I've cooked frozen and unfrozen ground beef in the 3 qt. pot and it is inbelievable. Delicious. Not too dry and no grease. I cooked a 1 lb. frozen tube of ground beef from Walgreens in my 3 qt. pot. I gave it at least 40 mins. to cook. That worked well. Another time I just cooked it for 20 mins. and then mixed it in an inner pot with other ingredients for another 20 mins. and that was a tasty treat. (It takes longer to cook in the 3 qt. because it uses less pressure, but I can cook enough for 3 or more meals.)
I just watched your video and tried your suggestion of cooking FROZEN ground beef in my Instant Pot Max. It works like a charm! I grind my own ground beef and I was surprised that the meat crumbled super easy after processing and I didn’t have to use the tool to break up the beef. Thank you for this video! Awesome information!😊
I dig it! The way I used to brown ground beef was to cook it in water, rather than oil. That way, the fat rendered into the water, which I just threw out. This way is pretty cool. Thanks!
For easy dividing, have a large sized measuring cup and open your ziplock bag in the cup and open the sides over the cups edges and it makes putting foods and stuff in the bag easier and with less mess.
Yes I couldn't find any recipes that Had fresh ground beef for the instant pot so I took a shot at it myself. We have a family of 7 and so we eat a lot of ground beef in a lot of different recipes so I bought a 10 pound roll Of ground beef cut it in half and cut that half into thirds I stood them up in the instant pot on top of the rack and added about a cup of water I cook them for 50 minutes 10 Minutes per pound and when it came out I just took it out and put it in a bowl and broke it up with a chopper once it cools I'll probly break it up more by hand we put it in the freezer and you can add it to spaghetti sauce or Raman noodles or put some on top of pizza it doesn't go very far in our family of 7 but when I used to do it from me and my husband it lasted quite a while in the Freezer.
Thank you thank you thank you...I had a roll in the fridge and I did just what you said and it came out perfect!.. thank you so much, this just made things so much easier for me.
Love this. Especially when it's pasta night. I can let the beef (& sausage) cook and then add to my sauce. It's a time saver, because I don't have to attend the meat. I can get other things done and basically assemble my sauce. Thank you so much.
This is a lifesaving hack! So much easier than doing it in the skillet. I like having cooked ground beef like this to add to quinoa, or whatever. I freeze portions to add to dishes later.
I just used this to brown hamburger for Friday night nachos for my family! I put the meat in my kitchenaid mixer and chopped it up, then added the seasoning and mixed that with the mixer. It was so easy! Whatever is left will go in the freezer, but I never know who my 16 year old grandson will bring along.
Thanks for sharing such a great tip!!!! Tried it for the first time last night before making chilli. This will be our go to way for cooking ground beef. Love how much healthier it is!!!
This is a game changer. This is great for my teenage daughter that is learning how to cook but can't seem to get a grip on cleaning up the kitchen afterwards. TY, TY, TY.

The sauté feature works great and adds tons of extra flavor to dishes, and I can easily sizzle meats in the bottom then deglaze for some restaurant worthy flavors.Big bonus - you can cook a whole frozen chicken in about 2 hours. Amazing! I've seen a couple videos, haven't tried it yet, but I will soon!
This is amazing! I can't wait to try it. And I agree the chop and stir is a must have! I use it for everything! Makes egg salad so easy to make! Thanks for making great videos!
I have used this to do both frozen and thawed and it worked GREAT! I did 25 minutes frozen and 20 to 25 minutes thawed just depends on how much meat I am doing. I also love that I can do it in such large batches it makes meal prep so much easier!
@@wilmasebastian2225 I honestly have never done just one pound before so I don't know. I am sorry. Sounds delicious and being a carnivor eater I love ground beef. Try putting your cooked ground beef back in pot, add cooked bacon and onions, add a block of cream cheese. And sauté together. I usually don’t drain my hamburger grease as it mixes in well with the cream cheese.
A good dish to make with ground beef is beef Rice-A-Roni and it is simple and I make it often for myself. You can make Chicken Rice-A-Roni also or you can make it with Turkey. My ground beef was frozen in a ball and was rock solid when I put it in the Instant Pot. I pressure cooked for 25 minutes, plus did a 15 min natural release. When I sliced the beef open it was still red and raw inside. I suspect flat frozen ground beef is best for cooking this way. By the way, I love your channel!

I have a question with using cooked ground beef for beef macaroni in instant pot. Do you have a recipe or long would I put the instant on for this? I love your videos!
What about seasoning? I am really excited to try this, but I usually add some seasoning when I brown my ground beef, it should still be ok to do that ...Right?
@@SixSistersStuff Silly question, but if we wanted to make taco meat as you suggest, would we just throw the taco seasoning in the water? Or on the meat? Or what? (Sorry I'm a guy and have only cooked 2 meals with the instant pot before). Also how time amount do you suggest for 3lbs of refrigerated beef? Thanks.
Wouldnt cooking the hamburger under pressure be an ideal opportunity to infuse seasonings & sauces into the body of the meat?? And possibly allow for an easier breakup after cooking complete?.
Is there a way to cook it with taco seasoning, the way you're showing here? Or would you have to drain off the juice, throw the meat back in, and re-cook it for awhile with taco seasoning them? Thanks! I'm a total instant pot rookie, just found out about them yesterday : )
You CAN just add the seasoning, but then you have the excess fat added to your taco meat. I cook the meat, whether by pressure or sauté, drain the liquid (so much fat!). Chop/Break up the meat. Add water plus a little extra, add the seasoning and stir well. Then I either pressurize or sauté to “cook” the seasoned liquid into the meat. Remember, you can always boil off excess liquid via sauté to get the consistency you want.
I'm a guy, so sorry if this is a stupid question... but could you also throw taco seasoning in the water here, and would that flavor it enough? Or how do you suggest making taco meat, with this method (ie. no browning the meat) just the lazy one step method? Haha. Thanks!
Way to go! You got this! Proud of you! Learning to cook is such a handy skill that you will use for the rest of your life, so you might as well start young!
WOW...I never knew the grease could be separated from cooking meat! Super great discovery-THANK you..I've never used frozen but will do! Is it possible to do the same with ground or would it fall through? Now back to your CHILI video....:) Thanks for the link here while watching that one! Thumbs Up # 2...a Definite #1 in my book!! ha ha :)
Too cool! Bet you could break it up with a stand mixer pretty quickly. I use mine for shredding chicken and roast pork and beef. For thawed you could put it in a steamer basket or small stainless steel colander. Or a disposable foil round cake pan with holes punched in the bottom.
@@SophieMia806 yes I place a colander in a bowl and pour the grease into that. The colander will separate the grease from the meat, then I pour the meat back into the instapot to finish it off by browning it a touch more and adding my seasoning for whatever I am cooking(taco seasoning, vegetables or whatever) hope that helps 🙂
1. What if I don't have the metal thing you put on the bottom? 2. Did you put the pot in slow cook mode or in high temperature? 3. I would put in on the pan afterwards and add onions, tomato sauce, garlic etc 4. Amazing video! You saved my life literally. There is no time to cook traditionally
a trivet should've come with your Instant Pot. I have 2 (Lux & Duo +) and both came with one. It may not look like the one in the video, but you should have a trivet of some kind. Contact the company if you did not get one.
Its hard to over cook meat in the pressure cooker because it cooks with pressure and steam so it makes sure everything is hydrated and never dries out.. I remember when i first discovered pressure cookers and its really like magic, things just always turn out great

I'd prefer the grease because fat isn't unhealthy (unless you're eating it with a bunch of sugar) plus it makes it much more moist and flavorful.
Flavorful is quite subjective. Regardless of if it isn't healthy or not, it's definitely not that tasty in high doses.
Totally agree. Too many people are addicted to carbs and sugar. Leave the fat in, your body will thank you.
It's ok to decrease the fat some in foods in order to be able to increase the carbs some. (I'm talking about healthy whole food carbs here)

I tried it frozen with taco seasoning but didn't put it on the trivet. It was greasy and the flavor was watered down. I like your way much better.
I'm addicted to instapot with u
It would be 25 mins for 1 lb of frozen beef? Ty!
Waiting for my pressure cooker to arrive and the first thing I'm making is this!
Yes! Yes! Yes!!
I've always cooked ground beef in my Instant Pot from day one!
Flyer777, I need your advice - how many minutes do I cook 500 grams of beef? I'm worried if I overcook I'll get the "burn" message. .
Thank You, God Bless 🕊️🙂
What about seasoning? I am really excited to try this, but I usually add some seasoning when I brown my ground beef, it should still be ok to do that ...Right?
Oh you bet! I was just using it to make lasagna, so I didn't really want taco seasoning in it. But yes! Go ahead and add some seasoning!
Thanks.
Gonna get a chop n stir. Instant Pot is mad simple yo. 🤔😎
I am going to try this. I avoid using ground beef because it's a hassle to crumble it and then drain it. But this will be so much easier.
Wow. This is amazingly useful. 😊🙏
Glad it was helpful!
Wow, very helpful! I would never have guessed it. Thanks for sharing!
How do you know it gets to the right temperature to be considered safe to consume?
Can you do fresh 1 lb HB in the instapot?
Hello I love your videos. Thank you so much. My instant pot is new & I’ve only used it once. Where do I find your FB link? Thank you 😊😀
Wouldnt cooking the hamburger under pressure be an ideal opportunity to infuse seasonings & sauces into the body of the meat??
U ever answer about different amounts and the time to cook?
I'm going to use my instant pot this weekend for the first time. What's an easy recipe for me to fix ?
I'm a guy, so sorry if this is a stupid question... but could you also throw taco seasoning in the water here, and would that flavor it enough? Or how do you suggest making taco meat, with this method (ie. no browning the meat) just the lazy one step method? Haha. Thanks!
New sub! Thanks for the info. I use the crockpot to make large amounts but I’ve never tried to use the IP. So thanks!
Could you use a steamer basket to do the same thing or is the trivet the best option for this?
in 2023 this came in handy, Thank you!
How long for 1 lb. frozen ground beef?
2nd sister? After this hamburger I think you’re the best sister. 😂
I just added the chop and stir to my cart.
It is okay to freeze cooked ground beef that was already frozen once?
I do it all the time it saves time and you just add it frozen to what you are cooking.
This is the first thing I'm trying, browning ground beef. Then I'll make Johnny Marzetti with beef & noodles all in same pot after draining
So I take it that it’s ok to stack ground beef/ground turkey in instant as long as it’s not fully stacked right over or does it not matter? Thanks
Works like a charm! It’s so convenient - thank you very much ! (Though this applies to all your recipes :)
How long would you cook the 3lbs of ground beef if it was NOT frozen please??
ahh thank you! i'm fourteen and wasn't really taught any cooking skills so i want to teach myself :)
Way to go! You got this! Proud of you! Learning to cook is such a handy skill that you will use for the rest of your life, so you might as well start young!
Thx wonderful video. I have the chop and stir. Your right it's a must have :)
You are so welcome! Thanks for stopping by!
Fast & Easy, especially using a frozen chunk! How did you get rid of the grease filled water? I hope you didn't pour that down your kitchen sink!!
This is amazing
Can you use immersion blender with the ricer attachment to break it up? I have pain disorders & it's so hard to break things up like that
For fresh ground beef I just use the saute just like if it's on a pot on the stove
What do you do with the grease afterwards? Do you still drain it?
@@SophieMia806 yes I place a colander in a bowl and pour the grease into that. The colander will separate the grease from the meat, then I pour the meat back into the instapot to finish it off by browning it a touch more and adding my seasoning for whatever I am cooking(taco seasoning, vegetables or whatever) hope that helps 🙂
Can you do the same thing with frozen sausage? Would be sooo easy!
1. What if I don't have the metal thing you put on the bottom?
2. Did you put the pot in slow cook mode or in high temperature?
3. I would put in on the pan afterwards and add onions, tomato sauce, garlic etc
4. Amazing video! You saved my life literally. There is no time to cook traditionally
a trivet should've come with your Instant Pot. I have 2 (Lux & Duo +) and both came with one. It may not look like the one in the video, but you should have a trivet of some kind. Contact the company if you did not get one.
I have a question is it possible to do ground bison on the instant pot and for how long ?
Its hard to over cook meat in the pressure cooker because it cooks with pressure and steam so it makes sure everything is hydrated and never dries out.. I remember when i first discovered pressure cookers and its really like magic, things just always turn out great
