    I had a friend make the mistake of driving her car home from the bar on the weekend of her 21st birthday. She wasn’t hammered but definitely shouldn’t have been driving. Got pulled over less than half a block from her apartment. Cop knew she was buzzed. Took one look at her license and asked where she was headed. Told him right there and pointed to a parking space maybe 30 yards away. Cop asked for the keys and told everyone to get out of the car. Cop got in, parked her car, came back and said ‘happy birthday. If I see your car on the road again tonight, your toast’ and walked away.
    She never drove after drinking again

    Bruce I used to drink & drive all the time!!! I was a bad alcoholic!!! I would drink a fifth to a magnum of hard liquor every day!!! I stopped cold turkey by myself with no help because my uncle had his twelfth wreck & killed his fiance!!! I have now been sober for 34 years & I am ashamed of my past drinking!!! I could have killed myself or someone else & their children!!! I never got a DUI but I know I deserved many!!!

    Over a decade ago, I was employed as a van driver. That one night, I drove over to my friends place, in my company van after work, ended up partying hard, drinking a lot, etc. It was 1am when I decided it's time to drive home, about 2 miles through a small irish town, where there is hardly ever any police present (in Ireland called "Garda"). As I'm driving (shamelessly drunk) home, I pass a police car, which almost immediately turns its lights and sirens on, turns around and catches up to me. My heart stopped. I stopped the van at the roadside, police car parks right behind me, blue lights flashing, the cop walks up to my van and slightly angrily asks "what's up with my speed?!" and claims that I "flew by" when I passed him. I reacted with genuine surprise, saying "well, as a company driver, driving hundreds of miles per working day, I get used to going through the roundabouts right at the (city) speed limit (30mph)". The cop mumbled something to me angrily, which I didn't quite understand, walked off to his squad car and drove away. I was shocked he didn't smell booze off me. I was most definitely drunk, no question. For some time I sat there in the van, heart beating like crazy, realized that I almost got arrested for drink-driving, consequently almost lost my job, thus my income etc. Had that policeman smelled booze off me, that encounter would have gone WAY different. That was the very last time I ever drove under influence. Ever.

      I was like 19 on my way to work at 4 am after partying all night and skid off the road because it was raining. Didn't wreck, just got stuck in the grass on the roadside. A cop stopped to check things out and him and I were shoulder to shoulder trying to push my truck out of the rut it was in. I cannot believe A) I was so incredibly irresponsible and B) he didn't smell the vodka on my breath and immediately arrest me.

      The most terrifying car ride I ever had was when in Eire on holiday. After playing in a Dublin pub, a group of us piled into a car and drove through the countryside south of Dublin to where our next session was to be at a private residence. The driver was pissed drunk and played chicken with other drivers by driving the wrong way far in excess of the speed limit. I screamed and begged him to let me out; I fully expected to die that night. Fortunately, we made it to our destination, though The legendary Martin Byrnes was in the back seat crying because the duck eggs in his pocket had broken. No eggs for breakfast that morning 😅

Arrested him, got a warrant for blood draw, spent a night in jail. Son’s drivers license was suspended because he refused to blow. Charged with DUI. Bollea (NICK HOGAN) previously made headlines in the late 2007 when he, at the age of 17, was involved in a serious crash that left him and his friend, John Graziano, in Bayfront Hospital. According to Sam & Ash Injury Law, Bollea pled no contest to a charge of reckless driving in May 2008, receiving a sentence of eight months in the county jail and five years of probation. Graziano’s family also sued Bollea and Hulk Hogan for the victim’s injuries, WHICH LEFT HIM PARALYZED AND IN NEED OF NURSING CARE FOR THE REST OF HIS LIFE! The lawsuit ended in a $1.5 million settlement.

    My former attorney (more of a friend and mentor, the legal work came for free, RIP) gave me the same advice as Bruce: "Don't blow." I asked why, he said, "They don't give you a receipt, and cops lie." Good enough. Well, I made the mistake of applying his advice to another state, and I got in a whole heap of trouble for it. I hired an excellent lawyer and got it all cleared up, preserving my still spotless criminal record, but it cost me a pretty penny. That cop was a boy scout. In that state (MD), I'd have been a lot better off if I'd just blown into the damn thing and gone about my day.

      If I do ever get pulled over and am asked to do a field sobriety test in my home town though, I will literally tell the cop only as long as he does one too. My bf got rear-ended at a red light by a drunk town cop in his cruiser, so it's them we have to worry about getting drunk and running around on the roads hurting innocent people, not me who doesn't really enjoy the feeling of being drunk in the first place, let alone behind the wheel drunk, that's insane.

    It was well after midnight, and they waited and watched until they saw me set off on foot with no phone and no money, to walk 3 miles home through some seriously sketch neighborhoods. I've never understood why they were so hostile, what the point of testing someone is if passing the test doesn't matter, or why they were any more justified putting my life at risk by stranding me in the middle of the night I would have been to put other people's lives at risk by drunk driving.
    As it happens, I wasn't drunk so it was probably just that I was really tired and I was not the best driver to start with; but I don't know what they pulled me over for in the first place because they never told me that either. I pretty much lost faith in the whole process after that.

After the second sip, he finally flashed his lights and blipped his siren. He first yelled at her because he'd been following her for nearly a mile, in town, during rush hour. She knew he was behind her, but it's a small town. After yelling about following her, he stuck his head into the truck. She was mortified at his callusness. He saw the bottle she had been sipping from. He commanded her to give him the bottle. She giggled and said "okay". He put it up to his nose and then stuck his finger in the bottle. Again, mortified, even without a pandemic. He then moved his hand to read the bottle. It was root beer! Rather than laugh and let her go. He then began berating her about the current information. She explained that Grandma let her have the truck to get to work. She's on her insurance policy because it was cheaper. So she was current on everything, license, registration, and insurance. Rather than just leave it at that, he took her license back to his cruiser. He was rude, mean, and taking risks that could harm her and himself. So, after getting her in tears for drinking ROOT BEER. He let her go. She was so shaken up, she didn't realize he kept her license. She went to get a new one and had to pay another $40! Now she's terrified of drinking anything in her car, she sees a car near her, she has to talk herself out of a full blown anxiety attack. What can we do if we can't pass a field sobriety test sober? We drive quite well, never in the dark, neither of us have had an accident or speeding ticket.

Encourage your daughter to keep driving for her sake. My aunt accidentally killed someone who stepped in front of her car and didn’t want to drive anymore but my mom made her because that’s not a way to live. Do you two receive mental health help?

    In Utah, if a vehicle is pulled over on the side of the road, you are required to have an empty lane between you and them, OR slow down by at least 20 mph.

    My 17yr old daughter has nystagmus. I feel bad if they pull her over because it can get bad at times, especially if she's nervous. I hope they can be fair with her if she ever were to be pulled over she's never done anything and id terrified to learn how to drive. I guess we'll see if it happens how much they actually do care about people who have that like her. Stay warm and safe everyone! Thank you as always Bruce!!!

    In most states, the move over law dictates that you move over one lane if there’s room to do so, if there’s not a way to make a safe lane change you must slow way down.

    About 3 months into me getting my license at 18 I got pulled over with a group of friends. We had been drinking hours earlier. (I've never been much of a drinker). Cop pulled me over for loud exhaust. Long story short I blew .07. Because I just got my license it was zero tolerance. Fortunately for me the cop just made us walk home. I've never drove even slightly buzzed again and never will.

    Bruce I have a question. Not about this case though. Why is it that the police do these dui/dwi/ovi test on people who are “under the influence”. But a person “under the influence” can’t give consent for other activities. Why don’t they just have people do the breath test and or blood test straightaway?

    • @hopefulhuman
      @hopefulhuman 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      I think a blood test on the hwy is difficult. What if they are impaired but not on alcohol? Maybe breath first, then if zero do FST'S. Idk why they do it this way. There's gotta be an answer somewhere.

    • @hopefulhuman
      @hopefulhuman 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This is what Google said. "FSTs are tools used by cops to accumulate and document specific pieces of evidence (clues) that they can then later testify to in court."

      @@hopefulhuman True blood test on the highway would be a no go unless they have EMTs. That would be for the hospital. But it just seems to me if a person is impaired consent can’t be given. Their minds aren’t right.
