2 things, don't forget the Freelander has a 75Kg roof limit when in motion, so don't overload it.
And when starting it, turn the ignition on and leave it for 5 seconds to give the glow plugs a chance to do their job! It'll stop all that chugging and wasted diesel.

Very neat idea indeed. A handy invention for those without an old Volvo estate! Those will take a 3/4 sized mattress, a small double, flat in the back with the tailgate closed. 7 foot long perfectly flat loadbed.
Brilliant, I can totally see the sense in that. Can't be bothered with tents but this is something else!
I think it could do with being maybe say 6 inches bigger all round, just to give it a tad more room, but fantastic idea for nightly stop overs...

So underrated the Land Rover Freelander great vehicle I had a few of them. The roof tent is a great option for the summer if you want to get out for a few days rest. Hope you have many happy holidays. 👍

Nice to hear your experiences with this concept. In my neighbourhood there is a Skoda Yeti with a roof tent and I always wondered how it would be. I hope you will take it on some adventures ☺️

useful addition, check out the Caranex awning if you want a bit more space when camping, combined with the roof tent- the ideal combination.

with all cars the roof bars weight limit is the dynamic limit .. stationary , the car roof bars can take about 1000 KG's

Not a keen camper myself but that looked fun.
Incredibly handy if you are at an event, 2 or 3 day vehicle stay will pay for itself twice over.
I would recommend a site with facilities, and shower blocks.,(And a close stroll to a pub or Chippy. ) Cheers.
Pub and clean loos were the booking priority for this trip!

Hmmmm that could look quite good on mine, just need the roof bars now, been toying with the idea of getting a Berlingo van and converting it into a camper, this may be a slightly cheaper option. Does look good on Hippo.
It'd be even cheaper to get an oldish domestic Berlingo and put the roof tent on that
Saw one of these From Decathlon on a German Hyundai Kona in Belgium, it was amazing and the couple who owned said that they slept really well.

These roof top tents are all the rage with the VW Caddy scene……they are huge in comparison the their actual stowed size👍🇮🇲😜💪
Great video. So glad you done one of these as I've been toying with the idea of a roof tent for my Freelander for a while now. What model Ventura is it? Is it the Ventura Deluxe 1.4?

OK- now having watched I now totally get the appeal of roof tents. Always thought of them as just a gimmick for the overland lot - but they do look to have some big pluses over a floor tent.

Awesome! You should consider going to the yearly LandRover Owner International Show! Its held over a weekend in Peterborough and its got its own camping area. No, you just missed it, it was last weekend.

@@furiousdriving I will DM you my video, (my family used to own Landrovers when we lived abroad many decades ago) there was a Freelander section there.
These are another camping option which are a very good idea can you get an awning that when the roof top tent is set up under neath the other part of the tent or material sides that can be fitted you should do a camping video with Hubnut with his pop up caravan camper and your dogs enjoyed them selves

Looks like fun, but how does it correspond with the maximum load permitted on the roof?
this is 45kg, driving limit is 75kg for stability; you could stand the car upside down on its roof without collapse (crash safety) so we wont bother it
I’d pretty much refused to go Camping again because I seriously cannot be bothered with the messing around putting the tent up and then back down. You generally might have found me a way to agree to camping again, the roof tent looks brilliant.
You must know the saying of never working with Animals.... they'll always find ways of showing you up!! 🤣 Still what amazing bit of kit that Roof Tent is, seen them used on another couple channels and they do get rave reviews for thier owners as well. 😊😊

Yes, great dogs! The little ones meant to be a cocker, turns out to be a spaniel based mongrel, the white one is a full springer, our second after the first who we had 12 years
You actually have come round havnt you……and ease of use, it’s a no brainier………certainly a great view for the morning cuppa, yes you need at least 4 gas cartridges for a day of cooking in those Stoves👍🇮🇲

I’ve seen them on Polos and 205s before, so long as you have roof bars I guess there’s something to fit (without it being too long or wide.)

Im not sure, Ive not looked at how the roof bars fit on an R50, if its on the rain channels I wouldnt trust it

I was ready to leave the tent in Scotland last time! Too cold, claustrophobic (actual panic inducing), a pain to take down and impossible to get back back in the bag -its still not packed properly! And worst of all are the mattresses. Air beds are the absolute worst, Ive never got through a night without ending up touching the cold, hard ground and the self inflating ones take an age to go up and a PITA to deflate...all in all not much fun..and I was ready to sleep in the car last time
@@furiousdriving Trusty old roll mats are what I use. An inch of foam, I can't be bothered faffing around with air beds and what not.
If there are 3 of you in a roof tent you really do need to open the vents to help with condensation.
It's virtually the same as Bob the trailer tents... Sorry what is it called....?? LOL
