I'm old enough to have had the privilege of seeing live matches of both Johnny Valentine and Greg Valentine. The name Valentine will always be a name associated with the sport of pro wrestling !! Greg valentine is truly the authentic, real deal just like his dad. He took the business more serious than maybe all other wrestlers when it came to giving people their monies worth. He is sincere and I would love to sit and talk with him simply as a friend. God bless you Greg as you made your family and dad extremely proud. Your the best !!!!
4 minutes away from watching the whole thing. I usually never watch a long interview like this in one sitting. I just like the subtle blunt honest laid back interview. Greg wrestled during what I considered the golden era of WWF, during my childhood.
What a believable guy he was always so mean as a wrestler and as a kid I always liked to watch "the 🔨" he was one of my favorites 💯 him and the figure 4 lol good to see he is still around and seems to be doing well!! Thanks Greg for your years of entertainment on Saturday mornings 👍👍👍
By far, one of your best interviews! As a young kid I remember watching The Hammer and Hogan, and they would tear the house down. And they would sell out 3 months in a row, 1st Valentine would go over by DQ, 2nd, Valentine would win by count out, and 3rd Hogan would go over in the steel cage! But every show they headlined at Worcester centrum, in Worcester Massachusetts would be sold out. Thanks for the great memories Mr Valentine, and thanks Hannibal for letting me relive them
That was the formula that the WWWF(and WW) used. Heels who matched up against a baby face champion usually had a three match series around the horn that ended with the final Blowoff match at Madison Square Garden. This way a baby face champ had 4 good feuds a year.
Hands down one of my favorite villains. He had such a arrogance but a tough guy arrogance about him and he could kick ass. One of the more under appreciated Intercontinental Champions
Man that 2 hrs just flew by. The Hammer never disappointed in the ring. When he was on you knew it was gonna be a match. Even when I was a kid in the 80's, he was a heel you loved to watch wrestle anybody and root for. Thanks.
Thanks Hannibal. Feels like I know Greg 'The Hammer' Valentine all my life from watching him on TV. I remember doing his Figure Four Leglock in school in the 80s....👍😊. Greetings from Dublin Ireland......👍
Anyone old enough to remember the early 70's Mid Atlantic at that time Valentine and Flair brought wrestling back to life. They made it cool to become a wrestler.
Great interview! He didn’t speak badly of anyone. I had the pleasure of meeting Greg Valentine and Harley Race at a Marriott after a show in Hershey, Pa. His demeanor was just like in this interview. I told him how much I respected him and his father’s work. Some girl came up and asked him to dance. He asked me to watch his beer then disappeared. After 10 minutes I finally realized he left.
First match I seen Valentine in was against Bob Backlund @ MSG around '81. Greg actually won the match and was given the belt, but they said the time ran out and Backlund took it back later on. Great match and Valentine was the better wrestler, Imo.
Funny, because the running joke is that Greg seems like he's always half-awake, but he really does get going, seeming more animated and enthusiastic as it goes on!
Speaking of that, I remember Greg was the first guy I saw actually use the Figure 4 as a signature finishing move. This may have even been before Ric Flair adopted it as his move. I remember the old MSG days, when Backlund was still a young champion. Greg mentions it here a little bit. They gave Greg a big push as a "master" of the figure 4, and everyone was carried out on stretchers when he put that move on. I remember one time in the storylines he broke Strongbow's leg with the move. They had Chief Jay walking around with a leg brace for months.
I shook hands with Greg at a Shell Gas station in Nashua NH when he was working a small show for medical charity. He seemed a bit nervous I was going to cause trouble but I was just happy to see him and let him go on his way without making a spectacle.
When I was a little kid in the late '70s, early '80s I lived in the Northeast of the US, and WWF was on TV there every weekend. This is before the "rock and wrestling" era. Back when Andre was the biggest name in the sport, and Hulk Hogan was still a heel and had not yet broken big with the Rocky 3 movie. Greg The Hammer was one of my favorite guys back then. He was the first one I ever saw use the Figure 4 leg lock as a finisher and known as a "master" of the move. I think this is before Ric Flair even started using it. This is back in the days when Vince used to commentate along with Bruno, wearing those old "news reporter" style sport coats. It was the MSG glory days, when Backlund was still a young champion. Great time to be a wrestling fan for sure.
GREG the HAMMER is a good good man, i remember GREG VALENTINE and BRUTUS BEEFCAKE at the upstairs bar at THE COWBOY bar in BRANTFORD in the 1980's .... HAMMER and BEEFCAKE kept running to bathroom alot... must have been a hard MAPLE LEAF WRESTLING taping at the civic center. hes a good good man !!!
Thanks Hannibal. I wish some of these retired wrestlers could become managers like Fred Blassie, Lou Albano etc. Valentine would be good for that aspect.
@Nostalgia Addict1978 I thought that too. But after this interview video, I checked out some of his older promos and matches again. He was one of the greats because he knew how to tell a story as well as any of the best.
@@rphillip1086 I disagree agree. Now someone like Honky Tonk Man, IRS, Ted Dibease or Disco Inferno.... yes... but man Greg Valentine as a manager would fail. He was never very charismatic, never outstanding on the mic. Although I've heard a decent promo or two from him... it is just not his forte at all.
Greg the hammer valentine was an integral part of my childhood growing up. The famous figure 4 leg lock! This is over two hours? It felt like 20 minutes!
Seeing the"HAMMER" again brings back some vivid moments,vs. piper in their dog collar match at starrcade'83.But it was the sight of seeing him bash up the i-c title against the walls of the cage after he dropped the belt back to tito santana in '85.Unbelievable,unforgettable but in terms of jaw-dropping hate, priceless.
This interview covered a lot of ground! Valentine even mentioned the promos that he did in Florida breaking boards with his “bionic elbow.” Those promos really helped to sell Valentine before he even arrived in the Mid-Atlantic area. Thanks for this interview.
I loved him and Brutus Beefcake as a tag team back in the mid 80s. Rhythm and Blues were good to, but not as good as The Dream Team. It's good to hear that he still gets in the ring, even if he's in his 60s.
Greg would’ve made a better Horse man than Tully Blanchard I saw Greg wrestle at a venue called County Hall in Charleston South Carolina those chops were real.
The Hammer interview was sweet! I think Greg needs to get busy on a book and get some of those awesome stories about his early experiences, Dino, Steamboat, Flair... list goes on and on!
I remember seeing Greg The Hammer Valentine and Brutus Beefcake defend their titles against the Bulldogs at the old Pittsburgh Civic Arena! Was a great match! A back and forth battle!
Really great interview with Greg "The Hammer" Valentine, I was doing a wrestling show in Reno when I got to meet "The Hammer", after the show the boys & I went to eat, and we saw "The Hammer" again, and that was when we found out that he was staying in the same hotel. Anyway, we ended up breaking bread together, and he told us stories about him being on the road. I had gotten an autograph from him and when I got back to California, I had my tattooist trace it and tattoo it on my arm.
Nothing against the killer bees i just dont like doing jobs... haha this interview is awesome. Valentine was going to be a horseman wow he should have bailed from Vince. Doesn't want to job for Sting on TV either haha
Great Wrestler. Always liked The Hammer. He was just a solid no nonsense wrestler. Loved the robe and rock n roll look. He still basically looks more or less the same at 70. years old. He seems to not really have anything bad to say about anyone other than a small few other wrestlers. He made a big mistake though IMO not joining the Four Horsemen. He would have fit in with those guys perfectly and seemed more like an NWA/WCW wrestler at the time. He was a good technical wrestler and less gimmicky than some of the other guys. WWF was only using him as basically a mediocre mid card filler after about 1988 anyway. Vince must really be a good talker to have gotten him to stay.
One of my favorite interviews was one day Gene Green asked him what that strange music was coming from his limousine. Greg just folded his arms with his bad-ass look, and says "Steppenwolf, Baby!". I was sooo funny. I know it doesn't seem funny when seeing this, but it was very funny when he did it. Love Greg the Hammer!

I agree with everything u said
Please hammer, don't hurt y...😊
Me to John
Your interviews with these wrestlers from my childhood are excellent. And the longer these interviews are the better. Keep it up please.
Greg was always a headliner at Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto, Canada. I saw him wrestle live dozens of times.
I am 55 years old and saw his father wrestle many times as a young kid. Detroit Michigan Cobo Hall. Johnny Valentine was a great wrestler.
Yeah me too maple leaf wrestling

This man is a legend plain and simple.
you and valentine r rivals no compliments keep it kayfabe
He’s a regular at my sushi restaurant and orders to go for himself and his wife. I haven’t seen him come in recently but hope he’s doing all well
That's great to hear. Hope you are having a great week Mr Tiger Tea!
You seen him lately?
In which state?
Is he even more handsome in person as he appears on video?
He not nice to his wife. Very not nice.

Met Valentine in New Jersey convention .What a cool dude he is
Greg would've made a great horseman! Old school legend

Captain Obvious yes! The robes and the style. Plus those guys could flat out wrestle!

Big fan of The Hammer.
Thanks for sharing.
Great interview.
Great interview. Valentine was always one of my favorites from when I first started watching WWF in the early 80s.

It takes about 15 minutes for Greg to warm up in this interview.
De Bo Ha! But for full effect you have to read your comment in Jessie The Body's voice.
Hahah
Funny, because the running joke is that Greg seems like he's always half-awake, but he really does get going, seeming more animated and enthusiastic as it goes on!
He's fucking great.
I seem to remember ol gorilla monsoon using that line on about Greg
Greg the hammer and Nature Boy was some of the first tag teams I cheered for.

Just met him the other day over in Idaho. Awesome guy. Great to his fans
Thanks for another great interview Devon.. your channel is one of the best out there..
The matches between flair. Valentine vs. The Anderson 's during the late 70's were the best!!!!
I shook hands with Greg at a Shell Gas station in Nashua NH when he was working a small show for medical charity. He seemed a bit nervous I was going to cause trouble but I was just happy to see him and let him go on his way without making a spectacle.
Those matches with Tito were classics.
Thanks for all these interviews for FREE! WHAT A GUY
Seen him at the Garden. Met him briefly at a bar in Manhattan good memory.
As a fan, I have always enjoyed watching Greg The Hammer Valentine wrestle. Really enjoyed watching this as well.
Happy Birthday to Jonathan Anthony Wisniski aka Greg "The Hammer" Valentine.9-20-51.Seattle.
I had no idea Valentine would have joined the Horsemen. I would have rooted for them if he had been able to get in.
Some badass sunglasses! And love the painting in the background!! Valentine's got style!
Yes for sure the WWE needs legit talent like Greg the Hammer valentine.
david bass one more run as wwe champ

Love listening to all of these old school interviews. I'll never try to sue Greg "The Hammer " Valentine for sure!
He's protected by the spirit of Johnny Valentine obviously.

I'd love to see some of Greg's matches in Japan, his style was perfect for it! Great interview!
This was a great interview. Thanks for letting the discussion breathe and allow him time to talk instead of rapid fire subjects like others on TH-cam
I always, and still do, like this man.
This is my favorite shoot interview. Great Job!
Great wrestler and legend! Greg really made it look real and sold it as well as any great wrestler!
Hell yeah.
Greg is the reason Sadam Hussain thought wrestling was real
Dad shitting in other people's belongings. Very good sense of humor.
Lmao yeah that’s messed up
This is the best shoot I’ve listened to…..love his storytelling
Greg The Hammer Valentine 🔨🙌 Great Video Boss
The Valentines! Johnny and Greg! They drew and made $! They didn’t need world titles! Respect👏👍!
One of my all time favorites!!!! God bless The Hammer
Greg the hammer valentine was an integral part of my childhood growing up. The famous figure 4 leg lock! This is over two hours? It felt like 20 minutes!
I hate when wrestlers say they hate doing a job but want the other wrestlers to do jobs for them

when I think of classic wrestling ...no bs just real old school classic wrestling it doesn't get more real than the Hammer
Always enjoy listening to " THE HAMMER."
This interview covered a lot of ground! Valentine even mentioned the promos that he did in Florida breaking boards with his “bionic elbow.” Those promos really helped to sell Valentine before he even arrived in the Mid-Atlantic area. Thanks for this interview.
Makes me want to go back and see Vals matches in the early 80s at MSG!
Legend 👍
Thank you for your interviews with .all the great wrestling heroes they were super heroes to me thank you
I respect Valentine. Really good worker, and cool laid back personality. Great interview.
a great interview from Hannibal and a great hero of mine from the golden era
Great memories talk about real wrestling and business. Greg "the Hammer" Valentine is great, down to earth guy.
Another excellent shoot from Hannibal! Really enjoyed this one.
I loved him and Brutus Beefcake as a tag team back in the mid 80s. Rhythm and Blues were good to, but not as good as The Dream Team. It's good to hear that he still gets in the ring, even if he's in his 60s.
Another great one . Hannibal your the man.
these shoot interviews are always great. in the future i hope you get to do one with Rob Van Dam.
Legend
Good to see the shoots from high spots to rf video and these days Hannibal tv.
Hannibal, you are Simply the Best
The Hammer, much like his father, was one tough wrestler. One of the best of the old school.
Use to love watching Greg and Rodney Piper back in the NWA day's. The dog collar cage matches was something special!!!!
Great great interview! Hannibal/Devon is a great interviewer and bet he would be great outside wrestlers! Tremendous!
Late Night With Hannibal The Death Dealer. I like it.
I remember seeing Greg The Hammer Valentine and Brutus Beefcake defend their titles against the Bulldogs at the old Pittsburgh Civic Arena! Was a great match! A back and forth battle!
Thanks Hannibal :)
Greg gives good interviews. I never get tired of listening to him.
Well he wrestled in Jim Crockett promotions NWA and finally when it turned into WCW at the end of his career
A true legend and a class act
Loved Rhythm And Blues vs The Hart Foundation, The Hammer Was A Master In The Ring!!!
Greg is the man!! He can be on stage telling stories to Hardcore 80’s era fans drinking and enjoying the bud.
"GREGG THE HAMMER VALENTINE, No holds barred AHHH, interview..... YEEEAAA"
Bring back rhythm n blues" get the shoe polish wayne "
My favorite wrestler!
Great interview. I'd love to see you interview HBK and Sting
Great stuff. I could watch GTHV for hours
Met him at a indy show he was such a nice guy.
Good to see Hammer take the glasses off. He still has those eyes that looks like he could look right through you.
Lowell Mass has some crazy people. Greg is on point about Mass Folks. Lowell is a dangerous city to be in late at night.
Yeah man... Great work! ... You need to interview all those guys from 80-90.. Please please 🙏
We will
I wish I coulda saw more of his matches in the 80s. Loved that era
Hammer looks great, he is almost 70 and not a single wrinkle. He never abused his body, or did any crazy high flying moves.
That's why he still looks good, never did too much crazy shit, I love that match between him and Piper!😀
@@randybarnett2308 The best match ever is Adrian Adonis Vs Paul Mr. Wonderful Orndof
@@schoolnyc I'll have to check that match out ,I remember when I was a kid Mr Wonderful and Adrian Adonis had a feud going on.

Valentine was going to be a horseman wow he should have bailed from Vince.
Doesn't want to job for Sting on TV either haha
funny stuff....and I think the movie the wrestler is loosely based on him and Roberts, but he thinks Mcmahon put him in HOF cuz of Euro indie circuits
i love listening to greg valentines stories, proper legend and true gent of the sport

Normally Gregg comes across as moody here he seems in good spirits
Maybe the recent move to Vegas helped.
