welcome to malaysia.. again.. btw who says ur pronunciation of ‘roti canai’ is wrong.. i thought it was gd.. even some of ur malay was impressive… just ignore those with unnecessary comments… hv a safe travel throughout india…
I can’t fathom driving in India 😳 Props to your bravery. 👏🏼
I just did it on a motorbike
@@MadDogAdventuresHorrible 😂
@@aegontargaryen6028with the amount of comments you’ve left about how amazing india is, the only one coping and seething here is you bud
@@aegontargaryen6028Of course by Excessive Population and Large Land Mass!
I drove to Nepal, via India, from London in the 70s. Drove all over India. Wild camping, in tents, most of the way. I always say, if you only ever visit one country in your life, it should be India.
Robert Louis Stevenson would have spelt traveler as traveller!
Water. Be very careful what kind of water you drink in India. Only drink from "unopened bottled water/soda/fizz whatever" and do not put in ice in your drinks. Spent 1 week in the toilet after drinking water from a carafe in a restaurant
Be sure the bottles have not been refilled and sold again with untested water!
Or boiling hot chai
@2010katak really ??? Wth
@keangwooichoo6138 that would be absolutely safe.
Sounds awful.
When this is all done, please do a video ranking countries based on difficulty to drive in. I think all of us would be extremely interested in your observations. It's so hard to find anyone that has such a depth of experience.
That might be fun to do !! Thanks for the idea 😉🙏💃
Good luck driving in India...Traffic is MAD. Salute Marion for driving in India
I just finished watching a couple from Germany explore India. At the end of 2 weeks, both were mentally exhausted from the sounds and crowds. They walked and took transportation. This should be entertaining going forward. 😁
What is the german couple yt channel?
Watch marc travels he's germen😂😂
Marianne you are an excellent driver so if anyone can drive in India it’s you. We’ve been to India twice, like you, our first reaction was shock, but once you get into the swing of it, I’m sure you will love it. The colours are amazing and the people so welcoming and friendly.
We joked that India will be lovely when it’s finished… as you venture onwards through India you will know what I mean. I’m really looking forward to your Indian adventure. Hygiene is not really their thing so I’d be careful about eating meat in particular, delicious though it might be at the time it can come back to bite you a few hours later! We all went vegetarian for our trips. But as I love spicy food like you Chris I did love the food.
Thank you - we have both become veggie on this trip too 😉🌺 and we have realised that Kolkata is a very special and unique place .....
It's India! Stay strong. Always drink bottled water. Never take your change back without waiting. It's a life changing experience.
Well, There are RO Water Stations in most big Indian cities where you could pay Rs 5 and get 20 Litres of Water. But not sure if those exist in Kolkatta, It is one of the most backward states in India.
@@hindurashtra63 do you know what kind of treatment they use there?
@@danieleverywhere132their sewage is not treated nor is it modern, so I doubt the drinking water is any betters they don’t have the infrastructure to accommodate the people they have there. You’re either rich or poor, the middle class has been deleted.

What do expect. I have been to India many times and absolutely love the people, culture and the country. It is a beautiful country
I couldn't do any cities in India. I'd absolutely go crazy over the poverty, and noise.
They love honking
@keangwooichoo6138 the pointless honking. Lol
@@jasonbradley4801 damn bloody rude in my culture (malaysia).

My experience with India is, look for chain hotels. They have a reputation to keep. Good to see you there. Prepare yourself for the traffic
You mean OYO
i'm one of your followers , hope u have a safe journey in India
I admire how you two never get jaded by continuous travel. You just might be the most resourceful and persevering travelers on TH-cam. Arriving in the otherworldly landscape of Kolkata promises to be the start of an especially interesting leg of your journey.
Thank you 🌺
India first went there in 1991 and last time was 2018 had some amazing times there traveling from the North Himchal Pradesh to the South ,Amazing place
I’ve travelled across India numerous times including by local bus. At first it’s a big shock to the system, and your first experience was exactly the same as mine although my accommodation was much worse.
After that I adapted and never had reason ever again to find fault.
It’s such a rewarding experience and the people lovely. You’ll love it.
Odomos mosquito cream was sent from heaven. Nothing better.
Not everyone is lovely there, in fact there are many dangerous people out there...bcuz recently a Spanish couple who drove across India by motorbike were assaulted & the the wife was raped by several individuals.
One thing from the street venders you can trust is the Chai. It's always boiled.
If you want and tell people to go away, you must waggle your head, otherwise they don't understand you :)
Yep. Absolutely correct.
Very true! The only street vendor drink I had was masala chai. No problem
Loved India, stayed in a homestay in Kerela, hired a car in 2011 there were very few direction signs and no electronic maps, asking for directions interesting as pointed in both directions in an effort to please us! roads pretty manic.
Sounds lovely we are excited to see the real India - our route is Kolkata to Jaisalmer and beyond ... 🙌
@@TREADtheglobe you are in for a pure treat. I've done most of that road. Jaisalmer fort is a unique beauty you need to allow time to soak in. I spent 4 days and didn't tire of it, personally. I hope you're stopping in Agra and Jaipur at least. The road runs through the great Thar desert. This is no joke. It's a wilder area. Some roads if you travel near dark there are bandits who will 100% kill you not just rob you. Don't stop for someone. They take their role as bandits very seriously and won't be brought off or placated. In fact they find the attempt insulting according to my guide. If you are caught offer to join them is apparently the only chance you have. Then you hope for a police or military rescue. I think there is a movie about a woman who survived this by doing so. Not fiction, but hopefully the situation has changed for the better in 10 years.
Sunroof? Close it if you don't want a big cat jumping in if you drive under trees. Plus the desert? If you break down it can be life-threatening. So those are major risks. The experience? My lifetime best. Carry a huge supply of bottled water and drink it. Double or triple the amount you think you need to carry. Have food on board. Make sure Trudi is tip top for sand. Sometimes it gets swept across the road. Roads can disappear entirely. If possible, again, a local guide is valuable. Mine took me to an amazing ruined temple in the jungle between Udaipur and Jaipur. Not signposted at all. Just phenomenal, like being on an impossible movie set in real life, and it was just us. Please do small legs as this allows you room to recover when things go wrong and to be in great shelter before late afternoon and after early morning. Plus, this is a time and place to smell the flowers and soak it in. It's very much once in a lifetime. Go for it! 😀 You could visit the Tiger reserve.
I loved visiting India though never got to Kolkata. It is a country of extremes and that includes people as much as places. My abiding memories are all of supreme kindness & generosity. A tuktuk driver who recognised me from an earlier journey & rescued me when I had an ill-advised adventure late one night with no plan on how to get back to my hotel. He even refused to accept the fare as I had given him a tip the last time. Enjoy the ride, it won't be dull!
The first time I was in India was in the early 1980’s, I also arrived in the early morning and saw people sleeping by the roadside outside the airport in Delhi and near my hotel at connaught place. Years later on my second visit, India has developed tremendously and I bet things will get even better in years to come. Love the adventure India has to offer, from
KL, Malaysia
Do you know why all these people follows you and watch you ?
Because non of us can do what you really do !
I've always say't.. "You are Heroes"
In 2007 I traveled across India mainly on the train I was there for about four months and when Ieft I flew into to Bangkok I couldn't believe how modern Bangkok was but my time in India was amazing I hope you enjoy your travels too good luck.
WHAT AN ADVENTURE!. Looking forward to the next video. Take care both of you.
Hi, yes arriving in India looked like a different planet from Malaysia 🤔 Hopefully everything will go according to plan for you and no damage to dear Trudy. Safe travels, you’re both awesome in my book ❤❤
Exciting part of your journey... nothing compares to India ❤Tip: Make sure you say 'NO' to hawkers, if you say maybe they take it as a yes. Btw it gets up to 55C in central I dia but it's a dry heat so more bearable.
I’m remembering the India I saw in 1976. It hasn’t changed much! We traveled around India with our own sheet to handle the dirty sheet problem at hotels. It was a pain to wash them because most laundry were hand washing affairs.
Do you still have the Kohinoor that's you steal, robbers😂😂
india is not for beginners but the people are so good they will always help you , Welcome to india ❤
help lol? u mean pretend to be nice then ask for money after
won't even give clean bed sheet after paying them.
Beginners??? This couple is highly expert about van life.
@@erkanduruk- Not for them. I think the OP is warning the viewers.
I am from India. My first comment, Kolkatta, was a wrong choice. You should have used Chennai as a port of entry and also to ship your van. Your experience would have been much different. I don't know how you plan to travel out. But Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Gujrat, and Rajasthan onwards towards the north would have taken you through a better experience, both driving as well as places to see. I presume you either plan to drive into Pakistan or ship your van once again to Iran or other countries in that region.
Hi - I think you are right !! Kolkata has been a baptism of fire indeed 🙏 But we are often only given certain choices when shipping and it is not always possible to go where you want - but where the logistics of shipping allow - This expedition has always been about driving around the world and getting from the UK to UK - but as you can imagine the world and routes have been very fluid since 2020 with permissions and borders etc. Kind regards Marianne
No difference, as a whole, India is dirty, unhygienic and poor infrastructure.
Where are you storing the wood portion? You have such little space
Your travel is really inspiring. I was a silent observer since driving in Malaysia. Both of you are such a loving travelling couple. I enjoyed your travel in Malaysia and the correct Roti Canai pronunciation. So much of info. Kudos to you and Marianne on your next leg to Kolkata India. I haven't been there yet. Waiting for your exploring of the mega city. Good luck!
i think this is one of the best view of india vlogs.. quite clear .. and fascinating
You guys continue to inspire … I think over the next week with a hotel base you will slowly slip into the Indian vibe …. Looking forward to your adventures there …
that bed sheet is an absolute nightmare. throughout our two months stay in India, we only encountered one hotel with such bedding condition with many 'stains' all over. we were ok with it as our intention was to find a room to leave our luggage while we went shopping and wait for our flight which was another 11 hours.
Always enjoy watching you both. I have traveled in India, it’s an eye opener culture shock…driving there good luck and be safe. New Zealand.
@@wingkin4No. Unless they decide to continue to Iran, which they won't, given what's going on now in the Middle East. That's why I'm sure they'll be on a plane to Istanbul or somewhere around there from Mumbai, with Tracy being transported by ship.

Wow very interesting video so far! Hope all goes to plan guys and Trudy arrives safely and survives the crazy street driving! xx
Hats off to you two , it makes me nervous just watching your films.
Safe travels.
We did the golden triangle some years ago, with a private driver ,roads absolute madness, on a dual carriageway, traffic coming towards us on our side of the road, driver said that was normal, another road had seven lanes of traffic going into one, lots of horn blowing, best of luck
Lots of horn blowing in Thailand? That's unusual. While Thais do blow their horns, contrary to the claims some expats make, horns are only used when necessary as Thais can run you off the road or point a knife or gun at you if you blast your horn too much. Seriously.
Traveled to India 3 times in the past. Never had a trip where I totally liked it or hated it. It was always somewhat OK, although I admit I was on business trips, not pleasure. I knew a bit about what I would be experiencing, so it was not a surprising. The best part was the delicious food. Indians do a Indian Food best, and it's a favorite for me.
I'm from Malaysia but have been to India quite a few times now just to wish you guys a goodluck and have a safe trip there !
I lived briefly i. Sri Lanka and my daughters ❤️ husbands family is from Siligiri NE india. I will go one day and eventually plan to spend many months at a time, too.
I simply loved India, hope you enjoy!
Thanks for explaining why you didn't come to Australia.I was so looking forward to you experiencing Oz.One day!!India is going to be interesting!
Thank you - We will be coming but we have a few plans first 😉🙏
You should also fix your Horn in Malaysia besides the air conditioning 😂 Horning is polite in India, it means “excuse me, pls let me go”😊
I lived for 4 years in Sri Lanka, absolutly loved it. I visited India for a week or so, never going back again.
Sri Lanka is different
We only visited Sri Lanka briefly, we thought it was a bit like India but cleaner.
If you go anywhere near Agra there's the most wonderful elephant rescue called wildlife sos, one of their recently rescued elephants is a baby called bami that was hit by a train.
Love, Love, Love all your amazing videos!!! May you both have a safe & pleasant stay in India. Safe travels as you take your beloved Trudy around the world. Sending loads of love your way❤️❤️❤️ Love you both.
Your hotel at 2am was reminiscent of my arrival in Beijing. Was a huge hotel but the all the lights were off and reception staff were asleep behind the counter. I had to bang on the revolving door entry for 10 minutes to wake them up! India can make and break a traveller from experience. It is the land of extreme duality but you'll get used to it. Safe travels.
Hi, I hope today is a good day wherever you are ! I'm so sorry about your bad experience in the first hotel, but so relieved the other one seemed to be perfect. I hope your stay there was in fact ok and that Trudy is fine with the upgrades ! Have a wonderful day !
I can't wait to see your adventures in India! Hang on and have fun!
I've only spent a few weeks in India. I got bored so I bought a bicycle and cycled most days. People thought I was mad. I just followed the locals, go with the flow - if that meant going down the hard shoulder of a dual carriageway on the wrong side because it was easier than crossing, I would. I found that whilst it's busy, crazy, at the end of the day, no one is actually out to kill anyone on the road! Take your time, go with the flow.
What lovely people who secured your van
I have been to the golden triangle. Delhi, Agra, Jaipur. We were with 25 people and we had nice hotels but about 20 people got sick. We never eat street food ! So be carefull .❤
Welcome to india
Delhi and Agra are the worst places to travel in India. Kerala, Goa, Ladakh, etc. are way better.

Gosh the bureaucracy and all the paperwork/visas must be so exhausting ! But you two do it with such grace 😊
My heavens!!!! the 1st hotel WAS a nightmare🥴 & my sympathies to your guys!!! Looking at the traffic, I foresee "M" driving skills will be tested to the limits!!!! Cant wait for next the adventure😍
The wildest part is that they just said no to clean sheets😮
They may not have owned spares or have in house washing
That probably was the cleanest bedding they provide as per the hotel standards😀
I so look forward to your videos come up every week. We miss here in thailand. Much love
Be careful with the bed bugs they might sneak into your luggage and later make Trudy their new destination
Another great video... better you guys taking me along!! So confusing and stressful!!
Iam looking sooooo forward to your experiences in India
Safe journey in India.. Hope you had a wonderful time in Malaysia. Thanks for visiting Malaysia. We will always welcome you.. 😅😊
good to see you again . will follow your progress .enjoyed this one very much .
I love India and have visited several times. It’s not for everyone, but I adore it. India is the only place I have ever had culture shock. I can’t wait to return soon, and look forward to watching your adventures.
With AC keep your barrier between cab and main part closed so less area to cool. We use a thick curtain, makes a huge difference. Stay cool!
Thanks for the tips! We have tried it and used it in the past but we are finding that as it gets hotter and Trudy is insulated for the UK weather the van holds the cool air in !! LOL - who knew
What a start to your India adventure! Glad you found better accommodation 😅 If anyone can drive those crazy roads, Marianne can! ❤
Thanks! 😃
Best of health and fortune on your new adventure in India may everything go swimmingly .but even if not may the problems be easily solvable.
This brought back memories of my first trip to India in 1997. And like you, arrived in Kolkata or Calcutta back then, at night. Felt surreal looking at the streets during the drive from the airport. It was daunting at first. And hated the massive crowd and dust. But the city grew on me. Despite the poverty, people I met were the nicest and most memorable in all my travels. And I grew to love waking up to the sounds of the hustle and bustle of the city. Stayed at Sudder Street 😊
Awesome video as always Chris and Marianne.Congratulations on landing in India 🇮🇳 can’t wait to see Trudy put her wheels on the ground in India. And can’t wait to see all the epic adventures all have in store. Thanks for letting us ride along with y’all on y’all’s journey around the world. 🌎
Thank you Christopher !! Trudy is going to rock India - I am sure 😉🌺
Good to see u make a friends with a local in malaysia.absolutely ur journey will easier
Nothing can prepare you for India . . .. . just be calm , losing temper will not help . . . . .and especially , very especially be calm when driving , do not expect anything like normal conditions , after one week you begin to feel more relaxed . . . .all the best and i really hope you discover magic of India . 👍
Just spend more money as u do in Europe and research properly. Everything else will be fine!!.
Why doesn’t India learn from other countries as to traffic management? Would save a lot of accidents and deaths.

They locked the hotel doors at night? Well that's a sign.....
According to a recent study by a Delhi University economics professor, India will be the second largest economy in the world by 2028. Is the India you have shown here true?
I relate to so much of this video, in the '80s I traveled from the United States to Malaysia and then to India for 6 months, I also arrived at 3:00 in the morning and stayed at one of the absolute worst hotels, it was frightening. The sheets were filthy and the surroundings were desolate. Imagine trying to navigate all this before there were cell phones and internet, and I was also a teenager. I feel this video!
Wowsers !! My Auntie Julia did an around the world trip backpacking in 1967 and she told me it was tougher to navigate without technology - but she said she is grateful that she didn't have to deal with the complications of moving a foreign vehicle across borders and all the visa restrictions .... but we are grateful to be on the road and to be able to keep going .... 🌺🚐🌷
I really enjoyed your journey through Malaysia and Thailand . It felt that l was travelling with you guy's. Especially the food.love you guy's❤.

What a stark contrast between KL and Kolkata. 😱 It's one thing to know and understand the wealth disparity, another entirely to experience it.
Speaking of contrasts, your move from the 1st to 2nd hotels was a huge upgrade, obviously. Yikes!

The refrigerant level in your air con should never be low unless you have a leak. Next time get the mechanic to check for leaks with a refigerant leak detector. It maybe a joint or a poor seal somewhere. Good luck

my dear friends, you are still on the roads. wow. Good luck.
Hi Your are so right about India, a place of contrasting lives and places. I've been many times volunteering with colleagues from the NHS. You are experienced traveller's so you know when your gut tells you something is wrong. A few tips, don't accept damaged bank notes and check for forgeries (200 rp) most common. The money is dirty, so sanitise your hands a lot! Driving at night is very dangerous, and forget the highway code! It's basically everyone for themselves. Any things goes. Avoid open shoes. The food is amazing, but be mindful of where you buy it from. Red tape is an Olympic sport in India. Enjoy the trip :) Can't wait for your updates. Have a great time. 👍
Thank you for this message - I did laugh out loud at the Olympic sport part !! 😉😂😂😂 Kind regards Marianne
Given all the instructions you have given, I don't think you are from this planet.. You are a human being, aren't you?
