This video is part of the their time, concert, in China. Wham! made history by being the first ever Western act to perform in China. This was in 1985.
It's crazy to think just how NOT long ago that actually was. Thanks for that cool tidbit of info.
@@pretzelprintsYou're welcome.
George Michael's ambition was to achieve an international breakthrough with the band in the shortest possible time (just two years), but above all to conquer the US market. As a result, his manager made every effort to achieve this. The trick was to let Wham! be the first western band to perform in communist China and the whole world reported on this sensation and so he succeeded in helping Wham! achieve a breakthrough in the USA.
This is my favorite Wham! song. Thank you Eric Ross for requesting this song. This song is rarely reacted to reactors.
George wrote, produced and sang the song
Thank you Eric Ross for the request!!!
Yup, thanks, ER. Takes me back to Classic MTV. 😎
Great request, E-Ross. Such a defining moment in history this concert was. Nice reaction, Jack.
@JackReacts904
Yep Jack, during Mao Zedong's reign a movement known as the Cultural Revolution was in effect in the People's Republic of China (PRC) With it's sole goal to protect & preserve their communism by purging any residual capitalist & traditional elements from their Society. So people from our mixed market economy were not allowed during that time. Although with the death of Mao Zedong that movement came to an end, China still was cautious about who was allowed in the years following.
Wham!'s band manager Simon (Simon Napier-Bell) spent months convincing Chinese officials to get Wham to be their first Western act to perform. The rock band Queen was also trying to be the first to perform there as well. Supposedly, one of Simon's tactics that helped was using Queen's front man Freddie Mercury's image against him. Comparing his rock n roll image & his outfits to George & Andrew, who was not only handsome but also had a cleaner image than Freddie. It all worked, with Simon also having the mindset to book the concerts quickly before the Chinese government changed their minds. George said the first concert in China was the hardest performance he had ever given in his life.
Something a bit different but love Wham ! Great reaction and hope you all are well! I requested a couple other songs i hope you guys will enjoy:) take care and stay blessed
@@CRobb-ql4zp ....thank you very much for posting...i found myself fighting back tears listening to this video....GM....seemed so young and happy during this period in his career...i have always been aware of how somber and melancholy he became when he went solo....RIP GEORGE.....
Style-wise, "Freedom" is a perfect blend of the Motown Records songwriting team Holland-Dozier-Holland with Smokey Robinson's own approach. George Michael was clearly a student of the greats. Many of the singles from the second and third Wham! albums are very influenced by Motown, 60s Girl Groups, and 60s Soul. Their first album has more of a Post-Disco and Jazz-Funk approach. All of their single are worth seeking out.
“Like a prisionner who has his own key”
What a line!
In the documentary “Wham” (Netflix) they talk exactly about this line and the real meaning of this song.
George was a genius he realised the power of music from a very young age he wrote produced and sang this, they didn't have time to make a video so this was put together very well, there is a video on TH-cam about their time and how they were allowed in China called called Wham in China also Big boys over seas if I'm correct
Hello,
The first musical part of the song Faith (played with an organ) is taken from the music of this song😉
It was really very good George😍
What a loss!🖤
The organ part of the song Faith was a reinterpretation and recreation of the melody of the chorus of this song but not actually the sample of this song.

Amazing request so far y'all much love ❤
A few 80's hits definitely took on the classic Motown sound and modernized it for the era. "Xanadu", "Like a Virgin" and this song are good examples. George Michael had such a soulful angelic voice, that chorus is just heavenly, cool reaction 👍
Love me some wham
Their song “Last Christmas” was a great song.
😂 Before clicking on the video, I’m thinking Jack is gonna love Naomi Campbell, Christy Turlington and them. Oops. 😊 Anyway, I hope there are more requests of 80’s music from the UK. 🇬🇧✌🏽
😂I did, too. I had to edit my comment 🤣 Wham!💥
Now I understand why it says Freedom 90'. I knew of the Wham! song Freedom. But I still didn't put it together. Thankfully, YT has the edit feature available.
Awww man thanks for the reaction! No worries on babyface i had a feeling you already reacted to it before but wasnt sure! Can we do Cece Peniston-keep on walking? Love the channel brother
_I hope he reacts to the “Keep On Walkin” music video (Laurie Ann Gibson)_

This is NOT the song 'Freedom' that I know of. I've NEVER heard this song before🤔
you’re thinking of Freedom 90 🤭. George Michael solo…
This came out in the mid-80s. The one you know is Freedom '90, post Wham.
@@ginahouston9352 OK. Thank you!
This one is the forgotten Freedom that came first. Was a big hit in 85 or so but doesn't receive much airplay these days in comparison to Freedom 90
This hit number 1
