Thank you for pointing me in the right direction. Took out brew group then blew out the machine with compressed air via the double spout. I was descaling the limescale when it blocked. (So now having a second descale) thanks again!!
Worked for me as follows. 1. Remove brew group. 2. Remove two star screws behind brew group to release the white piece. 3. Used allen wrench to remove spring. 4. Used a deck screw to remove the next pice and the black washer (black washer is small and easy to lose be careful). 5. Stuck a long thin drill bit up the shoot opened and twisted it. 6. Reassembled and descaled. Works perfect THANKS
Thank you, thank you, thank you! Your advice is spot on. Having serviced the brew group I was stuck as to what next. I did as you suggested and unblocked my Gaggia Brera; it's now working fine. I imagine the technique will work on lots of Gaggias that share the same brew group. One tip: I used a mirror and a torch to see what I was doing as the pipe faces downwards. Your English is absolutely fine by the way; the word you were looking for is "limescale".
Uuuuu I am so happy when you out there could use my videos and I could help! I am very happy that this is working for you and thanks for the mirror tip 😉 Have a super fantastic day 😉😊
Martin, thank you so much for sharing this video! I have just fix it in under 20 minutes. It's super easy to access that valve if you remove the 2 screws. There is also a spring and a black ball. So please be careful when you take is apart. Now is working like new! You really saved the day with this video! Just want to thank you a lot!
@@martinbankjorgensen I do not see how the valve comes out easily without dissasembling the whole machine. I can get the spout off with the 2 screws, but the valve is buried under cover and I think I need to remove the front and all sides of the machine to get it out (Brera)
Thank you so much Martin!!! You saved me from having to disassemble the whole machine. Getting the valve components out was quite fiddly, for others attempting this I would suggest using a 3mm Allen key for giving the first component the 1/8 or so turn that it needs to come out, then use a very small 1.5mm Allen key to jiggle the 2nd one out. I used my iPhone with flash to help me see what I was doing. Getting the calcium deposits out I started with a 2mm drill bit, then 2.5mm to finish off. It was incredible how calcium was inside that valve! Coffee is great, and the wife loves me again....!
Thank you so much Martin. This just saved the day for both me and my wife. I tried so many things but this did the trick. Tomorrow morning we will be able to get a good cup of coffee again :)
Thanks for this, I was able to solve the problem by accessing the spout by removing the 2 screws from the brew unit side and wriggling out the spring and valve (using an extendible mirror to see whats going on. Just a note there is a small nut behind the second valve that I nearly lost. I didn't see any deposits and my first test after reassembling everything had a slow, but much better flow. I was then able to put the decalcifier cleaner thru and then the de-greaser tablet and it cleared everything up.

The Allen / Hex key needed was 3mm in case anyone wondering. Also the other little 'guy' you have to get out had a little black plug washer in it which I had to fish out after the smallest piece. Then I fitted the black washer plug back in easily before putting back together. My model is 2011 Brera. I needed very sharp pointed end tweezers to get small parts out from a tool kit I use for taking laptops to pieces. Thanks again
Thanks again Martin, I was a bit confused about the word 'umbraco' so I watched the video and zoomed into the tool you used for removing the end of the white plastic. In the UK we use the word Allen key or Hex key and I have a set of these so now I'll be able to do it. I googled 'umbraco' tool and I confirmed it looks like what I would call an Allen key. There was limescale even on the outside of the bit I need to remove, we have very little limescale in our water in my part of Wales, hence without your video I wouldn't have thought of this. I don't like using chemicals in my coffee machine so from now on I'll ensure I use a Brita water filter to try and prevent reoccurrence. Thanks again , Cara

Hey Pete 🙏🏻 uh that’s a good question and I remember having the same problem with the machine. But I think it’s about eight years since I make this video, so I simply can’t remember the solution. Try to look at the rubber seal at the bottom of the water tank. That will be my best guess 😅

Hi Martin. Your english is better than mine and I'm your standard aussie male!! I love my Gaggia Brera coffee machine. I have the later model. It is turning on with the NO WATER warning light on but there is water in the container. After about 10mins it will turn on and work. But.... always water under machine that requires wiping up. Tray fills up a fair bit as well. Enough water to be a concern. Took it to my local repairer who said there was too much water damage to repair. Report from repairer: • Error light illuminates when standby button pushed. • Water damage to insides of machine. • Water has damaged main pcb, water tank level sensor pcb and transmission assembly. • Boiler has lime scale underneath indicating source of main leak. • Machine un-economical to repair due to extent of damaged parts. (end of report) So.... what's your thoughts as I've got the machine back to repair myself and its working just fine again? But there is a leak and its always clean water under the machine and fairly dark water in the tray.
Haha thanks 😜 I can barely remember it ( my videos is about 8 years old) but I do remember the water problem 😣 if the water have damage the PCB it’s pretty much done.. water leak etc is mechanical fail and could be repaired but when it comes to electronic issues, we’ll… I think your f@cked 🥵 Now a long shot….. try to clean the board with isopropyl alcohol ( that could rarely work ) otherwise I’m sorry to say I can’t help you :( As the say to expensive to repair unfortunately :(
My problem on this machine is when i press the on button to warm up the machine the rinsing water doesnt come out from the same sprout that the coffee comes out. It goes all in the bottom tray. The machine makes very good coffee but the bottom tray is always filling up with water. Do you have any idea on what is the problem causing this?
I did everything you instructed me to do. Tried to brew and no coffee came up, just leaked out the bottom. What is the next step in troubleshooting this?
Dear Martin, Firstly I must say your spoken English is excellent , very clear with perfect pronunciation. You referred to Calc I think you mean calcium carbonate also known as Limescale (I think). I have been using our Brera for two years making six coffees a day, recently the amount of fluid coming out has reduced and the coffee takes longer to make in it's cycle. I hope you don't mind me asking but do you think clearing the plastic feed mentioned in this video will help, I notice someone else has posted the same problem and I'm unsure which of your videos helped with this. Many thanks Cara
+MegaOJW Tank you SO much Cara! :) yes limescale was the word ;) i think this could be your problem. see the last end of my vid and i will explain how to clean it WITHOUT taking it apart :D You only have to take out the 2 screws i talked about in the vid and use the little umbraco (push up and turn a little in the little white "tap".) then take a little drill or toothpick and cleanse it hope it make sense... if not you are more than welcome du write agan and i vill make a specifik video to you :D
thank you for your wonderful video. You gave me the confidence to try and fix the problem in under an hour. This is not something I would have normally tried to do myself. great explanation and really useful video. do you still have the Gaggia Brera(ours is getting quite old, and wondering what you bought next?)
Hello Steven :) YOU guys are the reason why i do this! I LOVE when i could see my videos could be used and save people some money ;P I think it´s fun to do these things myself and get the experience to fix other things :D No... i bought me a new Siemens EQ6 for about 2 years now and it worked FANTASTIC! i could totally recommend that ;)
Your english is fine, and even though my problem with this machine is different it was nice to see somebody took it upon themself to take the machine apart and see the inner working components. The problem I have with my machine is brewing pre-ground coffee, I can cycle the machine without any coffee in it and it will complete the cycle with no errors, of course you get jut hot water. If I put ground coffy beans in the reservoir and try to brew, the machine will show the red triangle alarm, dump the unused coffy and brew just hot water. Any ideas? PS.: The machine was descaled recently.
I am not a specialist at all but make sure that the side of the mashine is closed. There is a small switch in the machine that feel if the side is closed so if you open the side the red triangle will appear in the display. Have you tried with ungrouded beans an se if the problem is the same? i found a page (danish) where you could download a manual ( don´t worry it is in english heh :P ) in the bottom the is a link to the manual "Download Gaggia Brera Manual ------> www.rigtigkaffe.dk/automatiske-espressomaskiner/46-gaggia-brera-black.html#specs Please write if you have solved your problem so we can help others :D Btw merry Christmas :)
Martin, I have a problem with my Brera. After 5 years of using it, my machine started rejecting coffee (It would grind coffee and throw it out to the right side container in a dry form). It would then not make coffee. I would press the button again, it would make a coffee and then it would reject it again after grinding beans. There was enough coffee beans, the sign "no beans" was showing even if there are coffee beans to grind. I then brought my machine to the service. They cleaned it and all and it worked... for 2 days. It does the same thing again. Is there anything else I should try to have looked at before buying a new coffee machine?
Hello fanfan777 😄 Well I am not a specialist in any way and this was the first time I have tried to fix a coffee machine. This is a long shot but maybe it is the hall sensor for the grinder? I think it senses how much resistance there is an if it is broke maybe it thinks the chamber is empty? It is many years since I have made this video so I can’t remember how it was built 😩 but if you have a friend with a oscilloscope you could measure it 😄
Hi Martin I have. Problem with my Brera when I switch it on it primes and then all lights go off on the panel and a red triangle starts flashing with a ! In the middle , I had check to make sure the brewing piece is in place and that the door was secured , everything seems to work until my the red triangle appears . Any help would would be very much appreciated Darren
Hello Dareen 😊 Well it is a long time since I have used the machine but I think I could remember mine does the same. Try to click it over to steam and get any air "bubbles" out and see if that helps.. 😉 have you looked in the manual? If not try it and if you don't have it I got a link for you 😊 I really hope it could solve your problem! Have a wonderful day ☺️
I followed these instructions and now have a broken piece. The white pump has the small ‘cog’ on the end of the spring. It snapped in half. What do I do? Please help
Martin Bank Jørgensen yes. I managed to superglue it back together, then got it back in the machine. I just don’t know what to do with the machine. The steamer works perfectly but the coffee is blocked. From the method on this video, I don’t see how that whole white valve comes out- without taking the machine apart? I really appreciate any help. Thanks
Unfortunatelly this did not fix my problem. My gaggia brera was well taken care of before the problem started but i did go over the cleaning again and specifically concentrated on what you suggested in your video. The machine still can't brew coffee after grinding but it does brew coffee when i use pre ground coffee. How is that possible? That tells me it is not a brew unit problem or water pump. Can you please help me? Thank you
Hello Anila :) well i am not an expert at all but are you sure that the grinder really grind the coffe beans? Mabye the engine is running and the grinding "gear" is loose on the axel?
hi! my machine stopped working half way through dispensing a shot of espresso and it's as if there is no power at all, no red halo light around the power button, it's like the fuse has gone, but I've check the fuse... so before I start getting inside the machine, do you know if there's an internal fuse or something? or another obvious reason for not powering on? thanks in advance!
My problem is that there is a lot of clear water coming out before the shot. Normally there might be a little but now there is a a lot more and it dribbles for a longer period of time after the shot is finished, again more than normally. Wondering if this same part might be implicated in this case or if anyone has any idea what's going on. I am not due to descale again yet but will try a descaling as soon as I can get the solution. Thanks
I can't for the life of me remove the white little guy inside the tube, any pointers? I've tried normal tweezers, paper clip and tiny screw driver to try and prize it out so far
My machine is only two months old and it will only do a full cuppa coffee not an espresso any ideas to fix when I push on the espresso it still gives me a full cuppa coffee
Maybe.. Try to programme the button by hold it down (the one with a cup). Now the coffee will come out and when the desired amount is in the cup, then release :) plz tell me if it worked ;)
Oh richard sorry to hear that! Yes it is pretty fragile 😣 But I’m sure you still are able to buy parts to it 👏🏻 otherwise try to find a guy with a 3-D printer and then he could print it. Just be aware of using the right fillerment 🤗
Haha well that I’m not.. just an ordinary guy that loves coffee. 🤣 I’m so glad it is helpful 🤗 hope I just gave you joy in the “first” cup after the fix 💪🏻

So.... what's your thoughts as I've got the machine back to repair myself and its working just fine again? But there is a leak and its always clean water under the machine and fairly dark water in the tray.
Haha thanks 😜 I can barely remember it ( my videos is about 8 years old) but I do remember the water problem 😣 if the water have damage the PCB it’s pretty much done.. water leak etc is mechanical fail and could be repaired but when it comes to electronic issues, we’ll… I think your f@cked 🥵
Now a long shot….. try to clean the board with isopropyl alcohol ( that could rarely work ) otherwise I’m sorry to say I can’t help you :( As the say to expensive to repair unfortunately :(
My problem on this machine is when i press the on button to warm up the machine the rinsing water doesnt come out from the same sprout that the coffee comes out. It goes all in the bottom tray. The machine makes very good coffee but the bottom tray is always filling up with water. Do you have any idea on what is the problem causing this?
I can’t remember why ( I was having the same problem) but check the sealing on the brewer unit 😅 it have ben so long since I have made the video 😅
I did everything you instructed me to do. Tried to brew and no coffee came up, just leaked out the bottom. What is the next step in troubleshooting this?
Hello, I have the same issue with water not flowing through the main nozzles. Machine is 2 weeks old. Do you think the it is the same issue as yours?
2 weeks old? I don’t think they make them anymore and no I don’t think it got lime problems already.. so I don’t know what could cause the problem 😅
@@martinbankjorgensen yeah, I am thinking the same. It sounds like major issue ☹️
@@fbasicst there must be some reimbursement?
Dear Martin, Firstly I must say your spoken English is excellent , very clear with perfect pronunciation. You referred to Calc I think you mean calcium carbonate also known as Limescale (I think). I have been using our Brera for two years making six coffees a day, recently the amount of fluid coming out has reduced and the coffee takes longer to make in it's cycle. I hope you don't mind me asking but do you think clearing the plastic feed mentioned in this video will help, I notice someone else has posted the same problem and I'm unsure which of your videos helped with this. Many thanks Cara
+MegaOJW
Tank you SO much Cara! :) yes limescale was the word ;)
i think this could be your problem. see the last end of my vid and i will explain how to clean it WITHOUT taking it apart :D You only have to take out the 2 screws i talked about in the vid and use the little umbraco (push up and turn a little in the little white "tap".) then take a little drill or toothpick and cleanse it
hope it make sense... if not you are more than welcome du write agan and i vill make a specifik video to you :D
Many thanks my friend ! You saved me !
thank you for your wonderful video.
I LOVE when i could see my videos could be used and save people some money ;P I think it´s fun to do these things myself and get the experience to fix other things :D
No... i bought me a new Siemens EQ6 for about 2 years now and it worked FANTASTIC! i could totally recommend that ;)
Your english is fine, and even though my problem with this machine is different it was nice to see somebody took it upon themself to take the machine apart and see the inner working components.
Have you tried with ungrouded beans an se if the problem is the same? i found a page (danish) where you could download a manual ( don´t worry it is in english heh :P ) in the bottom the is a link to the manual "Download Gaggia Brera Manual ------>

Please write if you have solved your problem so we can help others :D
Btw merry Christmas :)
Hello fanfan777 😄
Well I am not a specialist in any way and this was the first time I have tried to fix a coffee machine.
Hello Dareen 😊
Well it is a long time since I have used the machine but I think I could remember mine does the same. Try to click it over to steam and get any air "bubbles" out and see if that helps.. 😉 have you looked in the manual? If not try it and if you don't have it I got a link for you 😊
I really hope it could solve your problem!
Have a wonderful day ☺️
I followed these instructions and now have a broken piece. The white pump has the small ‘cog’ on the end of the spring. It snapped in half. What do I do? Please help
Hey Nicky I’m sorry to hear that! Is it the pice you turn with the hex to take the spring out?
Mabye the engine is running and the grinding "gear" is loose on the axel?
hi! my machine stopped working half way through dispensing a shot of espresso and it's as if there is no power at all, no red halo light around the power button, it's like the fuse has gone, but I've check the fuse... so before I start getting inside the machine, do you know if there's an internal fuse or something? or another obvious reason for not powering on? thanks in advance!
haha ignore me! the main power button had been switched off somehow mid-dispense - ooopsy!
+Ben Fisher fantastic 😂
My problem is that there is a lot of clear water coming out before the shot. Normally there might be a little but now there is a a lot more and it dribbles for a longer period of time after the shot is finished, again more than normally. Wondering if this same part might be implicated in this case or if anyone has any idea what's going on. I am not due to descale again yet but will try a descaling as soon as I can get the solution. Thanks
I can’t help you 😫 I have no idea unfortunately. Really hope you find a solution 🙏🏻
Is citric acid okay to use as a decalcifier for this machine? Thank you
Hey Masakik
Well i use Siemens own acid made for the machine :)
How do you like this machine? Mine is coming Friday :)
Masakik86 Well when it worked it was fine but I bought a new one instead of this one. The Siemens IQ6 is my new machine ☺
Can anyone help? I am getting wet and slushy coffee grounds after a coffee. What could be the issue.
I can't for the life of me remove the white little guy inside the tube, any pointers? I've tried normal tweezers, paper clip and tiny screw driver to try and prize it out so far
It is because you should push it up an turn it 45° or 90° as I remember and then It should come right out with a little help 😉
Thank you your video was extremely helpful and yes this did work
+Carol Corrigan YES perfect 😉
Thank you Martin great video understood too
I tried this. The small plastic X shaped piece broke into four. My coffee machine no longer works at all so I’m worse off than before.
Oh richard sorry to hear that! Yes it is pretty fragile 😣 But I’m sure you still are able to buy parts to it 👏🏻 otherwise try to find a guy with a 3-D printer and then he could print it. Just be aware of using the right fillerment 🤗
legend
that is all
Haha well that I’m not.. just an ordinary guy that loves coffee. 🤣 I’m so glad it is helpful 🤗 hope I just gave you joy in the “first” cup after the fix 💪🏻
It's better but still not 100% clear. Thinking de calcifying may be way to go, not keen on chemicals may try vinegar. Thanks because it is little better.
Thank you!
MikeCook2000 you are so welcome 🙏🏻
Sadly, this did not solve it for me. I threw away my last gaggia Brera due to the same exact issue. This one I’m about to throw through the window.
@@lesley9712 sorry to hear that 😔🙏🏻 well it is a old machine and the don’t hold forever sadly 😔
It is a normal umbraco tool 😀
Martin Bank Jørgensen
Hi Martin.... made first only a public coment without knowing that you probably won't get my question....
Again... have troubles with my gaggia brera that water comes out of steamer while machine makes cofe... tried to clean it like your video snowed but didn't help... should i take it apart then to get that white valve out???
Thank you for your answer
First of all... SORRY for the unacceptable long response time!!!
well i am not at all an expert but a cleaning is not enough.... i think the problem is to be found in the white valve (behind the selector button). It is very long time since i have fixed this machine so i can´t remember the exact way how you do that, but yes a i am afraid so :( Maybe you can here you´r local store what experience they have and then fix it you´r self :D
awesssom! english!!!!! man
