the D18 is scalloped, of course it makes a huge difference
If you know your Martin history. Martin stopped making the D28 scalloped because back in the 1940s because people wanted to use heavy gauge strings and to get more volume out of the guitar since there wasn't much amplification and the heavy gauge strings were causing top issues, so Martin had to go back and reinforce the brace to X bracing and then later on people kept asking bring back the scalloped D28 and they did in the 1970s which we know now as the HD28!
I agree. The new D-18 sounds killer! I have a Taylor LKSM because Leo is my idol, but I do love the Martin sound more. The D-18 Authentic sounds like heaven but my favorite Martin is the D-18 Clarence White. No idea what the secret sauce is.
