So so helpful. You have made this video to perfection. I am understanding it a little better. Thanks so so much. I plan to play around with it more. Again, thank you.
I'm working on starting a t shirt company and I want to do all my basic/text only designs myself so this tutorial has been very, very helpful. Thank you 💕
I've watched five of your videos. So far I find yours the most helpful. Especially where you made Chip from Beauty and the Beast into an svg. Thank you for being informative, concise and bot annoying.
Thank you so much! I've been trying to figure out inkscape by myself to use with Embird and Scan N Cut Cannvas. Embird for my embroidery machine and the other for my Scan N Cut 2. Your tut makes sense to me!
The best beginner video of inkscape that I have watched. One quick question. I wanted to use path effects and I clicked on it but its blank. The square shown on your video with all the choices doesn't come up. Mine just has a + - Arrow pointing up and an arrow pointing down. Under that it says select a path or shape but none are shown.
Thank you Wendy I did something that gave me the outline of the circle and then I did what you recommended and now it's back to what it suppose to be. Thank you soooooo much.
Amazingly helpful video. You've really covered the basics and made them so easy to understand. Thank you so much for this - I feel confident enough to at least have a go now! - Ren
hi Wendy I watch all of your inkscape videos hoping to learn all that I can...is there also a favourite book or other materials that you turn to to get all of your great knowledge on this program...BTW, I love your videos!!!
Nope, haven't read any books about it. I started with videos by Troy Young to get the basics and from there I just keep experimenting to figure things out. Thanks for watching and have fun!
Hi. I am operating on windows 10. Can you tell me best way to crop a image with inkscape. I am in at the deep end at the moment. I am pretty much a beginner in everything right now. Its been a slow process. Am still old school with most things and I love to draw and paint. I came across inkscape quite by accident and realised how much I was missing out on. Its great fun.
Help out a lot bro only problem i am having is the work when i want to change the it to a different color and i combine it the entire logo i am creating changes color what i am doing wrong
You are the best. Love this video it's just what I needed to make some shirts for a birthday. Didn't know how to make each letter a different color. Would I be able to add a colored outline to each letter too. Thank you
Sure, just don't Union your letters together. After you turn the text into a path, make the shadow on each letter individually and then you can make each a different color :)
Wendy Edwards Hello, I'm trying to place a coloring page into inkscape and coloring but after I do the trace bit and fill color on some sections will not fill color stating "not a bounded area"?? Any suggestions. tia
Tracy that means the shape you're trying to fill has a break somewhere in the line, it's not a fully enclosed shape. You need to close the gap. You can add a shape (like a box dragged out to be like a line) or add a line and place it so the it closes your shape. Then you can fill it in. Or you can use the node editor and actually connect the nodes on both sides of the gap if that's easier.
Wendy, thank you for your easy to follow tutorials. I changed something in my settings in inkscape and now i can't draw a circle or a square. Is there a easy way to reset my setting to what they were before? Thanks for your help.
+Craftiness I'm not sure it will help, but I've screwed my own up pretty badly from time to time. Sometimes honestly I find it easier to just reinstall Inkscape being it's not that big, but sometimes this helps. Go to Edit -> Preferences, then expand Shapes. If you click on each shape, there are radio buttons for Last used style and This tool's own style. I read that you're supposed to keep them on This Tool's Own Style. The only thing I don't like about this is that it seems to default to a thick outline when you make a shape and you have to click the Fill & Stroke after you make a shape and drop the outline thickness to zero (unless you want the outline, lol). But try it, see if it helps :)
For some reason, my work shifts into a far corner of the screen. How can I bring it back into view on my screen without actually changing the location of the elements on the workspace / printable page?
Also when you were curving the letter I clicked Path, Path Effect - went to the right clicked on the +button and nothing came up (didn't get the window to add the path effect.
Once something is converted from object to path, it goes from being just writing or just a shape or whatever, to being a series of nodes, or cut points. Imagine your Cricut or Silhouette having to cut your design like it's a dot-to-dot. It has to follow the nodes along a cut path. Not sure if that helps, lol, but that's the best I can come up with :)
When you download a font, you need to open the file you downloaded, extract them (button on top), then click on the font file and click the Install button on top. Once installed, you'll need to close out of Inkscape if you're already in it, but once you open Inkscape, the new fonts will be in your list of fonts to use. Same thing with Design Space.
Going to try to explain this, but it's tough to describe. Click on the star/polygon and drag a star out the way you normally do. When you let go, there will be a small diamond at one of the inner points of the star. Click that diamond and drag it out - all the inner points will flatten out. Try it and let me know if this makes sense :)
Do you mean the black square outline? To hide that, go to File -> Document Properties, and uncheck the box for "Show Page Border". Just a note of warning on that, if you save your file as a pdf or export it as a png, only what's inside that box will be included in the image. If you save it as an svg it will all be there, but if you try to preview it or see in a browser, you'll only see what's inside that box. You can also just zoom your screen in enough to make it so that your whole screen display falls inside the box.
I have no idea what that is. Why/how are you opening Inkscape in a browser window? I don't understand what I'm seeing, lol. My Inkscape is an app on my computer, nothing I need a browser to open, don't need to even have internet to open or use. Are you somehow going to a url instead of opening it from your hard drive?
I am using a Chrombox computer. There is an icon to the right of the line where the https address is typed in I just click that and it shows another thing to click and then goes to the page but that box covers the page.
I have looked at so many tutorial, and they go so fast, I was looking for one done by a female bcause I know it would make more sence, And sorry guys women rule lol thank you.

Wendy Edwards thank you oh goodness I am new at inkscape but i will try. Do you happen to have a video on this?
I know i've done it in at least one of my videos, but I honestly have no idea which right now, I'm sorry!
I just downloaded the new inkscape and I don't have the same images to use, can't find "path" anywhere!! HELP
Looking for the easiest way to do mock-ups for embroidery designs on Inkscape.

Well done Wendy Edwards!!
when I click on the circle tool and click to make the circle it does not show up,what I see is a dotted square with an x in the middle, why?
Also when you were curving the letter I clicked Path, Path Effect - went to the right clicked on the +button and nothing came up (didn't get the window to add the path effect.
loved this! thank you!
How can I add a imagine , but add my own spin to it , I tried to put a imagine , but have word passing thru it
I still don't know what a path is, but otherwise Great tutorial. Thanks Wendy!
i would like to know that as well.

How do you change the font to use different font type from babelmap or character map?
NM I found your video about it...TY
Thank you Wendy, your tutorial is very very nice~~!!! I like your voice!!~~~ > v
Thank you for this 🙌
love ur video looking for something to show me insert those fonts i have downloaded

Why are my letters going into a mirror image state when I am curving them??? Halp!!!
I cannot figure out how to do a polygon which is on the same button as the star. Any help would be great appreciated.

The sound quality is terrible!!!
Other than the irritating background noise and scary loud coughs, a great video.
Who are negative souls for thumbs down? Its a great tutorial
thanks for the video.
To start how do I hide the DEFAULT box that covers the left side of the screen?
Do you mean the black square outline? To hide that, go to File -> Document Properties, and uncheck the box for "Show Page Border". Here is a photo of what shows up on the screen when I open inkscape it covers the left side of the screen. www.pinterest.com/pin/496662665144425178/
