What an amazing combination of 80s styles in the interior. Floral upholstery, gold hardware and nicely turned woodwork right next to a retro-futuristic and almost synthwavey helm with period state-of-the-art tech like that chart plotter.
This broom swept me away with it's ageless charm. What's particularly nice about this yacht is someone else has not had their way with her. Too often in the used boat market, there's that one guy, the owner which has taken it upon themselves to tackle the updates and mod.'s. The result being a boat that was a a classic vintage 1980's giving you an impression it's original build was in the 60's, and that it was ravished sometime in the 70's by a blind man in his 90's..
This Broom's layout is astonishing and space saving. I guess other manufacturer's designers were sweeping under a rock. The weed/rope cutters near the propeller is a brilliant idea, never heard of them before. Love the spiral staircase and the double helm positions. That aft cabin is huge! As always, Thank you for the tour, Mr. Nick.
About 15 years ago, I was looking at 40 foot Carver aft cabin boats and it's amazing how much room that design gives you. Àlas...the aft cabin lost the space war to the bathing platform over time
For a 32 year old boat that is very good. Interesting to see how the tender was held. Strange spiral staircase entrance. Louvred door cabinets are very 80’s. Cabins aren’t bad. The green sink is very dated. No Miele in the galley. Funny seeing old cathode ray portable tv and VCR 😊. Totally original equipment. Love the radio handset 🤣 Aft cabin is good. Decent boat ! Thanks Nick 😊
Brooms from a,sadly forgotten time. Straight lines.Right angles and that gorgeous companionway art deco flowing staircase,as per even older Broom Crown 37's. I'm drowning in my nostalgia.
I really like this boat. You're right, a load of space at 40', there are so many comfortable places to go. The variety of boats you showcase is why I so appreciate you - the balance between the Cote d'Azur and out-of-the-way places like this is fascinating. Thanks so much.
Well I’d have to say that tour is a clean sweep. Ideally love the round staircase at the entry to the salon. I’d be very proud to own such a classic as this.
I can imagine that some people are enchanted with the vintage look, but personally I can very much notice how modern layouts and architecture have improved in the 30 years that have passed since this boat was built. Primarily, not having eye-level windows in the main cabin looks like living in the basement floor of a house. (Which is not an advantage) Thanks for the video, Nick! Excellent as always! 🤗
Thank you for this blast from the past. I grew up near Wargrave and we had a freeman 26 at Clifton Hampden. My dad would go weak at the knees when we’d pass a Broome. The 30 was the dream boat. Love these old river cruisers. Such class!
Another couple of years and this will be very cool and on trend! £85k plus another £40k for updates and that would be a great investment. It will last forever! Another brilliant and different tour. Thanks again Nick!
Wow that’s a lot of boat for the money! Moreover throw another £25-30K at it for tech upgrades, interior refinishing, decor etc & you would have something VERY nice for still a superb price! Great find Nick 👍🏻
Bought a Hallberg-Rassy 352 from 1986 last year, it has the original Volvo Penta 2003T with 4500 hours and the original autopilot: Autohelm 5000 both still going strong. As always, great video Nick!
Just stumbled on this tour. Very much appreciated. The super yachts are great, but it's great to see boats closer to our price range. Your knowledge is encyclopedic, which adds to the quality of your commentary, Nick. Your total lack of pretension puts you that much further ahead of the others trying to do what you do. Thanks!
That layout was very popular In the US 🇺🇸 manufactured by Chris Craft, Pacemaker, Owens & Egg Harbor. Great boat, Good Looking, single handed handling, easy live aboard for any guy. Thxs Sir Nick 👍
Kinda like the layout of this boat, feel lot of space and the interior is amazing, the gold colour things all around in the detail and the old fashion berth cover, old fashion is alway the best for me.
A lovely older boat Nick. Sorry to hear that Broom have stopped making boats. I was on a few of them a couple of years back at the Boat Show and they were well priced and impressively finished. Sad to see them gone
That would be a great little boat for a first time yacht buyer. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with it, it’s spacious, comfortable and downright charming.
This is a real time capsule boat. I'd love to see it kept as original as possible. Plenty of old shabby interiors that can be modernised - this is pristine!
Nick that Broom was 20years ahead of it's time. Love the separate shower and that spacious stateroom. For the DYI not a difficult job to up date and modernise. A great buy!
Deep joy 🌟 As a child spending many weeks at Bell boats Brundall.... running errands for Arthur Bell, anti fowling the hulls of the hire fleet, sailing and occasionally creeping onto the new Moonrakers and Aquabells being built and tested. The yards were next door to Brooms..... some of the hulls were shared amongst the builders for hire craft, like the Broom Ocean 30, AKA the first Moonraker... I digress 🙂 Dated, yes.... but I don’t think you can beat the layout and accommodation on these aft cabin, flybridge boats..... One day...... if I live long enough....🙂🇬🇧
Plenty of space on this one! Thanks for showing us this one, Nick. Someday you'll have to give us a tour inside the shoulder bag we always see in your videos. You are a suberb guide through every nook and crannie of boats but you've never shown us what's inside the satchel you always have with you, haha (I remember seeing a white canvas bag and now we see a brown leather one). We are a curious lot so come on now, let's see what's in the bag...a lunch perhaps...don't keep us guessing forever!
Interesting how this boat stayed in time. Nothing has been revamped, keeping it intact. As if it was brought to this time and age in a time tunnel....thanks for the tour Nick.
I love it! Amazing amount of space. It's obvious, with all of its originality, this boat has been well loved and cared for its entire life. Most boats of this type and age are a stained and mildewed mess inside and rusted everywhere unpainted steel appears outside. Fascinating 35 year old state of the art electronics. I noticed the tuner/amplifier on top of the 'fridge in the galley complete with a foot long analog tuning window and a big knob you spin to get your favorite FM station! Just fantastic and a huge return for a first boat owner willing to pony up $100,000...diesel engines with less than 600 hours on them included. Thanks Nick...great walkthrough choice.
One word to describe this Broom: charming! Good entry price into boating and I just love that master cabin. Would not look out of place on a 60 footer. Obviously needs a little TLC but still got plenty of life in the old girl! Cheers from a rather sweaty Otford, Kent...
We own a 1989 Fairline 43/45, and it's a great live aboard boat. Yes, it has the odd reliability issue as all old things do, but it has no shortage of space and we often take it out to sea.
If this was just two of you be perfect to just live on, retire … ok needs updating in certain areas but could be done over time and do as much yourself to keep cost down… Can’t be a straight six older engine, easy to look after and no electronics to go wrong…. Awesome tour and nice to see an classic like this ❤️👍🏻
Happy to see how you enjoyed making this video as I enjoyed watching it. First time I am looking for pricing to update a boat. Because yes, what a huge amount of space to play with. Thanks!
Alright, that's a boat someone can live on to be honest ... turn that lower lounge area into a home office the forward v-berth into some additional storage. Cheaper than a house or even an appartment. Imagine restyling/ modernizing the interior, modern atmospheric lighting, etc. Basically, instead of buying a 140k apartment, get this and refurbish/ restyle it for the difference. You'd still be cheaper off.
Thanks for the tour! Beautiful boats you guys have over the pond there. Really unfortunate that the Broom family doesn't make boats anymore but I guess that's what makes it even more special and a true classic for sure. Cheers from NYC.
It wouldn't take all that much for someone with a little bit of money and a lot of skill to turn this boat into something very retro-chique. That could be a ton of fun! Thanks for the tour!
Oo er that Decca is a bit modern, served my time installing and repairing Decca Navigators for Decca Radar Ltd., back when everything was good old valve technology. Lovely boat Nick and thanks for the guided tour.
This is the second time I've watched this and I didn't realise what a gem of a boat it is. Love the seats on the fly bridge that reminds me of my old addidas gym bag I had for sport at school in the 70's. Would try and keep as original as possible, with sensible upgrades if I own it. Come on premium bonds.
Probably the only boat in Aquaholic i could afford if I sold my House, Car, all my clothes, all my shoes, even my underwears and my slightly used pre loved pristine condition toothbrush. Who needs them if you have a boat?
That’s a really interesting one Nick, a wonderful snapshot of a bygone era. However I think it’d be worth spending money and updating her. The actual layout is great and being a Broom I’m sure she basically sound.
What a lovely older boat. She's in pretty damn fine shape for her age too. A few upgrades and she'd be good to go. Another top quality Aquaholic tour as well!
My goodness what a time capsule! Thanks for this that was wicked funny! Being a product of that era I felt right at home! Especially loved the avocado colored sink in the day heads!
broom are a great solidly built boats.this thing will keep you going as long as you look after it.they were known for their quality and solid build.she looks of the period and i think well worth the money.interesting choice nick;)
That's one of the last built, as it was one of the boats I helped to build. Good to see that is still quite good for her age, as with many of the Broom boat Good review
Wow, Love this older boat. She is still pretty sexy. I also like how that wood looks like a matte finish instead of all the super high gloss finishes on newer boats today. I would love to have this boat.
Well that was a great tour .. WHAT an old fashioned buwt !!! I bet that was one HELL of a buwt in 1989 .. Some might smile but without the ingenious designs these older boats thought up ..we wouldn't have hi low platforms and massive cockpits and especially cushions and now SEATING at the bow ..🙆... Brilliant 😁👍🏴
Great video Nick. Showing life in the old dogs can exist! Whether it's a super yacht or dingy your content is always informative and immaculately presented. A pleasure to watch.
That upholstery is awesome! Lol. Seems like a much better design than the new boats where you pay a lot of money and 15% of the length is a ginormous swim platform.
Why anyone would choose a narrow river boat over this is beyond my comprehension. You get a two bed (london sized) flat with river and ocean capabilities. The amount of updates required makes me feel like £85k is a bit steep but not too far off. Nice vessel indeed!
Do you have a tablet? You can get apps for tablets that will do the job nicely for chartplotters, changing the display for the radar would then be the only big upgrade needed. Adding a gps system that you can use for the chartplotter isn't a huge, costly addition. TH-cam channel "Trying not to Sink" has a few videos where they go over working with tablets as their navigation system.
Simply, the beam. some of the MIdlands/ Northern locks have a width of just over 6ft/2m - also the flybridge would have to go!! Could only be used as a liveaboard and southern cruising (until you find a low bridge.)
I had my first child, a beautiful daughter called Elizabeth in 1989. 1989 was only about ten years ago! 😃 I’m still struggling to fathom out how she has a teen and ten year old twins of her own already. Point being, I’d love a boat of this age. When I’m widowed I can afford my dream boat. Edited to add, I don’t want to be widowed, I love my husband, but he doesn’t love boats and he prefers to spend our money on cruise ships! Trips on cruise ships, not buying them obviously.
This yacht reminds me of a summer cottage . So much character & charm that emotes memories of a simpler life style . Not about keeping up with the "Jones" . Love the interior layout & space . Obviously needs to be repaired / upgraded & new navigation . Mark (Toronto) 💦💦💦
A quick search on the old internet has revealed a few of these for sale in the 80k-90k range, including one up in Norfolk complete with the arch and interestingly powered by a couple of 212hp Ford Sabres. They only made them for a short time (1986-1991) but they're not uncommon on the Thames at least and Broom was always considered a solid boat builder. I would imagine a lot of them will still be around in another 10 years - so £85k is not bad for all that space and useability..... if you can live with the woodwork ;-) Love the old CRT TV and VCR, bet they still work.
Looks to be a good layout. Dated but you can always refit it at your leisure. Something like this would be ideal for tootling around the Peel/Harvey Estuaries in Western Australia with excursions up the Murray and Serpentine Rivers.
Love the avocado basin, to think that's what we all aspired to, a really good design, if you don't swim in the sea very often maybe better to have more space in the boat than a bathing platform, and steps to the flybridge, the woodwork looks better than the mfi quality of some modern boats.
For me this is the very Dutch style of boat, like the Van Der Valk, Elling or Heesen, I really love the aft cabin, thats the must have for a boat in my eyes!
2nd aft cabin boat in my subscription feed this week after the mid 2000s Pearl from the virtual yachtbroker at the weekend. Surprised this layout has fallen out of favour it looks like a brilliant layout
If you’re going to upgrade the interior as well as the equipment you’d be looking at close to £150k if not a bit more. That would put off many new owners straight away. You’ve only got to add the word boat and a simple oil change would cost you close on £250! Thanks for the video Nick. I used to own a Freeman 28, pre cross flow (that’ll puzzle the new boaters out there) with a Ford Cortina marinised engine fitted from the factory. She was a pig to upkeep, but a beautiful old boat. Give me a newer one, less work. Anyway, as I said, brilliant video Nick. Keep up the good work. Dave Swain
I bet the ones made today won’t last as long as this one it was a great tour and I must admit it is a great looking boat I love the woodwork in it who ever has this hope it is kept to its beautiful way it is very enjoyable
Its crazy how they changed boats and yachts over the years. Thank you Nick.
What an amazing combination of 80s styles in the interior. Floral upholstery, gold hardware and nicely turned woodwork right next to a retro-futuristic and almost synthwavey helm with period state-of-the-art tech like that chart plotter.

Fascinating tour, and what a testament to Broom to see that the quality of the boats stood the rest of time. Brilliant.

The interior is immaculate. Very few 32 year olds are that well kept.
The old fashioned vhf radio definitely required that old fashioned joke...
Thanks for the video Nick 👌🏻

That master cabin is lovely, and its great to see how the technology was 'back in the day' too. A lot of boat for £85k.
I absolutely love the interior look and the vintage stuff is very nice for a museum of sorts
I hope you do more of the older boats! very interesting to see how things evolved
I love the way the stairs go almost continuously from the aft deck down to the master cabin. I also like the layout of the master cabin.
That would be a great little boat for a first time yacht buyer. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with it, it’s spacious, comfortable and downright charming.
How do you know there's nothing wrong with it? The boat is 32 years old and might be a right moneypit.
I love the ancient television! Actually all the old stuff on this boat is cool. Thanks for the tour. :)

Tardis of a motor yacht. Quality cabinet work and beautifully preserved.
It's amazing how much you can get in a small area on a boat. Dated but as you said it has an air of elegance, I love all of the interior. Thanks.
The space is incredible. So retro and stylish. Cheers Nick

I found that the older boats have a better lay out than the newer ones.

I agree. I don’t understand these small salons and galleys in newer boats.
I agree
I agree also
They do. New boats are all about cabin space for sleeping.
I prefer more living space myself.

Right, if you only consider space. Narrowboats go places where this beauty cannot. Similarly, you are RIGHT again: this belongs in coastal waters.

10 years younger than me... and looking good! A bit of upholstery, a lick of paint and some new navionics and it would look like new!
What a cool older retro boat mate thanks as always for the tour Nick 👍🇨🇦
I love this layout, the separate galley is fantastic
Looks to be a good layout. Dated but you can always refit it at your leisure. Something like this would be ideal for tootling around the Peel/Harvey Estuaries in Western Australia with excursions up the Murray and Serpentine Rivers.
One of the few channels I 👍 the video even before watching it! This time next year we'll be millionaires!!
Not bad at all, plenty of good G+T spots and great to see some older craft as well as the shiny ones.
A⛵ blast from the past.Great to hold 80ts themed parties on River Thames 🍹 🎊🎉
Dave Swain
My first boating memories are in the slip next door to this boat. used to be neighbours! remember this one fondly!
Took me a minute to realize the holes for opening the drawers were a feature to keep drawers from getting musty. Actually a great idea!
Wow Nick just around the corner from me . Lovely older boat .
whoever buys this must restore it to original spec where necessary. It would be a shame to "modernise" it. Lovely.
Fascinating time capsule. I think it would need a bit of work to be truly practical. Love the vintage decor!
Nice boat, spiral staircase is BRILLIANT!
Absolutely can not wait to see finished job . 👏
I bet the ones made today won’t last as long as this one it was a great tour and I must admit it is a great looking boat I love the woodwork in it who ever has this hope it is kept to its beautiful way it is very enjoyable
