I met Marty jannetty in a Tallahassee mall in December 2003. My war buddy and I were on leave for Christmas just hanging out and he was at a golds gym stand. As I was watching past the stand, I kept looking at him bc I knew I seen that face before then I realized who he was. I'm like, "Hey man, aren't u Marty jannetty?" He's like yeah. I'm like what u doing in Tallahassee? He said he was helping a friend that owns a golds gym in Tallahassee. Very cool down to earth guy, we stood and talked about 30 minutes about wrestling. Enjoyed the conversation so Marty if u see this, thx again and ur alright with me.
I am so glad I found this bless you bless you bless you. I remember meeting Marty at the Tallahassee mall which is no longer but I couldn’t remember what year and with your help. I just did. Thank you so much. Marty was wonderful is wonderful. I grew up with wrestling and Marty was the shit back in the day but you be blessed thank you again so much peace be with you always❤

Jannetty is a gem. Wasnt a fan of the Rockers back in the day, but this guy can tell stories like no other.
This is hands down one of the greatest shoot interviews i have ever seen..what a great treat for all wrestling fans!

I agree, it is really good. It seems like Marty likes to talk a lot and has experienced more than enough to share really great stories(which he seems to enjoy doing). His Shawn stuff is revealing, while his Harley commentary is very entertaining and complimentary. You also get snippets of Vince and others. Really good. But I also think Hannibal edited this interview very well. We can tell when and where there are cuts, some big, some small. You can often deduce the meaning of the cut made, perhaps how much time had passed between, and more importantly, maybe, the meaning of "things not said" behind the cut itself.

Marty Jannetty looks like a blast to hang around with. The Rockers were one of my favorite WWF tag teams as a kid growing up in the 80's.

My favorite shoot interview. Marty has so many great stories about the road, ribs, backstage fights, partying, debauchery and the best Harley Race imitation ever. You could make a tv show or some shit based on everything he been through
I remember seeing Marty in a bar as a kid in the early 90s wearing a Beavis and Butt-Head shirt. And Rick Steiner picked my little ass up on the bar and got a picture with him. Marty gave our camera two thumbs up😁
Excellent site dude, I am in my 40s now and grew up with these characters as my hero’s love to hear how they got in the business. I am in the U.K. and stared watching wrestling WWF 1989. But I love the old territories WCCW with the Von Eric’s and Florida Championship Wrestling and Georgia championship wrestling etc keep it up

Marty is a really good hearted person. Thats (part of) why the business fucked him around so much. Yeah he partied, but others were just as bad and didnt get the kind of heat he did for it. I think people took advantage of how his personality is.

Great interview. Marty is such a class act guy. I worked a show with him in GA back in 2006 and he was a great locker room vet. Interacted with all the workers and commented on matches. His Harley is spot on.

With all the disappointments in his career many thanks to Shawn Michaels, it is so amazing to see the joy for life that Marty still has. Great interview with a guy who deserves to be in the WWE HOF.
The guy was better than Shawn, but he chose drugs and girls over wrestling ultimately and Shawn as bad as he was, managed to perform and excel wanting to be better.
They all did drugs and were huge Womanizers! Shawn just stayed in HHH’s crotch and still is!
He can blame Shawn all he wants, but Marty is his own worst enemy. He's been given so many chances, and he blew it every time.
I've always thought shawn was over rated, was just pushed so much and the fact him and vince were pretty for each other probably had a say too lol

This is the first shoot interview I’ve watched in it’s entirety. Ironic because I grew up as a kid watching the Rockers and I never liked Marty as much as Shawn and yet I dedicated 3 hours of my life listening to him lol. Truly an amazing interview about his life in the wrestling industry. “With no disrespect” I would watch it over a Shawn Micheals Shoot interview. LOL! Good stuff by the interview team. SHAWN MICHAELS IS TOO MUCH OF AN EGOMANIAC, AND SELF CENTERED, OH YES HE CAN WORK, PROBABLY IN TOP 10 BEST WORKERS, BUT SHAWN EVEN LIES IN HIS BOOK, AND I WOULD WATCH HBK IN AN INTERVIEW AND NOT BELIEVE HALF THE SHIT HE SAYS, YET MARTY JANNETTY IS HONEST TO THE POINT OF GETTING IN TROUBLE.
I jus wanna say I DJ'd an event where Marty was working and afterwards I walked up to him and bought him a beer... He bought me a shot... We went back and forth and hung out for a few hours. A fucking TREAT for an 80s baby. Im telling you the dude was beyyyyond nice to the staff, to the younger wrestlers and me personally. Not bitter, not full of shit. I promise you the guy is class all around.

I grew up in Illinois and we got the Central States All-Star wrestling tv show, for a short period, which is where I first caught Marty, with Tommy Lane (wrestling as Tommy Rogers) as the Uptown Boys, the KC Rock N Roll Express rip-off (but, they were good enough in their own right); plus, rookie Shawn Michaels, and rookie tag-team The American Starship, with the Coyote (Scott Hall) and the Eagle (Dan Spivey). Saw more when they went to the AWA (and Tommy Lane, when he joined Mike davis as the Rock N Roll RPMs) and the WWF. Shawn was flashier; but, Marty was the foundation for the team and doesn't get near enough credit for their success.
No...Marty has NEVER been given the credit he deserves for his roll as one of "The Rockers". Several other wrestlers have said that Marty WAS the talent of the team because Shawn was sorta the DINK between them...which he CONTINUED to be even AFTER their break-up...Shawn was very much unliked behind the scenes cuz he was a twat! (SPECIFICALLY DURING THE DEGENERATION X period of time!!) I've been a huge fan of Marty Jannettys since day one!!
Honestly I don’t remember Shawn being flashier. When he was in Central States he looked like a nerdy jobber and didn’t have an in ring style but he could sell pretty good for a young guy. When he finally got a break with Marty he just mirrored everything Marty was doing. Even the super kick which Mary had already been using. I think what was good for Shawn was he was younger

Marty keeps it 💯 👌 I was in tears when he started sharing his experiences as a wrestler OMG but I think he is still a great wrestler in his day. Marty you still Rock !

This was the most fun shoot ever. Devon couldn't even keep it together. I wasn't even a big fan of the rockers in the 80s. I would definitely have a beer with Marty.

Hannibal this was amazing. Mad respect for party Marty , this man was screwed over multiple time’s and was the heart soul of the rockers, HBK just was better ass to Vince’s Pelvic pushes. Really appreciated this interview and Marty I know it’s hard to ask but maybe Hannibal could set up a go fund me account to get his ankle or any other surgeries needed. Thanks for the memories and the stroll down Marty lane, had me almost pissed myself laughing and but also touched me in sadness as well, to what happened or happens to most of the 80,s and 90’s wrestling stars. This was a great interview that gave a lot of behind the scenes anecdotes that we fans love hearing about. But it saddens me that greats like Marty here were used up and then walk away from by the now named WWE. It would be nice if Vince would pony up some money to help out guys like Jannetty with their medical bills that were incurred during years of service to the industry.

Marty Jannetty had(or still has) genuine charisma! Shawn had charisma too, but seemed like he "put it on" abit!! You almost feel like Marty was the same in person & everywhere he went, whereas Shawn wasn't!!

Marty’s charisma did not show during his promos. He couldn’t deliver them well. Wrestling is essentially an acting sport so Shawn’s method of switching between whether he wanted to act a certain way is what put him over.

Not 100% honest. Bruce Pritchard was asked if Shawn had anything to do with the inception of the New Rockers, and Bruce stated that wasn't true.
Feels like Marty is one of them brothas you love to hang out with. Or like that one family member that you got a close bond with. Great personality. And the stories brotha man be sharing. I miss seeing brotha wrestling. I wish they would have made him a singles wrestler. They could have made something for him. Vince you should have worked with brotha Marty and made him a superstar in the WWE. Still Marty is one of my all time tag team wrestlers ever. I think he would have been a superstar singles wrestler and maybe even a singles wrestler title holder. Brotha Marty you got a lot of wrestling fans that still love ya and I enjoyed watching you wrestle and bring smiles to every wrestling fans face. I pray that God abundantly blessed you every day and keep bringing peaceful smiles to those who love you faces. Love and respect always from one brotha to another brotha.

I watched Marty in the Central States area. I remember his feud with Bulldog Bob Brown, his mentor. That was a awesome fued.
Bulldog Bob Brown looked 60 when he was 35. I remember he ended every promo “when the smoke clears the room”

When I was a teenager, I went to wwf wrestling shows in my area only to see randy savage, with Elizabeth, and the Rockers. I feel so bad for Marty when Vince broke the rockers up. Marty seems like a great person.

Great interview!--So many funny stories, Marty is what we call in Boston a " Hot Shit" ( It basically describes a real good,funny person) back in the day after matches at the old Boston Garden,we'd go hang out with the wwf wrestlers at the Ramada Inn lounge and I'd say Marty was one of the coolest guy's to have a drink with along the "Heels" such as Curt Henning(r.i.p),Jake Roberts,etc...Can't wait to read Marty's book and hopefully a spot in the h.o.f,very enjoyable watch,keep up the great job Devon!!
