Gary’s band is fantastic live in this era. The synths sound absolutely amazing. The audio quality here is phenomenal, too.

As brilliant as he is musically, he doesn't get enough credit for his singing voice. Just blends in perfectly with the electronic sounds swirling around each song. M.E. a perfect example.

    • @ohcrikey9560

He uses his voice as an instrument. Tracks like 'Stormtrooper in drag' and 'Noise Noise' illustrate this perfectly. There's musicians and there's Gary Numan.

I'm on a Gary Numan group and some newb was like ," I love his music, but ho voice is pitchy". I responded, " Are you insane, his voice Its one of the main reasons I adore him!" It's perfect for his music!!!

Agreed... I posted elsewhere that I think he may be the best singer in electronic music, for the way his voice fits in perfectly with the synthetic sounds, neither overpowering them nor being overpowered by them.

I don't think anyone can top Numan. NIN is extremely close (in my personal opinion) with the power in their sounds, melodies and lyrical content that rivals Numan's, but he will always be the true Master of Electronic Music.
Have you listened to his stuff from 1994 up to now? Bloody worth it, "My Name Is Ruin" is an absolutely incredible track as well as "The End Of Things" and "If I Said". All from 2017.

    And m.e. I eat dust
    We're all so run down
    I'd call it my death
    But I'll only fade away
And I hate to fade alone
    Now there's only m.e.
    We were so sure
    We were so wrong
But there's no one left to see
And there's no one left to die
    There's only m.e.
    Why shoud I care

This must have blown peoples minds back in 1981. Also, what's with that guy dancing in the background?

"that guy dancing in the background" is, I believe, Rrussell Bell hitting a pair of syndrums rather theatrically!

Rob Dinsdale There was another video that showed this concert and you can see the whole band. It was so cool and the user took it down for some reason.😢😢 But yes you could see him playing the drums. I missed the Gary Numan Era with the exception of the song Cars, but recently discovered his Song Ruin and went back and listened to his early stuff. The man is amazing.

    Gonna sound weird,
but as an 80s kid metalhead of course I wasn’t into GN.
Listening to this and Cars, it strikes me as so right on the verge of seriously heavy!
I always said I’d love a Zakk Wydle cover of “Cars”, and the same for this. (GN singing of course)
IMO, GN has a really cool dark edge.🤘🏻
Would be awesome to see GN pair up with Black Label Society and come at this from a completely new angle, like AH-HA came at
“Take on me” from a new angle, and it was just FIRE!
A better example of what I envision is more along the lines of when Bjork teamed up with Skunk Anansi and did a smoking heavy remix of “Army of me”.
