The new Tumnus Germanium is so good it replaced the Archer on my board, and is now up there with the Protein, OCD, and Hot Cake on my Mt Rushmore of best drive pedals I have ever owned.
I've been using the Ernie ribbons for years and have had minimal problems with them. You can get multi sizes. I have a 8-12 pedal board. And I gig 4-5 times a month. I have entertained making my own.
I’ve got the Morning Glory on my bass board with a Jive set at about 9:00 for gain and 10:00 for volume with all diode toggles off right in front of it for a little extra boost. They both run out of my LS-2 so I can mix my clean signal as needed. It sounds fantastic! I don’t have any other OD on my main board. The Jive can also stand on its own as a different flavor of OD or fuzz if you crank it up and engage the diodes.
I think the Rodenberg drives are severely under-rated. I have the TB Shakedown and Lukather 3-ch model and they're both fantastic. I also think the Mythos has the best Klone I've used. The original run of KTR's was my favourite, but the Mjolnir is as close to that as it comes (in my hands anyway).
The BD-2 cuts through the mix better. Play it in a band and it might change your mind. The BD-2W has more low end. I play single coils with blackface and AC style amps. For those, it's a classic overdrive sound. If you're going for Nashville sounds, the ODR is probably the better choice. But for straight alternative or old-style rock'n'roll, BD-2 is the shit. And really any of these pedals are fine if you put an EQ pedal before or after them.
Good info. Anyway. Big time time labeling an overdrive topic with 15% of discussion about some drives. Patch cables wasn't going to get clicks. However I'm not complaining. Thanks for reminding me non of this applies to me. Not much has changed unsurprisingly. Like forever. I'll play more I guess.
The Vemuram Shanks is the best drive, and I have tried all of them.Very expensive, but I got mine second hand. The Duke of tone is great also and I have the AT Drive which is a Keeley pedal the brought out just before their double pedal series, it's like the Phat mod with another option. Bogner pedals are awesome like La Grange. The Soldano SLO drive is the best distortion.
I agree cheap solderless cables aren't worth the hassles but ibe used the evidence audio sis cables for years and years and never had a failure. From giging to rehearsal to recording not once have i had an issue . I have had issues with soldered cables when ive had to connect and external volume pedal to my setup for certain shows so I'll always stick to the sis cable system
Spot on with the Nobels ORD Mini. Amazing tone for the price (or at any price, frankly). Just picked one of these up, and it’s an instant “happy place” pedal. Definitely exudes that “Nashville sound” a bit, but the feel, my goodness, the feel under the fingers…
@rogerYT69 I don’t typically play many power chords on the E & A strings, but if I did, the Belle would surely be an amazing solution. The Nobels really adds some (needed) low presence when playing my rhythm triads & double-stops up the neck.
Joyo Overdrive......Flamma.....NUX......Mosky.....Caline.........40 dollar overdrives that sound as good as 400 or 1,000 dollar overdrives....why waste your money?
I do not think, I wasted my money buying some premium effect pedals - they are also much more fun for me. If you are happy with yours, that's also fine.
The Ernie Ball flat cables, I use them and so far really happy. Not sure on the tonal comparison with other connectors but the usability, that is to bend them around the board is good. I use a combination of the 6-inch and the 12-inch on my board and though they are a little higher priced I feel it is worth the while.
The best overdrive is the one that you like. Don't listen to these gatekeepers. Opinions on pedals are subjective. Robin Trower still uses Fulltone. Does the Nobles sound better because Tom Bukovac says so? Be innovative and do something different.
I use a Fender Super Champ XD, channel 2, setting 12, gain on 8, Bass 3, treble 7, FX 6, Reverb/echo…. and it sounds like TIME Pink Floyd. No pedal 🤷♂️🎸
51:36 Overdrive Topic why you are here

Custom lynx is a UK company that make patch cables and looms and sell things to make your own
Cornerstone Antique v3 should be the tube screamer pick for 2024 imo

The standard BD-2 is way too fizzy to my ears, even with the gain dialed back. Maybe the BD-2w fixes that?
I didn't like the BD-2. I love the BD-2w - been on my board for over a year since I got it.

The BD-2W is THAT good. Such a great pedal. I sold my Jan Ray and kept the V
BD-2W, along with the Protein.

I’ve had some boss patch cable that came with a BCB 6 almost 40 years ago while I was in high school. Still going. Go figure
The Mojo mojo pedal is really good. I bought it after watching a Johnny Hiland video.
Mojo mojo is Paul Gilbert’s go to pedal.
Tumnus is a masterpiece
100% agree! I have the Tumnus Deluxe and it's amazing
Absolutely! 👍
They sell these smaller cables in longer runs. I use those Ernie ball flats and you just get different lengths.

a bit to bass heavy for my taste this is why I use the wampler belle instead😊

Quite weird to label this video only overdrive pedals 2024... Why? 70% of the video was something I could'nt care less about...
I’ve got a Boss 6” molded cable that has lasted almost 50 years.
Cables? Yep, make mine Mogami too. The one downside is that their premade ones are not all that pliable.
We Fulltone stopped making guitar and patch cables, I bought a bunch at 50% off.....At the time I thought they were high quality....Are they?
I...umm...100% use a right angle cable on all guitars, including my Strat...
PS I just started soldering my own cables and what a dream! So much easier and it's kinda fun!
Wot? No Wampler Belle? Shame 👀🎈😅
NORDVANG GRAVITY
boring. no one is a 2024 model tney are just a copy of something older.
Totally...deleting now!
Joyo Overdrive......Flamma.....NUX......Mosky.....Caline.........40 dollar overdrives that sound as good as 400 or 1,000 dollar overdrives....why waste your money?
Especially joyo

Sound great and break after 6 months of regular use.
Wot? No Nordland ODR-C? Shame 👀🎈😅
Wot? No Snouse Black box 2? Shame 👀🎈😅
Wot? No Zen Ray? Shame 👀🎈😅
Wot? No Danelectro Roebuck? Shame 👀🎈😅
For the love of god dont talk about patch cables
Huh?

The list is okay but not great. Trust me, the best overdrive this year has been the Human Amp Driver. That thing has been a total game changer for me.
Why trust you?
Its an ear thing. I borrowed a friends "Petty John Ruos" true by pass distortion I think its a "Rat" Clone/Type Sounds amazing.@@classicraceruk1337
Uh huh?
But all in all... What makes this Human Amp Driver so special to you? Haven't heard of it yet.
They have to promote the pedals they are paid to promote...otherwise they would tell you what their real picks are...
I am seeing a "cables" discussion and not overdrive pedals when I start this episode.. a bit confused here 😶
Agree, I would have started with the drives since the thumbnail but still appreciated the discussion.
..."hasn't done it's yoga or anything" 😂
Great show gentlemen. Thanks!
I've got a BOSS Blues Driver...pretty cool pedal.

I have the same problem as Grant. My difficulty is the Hot Cake
Radio Shack to the rescue @goodwoodaudio !
My first patch cables were the 1ft, multicolor Radio Shack pack.
Wot? No EQ with any of these pedals? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
