Hey guys and welcome back, today I'm reviewing Artezas 96 set of watercolor real brush pens. I decided to create a trio of galaxies so I could get a good feel for how these brush pens work and could try out a few different sets of colours.
In the box you get 96 vibrant colours as well as a water brush pen which can be used to wet your canvas/paper and for blending. There is also the 'carry case' varient which I would recommend if you can get it.
The pens themselves are sort of individual watercolour brushes. It's quite unique and when you compare them to watercolours, it's nice to be able to easily and quickly switch between the different colours.
They can be used by directly painting onto paper or by dipping them into water first. When applying them directly, you get a very solid vibrant colour which is very reminscent of alcohol markers.
If you dip them in water first then you get a more 'washy' waterrcolour effect.
I found the small brushes excellent for fine details but would definitely struggle to cover a larger canvas. When I use these in the future I'll definitely be using a standard paint brush to help with larger coverage.
As my 'style' is to create galaxies, I decided to create this trio of triangle galaxies. Ignore the black ink that is bleeding into the water, I did the design on adobe illustrator and printed it directly onto the watercolour paper so it'sjust printer ink bleeding in.
I barely practiced with these before just jumping straight in and found them very intuitive and easy to use.
I'm super happy with how the galaxies turned out and am really looking forward to using them for some future projects. I'm thinking maybe some cool watercolour galaxy pokemon art? Let me know what you think about that.

Love this video and your creation! I have just got myself a pack of 48 of these real brush pens and am excited to try them out! I was wondering if you had tried them on normal Strathmore sketching paper and if so what it came out like? As I don't have the special water paper that's recommended. Also what did you use to get that spritz of small white dots over the image before you started using your white gel pen? :)
Hi, sorry for the late reply. I haven't tried them on anything other than watercolor paper. In the past I've used watercolors on standard bristol paper and it can be done but the results are a little frustrating. normal paper just isn't capable of contsantly taking the amount of water needed.
For the white stars, I dip an old toothbrush in white acrylic ink and flick it onto the paper 👍

I got the 24 or 48 pack and they all fell out the tray and I've been struggling to reorder them in the trays ...didn't think to check the box for the list I'm new to this 😂
What kind of paper is this you are using?
What is good colouring pencils other than arteza
2 Questions....Any idea how long they last before running out? And can you refill or do you just buy a new one? Great tutorial.
Great questions. I haven't tested how long they will last but I'll ask Arteza directly for both of them and see what they say
@@FarrellArtist That would be great....thank you. I'm a Copic Marker artist but I don't like their lack of light fastness so I've been seeking a marker alternative and your review really intreged me.

I tried this out for myself but the wet on wet thing didn't seem to work for me as the brush pens didn't seem to spread I did the on normal paper so I am not sure if it was the paper I was using or the type of brush pens I was using as I didn't use the exact one u used
Definitely the paper if it wasn't watercolour paper. Read reviews before buying as some say it's watercolour paper but it isn't
