Is anything more beautiful than a 1979 Gary Numan singing, high pitched, sharp and piercing. Jet black hair, eyeliner, flashing lights. These early Numan tracks never age. They are so good. Like an old girlfriend you cannot get over even though the new one is just as good or even better... she’s got you forever.
For the music he do. Yes he is very successful again. -With real music or music from outa space, you cant become a superstar again. Autotune rape and monkey generic simple as possible tune is the way for an "music" superstar today. oh and show titi if you pronounce yourself as female. Win win^^
Numan should get far better recognition. He was one of the ones who truly pioneered synth and electro. Inspired by Bowie with lyrical quality. Unfortunately he’s mostly known for The Pleasure Principle, which is a fantastic album but his Tubeway Army is oft overlooked which is a true shame as the synthesisers with his lyrics, Paul on bass and backing vocals and Jess on drums was the peak of New Wave. Todays so called “DJ’s” such as Mike Perry, Swedish House Mafia should be more thankful to Numan. Even established artists such as Underworld and Chemical Brothers will be grateful for what Numan & Tubeway Army accomplished.
Besides the songs, the lightshow was ahead of it’s time. Now everyone uses big screens. I don’t know where Numan found his lights. He gave everyone a glimpse into the future.
Was privileged to see Gary Numan at Liverpool Empire September 1979 My first concert...this brings it all back...someone invent that time machine already.
Just home after a 16.5 hr shift at the mine, exhausted and heard Boingo we close our eyes on the drive home , thought can't remember if I've ever seen a video of we close our eyes, climb into bed it's 7:51 AM have to be at work at 3 PM for another 16 hr shift and Me I disconnect pops up as I open TH-cam, the hell with Boingo when Gary Newman draws you in you have to watch. Love this song always have.
I was there as well. Liverpool Empire '79. Had to see it to believe it. The lights made your chin hit the floor.... And yes, it is the best version of this song.
This is great, great, great!!! Great electronic punk-pop led by the eerie gorgeous Gary Numan... This track was revolutionary in its time... he still performs it more muscularly today... Genius
Paul and Ced now sadly passed, but it was Cedric that made these songs - not fancy drumming, but the man had so much FEEL and GROOVE it provided the 'human' heart to what was pretty cold music, and it's that contradiction that makes it special for me. Current drummer does a very good job with Ced's parts though. Big shoes to fill!
I totally agree, Paul was present throughout the development of Gary's Early career, when they started as a pUnK band! Sadly he died young from drug abuse. And the addition of Cedrick on Drums was a masterstroke! His drumming was 'economical and thoughtful', whilst 'driving ' many songs! RIP to both Ced and Paul! dx
This song indubitably and unflappably steals thunder from the sky, a titanic, colossal feat of which the epic mythic second king of Rome, Numa Pompilus, could only dream...and brings tear-duct ablutions to the well of my anesthetized soul, which can only be moved by that certain inimitable human touch...for I am otherwise quite alien in my affections towards all other sentient beings. Alien in my affections 👽👽👽👽👽👽👽👽👽
Gary is the King of sinthersizer Pop, and of course all his backing group, I suffer having to listen to moden music, but Even today he is on the play list.
More proof the late 70's & early 80's were the best years. I was listening to this when I was 17 and my older brother came in and told me to turn this crap off. He had just bought an album he wanted to listen to. He put on this crappy Aerosmith album, and on top of that it was probably Aerosmiths worst album. Kings and queens. I jumped in the car, cranked up KROQ for real music and headed out for the night. Fecking aerosmith
This song just rocks! Of course it was ignored by our stupid corporate owned Radio. It should have been a big hit but they only played his music on College Radio. And he had cool light show. Futuristic looking. 😊
He kicked this tour off in the Glasgow Apollo. That gig almost didn't go ahead as there were so many technical problems, one being the tube lights causing interference through the PA and also the electricals of an old theatre struggling with all the lights and equipment he had. But they sorted it and it went ahead, most said it was a fantastic gig, some commented it was a lack luster performance, but we had to bear in mind he was a young 20 year old still learning his trade and doing his 1st proper gig, as before all he had was pub gigs with the Tubeway Army. The boy did well !
Perfect! I made some small changes in additions, like giving it a little more reverb and release and the sound was even more beautiful and well identical to that of cars and the song Me I Disconnect From You!
Sad thing is I don't think the kids of today can see at all how to do it, they just simply don't know how to, I saw Gary last year at the O2 academy in Newcastle, fucking brilliant
See, he also has a red tie (partly/partially red, grey too)...just like President Trump, who is winning in the polls, regarding which he has to say to Harris, "Me, I disconnect from you..." LOL!
The alarm rang for days You could tell from conversations I was waiting by the screen I couldn't recognize my photograph Me, I disconnect from you I was walking up the stairs Something moved in silence I could feel his mind decaying Only inches away from me And I disconnect from you Please don't turn me off I don't know what I'm doing outside Me and the telephone that never rings If you were me what would you do? Me, I disconnect from you
I have this on double-LP and will never sell it. Too good.

Timeless.
Excellently well put sir
He was perfect
I saw this tour in 1979 at the Tower theater in Upper Darby Pennsylvania.
I was 15, those were the days.
This man is a song writing genius, I don't think he gets the recognition for it.
Yes he did from you

I saw him on this tour. I was 17. It had a massive impact on me. Completely brilliant.
How wonderful it was to be young when Gary and Tubeway Army were doing this. Dreamy.
Besides the songs, the lightshow was ahead of it’s time. Now everyone uses big screens. I don’t know where Numan found his lights. He gave everyone a glimpse into the future.
Gary designed the stage show, suspect record company funded it.
@@michaelanderson3696Gary funded it. I was just watching an interview with him about this tour. That’s why he ended up skint so quickly.
@@yolamealing5407 Gary had infinite artistic vision, and finite budgeting skills.

"Me, I Disconnect From You" veritably brings tears to my unfeeling, robotic soul....
i'm called Parker too.............i relate
You're comically lame.
I was there. It was a fantastic show. 👏👏👏👏👏
Man, what I would have done to be at this show. Amazing!! He was the man that got me into electronic music.
I was there as well. Liverpool Empire '79. Had to see it to believe it. The lights made your chin hit the floor.... And yes, it is the best version of this song.
Luckyyyy! He was an absolute innovator. An exciting time.
Did you see omd
This really was the future
2 gigs I would do anything to see... Eliv 56 comeback special... AND THIS SHOW!!!!
Great bloody light show.
This is great, great, great!!! Great electronic punk-pop led by the eerie gorgeous Gary Numan...
This track was revolutionary in its time... he still performs it more muscularly today... Genius
New Wave awesomeness!
Best version of this imo.
Better than the studio version for sure!
Ced Sharpley's drumming is amazing. Totally irreplaceable rhythm section of Cedric and Paul Gardiner!

I was thinking the same thing.
Numan never hit success without Ced again.

@@davidwaterhouse2552 I agree about Cedric especially! His drumming stands out! But what did he pass away from? Drugs or something else?

I just discovered this kind of space music and I need more.
Please recommend something like this
Another band I think is similar is tones on tail
I don't think there is one. you could try Kraftwerk th-cam.com/video/kv8_EZrNhpY/w-d-xo.html
This is how people imagined the future in the late 70's and it's much better than our present. It's pretty sad, you know?
This is a great live song
Oh my god I just nostalgia'd everywhere.
Applause from Argentina ✨
Here you can feel the punk and rock roots of tubeway army. Great!
ROCK SOLID PLAYING.
this is fucking brilliant!
I was there, and i still have the programme.
Brilliant BLODDY TUNE!!
I miss Paul, he was such a great talent! Love his sound.
I have the VHS that this was taken from in original packaging. The video for Cars was included as a bonus track.
Brilliant title and brilliant song

Great show! We saw it twice.
i went to birmingham odeon . my parents thought i was school youth club . at 12 . me and my friends blown away . we tried to meet him but no .
So influential on the electronic and (and a lot of rock) music that came after. I dare say most people who are fans of either have no idea.
How did they...? wow!
his music even sounds better live, his music aged very well
Fab for the era. One step ahead
Man I wish I was there
I was at this gig :)
lucky! :)
you must be kidding! No way
michele hodge ditto
that would have been a great time to be living

Hey bone head your memory is failing, you didn't hear this on KROQ, you probably heard it on KSPC radio. Come on man get it together
Love this track
Great to see this again, it was brilliant how this years tour (splinter,) paid homage to this set.

Where those lights from 1979?
right, perhaps 80 or 81
Damn BBC felt the need to add extra visuals to a Gary Numan show. daft buggers.
Much better version than the original. It really smokes.
His winsome soullessness brings tears to my one time (I mean erstwhile; for, onviously not just once, but many, many times-Lol!) hitman's soul...
Que calidad de MÚSICA

HYPERSONIC...
good touch on reality.
There’s a reason why -- and the others were able to escape their room last night (9/8/79)
how did they know
Was this the gig with Nash the slash as support ?

He’s twenty-one.
Does anyone know if the support band for this tour (OMD) was also filmed?
I thought TIK AND TOK were the support.

Gary Unsworth I agree!
BRING OUT THE CHAMPAGNE AND LET'S DANCE IN THE SACRED SPACES....

I was waiting by the screen
I couldn't recognize my photograph
Me, I disconnect from you
I was walking up the stairs
Something moved in silence
I could feel his mind decaying
Only inches away from me
And I disconnect from you
Please don't turn me off
I don't know what I'm doing outside
Me and the telephone that never rings
If you were me what would you do?
Me, I disconnect from you

ME, I DISCONNECT FROM YOU.
