else. the way i see it, the 10,000 years past war was a veritable burning of the library of alexandria for hyrulians and with the other inferred wars with monsters and possibly other kingdoms after all that time it would delay technological progress. idk though, just a theory and how i prefer to think of it.

    Ok, this has nothing to do with this but, while watching the video I was playing hyrule warriors, so I went to the map and see the adensa village, and in there it’s a recipe and also an upgrade for terrako, and (at least in Spanish) the upgrade (when finished) says “atrás ir al lugar que te indico el anciano de la aldea adenya, encontraste unas piezas muy prometedoras. ¿Como lo supo? Quizá sea realmente un vidente...” which in English say “after going to the place the old man of adenya village told you, you found some good pieces. How did he knew it ? Maybe he truly is a fortune teller...” maybe that can relate with the fortune teller that said Everything of Ganon’s return. (If it’s not Astor) It may be a coincidence, but the three dots at the end are kinda sus...

    Something that occurred to me last time I was in Deya Village was that maybe the Talus was always there? Maybe it had been buried in its descent to Hyrule (it *is* in a hollow which could hide an ancient impact crater, I suppose...) but the Guardian assault woke it up violently (which might explain the boulders in that one house).
    My best guess about the big log, though, is that the giant tree was felled long before the Calamity. It just doesn't seem likely that a tree that massive would rot out that much in only a century. Then again, I'm not a scientist who's studied the rate of decay in megaflora in a moist, temperate area, so I don't actually know. I just know that there are submerged houses that are about a century old in my state, and they're in way better shape than that tree.
