Very cool idea. I haven't started messing with engraving paper products much, yet. Burlap is another cool option to engrave if you haven't tried that yet!
Hello Thanks for your videos! I do these on kraft paper bags, brown, so the engraving comes out dark on those. On those, It'll come out super krisp but then I wiped my finger over the image it wipped the image away a bit! I removed some of the burnt residue it seems. 1) Does this happen with coloured bags, and 2) any tips on how to prevent this / lock in the engraving so it doesnt smuudge? Thank you so much.
Hi! I honestly haven't tried with the brown bags. The way I make this work is I'm basically taking the color layer off these bags. You could try raising the power ever so slightly and lightly wiping it after in hopes that the engrave is darker.
Lisa, I have been looking into one of these for a while. I am glad that I ran into you and you are explaining things the way you do. However; can I use, engrave, cut materials only from Glowforge or I can use my own wood, acrylics and stuff like that? That’s why I have not gotten it yet. Can you cut one of those nice wood monograms or large names on the wall? Like for babies rooms? Thank you kindly
You can use whatever laser-safe materials you would like! I hardly ever use proof grade. Absolutely, you can do that large names! You can either use pass through, or piece it together when cutting on a smaller machine.
Yes, you may need to do tests to see how the engrave will work. This is using just enough power to take off the coating. When doing brown bags, you'll have to test to find that darker look. I'll add those to my list of things to try. 🤗
Thanks so much for all the videos. We love to watch. I tried to engrave a bag like yours but it went through the bag. Not sure what I did wrong. I used the same settings. Any advise is appreciated.
Most likely. I haven't done a plain box yet, so not sure how much it would mark. I would try a similar setting, then slowly increasing your power until you get the right marking.
that's a good question. I don't know if you could necessarily create textures, but you could do a similar effect with a photo engrave. That will convert to dots for lighter areas to show shading.
It's possible you might need a bit more power, depending on the finish of the bag. Make sure it's engrave, you see the lines in the preview and check the engrave. If you don't see anything, don't move the bag at all. Increase the power and try again. You may also need to slow it down.
Thank you for ALL of your videos! ❤
You are so welcome!
Lisa! I just found your channel! Thank you soooo much! this bag video just helped me out tons!
Welcome! I'm so glad it helped!
Wow! Thank you Lisa, I would love to learn more about how you became proficient with the GF settings
Glad this helped! It was a lot of practice and learning the combination of higher speed/lower speed or higher power! Keep trying things!
OOOh!! I can't wait to try this! I'm new to Glowforge and am super excited about these bags! Thanks for sharing your settings!
Hope you enjoy!
So glad to see you. What a fun idea!
Thank you! 😊
Lisa, I just love your videos! You always pick the best subjects. Thank you! ❤️
This has helped me, I haven’t lasered on paper yet.
I'm so glad! 😘
Great video, your looking more like a pro every time, good job
Thanks 👍
That is so cute and easy. Definitely going to try this. Thanks for the great tutorial and including settings to make it so easy
You're very welcome ♥
just a heads up, I used your link to buy a glowForge pro on 9/21. Hopefully it helps. Thanks for the videos!
That's awesome, thank you so much for supporting me 💕

Great idea!
Hi there! I would love to see you engrave one of the paper or craft jewelry box lids or give some advice on settings to do so.
Thanks for the idea! I love that! I'm adding it to my list.

Welcome back girl. 😊
Thank you 💕
I wonder how they would look “scored” instead. I’ve got to try this! 🤗
The only hiccup you'll have is that scoring only does the outline of your object. If you have line art, it will probably be awesome!
What a great idea! I have done a few paper projects but this is going to open up a lot more ideas. Thanks for sharing!
Glad it was helpful!

can you use the brown bags as well with handles?

Great idea.
Thanks!
Have you ever done multiple bags per job this size? Great video!
Not yet, but mainly because I don't trust the alignment and I would need to make a jig. Most of my orders are onesie-twosies, so I do them as I go.
Love them
Thank you 💕
Love it! Thanks, Lisa!
You are so welcome!
Can I make a stencil with the glow Forge😊
You can! Just make sure it's with a laser-safe material.
Thanks so much for all the videos. We love to watch. I tried to engrave a bag like yours but it went through the bag. Not sure what I did wrong. I used the same settings. Any advise is appreciated.
Hi Jason! Some bags might be slightly thinner. I would try lowering your power and trying again.
@@LisaPottsDesigns thank you I’ll try that! And again thanks for the videos we love to watch!
Have you done them on brown Kraft bags yet?
Not yet, but I'm going to try soon!
At 2:34 how did you create custom names for your items?
Go to manual at the bottom, add in the settings, then click the plus sign at the top to "save as!"
Hey great video. Can I do this on a thin brown gift box?
Most likely. I haven't done a plain box yet, so not sure how much it would mark. I would try a similar setting, then slowly increasing your power until you get the right marking.
Hi Lisa,
Is it possible to create textures with a thicker card stock and what would determine the depth? TIA
that's a good question. I don't know if you could necessarily create textures, but you could do a similar effect with a photo engrave. That will convert to dots for lighter areas to show shading.
Way cool! Thanx for sharing!
Thanks for watching!
Thank you for your video. I have a 40 Watt Diode laser. I set mine to 6000 mm/min and the power to12%.
Good to know! I just got the Aura diode, so I will be needing to do some translating.
Hey Lisa, of the bag is white inside would the engraving be white ?
Possibly! Most of these are kraft paper, so I would guess it would be brown at some point.
I have the glowforge basic do you know what setting I should use for the bag
Since it's not running full power, I think you would get the same results with those settings ☺
Hey does this cut chipboard??
Yep! You will have to test settings, but it can cut it.
Have you done denim/canvas bags?
Not yet, but it's on my list!
Very nice 👍🏻
Thank you! Cheers!
what did you set your material as? I don't know what I'm doing wrong but my machine is running back and forth but nothing appers on the bags

@@LisaPottsDesigns is the same bags you were using...I will try that... thank you....i'm a newby 😃
How do I get my settings on BETA speed?
I haven't seen BETA speed. What are you working with now?
Hello intried to usedbyourbreferal link for glowforge how do I save the $500. I tried and it didn't come off.
It will show up once you're at checkout! $500 will come off a pro and $250 will come off a plus. :)
How do you know where is the center?
I either measure and mark it lightly with a pencil, or just eyeball it!
Girl.... the demand for birch you might want to reconsider your scraps! Hahah
😂 You know, that thought crossed my mind, but it was committed at that point. lol
WHATS A GOOD PRICE TO PRICE CUSTOME BAGS LIKE THIS?
I would sell this bag for $5.
Nice
I'm obsessed with it right now. haha
@@LisaPottsDesigns , it’s really an awesome idea. I’ll have to check out our Dollar Trees for bags. That would be very cool for birthday bags.
