Someone recommended Kelly's videos to me so I watched this and tried out the sequence in the gym today. Only took me around 5 minutes to completely work both hips, and boy could I feel the tightness! I then hit the squat rack and COULD NOT BELIEVE the improvement after just one session of stretching. I have been squatting for months and have NEVER got that deep before. Man it feels go to go low!!! My hips and glutes are sore just thinking about the next time, but I'm definitely adding this in to my routine once a week. After a few months I swear I'll be squatting so low my ass will be in AUSTRALIA!!! Damn!!

BUT, after doing this and your ankle and hamstring stretches, combined with some oly shoes, I'm finally able to get into a half decent squat without my knees coming in, and my legs are already getting stronger because of it. After seeing this video and how my right knee doesn’t align with my foot is scary!! Stephen you need to watch more of the Mobilitywod videos. He mentions MANY times that you work your way into these things, and not dive into things hurting yourself. When someone sells you a kitchen knife, do you need to be told that chopping carrots like you're clearing brush might damage your knife, your board, or yourself? no. > I have fixed MANY issues with peoples' shoulders, hips, hams, calves, with his advice. Easily the best mobility coach/trainer/researcher in the world IMO.
I did this today as a warm up for a heavy front squat session and honestly I have never felt so secure and comfortable under the bar. I struggle with problems such as chest dropping and weight onto my front of foot with squats. This instantly improved that! Unbelievable and worth trying no matter what level you're at!
I was amazed at the difference this made in just a few short minutes. A big thanks to Mark Bell of Super training gym for introducing me to Kelly and the Mobility WOD.
As a kid I had slipped capital femoral epiphysis and by the time I was 15 I had the pins removed and have been doing martial arts ever since (13 years) without any dramas apart from lack of flexibility. This set of stretches targets all of the muscles which got super tight in the 6 years I was told "no more sport". I now do crossfit and can't squat well at all, but hopefully soon I'll have good range of motion just like everyone else. Thanks heaps Kstar, your a legend :D
I've only been doing squats for six weeks now and had not been able to even reach parallel, but I tried these stretches before my workout yesterday and was able to get down below parallel. I wasn't able to lift as much though. I figure it's because I'm now using muscles that were not getting worked when I didn't go so deep. Thanks! I now feel like a real squatter, instead of a half-repper.
Thanks so much Kelly. This single video has been so invaluable to me. I thought for a long time that squatting just wasn't for me because I would get groin pain intermittently after performing them. Well, I stumbled upon this video and perform these stretches before each session and have had no pain from squatting and my strength in the squat has gotten to where I never thought it would! Thanks again.
I use to think mobility movements were for hippies. However lately I have been feeling great discomfort in the hips working my way through the warmup sets, at times i wussed out and did leg press exercises. So I gave in and traded in my ego for some yoga pants. After 3 weeks of doing hip extensor stretches for 15 minutes before warm up sets, I can attest to the improvement in squat depth and better performance in power movements.
THIS IS AWESOME! I had a nagging pain in both of my hip flexors after a low-bar squat session and these stretching exercises completely took the pain away
I've literally watched 100s of videos for squat prepping and this is the only one that has shown improvement (after a month). Don't suppose you could a video specifically on the buttwink/tuck under/posterior pelvic tilt. if you have already please comment with the link :-)
wow, this helped me a lot. The first time I properly overhead squated was after this stretch. My hips are crazy tight, keeping me from being upright at the bottom. Thanks!!!

First time I did this it blew my mind how much more stable I felt and how much further I could get down after I did just a couple of these stretches. Didn't even do the whole routine and I was completely shocked.

at 37 I slipped and fell. Back pain until now at 70+. I will do anything not to cause more pain, but my steps were getting shorter and shorter, no idea bout the tight hips etc... oh God I hope this helps me get my body baaack!.

This routine helps substantially with the pain down my leg that is caused by an SI joint problem.
