We're having a party and you're invited. Want to come or want more info then watch this short video th-cam.com/video/mfDqPOau820/w-d-xo.html
We cant wait to meet you soon. Chris & Marianne xx🎉🥳
why analyse traffic behaviour? just go with the flow AND MAKE SURE YOU HAVE GOOD BRAKES!!
WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU HAVE AN ACCIDENT? IF YOU RUN OVER A COW, IT IS WORSE THAN IF YOU DID IT TO A PERSON.
ONCE IN A LIFE TIME EXPERIENCE: watching on YT a middle age english couple driving across india
bit late to have doubts at 21:32
@TREADtheglobe
Hello Chris and Marianne...since you are in India, try to go visit Pakistan as well...
If you enter thru Wagah border...the closest city of Lahore is the most historical. Northern Pakistan has breathtaking natural beauty...three mountain ranges converge in the north...the Himalayas, Karakoram and Hindukush. There're many valleys, lakes, river, orchards, glaciers, little mountain towns, etc.
If you go to the northern border with China...central Asian countries are within a few hours drive from there. Maybe you can get some kind of transit visa for a few hours, just to drive thru the corridor from Pakistan to a central Asian nation. Then you can continue your drive thru central Asia as you had previously planned ‼
I know its different culture and all that but driving in India just looks like hell on earth 😂
Hi guys, I am Amit from India. I really appreciate your decision/guts to drive through India. It is super hard, fustrating, mentally straining and super super dangereous to drive here. People/ vehicles/two wheeled motorcycles/cars/cows/goats/dogs/e rickshaws etc etc can literally pop out from any where on road , even from top of your vehicle also😂. people love here to overtake from ALL sides of the road, most preferably from the left and this becomes a very dangerous scene mostly 2 wheelers and cars. one needs to keep an eye on both sides of road (calculating and predicting the moves of the people standing on the edge of road) instead of focusing on the centre and traffic ahead. drivers here hava a very bad habbit of swaying and turing on any available side left or right without giving any indication (specially the two wheelers /e rickshaws and they do not regret their move at all). People honk a loooooot they simply loooove it infact they subconsciously honk it . (It is getting into our DNA now)😂. What i think the reason for honking is that the driver do not honk to make the vehicle ahead to move or to take any action, but to simply make him aware that there a vehicle at his back and not try to do any monkey business on the rod swaying, turing or suddenly break checking the vehicle behind. this honking has now become a defense strategy or a survival technique now. Pot holes can really damage the suspension of vehicle, do mark any repair workshops on maps for your route. Indian weather is unforgiving specially may and june in north india. Do not eat any street food or drink water which is not packed. I would suggest to get 5 to 10 L of water boiled for drinking at ur hotels. being healthy and keeping safe is of utmost priority. all the very best for the journey ahead. By the way do you have plans to visit kanpur en route. I live in Kanpur (uttar pradesh) love to have a 5 mins with you guys... stay safe.
Thank you for all of these tips 🙏🌺 kind regards Marianne and Chris xx
This is a total waste of time. Padhai likhai Karo or desh ka naam Roshan karo.

I'm not afraid driving in India...but I'm more afraid that if my horn is broken..
true
The "No Spitting" sign at the end 😂
I was just about to comment on that too! It confirms that you're in a high class establishment.
Marianne is such an amazing driver. There is no way I would ever attempt to drive in India and she handles those roads like she have been driving them for years. Stay safe you two!
OMG - we are so stressed watching you two navigate& negotiate !
Hats off to you both!
Me too, not my choice 😮
Thanks 🙏🌷
thanks for driving thru India, so we don't have to :)
We are excited to be driving across to Jaiselmer and then south to Mumbai to ship on as we drive / ship on to complete this expedition 🌷 so we will be showing more states in India as we go
@@TREADtheglobe looking forward to it!
@@TREADtheglobe Don't know about your time constraints, but if possible don't miss the south of India. Especially Kerala, my home state. It's back waters and hill stations are so beautiful and so is the food.
Every few hundred kilometers India changes. The culture, food, the scenery, everything changes. North has a different beauty , so does south, west and the east. Language, food , culture, scenery, everything changes.
@devanparameshwaranparamesh198 - we would love to one day but as we are on a deadline to get back to the UK for our charity fundraiser Dinner / Dance and after being on the road for over 4+ years doing this challenge - it is time to get home 😉🌷
Maryanne if driving was in the Olympics, you would take Gold…Well done… Great footage….😊😅
Awwh Thanks 😉🌷
I traveled in India in 1972. It hasn't changed. The traffic was scarey then too. You two are really troopers.
No changes since 1972 😯😯😯
You are requested to come again to witness the changes!
Of course, you have to keep in mind that you are coming to a developing country and also which is the most populated country in the world.
The lorries use indicators designed by BMW. Never meant to be used. 😅
A couple of weeks ago it was ancient oriental monasteries, lush green tranquil landscapes and spiritual walks up picturesque mountains. This week it's cows, navigating an asteroid field of people and tuk-tuks, honking and potholes. What a contrast!
After all this, city driving in the UK will be a piece of cake.
Mirror, signal, HORN, manoeuvre!
Depends on your location in the UK. There are plenty of food delivery drivers from India and other Indians who live in the UK who think they are driving in India.
@@aryan6536 Thats why our Councils deliberately excavate thousands of pot-holes for them, to make them feel at home.
My mom and I (she's 106) have watched you since the beginning of your journey but she was so worried about you in India she said she couldn't watch because she was afraid she'd have a heart attack! Lol !
Please do tell her not to worry 😉🌷
I always wanted to visit India but looking at where you guys are driving through I wont be there in a hurry
My bucket list just got a hole, this country fell out the bottom 😅
I've never wanted to visit India... and now I still don't want to, and I've been to Haiti, Tanzania and Cambodia.
Definitely not on my bucket list
Seems like gotta change ma priority
Both of you have chosen each other, the perfect travel partner.awesome couple.
Thank you 🙌 we feel lucky to have found each other 🌺
Loved how the camera stayed on the young man in the red shirt until he wrenched up the courage to look Chris in the face, and his apprehension melted into a big smile. 😁
Marianne truly adapted to the driving culture so quickly! Chris, as well. He looked a downright comfortable copilot.
A tollway penalty for using cash?! No "pay now cheaper" in India, I guess... 🤣🤣
I wonder how Ferris Bueller would fare in India. "Stop & Look Around Once In A While" is a great philosophy, just make sure you're well off the road!!
Really looking forward to next week's video! ❤️❤️😎👍xx
Ha ha - I love your comments ... thanks for being such a great friend to us 🌺
"Ninja potholes" 🤣🤣🤣 So funny.
Marianne, when you shouted at that lorry you were coming through😂😂😂😅. I'm impressed with how lovely the hotels are. Stay safe. ❤
Don't give up !! You can do it - just keep going !! It is not easy and until you try you can not understand the logistics of travelling, working and uploading whilst on the road - but we encourage you to do it and we wish you success on your TH-cam Journey - Kind regards Marianne and Chris 🙌🌺💪
I have to say some of the accomodation you have found looks so good & clean & comfortable !! I once had a thing about perhaps visiting India, however now i have gone off the idea 😅 you are certaintly two very brave people ! Goodluck for the duration & onward journey 🙂
I can’t get over the amount of garbage everywhere.
That was a shocker for me too, horns and trash everywhere along with crazy driving. Very unorganized is true.
And no one ever sweeping (or shoveling). Just walk right by…what a dirty place.
I have been to India as well. There is trash everywhere.
One thing that is interesting, I have seen some videos of Pakistan. It seems much much cleaner. Pakistan was part of India long ago, but it is much cleaner. Similar people but different outcomes.
But some young people in Mumbai are starting to clean up the rivers and ocean front. Maybe things will change for the better if more young people take pride in their country.
Corruption is one of the reason lots municipalities just award contracts to private companies and don't supervise them.
A bit like LA.
How did we end up driving across Northern Indian ?
Living life love ❤️
Precious moment .
Absolutely beautiful .❤
Awesome video as always Chris and Marianne. Those roads are absolutely crazy but Marianne is absolutely incredible driver. Thanks for letting us ride along with y’all on y’all’s journey around the world 🌎.
Glad you enjoyed it and thank you for coming with us 🌺
I met a nice family that cooked dinner for me on a dried cow dung patty fire. The bread was cooked directly on the coals! It was delicious. Happy Travels
Thank you, I had no idea what it was for.
I’m sure it had dungy flavor, lol
Thanks so much. This one brought me right back to memories of driving in India 60 years ago. I cheer you on.
Glad you enjoyed it - love to you both xx
Not always a fan of vlogs just showing the driving. But hey this is better than the 10000s of site arrivals in the UK.. you smashed it Marianne
As if the driving wasn’t intense enough. Watching an ‘edge of the seat’ show to relax.😂 Marianne has nerves of steel and a soft heart (giving flowers). Chris keeps us entertained with his narration. You guys rock! India the most spiritual civilization in the world. Amazing!
We have just had our first trip in our old/new VW van and inspired and excited by how you guys do it. We have had a blast. Love your videos.
Woo Hoo - That is great to hear !! Enjoy xx
Speaking of mosquitoes, I thot I noticed a mozzie flying inside Trudy on windscreen at about 30'.
Great driving! You may need to have Trudy's suspension checked in the next country you go to after this leg!
Chris in Thailand,14 yrs here, thought driving here chaotic,so love you both, your the best Marianne,so cool, calm and collected, does Chris drive? Best of luck to you both😘
Thank you for taking us along to see India. I know I’ll never have the opportunity to visit (not on my bucket list) but I’m able to see it through your eyes. What a busy, crazy, noisy video!!! I admire Marianne’s driving skills. I don’t know how she avoids all the bikes, buses, trailers, cows, dogs & potholes coming at her!!!!
A complete nightmare 😢
You've got nerves of cold steel Marianne! Awesome 😎
Hahahaha....that was one hell of a fun road ride and i have to say lovely Marianne passed with flying colours! She definitely rocks!
Having been through many of the states in India on so many roads I’m always in awe at how skilled are most of the drivers - especially given how challenging are most of the roads. Marianne, you make it look so easy to drive there. I’m sure it isn’t, but you make look like a breeze - the mark of a real pro. Happy trails. Looking forward to your next video.
One time in India I slept with my right foot not covered by net , in the morning I stopped after counting 200 bites
Great Driving in India. Chris and Marianne both of you very humble and down to earth people. I like the way Chris narrates all the happenings around very subtle and calm speaking. Didn't see him getting upset in any way. Very coool in every move. Hats off to both of you. Keeping going.
It's doing my head in looking at the driving, dip my hat to you both.
8:11 Background music ( Sitar & Tabla combination ) is superb 👌👌
You’re doing well guys! Pot holes, cows, tuk-tuks, toll booths - you’ve got them all!! You do keep calm and carry on! Impressive every video! 🚌🚌
I have anxiety just watching you navigate through the chaos... hope you have a safe journey... CrAzYnEsS
Wow! what a stark contrast between two most crowded countries, China and India.
I just came back from Chiang Rai and watched this episode. This is something else. This is adventurism that I don't need. Good on you for having the guts to do this and showing us the real India.
My nerves are shot just watching, preferred you not moving for a year in a car park in Turkey 😂😂 amazing driving Marianne,, nerves of steel!
What an experience 👏
Totally agree! But I'm glad they've done India so that I don't have to!!
Re your issues with the dreaded mosquitoes....try and get some mosquito coils.....they burn like a coiled joss stick...but the work...I used them in Singapore.. Malaysia...Sri Lanka...and Belize.....😊
Good choice of sitar music - set's the mood nicely. First class videos, many thanks for sharing your trip.
Well thank you for showing most dirty places in the world so I take it out of my bucket list
Dirty hmmmm. This is my BHARAT not your colony. Your forefathers were stolen wealth from everywhere of the world. Thieves.
Thank you for sharing your experiences. Safe travels!! ❤
I am impressed with whatever GPS Road Maps you are using! Gets you where you are going. 👍
Prior to my retirement, some of the nicest coworkers I had who were from India were the nicest people I could ever meet. Great privilege.❤️
“Fear is temporary. Regret is permanent. Adventure is taking a chance because it’s better than the question mark if you don’t.” quote from Dan Skinner. I assume your opening "Quote" is a variation on the original...now back to your video and India driving nightmares. 😉😋
Thanks !!
I love how you say hello to all the animals on the way😊 (I do the same) and your 'whoopsies' every now and then. I live in a quaint hill station in South India surrounded by tea estates and eucalyptus trees. I am amazed at your patience on the road... You probably would have found South India different though the driving is pretty much as chaotic... a lot more traffic jams for sure. All the best for the rest of your trip. 😊
😊 thank you - One day we hope to do the south ... Kind regards Marianne 🌺
Another gripping / nailbiting cross country adventure! I keep my fingers crossed you don't blow a tire on those awful roads 😝😵💫😵! Definitely upgrade Trudy's Horn: what about a really loud ship foghorn 😉? You can buy a Pop-Up Mosquito Net Tent which adapts to your hotel bed everywhere, they are cheap and can be stored flat. It saves my life when travelling in mosquito infested areas. I love your gorgeous red shirt Marianne! It suits you!
Did you catch the road sign behind the gentleman wearing a red shirt at time 4:08? The sign screams "run for your life!". Funny.
This is better than any British TV show .
Ouch..Oh how good to end with a lovely Hotel...Well earned.
You guys are awesome! Keep on keeping on! Loving the India content. 😊
You deserve a prize for driving Marianne. I follow the channel Those Happy Days, they travelled through India in a tuk tuk. I think they went across India the first time then south to north but it was completely different from the India you are seeing. Some places not so nice but most were really lovely. Hope you get to these places soon. I'm amazed at how lovely your hotels have been considering what you have driven through.
Thank you Anne - it has been full on fun that is for sure !! 😉🌺
Thank you for bringing along thru the chaos!
Despite having motorsport experience driving across Indian subcontinent is always a challenge for me. People simply point their vehicles in the direction they want to go. Like vignette in Europe we have fast tag here.
What an adventure you are having. Thanks for bringing a glimps of India to us. 🤗
More to come!
Emphatic yes to your pondering about writing a book!! it would be riveting to read! xx
Hello Ambassadors
I am amazed by the congestion due to traffic, street marketers and Marianne 's driving skills👏👏👏Boy, what a impatient driver behind you blowing horn ungodly! Jesus. He should have been a little nicer to the tourists who are visiting your country. Leave a good impression brother!!
Thanks for the video guys!
Love from Florida ❤❤❤🇹🇷🇹🇷🇹🇷
I love those short quotes at the beginning of each video.
Dear Mariane & Krist! I am really impressed by the video. It was full of humour. India looks like as if it is another planet. Have a nice trip there🙋♂️
Thank you !!
In India, all tolls are cashless since few months. So if you are paying by cash then there will be a penalty. To Pay cashless, you need to have a fastag sticker on your vehicle which will be linked to your bank account and the money will be debited as and when you pass through a toll booth. I am not sure of the formalities as to how you can get a fastag for a vehicle without Indian registration. If you get one installed then things will be very easy for you.
Had zero interest visiting India. Now thanks to you I have even less. Thank you.
Thanks, I'm sure the indians are happy by your absence 😂
@@IndiFornication Glad to make them happy.
We really enjoy your videos! This series in India is particularly fascinating! We also enjoy learning the different words people use arround the world to explain the same thing. For instance - in the USA we say "people are honking at us" and you say "people are horning at us" - Thank you so much for sharing and teaching us!!! XXOO
Heard of hooting the horn … honking the horn but not horning the horn!
most in UK say honking.
@@sjbicton Australia we say toot the horn.
Because they are really horny.
Do you say shopping 🛒 cart or buggy?
You have soooo much patience! 💖🌹
If you had passed through Bihar state, you should have visited BodhGaya. Bodhgaya is a place where Buddha got enlightenment.
Loving your Indian videos. Marianne, you are a driver super star. Thinking of when we were in Türkiye, a guy told us, that the name Dolmuş (mini bus) means full to over flowing. My goodness India takes that to the extreme 😅 love it!
Your are an INCREDIBLE team !
Your driving and filming are awesome !
I hope you are having a wonderful day. 😊
Thank you Alex, you too !! 🌺
Brings back memories (nightmares) of driving through Colombia. Washed out roads and thousands of motorbikes. Ecuador was a pleasant surprise after 6 months in Colombia 😂
You're edging closer to home now guys. We're planning on popping back in July for a month. Will be my first time back in 5 years. Imagining it to be a massive culture shock after 4 and a half years in Latin America.
India is an exceptional country, full of mystery and beauty……just as long as you know where they are, otherwise you must be vigilant and alert at all times. Drive safely and enjoy India. Since you don’t have any other choice! BTW, if you don’t Honk in India you’re unusual.
India is not for beginners 😂😂😂, the fact that you guys can keep calm and laugh... ❤❤❤
In India we are moving to a cashless based toll payment where you put cash in your google wallet or any other wallet. They send you a rfid sticker and tolls scan it.. if you wanna go cash it’s double. It’s a bit tough for foreign vehicles but we don’t see so many foreign cars in India so that inconvenience is there
We used to train people out in India, couldn’t get anyone to go there in the end.
“It’s almost like Tinnitus” 😂😂😂
Love the music that accompanied the video 👍
Fair play Marianne you are doing an awesome job of driving in that mayhem there and not hitting anyone but I am more surprised no one has hit you thankfully, keep up your brilliant driving and stay safe
The most challenging but equally the most interesting part of your journey. Looking forward to your experience of Varanasi, hope you got to see the Aarti sunset ceremony performance on The Ganges.
This is superb road trippin footage, well done to you both
I think we could all write a book, on this episode alone!....Like the last one, it's been an absolute thrill ride. And talking of "Stealth Cow" Chris, that should be Marianne's new nickname. She's taken the bull by the horn, and mooving through that traffic like a udder native. She's a fully fledged Scru(tinous) driver now!
Oh it's your hair grip!!! Relief! At 18.03 I could have sworn I glimpsed a tarantula-like thing on your arm. Must have been from the nervous tension I was feeling on that hairy drive HaHa
Ha ha !! thank goodness ... I read this and panicked !! phew !! M 😂
SO interesting! Thankyou and stay safe
Thank you 🌺
Marianne totally picked out the music!
And your driving. WTH
And I love Chris' laugh
Ha ha - thank you - it is in fact Chris who does all of the video production side of Tread the Globe 😉🌷
What the man at the toll booth was saying is the FastTag. It is issued by the Indian Govt. and is mandatory to be in every vehicle. It is basically an RFID tag that you paste in front of your windshield. The Fasttag has a wallet that can be recharged. When you are at a toll booth, you need not pay cash and the cameras at the toll scan the Tag and automatically deduct the money from your FastTag wallet. However, if you do not have the FastTag and pay by cash, you need to pay double the toll amount as penalty. For eg, if your toll is Rs.50, you would need to pay Rs.100 in cash. However, I don't know if you can get a FastTag on a foreign vehicle and recharge it if you don't have an Indian bank account.
This is like taking me on a road trip with you, sitting on your lap. Great. Sometimes I search the faces of those pedestrians crossing the road, or walking pass your van, and I wonder what is going on with their lifes. If only you can set up a chat with the locals, language barrier besides.
WOW! Following you on Google maps. India is more than I could handle. But: wow.
Love your videos. Cannot wait for next week. My dream was drive Durban to Egypt but unfortunately it is too dangerous. But it was a good dream. Africa is beautiful.
Do it.
Africans will always help you. Do it❤@@albertvandeventer8325
Just do it
뷰티풀입니다 it's beautiful life
Once out of the city/town areas, the country side is lovely!
When we first moved to South Texas and it was humid when it was pretty warm we would turn on our AC on full blast to make it feel like home
Brownsville?
Omg what a drive! India seems to be ones who have and mostly ones who have nothing! Love the sign as you went into the hotel "No Spitting" lol keep Vlogging stay safe 😊
Going to Varanasi from Kolkata you must have passed in or around the city of Asansol. Asansol is the birthplace of English pop star Cliff Richards (Devil Woman) where he stayed till he was 5/6 years old when his family of Railway employees migrated to England. He did come back to visit some time in the late 1970s after he had become famous. Cliff Richards is an Anglo-Indian which means he has at least one female Indian ancestor. The British had reserved jobs for Anglo-Indians in the Railways which continued for some time in independent India till they were abolished. This led to the Anglo-Indians to migrate to the white Commonwealth countries.
Fascinating journey. 😊
That's one word to describe India, chaos. It puts me off from even considering to visit. I might still visit one day if i have unlimited money with nothing else in life to do
Travel safe and take care!
Im kinda sad I just found you when the end is near! I must watch all the trip back. I think a documentary of all the best clips would be fun. Super proud of you guys representing UK in such a good way. I see how you deserved this journey. It makes me reflect on my own travels when I was younger. What a precoius experience. Get home safely.😋😊
The best videos were shot in Turkey, such a beautiful and fascinating country.
Welcome aboard! 🇬🇧🚐🌷
Splendid , spectacular and amazing ❤❤❤ enjoy 🎉🎉🎉
