Regis Mohawk - Ultra Rare Lotus Elite Inspired Ford Cortina Based Kit Car #

Welcome to my next project. A rare kit car from the late 80's early 90's. 1 of apparently only 3 that made it to the road between 1989 and 1992 with only 9 or 10 kits sold. Its a replica loosely based on the Lotus Elite with a space frame chassis, Ford Cortina mechanics & a fibreglass body shell.
I purchased this off ebay, minus its running gear, with the intention of fully restoring it back to road use.

I would say the inner rear lights are escort but I spotted a rover / unipart logo on the outer ones, possibly Maestro / Montego. Front indicators look like Mk1 Sierra to me and the headlights have been used on loads of things, you will manage to find them no problem. Interesting project, good luck!

Definate Delorean vibes.....I originally had Delorean in the videos title but opted to change it. Pity the rear end isn't as nice though!

It will have that early registration date as it will likely be registered on the donors ID.

I presumed it was a 1982 car being on an old 'Y' reg. Gleefully rubbing my hands being mot/tax exempt! Alas, not to be. 97 registered. Pity there's no way of finding out the original manufactured date.

I vaguely remember these, it's one of those kits that tried to be original but really needed someone with a design background to make it more appealing.

Totally agree. Its not the prettiest by any means. The rear has virtually no designing gone into it at all other than the bumper. The side profile it doesn't know what it is. I'm thinking a sympathetic restomod on it. May even try to restyle the rear end.

@@DipstickUK It was bothering me that certain aspects rang faint bells. It then dawned on me how parts of it seems to be an attempt to mimic the Lotus Etna concept, if not very successfully.

@@mrdainase That's a new one on me. Not heard of the Etna before. But, yes most definately. Wing mirrors and front end profile. Its almost as if they forgot or ran out of time when developing the rear end look on the Mohawk. I know which one i'd prefer!!

I thought so at first but the sciroccos I think are bigger. I'll have to have a proper check for stamps etc on all the lights.

1985 lotus Esprit and a 1985 Ford Escort XR3 ?

Its definately a good mix of the two. Pretty sure it is a escort rear hatch on it.

@@DipstickUK they called it a Ford EXP in the states. We had a guy with hydraulic suspension on his Escort and I'll never forget that.

@@outkast40 had a quick google of the EXP. Definately seen them before...obviously not in the UK just online content. Very similar rear ends to the mk2 supra and fc rx7.
