    What is YOUR favourite picture profile to shoot on? Any custom 'sweet spot' profiles out there?

    • @JakeStorey
      @JakeStorey 7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Peter McKinnon I use wat Devin supertramp shown in one of his tutorials to get a bright vibrant colour profile

    • @PeterMcKinnon
      @PeterMcKinnon  7 ปีที่แล้ว +31

      I've used that profile too! Colourful!

    • @JakeStorey
      @JakeStorey 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Peter McKinnon yeah I use it when I don't want to have to sit and colour correct much as it's vibrant and looks good for coming straight out of the camera

      I've done this with my t3i and can get the colors to look great with a simple s curve. But when I try this with my go pro hero 4 black, I can't get to colors back at all? Any help?

      Peter McKinnon I use technicolor cinestyle when I have time to do grading. It's free and it gives me pretty decent dynamic range with my Canon 70d

    Less than a year ago, I had no idea how to take photos and videos. After watching your videos, often, I have shot an award winning short film that has been shown in 12 different countries, been hired for both videographer and photographer for weddings, and passed my editing classes...with no help from the professor. I just want to say thank you for passing on the knowledge!

    For anyone wanting a flat profile as you can get IF you DON'T have Cinestyle or C-log or a cinema style picture profile!
    First find your flattest picture profile on your camera (mine is Neutral)
    Turn your Sharpness to 0 (Zero)
    Turn your Contrast to -4
    Turn your Saturation to -2
    Leave your Color Tone at 0 (in the middle)
    You can play with these and do whatever you please! Just in case anyone was new, I figured this might help!
    Always wonderful seeing your face on Tuesdays Peter! :D Wish I could join you on your adventures! :(

      Is it only for filming or it works for shooting photos too?

    • @andrekaled
      @andrekaled 6 ปีที่แล้ว +23

      @@RomanSable on photos this will only apply to the JPEGs, but doesn't make sense shooting JPEG neutral to get more dynamic range when you can simply shoot RAW haha. (And, no, the profile won't change anything in the raw file, but since it is raw, it already have more dynamic range than anything)

    • @RomanSable

      @@andrekaled Thanks:)

    • @oneleggedlifter7660
      @oneleggedlifter7660 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@andrekaled maybe a stupid question but since i am a noob haha, my profile is on standard, and as you said there is "sharpness" if i would crank that up, are my pictures really going to be sharper?

    • @andrekaled
      @andrekaled 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@oneleggedlifter7660 if the sharpness you are referring to is more details, doing it won't change it. The only thing that can make you photos sharper is a good lens and good focusing skill. The sharpening setting on the pictures profiles will only change your photos (jpeg) and videos in a post digital process. So it's basically the same thing as doing it in post processing using a software (PS, LR, PR..), the difference is that is a destructive process, and you won't be able to take it off in post of it come out to ruin some of your jpegs/videos.
      So you're better doing it in post and have full control over it than messing you pics permanently.

    Well if you don't have a log log profile in your camera just choose a standard/natural/neutral picture profile. Reduce sharpening to the minimum amount possible. Reduce contrast to the minimum amount possible. Reduce saturation a bit (you still want to retain some color and not go completely monochrome). Super easy!

I know where I made my flaws but by working my way up is what I always gonna do. I can give you a link as well. Others can also watch it too whether is a sports fan or not. If you're shooting JPEG, the picture profile will determine how your photos turn out so it's advisable to change them according to the subject. If you're shooting RAW, it won't have any impact on the RAW file, however, it will make a difference when you preview your images in camera and it will probably also influence the histogram as it is based on the JPEG rendition of the image.

    LOG Picture Profiles do not increase dynamic range.
    They just store the information differently. This can make a difference, when there's not enough color resolution (bit depth) available or when there's too much compression.
    LOG gives more steps in shadow areas ... however, those steps are taken away from the brighter areas.

    Great stuff! I shoot with the Canon 70D at the moment although a Canon 80D would be amazing! Any filmmakers want to support each other? Comment Below!

    Faking a log profile with camera settings does not mean you get more details in the shadows or highlights!

    • @metcalfemedia7512
      @metcalfemedia7512 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is what i've been wondering.. it seems like with DSLRs if you go neutral/flat, lower sharpening etc.. You just have to fix it in post to achieve what the Standard profile would have given you to start with! I don't see much of a difference...
